dual sim and sat nav - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Hi I have just received my XDA 11s, and this is my first post. Has anyone used the dual sim adaptor (DIGITAL Dual Sim III form 2 phones in 1)?
If you have does it work ok or are there some issues?
Also I would like to use sat nav. I have no experience with this in any form. What In your opinion would be the best system? I would like to use it for in-car and walk about in towns etc.
How do you keep the maps updated? Do you have top keep buying updates?
Thanks for any help sorry if the questions are a bit boring
Cheers
Ph236

I sue the "King of Dual SIM" adapter and I like it because it does not require you to cut the SIMS. It works fine & only cost about £10 from eBay
I use TomTom5 for SatNav - it allows walking route to be planned (not that I use them) and with a suitable GPRS connection, live (ish) traffic updates (subject to a yearly subscription). The traffic link has saved me a few times, but it ain't perfect.
You can also get traffic camera databases for teh common satnav systems (inc tomtom) & updates can be downloaded from the tomtom website

Dual Sim (Ghost Adapter) SHARE YOUR EXPERIANCE

many say dual sims work and many say they dont so whats the final verdict. i have an orange connection and they seem to scam me every month as i said too many text messages. i have just got one of those 300 free text message o2 sims and wanna use both of them togather without having to carry another phone.
i think you will find that your phone is locked to you network. so you won't be able to use the o2 sim.
SORTED!!
for anyone who is scare of doing this ive doen it and it works. i have an orange contract sim card and o2 onlien pay as you go sim card working togather. these sims are both new so this has nothing to do with how new the sim cards are so thats bull.
the adapter i bought was a cheaop chinese one rather than ones people pay £15 pounds for so its dosent matter if you see a cheap one.
the hardest part was cuttiing the sims cos i was scared i would make them useless but there were stickers that helped to outline how to cut them. still i had to cut some of the sim bits as well. works fine. another diffciult bit was getting the stickers off.
dotn worry after you cut them you get a resume card which you can use to make your sim normal again and it all works fine.
im me if you have any questions ill be more than happy to assist as i can...
I bought two adaptors because initially I didn't want to cut the SIMs and I had no idea how they phisically where. Here you can see the photos:
http://pof.eslack.org/blog/2005/05/19/dual-sim/
The first one doesn't fit, so I had to cut the sims and use the second one. It works fine for me. Just turn flight mode on and then off again to switch sims.
FYI I bought them at eBay, really cheap.
Were you able to fit it at the back? Were you able to close back the battery properly. I am worried that the space at the back will not allow such SIM adaptor. Waiting for your reply as I do intend to use another SIMCard if possible.
The one where you don't have to cut the SIMs doesn't fit, so don't buy it.
This one is the one that fits, because its the size of a single SIM card, but contains two SIMs:
http://pof.eslack.org/blog/wp-content/dualsimholder.jpg
the adpater is thicker no doubt. you can push it in though. if you dont wanna get it out every so often theres no problem. if you do then you are going to have a struggle. when you do take it out do it carefully cos you dotn want to break the clip that holds the sim. i havent broken mine but always scared i will.
BUY THE ONE WHERE YOU HAVE TO CLIP THE SIM. SOUNDS SCARY BUT IF I CAN DO IT SO CAN YOU. IM NOT GOOD WITH DELICATE THINGS LIKE THAT AND I MANAGED
forgot to tell you one thing. it does make life simple by not having to swap sims or carry two phones. the hassle is when you have to keep switching the radio off or dooing a soft reset to swap around. someone on this forum suggested a facility where you could use two sims at the same time so you could get netrwork from both. good idea but not possible i thought about it and im not a techie.everytime i go on the tube it swaps netwroks when im underground. that is a hassle but i guess theres good and bad things about everything.
read about the sim programming sim if you can get hold of that get it cos that sounds interesting. i cannotbe bothered as this works fine for me.
Why so confusion...Gaurav...go to any telephone shop and ask for a dual sim adaptor where ever u are in India....the shop man will show u differrent kinds of the adapters...choose one which fits your device ...
I am using the ghost sim,,,china made...in XDA2s very successfully since past 3 months.... 8)
hdubli... im indian but live in teh uk so its bit difficult. i saw them really cheap whilst on holiday last time. round here cannot find shops that seel them cheap so had to get it off ebay. think i got hold of the same one as you but i bet you got it 10 times cheaper than what i paid maybe you can start supplying to people from there. i dunno...
would be nice if there was an accessorties shop of some sort on this forum where people could buy tested items which are guaranteed to work.

