Hi Everyone,
We got some requests to split this forum up into a WM and and Android section, please let us know your opinion by voting on the poll.
Thanks in advance!
Flar
Hey Flar,
We probably should either do that or simply rename the "General" to Android as most of (if not all) of the latest threads in that section have been about Android. I will probably be a lot simpler to just rename them. As far as the other threads (oder one relating to WM), we can transfer them to the ROM Development section.
But we should definitely do that since the Vogue has been one of the most successful devices for Android porting, so I think it deserves its own section.
My two cents...
Isn't the Touch General section already an Android section?

No, a lot of people still post application-related WinMo support questions there.
It makes sense the General forum should be for stock devices.
They get rapidly buried due to the constant Android activity.

Who uses stock?!?!?
If you have a good set of general guidelines (instruction sets and a good Q&A thread), there is no need for this "General" section.
In fact, that just gave me an idea...

Well, given the choice of "ROM Development" and "General", people put their questions in General.
Renaming the forums to "Touch CDMA Android" and "Touch CMDA Windows Mobile" would be satisfactory.

I think they're not planning to do this until the server upgrade comes in on the 11th.

Well, considering that it is only a matter of renaming the section, I don't believe that there is much to be done in that (especially considering that they have already renamed most sections on the site a few days ago).

nah.....
touch cdma General ---all the stuff that doesnt fit in the below...general questions about the device that are not development related this will clean up the development forums
touch cdma Android Rom Development ---self explanatory
touch cdma Windows Mobile Rom development ---also self explanatory
touch cdma Accessories ---need i go on
ps i vote yes again lol
The vogue and kaiser both need an "Android Development" forum since we are completely running android without windows mobile.
Android dev forum added!
This is a request for a moderator to start a CDMA Desire Subforum. Currently, all development for the Desire has been GSM only and most, if not all modifications will brick the new CDMA Desire. A subforum would help prevent a user from trying an incorrect mod for their phone and would pool resources for development for the CDMA Desire.
+ 1
Sent from my (CDMA) HTC Desire
If I were you, I wouldn't ask for a subforum off of the Desire section - I'd ask for a completely new device forum.
The CDMA Hero was originally a subforum of the GSM Hero's forum, and was later moved into it's own forum. Better to start that way IMHO.
Regards,
Dave
you should post this request in about xda-developers.com in the main forum so the admins can read it

Wasn't the CDMA Hero essentially a completely different phone to the GSM one?
Is the CDMA Desire completely different to the GSM version, apart of course from the radio?

No - it was pretty much the same phone in a different case, with a different Qualcomm chipset to support CDMA.
The CDMA Desire uses the same case as the GSM Desire, but again uses a different Qualcomm chipset to support CDMA.
Regards,
Dave
Very much agreed. With only a single forum for both phones its making it harder to find support, as well as customizations.

The phone is end-of-life now. It pretty much doesn't matter. There is no way anyone is going to look for and move all CDMA threads. Its not likely there will be many CDMA threads newly created.

Yes of course
Can we get an admin/moderator to make us a CDMA subforum. Surfing through all of the GSM rom's gets a little tiresome, and I was just hoping you could give us some CDMA Desire Love (bravoc, desirec all the same) Thanks in advance, you guys are the best.
Yes, that would be great please!
I too made a request and was only told " admins are aware of this ". No other info as to if they will or not :-(.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I also would love this. I bet people would not miss the "does this work with my BravoC" posts I make.
bump. we have a lot of interest in the CDMA Desire (BravoC) Forum. please implement.
bump again, i would really like to be able not to surf through legions of GSM roms to find ours.
yes please!!
Pretty please?
Please give us a Desire CDMA forum
Bump this. Desire CDMA is only a few regional US carriers and rest is all GSM. The signal-to-noise ratio is way low for us CDMA users making it very difficult to find information in those forums that is applicable to us. I think there is plenty of CDMA activity going on that would warrant it's own home. It just gets buried by GSM activity. Thank you for your consideration.
Obligatory monthly bump
I second this request. Or tenth it, apparently.
Between Wikipedia and PCD, it looks like the HTC Desire CDMA/BravoC is available on Alltel, US Cellular, Cellular South, nTelos, Strata Networks, Bluegrass Cellular, United Wireless, and Cox.
I know firsthand that it's the top-of-the-line on Cox. I'd really like to avoid getting lost in the forest of tantalizing GSM kernels and ROM builds I can't use.
A CDMA Desire forum would be great. Does any one know of a rooting method for the Desire and custom roms

