Indeed clicking as much as one time on "Bluetooth Explorer" will cause TomTom not to function properly any more (maps/voices not found etc.).
I have learnt that the hard way!!!
Many members of this forum speculated that the Artemis SD card housing is somehow related to TT's maps to vanish.... NOT TRUE!!!
After a hard reset I have tested that TT was fully functional and I have (intentionally... just to find out) clicked on Bluetooth Explorer and BINGO the TT6.1 maps&voices are GONE!!!
If some of the forum experts would happen to read this and would feel like giving instructions to disable Bluetooth Explorer it would be very helpful.... this will surely avoid SEVERAL hard resets to many people.
I have read that one should go to Settings/Connections then select the FTP tab and uncheck "Enable Bluetooth Explorer" but this is not to be found on my ARTEMIS (P3300)... Let's see if somebody will find a moment to share his/her wisdom with the rookies and shed some lights on this annoying problem.
Cheers!
SiperX
On my Orbit you do the following to disable the Bluetooth Explorer
Settings / Connections / Bluetooth / FTP (tab)
Then select or de-select Bluetooth Explorer.
I appreciate your kind reply Patrick but as you can read in my thread this path (Settings / Connections / Bluetooth / FTP (tab)) is not available in the Artemis/HTC P3300.... Anybody else?
Do you have a comms manager? If so you can access the ftp option of the bluetooth settings from here.
TomTom and Bluetooth explorer both work on my xda orbit.
herghost, what version of TomTom are you running?
I m unable to have Bluetooth Explorer enabled on my Orbit, and get TomTom to find the maps. I am running ver 6.02
perfect, i wasnt able to make tomtom recognize maps on orbit(on universal it works w/o probs) i switched bt expl. off and it works. thx
Guys, there is no doubt. TT (mine is version 6.1) and BT Explorer are NOT going to work together! I am glad to hear that phsnake could get his orbit to resume TT functions.... And (also) I found out that my old rom (the one originally shipped with the P3300) had the path (Settings / Connections / Bluetooth / FTP) to disable BT Explorer (as Patrick_UK explained) ... but the one I am using now does not offer the chance to enable/disable BTE.... any registry master would be kind enough to offer his/her expertise to make this possible? I am not so keen on editing the REG unless I know exactly what has to be done
rom 1.28.0.0 wwe
rom date 11-06-06
radio 02.69.90
protocol 4.1.13.30
ext. rom PDAMobiz.com
SiperX:I'll try today to find reg solution, i cannot promise anything, but i'll do reg export with btexpl. switched on, then with switched off and compare reg.files. hopefully i'll find the right one key.
Phsnake, this sounds like a great idea! Thanks in advance!!! I really hope that you can succeed and give me support in this matter.
By the way where did you find the rom (ROM: DOPOD IPL: 1.25.0001 SPL:1.27.0000 GSM: 2.69.90 OS:1.28.0.0 WWE) you are running now? It sounds lke the right one for my T-Mobile Artemis.
so i compared the regs and diff follows:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BluetoothFolder]
"EnableClient"=dword:00000001
"HDEVICE"=dword:00031380
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active\68]
"ClientInfo"=dword:00000000
"Hnd"=dword:00031380
"Key"="Drivers\\BlockDevice\\BTDisk"
"Name"="BTD1:"
i guess all U need 2 do is change "EnableClient" from 1 to 0. try it and let us know. (i can disable it thru bt settings). or remove above posted reg entries.
ROM:its standard dopod shipped(the latest one) should be on wm-gurus.com
Thanks man! The registry editing you suggested worked and the BT Expl. is now OFF and TT finds the maps again!!!
But the option to enable/disable the BT Expl. (via BT settings as you say) is still not available any chance you could send me a screenshot of your reg for both [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BluetoothFolder] and [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active\68]?
For your Dopod rom, could you please give me a precise link where I can download it? I could not find it at wm-gurus.com.
Thanks a lot
ftp.wm-gurus.com/Artemis/Shipped_Complete_Updates/ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe
yes i know that wont allow u to switch off btexpl. thru bt control panel.
Here are regentries U requested, but i dont think it'll help. but try.
Thanks again!
BTW, the same file (ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe) was available at XDA too.... I have tested it a few weeks ago it and -being an AU (Australian rom) my sim (Dutch T-Mobile) did not get registered as the operator is apparently not quoted .... strange that you can use it in Scotland.
For regs I will see what I manage to put together and will let you know... Great (and prompt) support was very appreciated...
Hi again,
I have flashed once more the ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe onto my Artemis and I have (FINALLY) noticed that the SIM does register and I am able to use the phone (incoming & outgoing calls).
The only problem is that every time I reboot I get a notification from the "NETWORK WIZARD" which says "your current operator (20416) is not supported. You should obtain an update from your device vendor".... Any idea how I can get this nag off my back?
Thanks
try to check \windows\startup
I have deleted (& made a copy for backup) these 5 files:
netwiz.cpl
netwiz.dat
netwiz.exe
netwiz.exe.0404.mui
netwiz.ini
from the Windows folder of my Artemis.
After rebooting the Network Wizard notification does NO LONGER pops up!!!! So I would say "Problem solved", right?
I am glad that -thanks to the recent communications we exchanged- you "inspired" me to give one more try to the Dopod rom and I finally seem to have found what I wanted.
Only one final point: In other roms if you click on the phone signal bar you get the option to turn on/off the flight mode and if you click on the icon on the right of the phone signal bar you culd turn on/off the WiFi... in this rom you get a small (blue) Comm Manager link to follow in order to enable/disable these functions.... did you find any faster ways to activate WiFi or Flight mode? May be they can be added to the voice commands?
Cheers
u can use phonealarm-some skins supports one click wifi, gprs, btooth switch,
I saw phonealarm but I have decided to spend the end of the weekend configuring my newly installed rom (immediately after I will make a Sprite backup) and along the way try to think of something to keep to a minimum the amount of additional SW installed. What do you think if I use "tray launch", would that allow me to make the necessary shortcuts?
By the way (with previous roms) I kept my Artemis overclocked at 240 Mhz and it was pretty stable, did you test any higher frequency on the Dopod rom?
Microsoft are going to release WM6 with the ability to enable (DUN) for legacy devices, I.e. TOMTOM GO series... are there any cooks interested in releasing a ROM with this option enabled?
this would be great. if this was done i would have nothing to complain about with wm6
Same here, it's just the final thing I need for a perfect WM6 ROM.
One vote more
Same, here. I also tried to use DUN on WM6 with TomTom Go. But apparently WM6 lacks DUN support in Bluetooth Stack.
Does anyone have a fix for this or is there any good WM6 Rom out there with Bluetooth DUN support?
Yes-Sir-Eee
I would love to see that, my 910 won't use the services without DUN...
I was browsing earlier and I think I saw a .cab file in the Wizard forums for PAN support in Windows Mobile 6, however I don't think that anyone said that it worked.
Really?
Point me in the right direction & I'll happily give it a whizz...

