To Buzz,xda2jojo,mamaich,MDAIII user - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I was just trying to use SD card back up and restore to flash the ROM and upgrade. This process works flawlessly, when restoring to the same device, but if I use any other device from the same family and same bootloader version I get an error "Section =1 unable to update"
Can anyone help me why? I did tried using the search, read posts aboit the use of mtty commands etc etc...but couldn't find a solution...
May be one of u can throw some light on it...
Also if Buzz can explain how to put back the .bin file to ROM of PPC by using mtty commands, it would be really great.
Awaiting the favourable response

Sorry never used that funtion.

hi,
you get 'not allow to update' coz the SD backup header contains information specific to your SD card and device.
example:
if you do SD backup to card 1 on device 1, you can restore it ONLY from card 1 on device 1.
if you save data from card 1, put them on card 2 and try to restore it from card 2 to device 1, it will not work.
if you restore from card 1 to device 2, it will not work.
solution:
you have saved SD backup on your PC and you want to restore it on device XY with card XY.
put card XY into device XY and do the SAME backup set as you have saved before. then take this SD backup header and write it over your saved backup header. then, write that onto SD card XY and restore on device XY.
huh... well... I don't know, if it's clear now... ;o)))

Pull the card out and pop it in a Normal PC Card reader and see if you can see the contents. For some reason PPC's will occasionally corrupt the formatting of the card to majke it unreadable to it but PC's sometimes can. If you can read it with a PC, then copy the contents off, reformat usign the PC and copy the contents back and try it in the PPC again.
ok will do that. but isnt that dangerous to lose data tat way? also, when i could read the memory card, the folders r there but the files r gone. possible virus?
i can find my memory card on the card reader. i tried formatting it but it gave me an error "Window is unable to complete the format". What is wrong?
Were you able to copy your info off of the card? How were you trying to format it?
Make sure that you DON'T have a window to the card open when trying to format.
HELP ME WITH ADVISE!
My problem is back again. My data at certain folder in the memory card is disappeared but still able to browse the memory card. Then i soft-reset a couple of times and the data comes back. It took the dopod 838 pro to read the memory card very long time b4 able to show the data on the card.
What should i do?
Check the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager. There are two DWORD values - PNPUnloadDelay and PNPWaitIODelay. If they are not set to 8196 - do that.
its 8196 as posted...
Looks to me like 2 possibilities:
Your SD Card is shot; or
Your phone has lost the plot.
If it reads OK on the PC card reader, the card is probably OK.
I'd try a hard reset of the phone first. (Make sure you have backed up everything first.)
Also, clean the SD slot as best you can to make sure there are no biscuit crumbs or old socks fallen into the hole.

Seems like some problems with this card. You didn't try another one?

New SD card wont boot

Hi all,
Desires rooted, got a new MicroSD today and tried it in the phone and only get to the HTC logo then it just freezes there.
Formatted card to FAT32, tried, same.
Formatted and copied all files from old card to new one and still the same result.
Hoping someone can help?
Thanks
Anyone? Please help.
So it is confirmed that it works on other devices (for example card reader?). What rom do you use? Do you use A2SD with current phone configuration?
hi djoni,
Use AdamG froyo and apps2sd on old card.
new card does work on card readers etc. I managed to boot into recovery using recovery windows.bat.
then partitioned card SWAP=0, EXT2=512, then ext 2 to ext 3.
Phone boots up with new card installed etc but I now get force close on rosieutility?
With my old card I dont get this error.
Also.... when I try run adb shell to check if apps2sd is working on new card I get
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
Did you use Froyo's native app2sd or old school A2SD?
Adam's rom supports both of them, and previous boot freeze indicates it was the other one?
maybe it's missing something from ext2 partition of your old card (which is invisible on pc and you can't just copy it to your new card)
Maybe you should try to backup everything with old card inside, and try to restore it with your new card inside?
If it doesn't work, I guess backing up everything with titanium and old card, reflashing rom, and restoring with new card would solve the problem. Unless it's app2sd, I read somewhere that it's not supported by backup programs?
I'm not sure, I really don't have much experience... I'm just trying to keep this thread alive until someone more with more experience comes to rescue
Djoni,
Really appreciate all your help with this.
Taken me a while to set all up on my old card and scared if I reroot/restore etc I may totally mess it up and Ill be stuck.
Was only going to use the other card as a backup. I am using my goldcard as my card in the phone, so was worried if anything happens to that card id have problems. But I gues I can just do regular nanbackups before changing roms. Is this what you would advise?
nandroid wouldn't help, since you already have everything working fine with old card inside, right?
Maybe titanium could backup missing system data from ext2 on old card, and restore it to ext2 of new card, but I'm not sure...
Sorry didnt explain properly, think Ill just carry on using my old card and backing that up regularly instead of risking using a new card.
Good idea though, may try that anyway so I have a duplicate card for a rescue.
Anybody have any ideas about the rosie utility error?