Your cries have been heard...we'll add CDMA Desire section. Is it adequate to add a new subforum under the existing Android Development forum that is called "Desire CDMA Android Development" ?
Bump this too. I recently posted the same tread on this section.
Is really annoying to search the GSM forum for our ROMs.
At least make a sticky tread on the GSM Forum

That would be great. I don't know if there would be enough distinction in the Q&A or general categories to justify separate forums but CDMA development is getting lost in the forest of GSM.

Hello developers,
A thread has been created to help to make the honeycomb functional.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025263
Please share your knowledge and let's make this sweet.
**The thread goes for both the GSM and CDMA versions
This is why I think it was a silly idea to split GSM and CDMA forums, they could have clearly been separated by peoples eyes and tags. Now we have to mess about going back and forth instead of having everything in one topic/forum

it would be wise to create another forum, this time with mixed topics from both, like this case

Indeed, Or just scrap the splitting of GSM and CDMA altogether.
A dedicated HoneyComb forum would be a good idea though.
Now we have 4 hc threads going its bound to get confusing

I'd prefer a dedicated honeycomb forum.
I find the forums much better now.... as a euro gsm tab owner I no longer have to sift through all the non-relevant info for gsm tab topics and I'm sure cdma users have similar views.
So we have *another* honeycomb thread that just links us to another Honeycomb thread? Jesus. This GSM/CDMA split was a bad decision.

I don't think it was a bad choice, I just think people are to lazy to open up more than 1 tab at a time in their browser. I don't have any problems keeping track of various threads in various forums... that's what the subscribe button is for! I do think that this and it's attached thread are a very bad idea, considering we have a GSM and a CDMA post already in place to track the development. There (shortly) wont be a need to cross-check between CDMA and GSM platforms, because they will become their own entities... they just are not at the moment. (At least not in the Honeycomb realm)
Everyone in the HD2 forums thought separating them as they are now was going to be bad... but jesus, with 7 OS's on one device, that'd be ridiculous...

the purpose tf link to the other thread is to attract the GSM Devs to the HC thread, it is not a GSM or CDMA division here, many GSM devs don't check that CDMA often so this link-thread is for gather everyone in one place.
we had 2 or 3 HC threads but none was purely for general development, so this one is for that.

No, this one is to point people to that one and that one is just a copy of information available on the other two... It's redundant.
Trust me, GSM devs are checking all the forums... If not, than they are cruddy devs.

I guess that is true, but that's xda for ya! People don't like searching.
We have Specemooses update thread, the CDMA and GSM rom threads. This thread and the thread this links to are unnecessary IMHO.

yeah, I get it.

hey all!
just got my sprint htc one m8 a couple days ago (coming from the GSIII), i'm rooted, s-off, and excited to jump into all the new roms... one thing though, i noticed in the sprint htc one m8 forums, there's really nothing in the Original Android Development section, and some roms in the Android Development section. but on this forum (nothing specific to a carrier), there's a whole slew of roms in the Original Android Development section!!! i'm just skeptical and don't know if i have to stick to roms in the Sprint forum.
any help or clarification about the possibility of using roms in this forum would be much appreciated!!! thank you!
Your best bet is to take a look at the ROMs and see if they specifically mention Sprint support or not. If it doesn't specify, search the thread to see if it's been asked. If not, ask. I know for a fact that some do, but not all of them. Enjoy the new device!