I downloaded the CAB from here, and installed on my Wizard. It says it installed but does not work.
Here's some more info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307235&page=2
I can confirm this fix
Used trinity files posted by MuN on the above thread.
heres what i did
Installed cab - soft reset
pasted all files from zip in windows folder - soft reset
then unpaired tomtom 910 and reparied, hey presto it found DUN support
Perfect, have been waiting for a fix for this
I've run the .cab and copied the files into the Windows directory, however I'm having a real headache trying to configure a data connection.
Which device to choose for TomTom GO 910?
@the.drone
I followed your instructions and now my TomTom reports that my phone has DUN capability. Problem is HTC TyTN or HTC Hermes ist not listed as phone in the phone list and automatic configuration does not work.
Can you please give instructions which phone to use or how to configure the data connection manually? Because DUN support which can't be configured is as good as no DUN support.
Thanks a lot.
Marc
it just worked first time automaticaly with mine, maybe i was just a fluke but it found the data coonection first time on 3g
How can I find out my TomTom thinks my phone has DUN?
Edit: when I try to add my TomTom to my Hermes, it only brings up a handsfree tick box, when in Windows Mobile 5 I think it also brought up two additional tick boxes. Any ideas if this is following the path to success of if I've screwed up?
Double post.
DUN Doin' it
Will be giving it a go first thing in the morning.
Cheers for the update, will post results....
Bargain!
You eff-ing ROCK... DUN on WM6.
My TomTom 910 loves you!!
Hoo-haa!
How did you get it to work?
So can someone share how they did it?
I followed the instructions and it now finds my ttg 300, and says it has the services - but can't set up the actual DUN connection either manually or automatically!
Any ideas?
Matt
I really am sorry to be a pain in the butt, but I'll outline what I've done.
1). Paired my Hermes up with my TomTom 910.
2). Run the .cab.
3). Soft reset.
4). Copied the files into the Windows directory of my Hermes via the storage card.
5). Soft reset.
6). Repaired my Hermes and TomTom 910 after having deleted the previous connection. At this point it says "The following features were found: Hands-free calling, Wireless data connection, Phonebook".
At this point I try and setup a data connection that it hits the fan. It's really annoying because it feels like I'm falling at the final hurdle. I also wondered if I was struggling because of an issue with connecting to the T-Mobile network, however am I right in thinking that mccreath's using a T-Mobile GPRS contract SIM connection?
hey people I need some help
I regularly use my Vario2 as wireless modem but since I've changed my rom to the Black Satin one I no longer have Wireless Modem in my programs. I thought it might be on the T-mobile cd but it doesn't appear to be.
SO... how am I supposed to set up the Hermes as a USB modem now im running WM6?
Apologies in advance if there is a really obvious solution to this that im missing!
cheers