It's about my personal experience with a twin sim ghost adapter and might contain information you consider useful.
Ghost Dual SIM
I bought a Php500 (around USD9) Ghost Dual SIM Adaptor.
It works flawlessly switching between my main Globe SIM Card and my secondary 24/7 Sun Cellular SIM.
Switching is done thru Flight Mode ON/OFF. Losing signal like passing thru basement parking and elevators does not switch SIMS.
As bonus, the local mobile phone accessory stores here in Philippines have their own puncher so trimming the SIM card is not a problem. They do it for free.

thats the same one which i had, it broke after about the 5th time i took it out
With that information, I will never remove this Dual SIM Adaptor until it is really necessary and unavoidable.
Actually, I installed mine in the store where I bought it. The first two adaptors were defective. Of course, I didnt pay for it. I expected high defects rate of these SIM Adaptors as they really look cheap construction-wise.
Multi SIM - SIM MAX - changing phone number by STK
HIIII! I'm from Portugal and i have bought a SIM MAX ( http://www.sim-max.com/ ), i´ve programed 2 of the 12 numbers that the card supports. In my Alcatel mobile phone it works, but in my Qtek 9090 only works with the 1th number, i can't change between numbers or networks....
Can any one program the Radio version to make it possible, in my alcatel, in STK menu e see the SIM options and i can change between the 12 numbers, but in my Qtek 9090 i can´t see the STK options...
Qtek 9090
Rom Version: 1.40.00 WWE
Rom date: 03/10/05
Radio version: 1.12.00
Protocol version: 1337.42
ExtRom version: 1.40.147 WWE
Be CAREFUL
while inserting the dual sim "container".
Not only is the cintainer "fragile", the QTEK ALSO.
I bought a dual and, while trying to insert it, I broke one of the two "metal clamps" that hold it on the sides.
Happily I can still fit the dual sim inside and, by pushing the battery on it, it stands still... and works....
However: since then the QTEK does not "feel" the backup battery anymore.
on every reset I get the "low backup battery msg" and indeed if I look at the battery level in settings a nice 0% is shown.
Annoying but at least I did not broke it altogether.
So: be careful and if someone has some clue on how to repair let me know.
Ciao

King of Doublecard SIM adapter

How many people on here have the king of doublecard twin sim adapter off ebay and how are you getting on with them?
Does the battery still fit ok?
Mine arrived today & I fitted it in a matter of a couple of minutes - the battery still fits, the two SIMs lie flat no problem.
I've also splashed out on the WIVIT SIM Status switching software
I have the one where you have to cut the sims, working very well. Done quite a few for friends, cant go wrong. Try it, no need to pay for a switcher, it has an stk app that does that
king of doublecard working great for me.
THANKS GUYS was looking forsomething like this, just orded mine

can you explain further ...with pics would be nice
thanks
anyone got a link to this on ebay? cant find it anywhere!
I did a post somewhere on the board showing you ebay links and methods.
I've got one without the stk app, so you have to go to flight mode off, then on, to switch, but cutting the sim cards, although risky, can be done successfully, as I've done it with an O2 contract and orange PAYG.
V
did people actually slice up their SIMs ???
Hi guys go mine and it works atreat now , bought it from ebay
Not going to lie to you, the product is made from poor  quality but from £3. I get my money worth, and it does the job the ways i can switch are either by doing a soft rest or by puting the phone into flightmode and then back to normal phone mode, , iv addedsomepics for your benifit.
Guys, I've got a magician and I sliced and diced my cards fine.
Had troubles getting the Magician to register the sims, but that was because of it not providing enough pressure on the back of the SIM (stick some paper into the metal sleave to correct this).
This is the ebay link for the one I bought:
Look for "UNIVERSAL DUAL SIM **SHIPPED FROM THE UK**". I cost me about £3. The card is fine, the guy was ok, but shipping was steep from London (ie P&P is hiked up, but overall can't complain).
It works, but there is another one out with an "STK" menu built in to switch cards by going into the SimToolKit program. However, it's easy enough to go to flight mode and back quickly enough to switch. I read that this one drains battery faster. No comment on that. It worked for me.
So: SLICING DOES WORK. But, do it carefully. I've posted about 10 times on this - do it carefully, ensure you remove the transparent guide sticker after the cutting, and check it in a nokia or another phone before putting it in the Magician, to convince yourself you've done the slicing correctly
That ebay guy will also "stamp cut" the cards for you for free if you post them to him.
Good luck!
No, it's not possible to have two sims working simultaneously. Best we can hope for is 2 lines per sim, like Orange's Line2 service.
There are some cards that are 16in1 card copiers etc. these don't work in the UK, and will fubar your SIM when trying to crack the encryption. Be warned
V
There was a phone once, sometime in 2000 I think, it was a benefon dual band (1800/900) that worked in europe. That phone had two SIM slots. Too bad they did not make more

