thank f*** for sprite backup - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I just had by XDAIIs hard reset on me when I was changing storage cards :!: :!:
I took the opportunity to look at starting with corporate mode & think I might rebuild and use it in future, but Sprite backup saved my day.
Once I'd re'synced using active sync, I reinstalled Sprite onto the device and then restore from my last daily backup (taken at 5am this morning)
After 15 minutes or so, I had everything back as it was & saved myself a whole lot of pain recovering/reinstalling everything
Just thought I'd share my experience

If you chose to "make executable backup file" or something like that.....you don't even need to reinstall Sprite backup after a Hard reset!! Just execute the file and your device is restored!!
Oystein

sounds good in principle, but how do you do that with Sprite?

Within SB
Options>Switch to Advanced Mode>Backup Options>General Backup Options>Create self-rstoring Backup Files

Cheers - I've found that option on the phone & set it - thanks. I'll try a backup later today when I'm back home. Does this option work for backups initiated on the PC or do I need to initiate them from the phone?
Cheers

What Version of Sprite backup does this and have they fixed the issue with txt messages? With an older version after recovering with Sprite Backup V3 I think the phone would flash to say it had received a text message but no new messages where displayed on the phone?

I have an XDA lls with active sync 3.8
Rom 1.40.00 WWE
Rom date 03/10/05
Radio Version 1.12.00
Protocol Version 1337.42
ExtRom Version 1.40.923 WWE
Active sync has a backup is this not good enough.
also what is Corporate mode?
I have only just got the phone so I dont know much.

doesn't xBackup come with all of the OS builds by default? I have used it to restore my device a couple times just fine.. and best of all its free and works

Sprite Restore after upgrade

Hi!
Yesterday I have upgraded my iMate and used Sprite Backup function for restore after upgrade.
Everything more or less fine... but now I have a doubt:
1) I can see all the programs in the program folder the same way I had organized them before the upgrade... since the upgrade included an updated Extended-ROM, is it possibly that by restoring my Sprite Backup (even if using it's upgrade version) I have actually restored to my upgraded PDA an older extended Rom version?
How can I check it for sure? Which programmes changed version?
Thanks,
Chris
Can check your extrom version in system info in setting menu.
I haven't tried "restore after upgrade" option from SPB yet, because I have litltle knowledge about what is/isn't restored.
A nice tool I came across is ssnap.exe :
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/ssnap.shtml
it takes a snapshot of the registry, all file dates/checksums, and romsections checksums and stores it in a file.
Together with examdiff http://www.prestosoft.com/ps.asp?page=edp_examdiff it is easy to see what has changed on your PPC.

SPB Backup and Flashing New Roms

Hey all
Like everyone else here i love flashing the new cooked roms. LVSW's work a treat.
However it pains me to have to reinstall all my programs.
If i update to say the new LVSW rom can i use SPB backup to backup my current info and then just restore the backup on the new roms. Is there any particular things that should or should be backuped up.
It sounds to simple but would this work or would it just end up causing problems with the new rom.
Is there any other program that might do this.
Cheers.
If you are changing ROMs then the answer is no. Backups only help you if you have to hard-reset to reload a clean version of the same ROM.
tried using sprite and moving between LSVW and Black, seems to be fine, i guess YMMV
Add/Remove Programs
Once all of the slick utilities come together for running customizations after hard reset or flash, the only thing I would think pertinent to restore would be things like call history or text/sms messages.
If you can restore your WiFI, GPRS/3G/MMS settings via a cab, and your apps in one simple run of Activesync or WMDC, why would you want to risk overlaying a program or registry setting?
Bits change between builds. This is no different than loading a service pack or upgrading from XP SP2 to Vista. I wouldn't even consider doing a restore of anything except "My Documents" and some data.
Until backup utilities allow for selective restore, they get loaded on my device as do the rest of my software. After a hard reset and through Add Programs. I then delete my old backups, get the device set up the way I want it, then backup. This way I'm assured that if I have to hard reset once I'm on a particular version, I can restore functionality with a restore.
My .02
Cheers.
I thought it would be a long shot.
Thanks for your help.
Travis
I have been using SPB Backup to restore the entire OS, the contacts database are not interchangeable between WM5 & WM6, but I can swap between WM5/WM6 by just restoring a full backup of either. SPB works ok with WM6, with exception to a couple temp files in the system area cannot be locked to be backed up, and the scheduled backup will not fire.
?Glitch
with wm5, i can full restore ~4-5 minutes.
with wm6 it will take ~30 > mins.

Unable to create new Contact with WM6

I upgraded to WM6 last week and everything is working well EXCEPT that I cant create a new Contact to my SIM or memory.
Anybody facing this issue? Any recommendation??
Thanks.
emjay
ROM Version : 3.00.707.17
Radio version : 1.46.00.11
Are you saying that you don't have the "soft" left button labeled New or it doesn't allow you to save new contacts?
Hi there PGMMA,
I can click the 'New' button but when I click the 'Save' button, the contact was not saved.
I have also tried from Phone. When I click Menu-Save to Contacts, I click <New Contact>, fill the name and save, but the contact is not saved.
No such problem before the upgrade.
Thanks
Did you copy file PIM form you old rom to new rom?
Hi xtraart,
Yes, the PIM was backed up using SPB Backup in WM5 and restored to WM6. Hmmm, that may be one of the reason...
Thanks.
Same problem experienced with the restoration of a Spb WM5 backup with the upgrade option after upgrading to WM6.
Solved the problem by saving the contacts to PC first by syncing with a PC, hard resetting PPC, then save the fresh and clean pim.vol file under My Device to somewhere, restore the Spb backup, replace the restored pim.vol with the clean pim.vol, and re-sync with the PC to get all contacts back. Then it works normally.
I managed to solve the problem thanks to solitary.
I did a PIM Backup using PIMBackup, Hard Reset, Reinstall without PIM and reinstall PIM using PIMBackup.
Thanks all...