[Q] HTC Desire how to create gold card without phone?

I attempted to manually update to Froyo on a rooted (came to me that way) HTC Desire.
I used the manual method described at geekword.net (google for it, I can't post links)
Unfortunately, I didn't know I was meant to use a gold card for the update.
So what I ended up with is a failed Froyo update, after the post-update reboot, the progress count will never get to 100%, as the phone goes into a reboot loop.
This wouldn't be an issue if I could reattempt the update with a gold card - unfortunately, in its current state the phone can't even see the sd card for whatever reason - the card isn't corrupt as I can continue to run the update.zip file from it - not that it helps.
With the phone connected to the PC, I don't have option to mount as disk drive. I can get the CID using Klutsh's Gold Card tool, but because I can't mount the phone, I can't copy the gold card image over.
Is there anyway to get the image over to the sd card and complete the gold card creation without going via the phone?
I dont really know for sure what the answer is to your problem mate but in the hope of getting this thread started I would be looking to download the original branded ROM and restore it through the bootloader menu so that you can start over. This may or may not work but its what I would be researching first.
When i made my gold card, i had the MicroSD in the phone to get the CID, but then i wrote the image to it using a MircoSD-to-SD adapter, just using the built in SD card reader on my laptop. Hope this helps.
JP
jamesmcuk > I tried a stock Telstra rom (this is an Aus phone) found online, it came back with something along the lines of 'wrong bootloader version'. I have a feeling that bootloader for the phone was upgraded either during the first root (by the previous owner) or upgraded when I updated to Froyo.
Are there any official rollback methods for failed Froyo updates?
JPDyno > Could you please outline the procedure used to copy the image over to the micro SD? I have a goldcard.img file from the procedure that I've performed to date. Do I copy the img file over using a imageburner? Do I need to partition the sd card or anything? Kinda lost as to the steps since I thought the Klutsh tool would take care of the copying for me - but it needed connection to the phone.
Thank you both for your replies, hopefully I don't have a fancy brick on my hands
Your phone should have come with a MicroSD card adapter, which looks like a normal sized SD Card, with a slot at the back to insert your microSD into. So you take out your MicroSD card from the phone, slide it into the small slot on the adapter, and slide the adapter into your SD Card reader slot on your laptop/desktop. If you dont have an SD Card reader slot you'll need to get a USB SD or microSD card reader. Once you plug it in it'll automatically detect the card as a disk drive in My Computer. Then you can follow the steps in the Goldcard Guide (install and run the Hex Editor...open the disk drive and the img in the Hex editor and copy stuff over...yada yada...)
Just out of interest does it still do a constant reboot if you remove either or both the SIM and the SD Card.
Also I found this guide for restoring the Nexus 1 which being so similar should contain some good info although you will need to find the ROM for the desire rather than the ones they post.

Yay, got it working!
Thanks for the prompt replies guys.
I followed the suggestions here (in using the sd card reader on my laptop), and used the steps starting with HxD from:
android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard
I managed to get a goldcard, and successfully updated to froyo!
p.s. the phone reboots even without a sim card - never tried without the sd card though - I needed it since the update.zip was from the sd.
Now onto exploring Froyo!
For all of those still wishing to make a goldcard sans phone, you can also find it here
http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
Get CID
At first I could not get the CID as well. The problem was, that I was in Fastboot mode. After changing into Recovery mode, I was able to use "adb shell" and then cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid to get my CID.
So now you can start to make your own Goldcard.

[Bricked SD card] SD Card Read-Only T_T please help me

I transfered stuff from my PC to my Desire LeeDrOiD 2.3b and now it says SD Card Read-Only no programs are running (stored on partitioned SD Card) nothing in the SD Card runs BUT i still CAN browse it with a File Manager.
PLEASE, Help me as this SD Card has EVERYTHING that keeps my phone running EVEN NanDroid Backup and contact and Titanium Backups AND EVERYTHING. PLEASE Help me..
UPDATE:
I went to check my NanDroid backup but it was 0B in size so i letterly paniced so i downloaded ROM Manager (Which i`m sure i had before but couldn`t find it)when i started it it said "The SD Card has to be mounted" then i double paniced so i made a ROM Backup ... it booted to recovery (then i remembered it needs SD Card to SAVE the backup) but luckily it`s BACKING UP RIGHT NOW O_O it waited 20 sec for SD to mount and now it`s backing up.
THIS THREAD isn`t over yet PLEASE keep it open.
i`ll update you with what`ll happen after the back up if everything ok then clode the thread or delete it. IF NOT T_T let`s just see what happen.
have you tried unmounting/mounting it?
if not try:
From fastboot via ADB, execute "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" and then reboot it with "fastboot reboot" command.
(Taken from user 3722's post )
The card seems to be mounted as it's visible in file manager, though in read only mode.
Maybe he should try to backup the data on the card, and then run a full format from windows.
PS: Nice to be quoted, though .