seek for Internet Connection Sharing in your program.. that's yr wireless modem app..
I first assumed that Internet sharing would have something to do with it but how do I get it to work? When I first connected the phone to the usb Vista automatically installed drivers but since then I've been unable to work out how I set it up as a modem from there so any help is greatly appreciated .
Hi All
I'm trying to track down a rom which has Bluetooth DUN installed. CyanogenMod 5.0.8 test 7 has it installed but the rom is a wee bit buggy. Any recommends?

I'm just wondering, why do you need BT DUN when you have wifi tethering?
I need bluetooth DUN so my TomTom GPS can talk to my phone
Try to search "pda net" in Market. Is it what you want ?
Hi
Nope been there, tried that
It does not have full DUN, i.e. it won't talk to TomTom. Sent them a email asking for help.

does tomtom work on android ???
Yes, install CyanogenMod 5.0.8 test 7 and Tomtom will work with traffic updates (which is what I want DUN for). This early test is just a wee bit buggy for day 2 day use.
Its an issue that has been long outstanding:

There is even a module which could be compliled, which is in 5.0.8 test 7:

I agree, it would be nice to have this
Might have a play see if its possible somehow. Busy schedule though, but I'll say if I have any success...
because CM5 supports it, maybe CM6 supports it, too. And if CM6 supports it, then maybe OpenDesire and DeFrost which are mods of CM6, too.
I've tried both cm6 and frost. Both from what I can see neither has it installed. Anyone else confirm?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
*UPDATE*
I've now tried both (thanks to Rom Manager) and neither have BT DUN.

