Another newbie question.... ringtones - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Possibly another obvious question here for you (yawn) my appologies...!
Ive downloaded a few ringtones for my XDA and loaded them onto activesync>mymobiledevice>windows>rings
So, to use them, it should be a simple case of start>settings>phone>ringtone then select the one i want.
However, they dont show in this menu, and i cant find them anywhere else.
Am i missing something?
Thanks
Matt

I don't have the answer to this. Just joining you in the question. Sticking mp3's in the windows/rings directory (of my xda 2) doesn't do the trick. Weird.

Doh. Found the answer: (by using the search button: doh x2)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18609&highlight=himalaya+ringtone+problem

Ok so now i have it working... i didnt seem to do anything different, my tones have now simply appeared under ringtones - but they wont play! The standard pre-set tones play, but my loaded wav files wont!
Can anyone tell me why? :evil:

wav is an odd std and they differ in format really
if the wav is not acpm type they cant be played
wma is kinda like mp3 and those also works but only for rings not for std pda notifications

SOLVED! make the HTC Music Player (TF3D music tab) library IGNORE specific folders?

Anybody know how to make the HTC music player (think it's called AudioManager) on the TF3D music tab completely IGNORE specific folders when its creating the library?
I have a folder into which I save recorded phone calls (yes, its legal here in Minnesota, I checked). But if I want to have the music player play ALL songs on random, I'll be driving along listening to music and all of a sudden the next song is a friggin phone call I saved. Kinda lame.
Anybody know how to fix this? I know there is a registry key to make the HTC Album ignore specific folders, so I tried copying that key into the Audio Manager area of the registry, but it didn't work (of course).
Greatly appreciate any help!
I save my ringtones on my SD card so that they're easier to recover after a hard reset or a new ROM flash. To prevent the music player from picking them up, I save them into a zip file. In your case, you'll have to manually move the file into the zip every time you finish recording a call. If that's sounds ok to you, then you can give this a shot.
Yeah, that'd be alot of work for me right now. I'm going through some crap which requires me to save at least a couple calls a day, so having to constantly re-zip stuff would get pretty cumbersome.
Actually though, I might try that. I think the player only refreshes the library when run for the first time, after which you have to delete the .vol file in the Application Data -> HTC -> AudioManager folder. So if that's true, I could zip what I currently have, force the library to refresh, and then unzip and leave them alone.
I'll see if that works, and the player doesn't automatically refresh the library and find those files again.
Thanks for the suggestion...
SOLVED!!!
Sweet!
While using Resco Explorer to try your suggestion, I stumbled upon the solution! I was looking to see if I could zip them directly with Rescoe, which you can't do, when I had another idea.
Using Rescoe, all I had to do was make the FOLDER with the audio files I did NOT want included in the library a HIDDEN FOLDER. Then went to the music tab in TF3D and bam! Those files were no longer in the library!
Sweet!!!
So thanks for your suggestion, it was that alone which made me figure out this unbelievably easy way to pull this off!
Oh, and sure enough, the call recorder still works and has no problem storing the recorded phone calls in the hidden folder. I'm using ACR - Automatic Call Recorder, in case anyone is wondering. It's FREE, and works great.
Thanks!
The Finish In Touch
I Know, double posting, but it's the real solution and i've been searching all over the forum, so to help others i've answered this thread as well.
Here's what i did and found:
EDIT REGISTRY
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\C onfig]
"device_scan_path_type_0"=dword:00000001
"device_scan_path_path_0"="\My Documents"
"device_scan_path_path"="\My Documents"
"music_player_time_mode"=dword:00000000
"music_player_mute"=dword:00000000
"music_player_shuffe"=dword:00000000
"music_player_loop"=dword:00000000
"music_player_index"=dword:00000000
"ring_tone_path"="\My Documents\\My Ringtones\"
"uid"=dword:000113E5
"drag_mute_timer"=dword:00000000
"Resume_play_delay_time"=dword:000007D0
"music_player_volumn"=dword:00000064
"Request_Memory"=dword:00300000
"Enable_ForcePrevious"=dword:00000001
"enter_suspend"=dword:00000001
"disable_mute_hotkey"=dword:00000001
ADD new STRING
"sd_exclude_path_path_0"="\My Ringtones"
ADD new DWORD
"sd_exclude_path_type_0"=dword:00000000
Each folder you want to exclude needs a STRING and a DWORD
The number in above example (_0) is the number of the "folder set" if there's already a number just add 1.
The DWORD 1 means device 0 for storage card
For example if i'll add another one:
folder on device "\My Documents\Recordings"
ADD new STRING
"sd_exclude_path_path_1"="\My Documents\Recordings"
ADD new DWORD
"sd_exclude_path_type_1"=dword:00000001
Restart device (soft reset), no need to hide any folders
Thanks for this
Hi Softappz,
Thanks for this solution just tried it on my HD2 and it's banished those pesky ringtones from the player
Doesn't work for me when I enter
"sd_exclude_path_path_0"="\Program Files"
"sd_exclude_path_type_0"=dword:00000000
It finds some ring tones in the sub-folders. Do I have to specify every single sub-folder?
This will serve me a lot! thanks
Didn't work for me. So I used the solution found here.
Quick note: Total Commander did not make sub-directories hidden as well. I had to mount my sd on my pc and manually set any folder I wanted as hidden. It all works flawlessly now
I still can't get the reg entries to work. I've looked into hiding folders and this doesn't work either.
The only way I can find to do this is to hide the actual audio files. This can be done in total-commander - but as akpidis found out if you want to hide sub-folders and files then you will need to do this from a PC. You can select multiple audio files from total commander (you can even do a search for all .mp3 files in sub-folders) and then set them as hidden, which may be better than hiding all files and folders from PC.
Hope this helps someone. (I'm using TouchFlo2.1)

