SOLVED deleted "pim.vol"- now s620 stays on the "windows mobile" boot screen
hi
can i just flash kavana again or do a hard reset??
cheers
i didnt get much of a chance to dig deeper into this..but i think you would have first had to change the registry entry if you were trying to move the pim.vol or the other .vol that holds your texts etc...to say your sd card....again..i didnt get too deep into this so i could be totally wrong.
but i dont have an answer for ya except for a reset and reload..
Have done a search, found nothing and am posting on here for help.
For some time now the email ounter on my device has been out by 6 items i.e. when there are no emails downloaded the device reports that there are 6.
My guess is that windows mobile stores the email counter somewhere in the registry. If that is correct could someone please tell me which registry entry it is and how to reset it?
If that assumption is incorrect how does one permanently reset the email counter in windows?
Many thanks
WB
PS Device and ROM details are in my signature below.
I used to run k's rom, and never had that issue, but he hasn't posted anything in near/over a year. Same for that rom.
It might be time to try another rom, or do a hard reset and start over.
WM 6.1 has matured, try one and see how it goes.
Boog,
Thanks for the response. It's definitely not an issue to do with K's rom, which I have been using trouble free for nearly a year. I simply deleted a load of emails off my device recently and found the counter set at 6 instead of zero.
If someone can't come up with an answer then I know I can resolve by doing a hard reset. However I am loath to do this as it will take at least 3 days to rebuild my device back up from scratch, even though my essential data is backed up. Don't really want to do this unless I absolutely have to.
I am certain this is a registry problem; just need a pointer as to where to go looking to fix it.
Anyone else able to help please?
Thanks
WB
Well, my rlToday skin uses the following key to display the UNREAD email count.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\State\Messages\TotalEmail\Unread\Count
Also, you might want to check in your mail folder in \Windows (unless you've changed it). This folder holds the body of emails as text files *.mpb.
Thanks Degaud,
Cleared the registry entry, powered off the device to ensure changes saved, rebooted and same problem. Despite the counter being reset to zero it seems there must be another variable involved elsewhere.
Appreciate the help but it looks like a hard reset is the only way out.

Before a hard reset
If you are willing to go for a hard reset, maybe you`d be willing to try this first this, it`s an old utility (freeware) but worked for me sometime ago.

Good luck
Luiggi,
Thanks for the heads up. No joy either so I have bitten the bullet and rebuilt the device from the ground up.
In truth it was probably a good idea to rebuild as I now only have half the number of applications that I used to have on it, my device has a new look and feel and, above all, is miles quicker than it used to be.
Appreciate the help from everyone.

Just started last night, my TP2 is showing 1 sms notification on TouchFlo3D and on the inbox folder. I have used Clear "Text/Multimedia" a billion times and also checked in another phone to make sure nothing is hiding on the SIM. Does anyone make a suggestion other than doing a master clear/reset phone?
Funny, I just solved this problem today and unfortunately, I had to do a hard reset (still backed up everything with with Sprie Backup thou.)
Well, you do have another option that didn't seem to work for me but it's worth a try, is to Regedit it. The location is HKEY_Current_User\system\state\Messages\sms\Unread and set the Count=0
When I tried, it would work, but as soon as I was to get another message, it jump back up to "2".
Good luck, Hope it works so you don't have to Hard Reset.
I will try, thanks for the tip
or this
find a program called fixedthreadcount and you just have to do a soft reset after running it.