Any luck in finding anything?
So it seems Bluetooth DUN is not very popular these days (probably because most are using WiFi which is faster, in terms of speed and battery drain).
But I really need it for my new Mercedes C-class which has 'Comand Online' with internet connectivity based on BT DUN. Currently only most Nokia and Blackberry models are supported because they have native Bluetooth DUN.
Programs like PdaNet won't work because they need a client running on the device and I obviously cannot install anything on the Comand Online (no it's not a typo ) system of the Mercedes.
Any suggestions for a decent BT DUN program or Android ROM/kernel? A proper BT DUN implementation should obviously be done in the kernel. I read reports that Moto Droid X devices had success in similar scenario's and CM5 was supposed to have it in it's kernel... :-(
Anyone?
Bump...anyone?
This would be great but i think its a goooooole thing...
The only way i think thiswill happen is with a custom rom.
Anyone know anything about this stereo -
http://www.parrot.com/usa/products/bluetooth-hands-free-car-kits/parrot-asteroid
Even, where it can be bought, how much it is? What OS it runs for that matter?
well it says that it has Android embedded, so the OS is Android
it looks pretty interesting too...
as for when/where/how much, the site says "Coming soon in 2011", so I'm guessing that it is yet-to-be-offered and they may not have decided their MSRP yet.
William
First, I don't know if I can post links yet. Second, I'm too lazy to dig it up. They had an article on Androidpolice during CES that included a speaker from Parrot showcasing it. I think he said a Q2 release. I'll be getting this the second its released, regardless of price.
anyone have any more details on this? Q2 is all they're saying...
I want one now!!
For the European markets, they say May. Hopefully the beginning of May
Hope they didn't get a developer team from Motorola, then it's going to takes at least another year
next week
i was infomrmed dynamicsounds expected to be stocked next week
wonder if its worth getting
i am currently considering getting it as i need a car kit any way
apperantly they are avalible as of today at 289 euro in the netherlands
I have one
I currently have an Asteroid sitting on my desk here
When I find some time tonight I'll take it for a testdrive and let you guys know!
Excellent. Please let us know.
What apps are available at the moment?
Im hoping for Spotify and proper navigation once the sdk is released...
Yay, someone that has the Asteroid!
Please, let us now!
And, tell us how the music player works.
I want to hook a big memory card, or if there's room a 40GB laptop harddisk to the unit.
Also, streaming from Bluetooth from your phone. Btw, what kind of phone do you have?
(And hmm.. Gorinchem.. That's not that far from my weekly commute.. )
Asteroid
Been driving around with the Asteroid for a while now and it's a pretty neat radio but not perfect.
Building it into the car was a breeze. With the radio came all the needed cables, like a 3,5mm jack, iPod cable, USB cable for usb-sticks, GPS dongle and microphone for the carkit. All cables were pretty long so you should have no problem routing them to whatever place you want them in your car.
Soundquality is pretty good and there are plenty of connections for subwoofers and external amplifiers so it should suffice even for cars with loads of fat speakers.
Connecting my phone, an HTC Desire with CyanogenMod 7.1 (nightly build), was easy through bluetooth and streaming music over bluetooth went without problems. Answering phonecalls and navigating the menu is pretty easy.
A few problems I ran into though. To use internet on the radio (for google maps, internet radio, coyote speed camera alerts) you can either use a 3g USB dongle (which costs you at least 10€ a month where I live) or tether your phone through bluetooth (maybe usb works, haven't tried yet). To do this, your phone needs to support the bluetooth DUN profile which android lacks. Nokia phones should be no problem though. I've tried using 3rd party apps like PDANet but to no avail.
Furthermore I found that the device lacks some tweaking capabilities. For example, when i'm navigating my contacts from my phone, the device tries to "read" the contacts for me using text-to-speech. I've found no way to turn this off. Furthermore I could find no option in the settings to turn off the traffic announcements from radio. The device now switches to radio when i'm listening to music from my SD card to bring me the traffic information (Which can be skipped by pressing the "back" button). Finally, the device came with a Dutch language setting and i've found no way to turn this to English, which is the language I prefer.
Please note, I have only used this radio for a short while and I might've missed some things! I think this is a very nice radio though and since it is the first model and only out for a week or so now I think there will be some updates from Parrot's side, perhaps expanding the capabilities of this device. The only major drawback is the lack of internet connectivity if you have an Android phone. This is not Parrot's fault though but rather Google's. I heard though that Honeycomb supports Bluetooth PAN and I think the Asteroid supports this for Internet tethering so i'm keeping my hopes up for Android Icecream to bring this feature to my phone.
Pro:
- Lots sources for music: Radio, USB stick, SD Card, iPod, 3.5mm Jack line-in
- Android with Google Maps
- Speed camera Alerts
- Large screen (for a single DIN radio unit)
- Lots of cables came with the Radio (With a Pioneer your need to buy overpriced iPod cables separately)
- Its a handsfree carkit, and Parrot knows how to make those by now
- Lots of tweaking possible with the sound
Con:
- Internet does not work with Android phones (yet)
- Lacks certain tweaking possibilities in the settings menu
Feel free to ask any questions
Thank you for the excellent review.
Those drawbacks are major issues,
but Im hoping Parrot will come up with some patches
soon.
The Asteroid is not on sale here yet, and it might take a while.
But I am going to Holland later this month..
Anyone know a place close to Schiphol that sell Parrot equipment?
I also have the Parrot Asteroid for a few days now. But I can't get thetering trough Bluetooth working on my HTC Desire Z (Android 2.2).
I used an app called "PdaNet" or something, with that I can enalbe "Dun - Dia-up Network". And I can make a connection with the parrort trough Settings > Network > Bluetooth. But as soon as I try to use an application that uses internet, it won't work and says I need a internet connection.
Anyone know how I can use DUN or PAN, because an Asteroid doesn't have WiFi and can't tether trough USB ??
Thanx!
RobertR21,
Android does currently not support PAN or DUN so using that is probably not possible without any 3rd party software. I tried PDAnet aswell but it did not work.
You might try connecting your phone to the 3G dongle port on your asteroid through USB, as android supports USB tethering, I have not tried this myself. I can verify though that DUN works, I tried it with my Nokia and it worked flawlessly.
I hear there's rumours on the Internets though that Android icecream is going to support PAN though, so maybe then we can use our android phones. Maybe before that time Parrot will find a solution.
Does anyone know which 3g USB dongles work with the Asteroid?
In my case: I have a Trekstor/Huawei MiFi which can also be used as a "Stick" - Will this work via USB? My Asteroid Device ships in (wish me luck) tomorrow. Pimpin' my Ride is planned at Saturday ;-)