Where are the ringtones/alerts?

Alright go easy on me guys. I searched the rhodium forums and all the results pretty much showed me to all the various rom's that are available, i guess the word ringtone, alerts or w.e must be in each one.
is there any packages out there somewhere for some custom ringtones? I want a bigger selection than whats available on my phone now. Any ideas?
You can use whatever mp3 file you want. Just put it in the "application data\sounds\" directory and you'll be able to select them.
I personally just cut out a part of a song to use as a ringtone and then use movie/tv quotes as SMS and email notifications.

Had Rhodium for a month, have a handful of questions

Hi, I came from the Wizard and am still learning my Rhodium, I have a few questions that will probably give me a "shoulda had a V8" moment once I hear the answers, but I will ask anyway...
1- how do I set speed dial?
On my wizard I was able to assign a button to a person and just press and hold.
2- is there any way/program to create a zoom function on the camera?
3- how do I make a tab/shortcut to NOTIFICATIONS?
4- I installed a Facebook app, other than putting it in the start menu or in the programs tab, is there a way I can create a dedicated tab (like people, calendar, messages, settings, etc) to go to Facebook?
5- where the heck do I put tunes I want to use as an alarm sound (not to be confused with ringtones)?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Here's me smacking my forhead...Shoulda had a V8!!

Voted.
I have tried dropping my sounds into the main windows directory, but when I go to set an alarm, it isn't reading my tunes. Perhaps there is a size limit or is it wav specific? I have even tried naming the file alarm-name as I have seen that in windows. I have tried resetting my device...nothing.
Do you have any idea what I may be doing wrong?
Again, thank you.

1. Go to the contact, hit the Menu softkey and "add to speed dial".
2. The zoom bar just below the TP2 screen zooms the camera.

I believe that alarm sounds must be in WAV format, or they won't be recognized.