yh i managed to get to my SD card via recovery and mounted it to my PC
now i copied NanDroid (the new 1 not the 1 i trust T_T it`s 0B for some reason) and titanium backup which is OLD T_T i wasn`t planning on changing ROM so i just sticked to the NanDroid
a life saver question:
now my new NanDroid is 622 MB = 0.62 GB. So could it be a FULL BACK UP?
i`m thinking of buying a new 32 GB SD tomorrow to solve the problem.. so can i partition my new SD and then run the NanDroid backup and GET EVERYTHING BACK to NORMAL exept that i have 32 GB SD?????????
Please answer this
right now i booted the phone but nothing from SD is working so my ROM is still safe but my files aren`t
if the 32 SD NanDroid way doesn`t work then i have to back up EVERYTHING and that will take hours... T_T and my stupid PC isn`t doing "Copy ALL Paste ALL" for some reason i have to go over each handful of files to copy them.
1 last question (for this reply):
i partitioned the SD card before... so some people say that the "ext" -i guess- isn`t visible .... but will it be backed up in a NanDroid? and does it appear on PC -as i can see only a normal SD-
I cannot understand clearly your last question but:
If you think you can't bother with a format try to run a checkdisk with repair option.
I don't recommend you to run your nandroid now because it maybe corrupt, in my opinion the issues you are having are because your file system (the FAT) went bad.
And how come you can't select copy all/paste all?
If you are using win, try to select them all and add them to archive saved on your desktop, then after the full format extract them back.

wow O_O why didn`t i think of that (the archiving)
i just plugged it to PC and kindly the PC offered "Automatically fix errors" and "fix bad sectors" so i clicked yh sure why not aka "START "now it`s running (about 60%) wishfully this doesn`t delete anything...
UPDATE: it finished and went back (started again) (the PC "fixing" for the SD)
UPDATE 2: thanks "3722" and "mikep99" ican take over from here it`s done fixing now i copied all and pasting on my PC so everything is going smooth now, next i`ll format my SD card.
UPDATE 3 : THANK YOU for your help guys . no need to format i works. i don`1t believe i`m saying this but Win7 is AWESOME :`D

SD Card issues in Android 6

So I have a Samsung SD card and was immediately prompted to advise it was corrupt when I first flashed a CM/AOSP ROM. When I got the time to do so I backed up the contents, formatted from the prompt and copied stuff back over.
The problem now... The SD card cannot be written to by Titanium Backup. Edit the permissions platform.xml file you say? Nope didn't work. Nothing suggested worked.
I finally got it working by formatting everything, installing a Sense ROM and then formatting again once it said it prompted to. I can write to "SD Card 2".
However, I'm weary going back to AOSP/CW that I'll be back to square one again.
Has anyone encountered the same issues and what did you do?

Sort of. Every time I flash an aosp ROM it tells me the card is corrupt even if I'm just trying to use u it as portable/external. I backed everything up to my Mac book and formatted the card in the phone on CM13 but, when trying to transfer stuff back I lost my nandroids and a couple RUU.zip files. It still tells me the card is corrupted even though I did format it. I don't remember if I had write issues after that. At this point I have just about given up on aosp since I'm not going to copy and then format the card every time.
Same issue.
Does anyone have a solution for this ?

The SD shows up as corrupt, or Titanium can't write to it?
What did you try to do, and what were the results?
Posting "same issue" without giving any details is never a good way to post. More detail is always better.
Hi,
did you try this fix for TB?

No , I just get a notification that sd card is corrupt. There is option of setting it up too but in there when I select "use as portable storage , it asks me to format it ".
In any of the apps , sdcard doesn't show up or even option show sdcard.

I don't use AOSP ROMs on the M8, but I do on my Samsung Tab Pro 8.4. On that device, I get this error message (SD card corrupt) every time I flash an AOSP ROM. One thing that you can try which often works for me (but not always) is to put the card into a USB card reader, connect to PC. It should automatically detect the card, and give you a popup window asking you to scan and fix the problems. It has 2 choices with check boxes (forget what they say exactly) of which the first is checked by default, the 2nd is not (and takes a lot more time). Try the first choice, which should just take a couple minutes; and should also preserve the data on the card. Then re-insert the card into your M8 and see if it reads properly. If not, you may at that point want to copy the data on the SD to your PC while you can. You may need to resort to formatting the card, than copying the data back to it (I've had to do this at times).
I haven't seen any other solutions, or explanation of what is causing this.
