Unlocking XDA2s on o2. whats the problem - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

After reading all the doom and gloom on this forum about trying to get an XDS11s unlocked from o2 I thought sod it I'll ring em at o2 and ask politely if its possible. A very nice lady answered my call and I explained that I needed to get unlocked because I travel abroad a lot and needed to put a french or spanish sim in to save call charges. Certainly sir the lady said. It will take anything upto two weeks to get it done maybe, somebody will ring you in 24 hours to say wether it can be done. Lo and behold before the 24 hours was up she had called me back with an unlock code and it was done, all for no charge. So why all the hassle and doom and gloom amongst a lot of owners. why should anybody need to pay 20 quid to a third party to unlock these phones or was I just lucky.
Now I just have to weigh up which phone company after Hutchinson 3 ( which I have on another phone) can offer the cheapest call deal to put my new XDA 11s on. Anybody any thoughts ?

O2 xda location
Well not all xdaIIs will come from O2, some will be lock on a different provider and not all provider will be unlocking their phones once requested.

We get our XDA2s from O2 when they arive i call the retail help desk and within 2 hrs i get a unlocking code for them all.
I have never had any problems get a xda2s unlocked at all

Unlocking MDA III

I Ordered MDAIII from T-Mobile , I didnt get yet but can some one help me with unlocking this phone . Is it posible to unlock this phone to use other GSM Networks. Will unlocking of extended ROM do the trick which I found in some other topic in this forum .
10x in advanced
Should come unlocked but it will be in German.
I got the MDAIII on T-Mobile in the UK and had to pay £15 for them to give me an unlock code.
AAARGGHHHH! - Unlocking T-Mobile (UK) MDA III Sim
Bought this device earlier this month. Can anyone help provide the unlocking sequence cause T-Mobile certainly can't! They say they can provide the unlocking code (eventually) but not the sequence, and to get it I have to contact the device manufacturer! I`m travelling to the USA in 1 weeks time and want to use a T-Mobile USA SIM card whilst there. :x
What do you mean by sequence.
T-Mobile gave me an unlock code - I put my O2 SIM card into the MDAIII and it asked for the unlock code - I entered it. It is now unlocked and works with my O2 SIM
Hmmm, never having unlocked a SIM card before I am going by T-Mobile's advice that there is a specific sequence of key stroke entries that need to be followed before I get to the screen that asks for the code. From what you say it might be no more difficult than taking out the UK SIM card, replacing it with the USA SIM card, a screen appears asking for the unlock code which I enter, and hey presto - job done!
Have I read this right? Is this all you do?
Yes, you are right. It is as simple as that.
MDAIII unlock code availability
Who or where at T-Mobile UK can a SIM unlock code be purchased for 15 pounds? I just got my MDAIII from the Oxford Street retail store but need to use it in areas overseas without T-Mobile service.
Thanks...
I telephoned CS and they gave me the unlock code
italian Rom for xda III
Has anyone an italian rom for XDA III?
Thank you

O2 XDA2s lock
I got my xda2s a week ago and when i called O2 they told me that there is no way i can unlock my phone before the 12month contract ends!
That is really annoying, but they told me its part of my contract agreement!(which i haven't seen mentioned anywhere...)
I need to use it in another network over the christmas, so if there is any other way i can get this unlock code you are talking about, or any software that takes away the lock PLEASE share it.
I really appreciate it.
George
It may be worth ring O2 again. It seems to me that it's the luck of the draw whether you get someone in customer services who
a. gives you the unlock code immediately
b. charges you for an unlock code and unlocks it immediately
c. tells you it can't be done until the end of the first 12 months of your contract.
T Mobile Unlocking
I recieved my MDA III Yesterday
I phoned T mobile straight away on 150 (from the handset) they were very helpful and told me they are happy to unlock it
but I had to have the contract for 1 month
only 30 days to go

georkal woudl you please tell me exactly-
Which customer service number you have called?
How can you tell them to unlock the phone? (I hv Voda Sim? I go overseas?)
Thanks a lot indeed
I'm glad you got it sorted georkal.
It's always been like this with O2, I wonder what there 'official' policy is supposed to be? Everyone who calls them seems to get a different answer.
o2 - no help at all!
Hi there,
I have tried O2 a number of times, and each time I come across the same problem - if you aren't an 02 customer, then no unblock for you.
Does anyone have any advice on how to get this thing unblocked?
Tony
Phone your own provider. I'm on T-Mobile and had to pay £15 to get it unlocked.
I spoke to O2 Cust Service 202 many times......
(1)bring it to shop they will unlock for ya
(2)impossible
(3)not until 12 months later
Keep calling - 02 will give the unlock eventually.
I just told them that I was travelling to the US and wanted to connect to a different network while I was there. My unlock code is in the post right now - can't wait!