Thank you, I didnt even know that, I should have RTFM LOL! but thank you!
It took me some time to figure out what the hell the zoom bar was, but now I think I have it.
I will try converting my files to wav format and maybe the alarms will work.
Setting a speed dial contact is next on my list.
Thank you for all the advice so far!!
Now does anyone have any idea if I can make a dedicated tab for Facebook, and also how to make a shortcut or tab for notifications?
Thanks in advance.
I am still trying to make more prominent/easier shortcuts or actual TF3 tabs for Facebook and notifications.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
I do have the Facebook app loaded in the programs tab and in the start menu. What I'd like to do is have an actual TAB...like Home, Weather, Programs...Facebook.

As far as I know those are preset into the 3d software, so its either going to have to be an update or one of the gurus here will have to hack the system.
For alarms, I like to use spoon alarm, it seems to work much much better at finding songs to use as alarms (and its really easy to use). Only thing thats no good is that you can't set multiple alarms like the windows one. Plus every soft reset you will have to reload spoon alarm for it to go off, but you can play music

To get them to show up for notifications and events:
- WAV files go in \Windows.
- MP3 & WMA files can work too, but you have to put them into \Application Data\Sounds
This should be the same for the alarm sounds, but I haven't actually used the alarm on mine yet (had it about 2 weeks).

[ringtones] lame question, you could save me time

i have RUU 2.2 on my Incredible. -- it only contained 1 Ringtone (Verizon Default).
my energy is focused towards projects for Cisco VPN and remote server support.
your 1 or 2 sentence reply can save me much time. -- thanks in advance.
where do i add custom audio files so i can quit using this awful ringtone?
system/media/audio
Thanks again!
The audio folder was totally empty. So I took the sub folders from cm6..
I find it interesting that there is a default ringtone if these folders disappear. I could never find the location of the default ringtone named "Verizon Default".
Well I have a similer problem but when I load files into the system/media/ringtones on the Incredilbe-4.06.605.2-Gingerbread-2.3.4-RLS2-Rooted-Signed they wont show. Also the ringtones that show up in my settings ringtones is in that folder so where whould they be.
I have spent hours trying to find them with no luck.

Question on custom ringers

Hello,
I'm still new to Android.
1. Can you tell me how to load a custom ringtone on this phone?
2. On my old WM phone I could set it to Vibrate 1st then ring so I could reach for my phone before it made noise (and disturb others) if I felt it vibrate. Is there any way to make this happen?

Look for an app called Ringdroid. You can trim and make any music on your phone a ringtone or notification...real easy to do.

Thanks - if i already have a ringtone (wav file for WM) I can't just load that to a directory on the phone?
I have a couple cool ringtones I've accumulated over the years that I'd like to get into my phone... They are mp3 format and I'm sorta lost as to how to load them in also.
Dont need any editing etc; just need to know how to make them show up in the ringtone list!
Its easier if you already have a ringtone that doesn't need editing to still use Ringdroid. Just open it up in the app and just save it like it is.

If its on your computer load it on your phone through Kies air. If you dont know what Kies is open the app on your phone and it will tell you what to type on your desktop. I think you'll get once you see
On the root of your SD card, create a folder called media, then create a folder inside that called audio. Inside the audio folder, you can create "alarms" "ringtones" and "notifications" folders. Then put whatever audio files you'd like in these respective folders. Reboot and the sounds should show up in the default selection list. Mine are all in mp3 format, I don't know if it would recognize wav files or not.

Thanks. I did as you said - didn't even have to reboot the phone.
Perfect!
Right on! Glad it works.
This is the first question I had when I got my Hero running Android 1.5, glad to hear it has persisted to gingerbread.

Any way to set it to vibrate first then ring? Basically I'd like the first ring to be a vibrate instead and then go to ring. It was handy on my old Vogue. I could leave it on ring but if I felt the vibration I could use my BT before people were annoyed by my ringer. It made sure I was covered in case I didn't feel the vibrate but it also made it more polite for people around me.

No setting that I'm aware of. To hack it you could create a ringtone that is silence for 5 or 10 or 3 secods at the beginning, then comes in with sound. Kind of a pain and would work only for that specific ringtone, but it would work.