Restore after rom upgrade

Hi all, Did anyone try to restore the diamond with Spb backup 2.0 with the "rom upgrade" function? I've update my diamond from hTC_Asia_HK_WWE_1.34.831.1_52.24.25.08_0.93.25_Ship to hTC_Asia_WWE_1.37.707.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26a.25.09_1.00.25.03_Ship
But after I restore with spb, it's success but when I check the rom version in setting, everythings is upgrade but only the rom version is still 1.34.831.1, but the cht is change to wwe.
Did I just ignore it (coz I'm sure I'm successful upgrade b4 I restore the backup file)? Or my backup file restore everything??
Pls help I'm really no ideas..... Thank you so much!
any ideas?

You should not restore all the system data from your backup files as it will "overwrite" the system files in your upgraded rom and that is what it is happening and shows in your device info. You should only restore your PIM data, i.e. contacts, emails, messages, appts after an upgrade. You are lucky that the device is not corrupted and functioning OK.
To resolve this, do a hard reset to get back to your upgraded rom 1.37.7.0.1 (yes, it is still lying there in your device) and this time do a PIM restore only and everything will be fine! Cheers
Thanks and I know that..... just want to be lazy to to one step to restore all information and program, although I've choose the "rom upgrade" to restore, but still cannot make it. Only retore all the pim information and have to install all back about the program....
Anyway, thanks a lot!
so = it is not possible to restore all programs after rom upgrade at all??
I think so...... but did anyone try another backup program? like resco backup and also sprite backup? I remember those software have the rom upgrade things to choose, anyone tried?
mmm on Spb site there is
Control your data restoration!
* Can be restored after ROM upgrade (ROM upgrade mode)
* Can be restored on another device (device upgrade mode)
* Self-extracting executable backup files
* Selectable items to restore
* Separate text message (SMS) restoring
* The backup file can be explored with the desktop unpack tool

it could be very interesting restoring apps after upgrades...
Well, I've tried SPB Backup 2.0 ROM upgrade mode a few times (approx 4 times). I had no issues with that and I did not loose any information. Although I haven't checked version information like you. I've always forced ROM upgrade mode in options.
I can say that for quick testing new ROMs this method is a big help. But based on the advices of the experts you should build up your new environment from scratch if you decided which ROM to live along with. Cheers.
yes~ did run normally if restore with rom upgrade mode! but seems it's restore all back from the old file coz the rom details didn't change..... after hard reset then show back the new rom version. I guess it just restore all back from old rom I guess....
i've settled on using spb backup 2 for the PIM info (also restores photo contacts to TF3D), and Sashimi for programs/preferences... works pretty well and fast
what is "sashimi"?
SASHIMI is an app that can do automated installs of cab files, .reg files, and a whole bunch of other stuff to get your device back how you want it after a flash.
you can find the thread here
SASHIMI 6.5beta is out and I am interested in feedback from Diamond users.
I believe that the Auto Install to Storage Card will now work with Internal Storage.
I need Diamond users to test and confirm.
Post in the SASHIMI thread with any issues:

Advice required for a complete device backup

Hello guys,
Me & my girlfriend both using (O2 Ignito) Diamond, and somehow she is messing-up the device every month and I have to hard-reset her device and spend a whole 3 continous hours on installing and configuring her Diamond.
Can someone PLEASE Tell me / Guide me how can I make a "COMPLETE backup (including StorageCard software installaions and Registry)" of her device after installing everyyyyyything, and then every month just run the automated restore process.
1. Keep it in mind that during the configuration & installation I am also editing few bits in the registry for example changing the AC_S2U2 setting etc., I want all of the registry to backed-up as well.
2. I am also installing some big softwares on the StorageCard e.g. SPB Online which is 12mb, so I have to include that in the backup as well.
3. Her Diamond's ROM is the Original O2 Stock Rom (1.93)
I would highly appreciate someone's expert advice.

I would suggest to buy Resco Backup. This peace of software can make a full backup, and if restored to the same ROM as the backup was made, will preserve all settings. Just keep in mind that with a restore you have to check the option Full Restore.
Thanks henk2484,
I will give it a try for this month's restore.

I use SPB Back up 2.0 with no problems.
I create one backup called a clean install after a hard reset with all programs loaded and settings adjusted, and then a back up every month to make sure I save emails and texts etc.

SPB Backup can also be configured to make automatic backups of everything (PIM Data, Emails, My Documents, System Data, Storage Card) or whatever part(s) you choose. You can enable it to run at specified day(s) and time.
What's nice is, it can restore even to a different ROM and/or on a different device, and it creates the backups as .exe file, so you don't have to reinstall the program just to restore. It will do everything.
What works for me: I make manual "Full" backups whenever I install new software. (This takes about 3-4 minutes.) Other than that, every night at 3 o'clock, it automatically makes a backup of my documents, e-mails, and sms. If something bad happens, I hard-reset, restore that big full backup, and restore the latest small "document" backup, everything works out.
Definitely recommended!
Thankyou soo much guys, thats a huge amount of advices, I will definitely try some of these and see which one better.
Regards
Sid