2sims working at once in a pda,, i know mate but let me keep on hoping lol
what about the data settings then?
sounds great, I am tempted to go for it, but do you have to re-enter the GPRS settings each time you switch from a sim card to another? Since say, O2 and orange don't use the same proxy servers to connect to the web via GPRS, I guess the right proxy details must be entered after each switch. Am I wrong? Can you connect to O2 mobile web using your o2 sim card, then switch to your orange sim and connect to orange world without making any change to the connections details?
Cheers
I think you will have to reenter the details each time.
However, if you're in the UK, there are cabs available on the board, or from Buymobilephones.net, with all the settings in one file.
So, switch to o2, click the cab and you're running. And likewise with Orange etc.
V
You can create all different accounts in the network section and just choose the right one you want to use. I have one SIM now, but several accounts for GPRS usage, MMS, dial-up connections etc. I just select the one I want to use in Settings-Connections-Advanced-Select Networks. The only problems that could exist are with sms and voice mail accounts, but I think these are stored in the network in combination with your sim card, so these should be ok as well.
that's great -thanks

I am seriously considering getting a king of double card for my SX66.
Can I still use the apps on my SIM (the ones accessed through "SIM Toolkit" or will I lose that ability once I use KODC ?

I will have them here in the UK m8 don't worry. These are cut style ones m8. I will post pics when I get them. Thanks for the interest m8
do you ship to Canada?
yes I will ship worldwide
Hello!
Digital or analog? Cause I had a digital in my Orbit and I could watch the battery draining off. My fully loaded battery was empty after 2 days with max 15 min of use inbetween.
...bye DonQ
Can you tell me more about these? Exactly what will these provide and who with?
Thanks.
OK just to let you people know that's me got TWO in stock now at the moment, I will be ordering more once I know how people are interested. I have opened ONE up and TRIED it in my ORBIT and it is working PERFECT. I am in the UK and am using o2 AND mobileworld with NO PROBLEMS at all !
For those of you who don't know what this is, this is basically ONE SIMCARD HOLDER which allows you to use TWO simcards IN IT. So you can SWITCH between networks WITHOUT the need to SWAP SIMS !
Any questions PM me.
Cost is £12 delivered anywhere in UK
£15.50 for international
That is my prices so if anyone is not happy please don't post here, for those who are happy with the price then PM me to sort of details
Hi I am interested in these is there any chance you could post up some pictures of these and explain if any modification for the sim card is needed?
Also how do you switch between the two sims is there a menu etc?
PM sent m8, please check your inbox
I'm interested in doing this so I can use two sim cards in my XDA Orbit, I'm just a little bit concerned about cutting my SIM cards. Ideally I'd like to find a way of copying two SIM cards into a single new SIM but I've never seen anything like that.
Once you've fitted the dual SIM how do you switch between them or are they both active simultaneously?
nothing dodgy about cutting the sims m8, they come with GHOST sims which allow you to re-use your CUT UP SIMCARDS just as you would a normal simcard, simply place your small simcard inside the full size simcard and voila....you have a NORMAL simcard again. so you are NOT forced to use the dual sim if you don't want to.
cannot use 2 networks at same time m8, you have to switch between them but you don't have to turn the phone off or reset.
PM me for more info. already sold lots of these with no bad comments or problems so far. I was the first one to try it out, so I used my simcards and my own orbit as the test hamsters. so don't worry
Hi there,
I have still to receive the dual sim can you advise when it was sent?
Arrived now cannot wait to see if its upto the job?
yeah m8 really sorry for the delay, I am normally very quick with postage but had to go abroad for Chinese New Year so that was the hold up sorry. Anyway let me know how you get on as I personally use one and find it great.
hello
thesedual sim holders work a treat as i had one in my universal (xda Exec) and worked perfect. i sold the exec and bought the orbit and am still using the same dual sim holder, ie the cut version.
WORD OF WARNING - be very careful when cutting the sim as one wrong cut renders the sim useless and you will have to order another one, i know from experience as i have personally ruined one.... just follow the template and draw a line then using scissors cut the sim making sure that the line is visible and some of the extra sim part then use a blade to shave it to the correct size. this method worked for me for all the other times i cut the sim.
anyway once you have it working i have got a piece of software which a few of us 'developed' its called Wivit Sim Switch Software and basically you can use this program to switch between the 2 numbers without turning flight mode on and off, its quicker, and it tells you (most of the time) what sim is actually in the phone. This software was designed for WM2003 but we managed to get all the dll files etc and compile them into this utility. it is supposed to be a 15 day trial but the countdown timer takes a lot more than 15 days to count down, (i have neve seen it countdown to '0' as yet) so enjoy it.
download from www.our-xda.co.uk and in the tools menu.
thanks

Dual Sim Adapter for Galaxy S2

Hello everybody,
I've heard there's a dual sim adapter called MAGIC Sim for Galaxy 2..
My question is, does it work for both SIM Cards to be online at the same time? I don't want just to switch from one to another.
Please advise.
Hi As far as I know, you can't :/
No.
(You must have 2 radios in the mobile to be online with both at the same time.)
Hi, can anyone tell me where i can get this dual SIM adapter for S2 in India, and how much would it cost?