no not all the time if you get some one that will help you then they will make a record for the call.
I called 100 from the phone.
I had the same answers as well (21days/shop/not after12 months)
I called again and said I was going abroad and needed to use a local SIM card, he put me on hold for 5 minutes and then said it would be unlocked in 24 hours. Price 15£.
I'm not sure what will happen in 24 hours as, from what I am reading here, it is a lock on the phone not the network, Right? I should have asked him to give me the code over the phone?
I'll call him again tomorrow to see what's up.
02 XDA2s
was you given a unlock code for your unique device ?
or was it just working when they said it sjould be unlocked now
the reason i ask is 99% of customer service no nothing
Thanks

Yes you need to call them back and you will get your code
as for the £15 i did not get charged that at all
but its a small price to pay for a simm free phone that is still under warrenty

Same problem here, waited for 24 hours but nothing comes out, couldn't reach back the one who i've spoken to, even I've got her name, extention no., place of call center...really don't know hows the O2 CS working...Everyone gives me different answer.
i know its a big place but if you gave them your phone number it should be logged on the system.
Next time you call ask for a call ref
then they have to log the cal properly
i some times think that O2 CS dontdo there job as good as they sould do
Hope this helps

I called them again. Indeed they screwed up, They now told me that my request was logged but that it would take 21 days for them to retreive the unlock code out of the system.
The 24 hours timescale they gave me was to make sure that international calls were not barred on my SIM card.
I'm leaving for australia tonight unfortunately.
XDAIIs
pjcltd is there anyway i can quote your details to 02 , i must have been told 10 diffrent story`s so far i would luv to say just look at this persons account you dummies. if you need contact detail will be happy to supply

Vodafone on XDA 2 Cannot make calls but says unlocked

Hi XDA developers,
Tnaks for all your help ! where would I be without you!.
I have got an XDA2 from ebay, when I got it I was told that it was unlocked, as my company uses vodafone I wanted to run the phone on that. I put the SIM in and vodafone comes up on the display, text messages can be sent and your unlock software says the phone is unlocked.
BUT, I cannot make calls, when I dial the number it simply beeps three times and then ends the call, when I try and ring the number it also will not connect ... please please help, ive contacted the seller and he says that it worked fine on O2, I havent tried a O2 Sim but is the phone faulty or is it a problem someone else has encountered with these devices !
Your urgent help would be gratefully apreciated. Thanks James
This is probably a blocked phone, it is either stolen or been subject to an insurance claim whereby the company has written it off and blocked the imei to prevent further use of the phone. It will work abroad as the imei will not be blocked in other countries. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news my friend.
Thankyou
Thanks for the response, I think you are correct.. What I think has happened is the person I got it off had a new XDA2i and I believe that this had been got from his insurance company.
Can you confirm that XDA's work with vodafone ! I know they do, and I will have to sell this to someone from ebay.com so they can use it in there country.
thanks and all the best
James
I'd see if I could borrow someones O2 sim before thinking getting rid. You might find it just doesn't like your Voda sim.
I don't think it has an imei bar as it wouldn't pick up a network and you certainly couldn't use sms on it.
JD
Imei bar does not prevent signal reception on some networks, it just doesnt allow access to the network. And yes it would be a good idea to try another sim, however it does display symptoms of a blocked phone.
I have an XDA II. I bought unlocked from Ebay some months ago. Originally I was using a T-mobile sim, which worked really fine, with good strong signal all the time. But when the contract ran out I decided to go with Vodafone. It was a wrong decision. The signal with the XDA II is crap, even though the same sim get about a 70% signal in my other phone, a Nokia 6310i. I get the same 3 beeps and no call.
If I goto to other places the signal improves but it's never 100%. I can make and take calls and SMS messages, but cannot set it up for MMS messages. Vodafone say they cant help me because they dont have any XDA phones and dont know the setting to input.
My conclusion is that Vodafone and XDA's dont work well together. I can only assume that the arial in the XDA II is more in tune with other networks like T-mobile.
UNLOCK MY XDA2
Well i got a link from here to Unlock my XDA2 from 02 to orange and it has worked ok thank you so much for the person for downloading the link all the best antony
The person posting the question has no problem with signal, it registers fine, he gets 3 beeps when he dials, then it hangs up, I would like to know the outcome because I am 90% sure it is blocked, however I would be delighted if proved wrong as the guy will then be able to use his phone.
Bad news
Hi, Thanks for your concern, and yes I did try and unlcok the XDA from your site, and aI also did a ROM up-date.
I have now tried the XDA with an O2 Sim and like we thought its totaly dead, not even a signal on this network...
Luckily, I have had a lot of interest from outside the UK, and hopefully will make a small amount of profit from selling the item on.... but unfortunatly the guy who sold it me wont respond to my e-mails!... I could contact his insurance company and advise them as to what he has done... but to be honest is it worth all the problems that comes with it!, as as usual I the victim will probably come off worse!.. so can anyone else tell me there views of the vodafone network and if I should try again with an XDA 2 that works in the UK!, let this be a warning to everyone to chheck the IMEI with O2 before they buy a second hand XDA!... thanks once again!
Vodafone is fine with xda 2, for value on payg you cant beat tesco, its 20p across networks but you can choose 3 numbers and you get to call those at 10p per minute and half price sms. O2 payg gives you 300 sms free for a tenner topup and free wap access over gprs. So according to your usage just take your pick. Sorry to hear the phone was blocked, I had it 3 seperate times with xda 1 phones, most of the time the person who made the insurance claim isnt aware of the fact the the imei is barred after being written off. The insurance companies could address this by demanding the damaged phone before paying up.
Thanks
Thanks for your help, ive now got rid of the dodgy XDA to france (hope to god it works there), ive got another of ebay for £160 and double checked its not IMEI blocked... and paid by paypal so I dont get stung again.
I use vodafone as its my corporate SIM, e.g they pay for all usage and private calls are really cheap... but I cant use GPRS ! YET!..
THanks all anyway ! alls well that ends well as they say
Nice one, and yes it will work in France.