Hello,
I attempted to post earlier but it did not seem to work, so go to this link it should fix your problems:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsung-i700/23911-1-unread-sms-count.html
Simply download the zip file, copy the exe file to your SD card, run it, and do a soft reset. Hope this helps...
Ok, so forget the link, simply download the attached file.
awesome, thanks a million for the prog. i tried the regedit 1st with no permanent fix, but the prog fixed it.
it worked. 2nd time i had this problem, first time i had to do a hard reset. thanks for the program!
Just had the same issue with my phone wouldnt delete a phantom message and the program worked great, thanks ARHMogul, appreciate it bruh
Man, I am just having no luck with this - mine is showing "2" unread - I have deleted all msgs - done a reg edit to "0" and I have done the fixunreadcount with a soft reset. What else can I try ??
@jurgy1, I just ran the attached exe and a soft reset but the unread bubble was still there. Ran the exe again and it disappeared.
@ARHMogul, thanks a ton! I'd hate doing a hard reset for such a small problem yet I'm sure I would've done just that if not for your help.
TY! worked for me......... even after doing a soft reset I "thought" it wasn't going to work, but I also had to click on the icon to get the 1 to go away.
fixunreadcount.exe worked like a champ. Ran the program, soft reset, opened the sms inbox and the (1) count was gone. Returned to the TouchFlo home page and touched the SMS bubble and the offending number vanished. Nice. Many thanks.
Just wanted to say thank you. I've search on xda and ppcgeeks for a bit now and didn't find this post until today. Sometimes the wording really matters when finding threads.
This solved my problem and I thank you. Little things like that bug me and I didn't want to have to hard reset the phone.
Thanks again, I'll be saving this little guy.
Verison TP2 and Resetting the SMS Icon to 0 - Forever
Has anyone tried this on Verizon TP2 and if so, does this program work good enough so when you get the next message, it doesn't re-appear. Mine started when I got a two part message from an T-Mobile customer that spread it over two messages. I read the first one, but the second one had already disappeared so it says 1. I reg hacked the counter back to zero, then the next message (even if it is not multimessage) goes back to 1 of course, but does not reset after reading it. It will go up to 2 and 3 and so on but after reading it, it never goes back to 0 without me going to a PMedit and resetting the counter to 0. The question is, does this fix count stop this from happening in the future, or just solve the problem now. If it just solves the problem now, I can PMedit it each time as easily. If it solves the problem forever, I am eternally greatful. Any thoughts? BTW, this only started happening when I got the multi message and it hasn't gone away since.
Thanks.. Rick
Thank you so much. This worked for me. I didn't want to hard reset. Anyone know what causes this?
Just a reminder - after you run the program and perform the reset you have to OPEN THE INBOX for it to "refresh". I was dismayed to notice it was still there after the reset, but after opening the inbox it cleared right out. I noticed this was a problem before on my original tilt, and am glad to finally have a solution!!

YOU ARE DA MAN!!! I called HTC and the lady told me the only way was to do a hard reset. I told her if i was about to do a hard reset because of their crappy software, then I should at least get a new damn phone out of it....
Thank you so much! Great work!
Excellent piece of software
fixunreadcount.exe works exactly as described in this thread. Thanks very much indeed.
fixunreadcount.zip is the best thing I've found!!! I tried to solve it whole weekend on my Touch Pro 2, but only this app works correctly. Editing registry was useless and other tools too. Thanks a lot for that small useful app
Hello all! I"m hoping someone can help me out here. Recently, I was given a free upgrade from the Sprint TP (Raphael) to the TP2 (Rhodium). While reloading my new phone with my previous roms, emus and cabs... I destroyed my dialer. KDialer skins is obviously not compatible with the TP2 and now my dialer is cut off... and not alligned (I have to hit 123 for 456 for example). I found Juggalo's TP2 skin and loaded that, but now I am missing the talk/end buttons, and slider for incoming calls (can still see my start page where that is supposed to be). How can I fix this with out doing a hard reset?
move the slider over to settings, then select all settings. Select system and then in there select "Clear Storage". This will erase the phone and take it back to the OS you got with the phone.
It' may not be the only way but it's probably the best way to get your phone dialer and all controls back.
Thanks, but after searching for a couple hours I found the resource file names for the dialar .bpm's and deleted them. Installed a Rhodium Black Dialar and I'm all set.... (BTW, the point of me posting this question was to do this W/O a hard reset, thanks for trying... )
Hi I have a HTC TP 2 and since yesterday it says that my password for the phone is not correct so i cant do anything with the phone. My password always is/was 1989 so there is no possibility that i fil in a wrong pasword. does any one hase experiences with this ?
Is there a solution without a Hard reset ?
this has happened to me also... I woke up and my phone was frozen, then I took out the battery to restart it... It didn't help at all. I think I may have to hard reset. I may have to lose my tasks and calendar schedules. AND photos...
No one knows any solution to this?
1. Posts with "Question" as the title are not helpful. Almost everyone in here is lookeing for help and descriptive titles help us help you.
2. After a hard reset you can get all your appointments, tasks, contacts back by simply resyncing to your computer. Assuming you're using Outlook, of course.
3. You should always keep photos and e-mails on your SD card. It is unaffected by a hard reset. There are several thread in here on how to change where your phone stores these items.