Hi, I've got the this Parrot Asteriod also.
And For you guys I can use bluetooth internet though my old HTC Hero. I can do it also with other phones. but there is a trick for it.
First root your phone, this is absolutely nessasary.
Then download from the market 'Wireless Tether for root users'(it is a free app).
This one has internet tethering through bluetooth.
Go to menu and select bluetooth instead of wifi.
then go to access-control and eneble it.
Make the bluetooth visible in the tether program.
On the asteroid go to setting and then network and then bluetooth is will find your phone(again) and press the nice parrot butten and it connects.
then on your phone again give it authorization to use the tether and you have your internet.
One problem is that you have to connect manually every time. (your carkit does it automaticly) but not the internet. But at least you can then enjoy your live radio and google maps if you want to.
You only have to have the tether active and connect only through the radio other steps are not needed anymore after.
Internet through usb with your doesn't work, to bad.
One issue that I've encountered with this radio the front panel will become pretty hot after playing an half hour on a high volume. does anyone else have this problem also?
Hi,
I am also considering getting an Asteroid. I have several questions:
- Is there also offline navigation available?
- Can any app from the normal market be installed? Or is there a special Parrot market?
- What Android version is installed?
- Anyway to root it? (What ever functionality this would add?)
Greetings

For disablieng the traffic information go to tuner, select a radio station then press the menu button there you can edit if you want traffic information on or of.
text to speech, try the menu button in the app contacts you can change it there. I like that so I didn't look at it yet.
The most options regarding a app can be found in the app it self. try to look for tweaking option there.

Everyone can correct me if I'm wrong
anyone already tried getting in touch with the radios file system?
I assume those usb ports only are usb hosts?
there's a new firmware out:
http://download.parrot.com/Parrot_Asteroid_soft_update/asteroid_update_fr_FR.plf
It's nearly 90 MB, so it looks as a complete android software build.
can we get this extracted? modders, come on
EDIT:
there exist some plftools for other Parrot Devices. Maybe they can be used to extract useful stuff out of the Asteroid firmware files...

parrotparts=nand0:256K(Pbootloader),16M(Pmain_boot),4M(Pfactory),241408K(Psystem) console=ttyPA0,115200 loglevel=8 update
maybe it is possible to divide the plf file into parts and mount them somehow? (http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=478.0)