Can anyone unlock the MDA Pro?

Pls help, need to unlock my MDA Pro.
nobody seems to have come up with a solution yet, im awaiting the same too
For the meantime, as I cannot afford to wait since I need a phone, you can call Tmobile customer services and ask them for an MDA Pro Unlock code, which they will provide for £15, you just need to tell them your IMEI.
Lucky you!!
Just to help you understand how lucky you are:i own a sequel of qtek universal called QTEK v1640 by Vodaphone's partner network in France, SFR.
The phone is simlocked and if you want it unlocked you have either to wait until you possess the pda for 6 months and get teh code delivered to you free of charge, or shell out 114 euros and get the phone theoretically unlocked at once with an imei unlockung code.
That's what is said to happen, except when SFR tells you that the phone you are willing to unlock is not in their suppliers list, that their supplier asks you three times in arow for the imei to check it against his list; and still doesn't find your phones imei; Except also when witha phone branded to their networks name, sfr tells you that the phone wasn't supplied in apcking displaying all sfr trademarks, with a graphic interface chosen and locked by them, with stickers in the batterycompartment showing sfr and finally the sfr product id for this phone.
Now you see how badly i need a unlock tool for my Qtek9000 sequel .
Please focus on this tools as i need badly to unlock this phone at once.
Just to show you how lucky you are;
Arnaud
Get Creative
I think you should all be aware that very few operators actually currently possess IMEI unlock codes for the HTC Universal in their databases and will in most cases have to ask the factory in Taiwan for the code. All I can say is get creative....use the customer service number of an operator in another country and see if you can get your phone unlocked....I had mine unlocked for free within 24 hours.
yo yo still waiting to unlock my mda pro
because i want to use my vodafone
and in the meanwile i just wait
cause there must be someone to make a upgrade
haahah nice tune maybe 8)

Hi fslunatic,
can you tell us which operator and country we should try and especially what to tell the customer service. I guess somebody with Orange subscription will have problems to contact i.e O2. :?:
Thanks for your feedback.
yes I unlocked mine
Called T-mobile. Assistant did not know what I was aking. Asked a supervisor and then went thtough process from her training manual.
COst GBP 15 quid. and unlock code was recieved through the post.
No hassle
Hi MCT,
If you have an Orange phone then call Orange...if it's Vodafone than Vodafone. Some work cross-country some don't. Just tried to help someone here unlock with Vodafone but no joy. I have had succes with T-Mobile....cross-border. Sometimes it also depends on how helpful the person on the other end is. The best punchline to give them is to make sure they understand that they have nothing to lose by giving you the unlock code....that without the code you cannot even select their network to make sure they get revenue from your call.
Good luck!

Still no one can unlock the MDA Pro?

Can anyone do it?
T-Mob CS will give you the unlock code for a payment - I think I read £14/local equiv somewhere.
Nigel
That's not true unfortunately. They just sent me an MDA pro that was not campatible with the Sim card that they sent me. They could not provide the Sim Unlock code, apparently their software would not recognise the IMEI. When I traced the IMEI, it showed as an O2 Exec, not an MDA Pro.
As yet they are unable to give me the code, and the phone is still unusable with that SIM card, meaning I have no access to my contacts.
Given the amount I had to pay for the phone, that I have spent several hours waiting on hold for their customer services to give me no response whatsoever, being called back once out of 3 requests (and even then I don't think it was the person I asked for who called me back), I really find this lack of service unacceptable.
They were originally informed on the 12th of December 2005 that there would be issues, and I am still awaiting a suitable resolution.
At this point in time I am considering canceling/not renewing my contracts with this company and advising many other people that I know to do the same.
I have been with the company for 7 years now (1999) and this type of messing around is not right, there used to be a time when the company would reward loyalty, but now it seems that you are penalised for staying with them.
well thas interresting, im having the same problem here too, but tell me brother, how can u trace an IMEI number, i would like to know where the hack is my MDA pro comming from
thankssss