I am using this device Gmate from skyroam.com. It allows both SIMs to be online at the same time, by using a Bluetooth connection to the external Gmate device housing your 2nd SIM card. The configuration is like this:
Phone + 3G SIM: You can surf 3G, make, answer calls and SMS from here
Gmate device + 2nd SIM card: You can make, answer calls and SMS from here
Pros:
- Both SIM cards are active
- Convenient, both numbers are active at the same time
Cons:
- Calls can be very noisy, and sometimes the other party says they cannot hear you clearly
- Uses bluetooth, so it would drain your phone's battery easily
- Pricier compared to MagicSIM, I got mine for USD 100
- On the Android, Gmate's phone application is not that user friendly
For me, I can live with the cons and nothing beats the convenience of having both lines being active.
Christ on a crutch. I wasn't going to bother (already adequately explained that NO NORMAL TELEPHONE can use 2 sims simultaneously) until I read the last post plugging the "GMate". If ever there was a solution looking for a problem, that's it.
Dual sim ADAPTERS are only useful if you (for example) juggle a work and personal line. 6 o'clock, switch to your personal line. 8am, switch back to your work line.
If you NEED two lines active simultaneously and want the convenience of one device, simply buy a dual-sim phone - they've been around for many years!!

why not try socblue instead? it will make your note triple sim!
http://www.amazon.com/Socblue-Bluetooth-Transformer-Converter-Android/dp/B008NZFZV8
if it works out for you, let me know how well it works. (i intend to buy one also )
The socblue from Amazon is :
1. more expensive at 123 USD while the GPfile is 80 USD.
2. Amazon does not ship to my address.
Have seen a few similar devices here and there but I'm skeptical. Any " real life" reports from regular users? Seems to be the worst idea in theory: multiple devices to charge/carry, more power usage/less battery time on main device and possible/probable software bugs.
Looks interesting.
I usually carry 3 phones for 3 networks, IF this device can last a day of standby, can handle SMS/calls or data. It MIGHT be a good buy...
I've bought a "gpfile" on november.
It's absolutely functional, it can carry two gsm sim together with a full day of not intensive use. If you don't call it can work for two days.
There's only one little problem related to sms: its app is not able to handle sms from textual sender. In other words, if sender has a normal telephone number it work perfectly but if sender has (for example) "vodafone" as number it's not able to open message that always stays as unread, you can only delete it.
I use it with a galaxy n7000 with ics stock.

hi guys, n thks for contributing on that post !
i 'm very interrested by GPFile mini.
@ Fra21: could you please tell me if it is possible to receive incoming phone calls from senders throught ur sim card number select on it ??
Many thks
Pecon.
Give-me more feedback about this GPFILE dual SIM, because i´m want to buy one. How about the ROM, is it automatically recognized by the system?
Don't buy socblue , it is a great idea but THE WORST support ever possible !
Long sms won't work, the client will disconnect and hardly reconnect automatically. The UI sucks. You can see in their forums that basically they ignore users requests. There are lots of bugs and none of them were fixed. I bought gmate and at least it works. There are a few UI bugs, but they work very well overall and i charge it once every 4 days. Hope i helped.
I have tried them all, And IMPACT, I think they suck... Not got one to work

need buy something...
GPFILE mini is sucks?!?!? and other dual sim adapter works with network data? like 3G?
Socblue A860
I bought SOCBLUE A860.
Poor GSM signal reception strenght, even in coverage area. Have bugs in sms texting and no support from manufacturer. I was using it with Android, But it is really bad. People call me and it says "out of coverage" because when it is in my pocket, the signal strenghts reaches zero.
The bluetooth connection has a far range, about ten meters. It can charge your cellphone because it has two usb charging ports.
I do not recommend it.
Does anyone know if there is a similar product out there that supports AWS (a.k.a UMTS Band IV)?
Perhaps, has anyone tried putting in a T-Mobile/Wind/Mobilicity SIM in this device?
The supported bands as indicated in the product specification are GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz.

bind the device ( in the app not the Bluetooth ) and place it with the back outward (the antenna is in the back ) in a shirt or jacket pocket not in your pants
as for charging the gfile uses the same chargers as an iPhone/iPad i have some thing like this but with only 2 wires http://www.lightinthebox.com/3-in-1...r-iphone-5-and-ipad-mini-and-all_p496564.html
so i can charge my phone a sony xperia play and the gfile at the same time
