Hello,
We are developers of a Wireless Sales Automation Software for Windows Mobile. We recently had a situation of one of our clients’ employee using the equipment to access porn sites with the browser. We were wondering if there is a way to safely delete IE from the Windows Mobile and still allow internet access with our application.
Thanks
Guillermo
I don't think its possible because afaik windows mobile integrate ie in the ROM. and even if u did manage to delete it, users can still access it through opera or install some third party internet browsers... so best is block those porn sites thru ur internet gateway. good luck.

thanks....
The good thing is the employees using the equipment aren't very computer savvy. They are sales persons, so maybe I could try deleting the shortcuts to the IE executable.
Thanks
another thing... the users connect directly to the internet via the cellular company, so they do not pass-thru any of our gateways.
maybe there is some netnanny kinda software for pocketpc i would look into it if i were you
also who in their right mind would bother with pr0n on the ultra slow gprs network?
i mean all the popups and such from those sites would have the xda needing a softreset in no time
if they are really computer morons then maybe just removing the IE shortcut from start bar and programs would be enough ?
or you may run your software in a kiosk mode. This would prevent user from running anything else. Search for "spb kiosk" in google.
I have looked all over the internet, both on this site and through google, I even shot over to howardforums for a few. I know I saw the solution somewhere, but all my searches are filled with bbc connection probs, not internet connection probs. Heres whats going on... I have the TNT2 rom, I changed the aku version in my registry to .3.7.1 and installed Blackberry Connect 4.0.0.90. Everything there is working fine. The problem is that Internet Explorer will not work. I knew this was a possibility cause I read it on this forum somewhere. I installed Opera Mini browser and then my PC crashed and I lost my bookmark that showed how to make it connect through blackberry connect. Does anyone have the link to the page that shows how to get it to share the existing BBC connection instead of it trying to create its own? Or know how to do it? I went to Start>Settings>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks & changed both dropdowns to My Blackberry, then went to the MidLet manager and set the network on Opera Mini to My Blackberry, and it gives me this error...
Error
Failed to connect to the Internet.

java.io.IOException: null
Someone please Help!!!
Thanks.
You can only connect to the special Internet browser that is in the Blackberry folder under programs using BBconnect,, so when you click on to that Icon, you will get the IE explorer.. When your IE explorer comes up,, just go and locate your favorites, and voila.. It is a reconfigured IE explorer (the BBconnect installation does that to your existing Ie explorer). Total Manipulation,, browsing really is the pits using that Internet explorer. So, I advise using Opera (you can actually install on your SD card,), or Opera MIni(I put mine on my main memory). I really do love the Opera Mini (saves ykou lots of money on Data and is really neat, especially the new version).. Set up in connections a normal data connection with your carriers setup, and when you are either going to Opera or Opera MIni you should automatically be turned on to that new data connection GPRS (different than your BBconnect data connection).. Make sure for example, when in Opera Mini, for network settings, you choose the new gprs connection that you just set up, so it will connect properly when you go and connect. Unfortunately, the BBconnect really screws things up for internet connections, and it really is a pain in the butt,,because I have to go to BBsettings sometimes, to suspend the bbconnection, so as I can get either Gprs or Wifi connection, because BBconnection is always trying to connect otherwise. Supposedly, the Internet browser in that BBfolder is supposed to be compressed data, but I haven't seen much compression going on! and bringing up data is slow as molasses.. At least this is all my experience.. If anyone else would like to add to what I said or shed some more light on the subject,, please by my guest. Let me know , if you need any more help
my issue has been now that BBC is installed, I cannot use any other data connection, and no program will use the BBC connection. Also, when you mention that you're using opera, do you mean the full version you'd normally put on a pc? If so, does it have the drag to move feature that mini beta does? Thank you.
I think I figured out part of it. Theres a registry tweak to get IE working again, the problem is that it creates a new connection instead of using the BBC connection. Does anyone know how to get everything (especially opera mini) to run off the blackberry connection? I think it doesn't work right cause of the proxy.
hello guys, thanks for all the help with making my dash a lot better. one question i have. I dont know what is wrong with IE. it tells me to configure my connections. but i am using wifi and i used opera min and it goes to the web sites. i cannot use internet explorer.
Go to tools and opinions and then make sure connections is the internet.
Hi,
i can't connect to any web site using the internet browser or any of the alternative i've tryed (dolphin, skyfire, opera...)
It works fine in wifi but as soon as i switch to data, i can't surf. All apps works fine, ebay, facebook, it only happens when trying to access a web page.
I'm using leedroid but i don't think it's related. I've tryed a full wipe and it's working. So my guess is some settings are messed up.
Is there a way to clear all web browsers data instead of full wipe ?
Thanks.
Nevermind, I've just reset dolphin settings to default and it works.
Hi, i have the same problem and i found this thread but i dont want to do a full reset of the phone.
I have the original ROM and i had been using the internet browser and apps without problem, also with WiFi, Internet passthrough and with 3G.
But 3 days ago after been navigating with Internet passthrough from my PC, then i couldnt use anymore the Internet Browser with 3G. The rare thing is that i can use all the other apps using internet 3G, like Tapatalk, Facebook, Weather...
I tryed different thins lika a "task killer" app, "restart" the phone, check the "Settings" in the Browser for any proxy configuration, then i "reset to default" the Browser configuration... but nothing works.
I have to add that is i use WiFi or Internet Passthrough conection, the Internet Browser works great, but only doesnt with 3G conection.
I would appreciate any advice, thanks in advance.
Well, problem solved. It seems to be that there is something in the configuration of my APN that allows to works without problems the apps, but not the internet browsers (default browser and dolphin). After some changes (i really dont know wich was the change that solved the problem), the browsers start to work fine.
I have an Amazon Fire TV Stick. I use xfinity wifi hotspot which requires that I sign in on a browser that normally on a Windows or Android device, the browser will automatically open up and take me to a login page.
I sideloaded Firefox to my AFTV Stick but that doesn't seem to load up the page even if I try to connect to the wifi network.
Is there some kind of workaround for this? Thanks!
I would like to know this also as I plan on taking the stick with me when I travel and would be connecting to Hotel wifi
I can't speak to the OP's question but as to hotel access you can usually call the hotels Internet help line with your MAC address from your Fire TV and they can manually log you into the network.
Would also love to know if this is possible. I on a little vacation and took my fire tv with me, ready to watch away, but can't connect to the WiFi, since there is a browser login ...
spoof the firetv's mac on your laptop and go through the portal

Could you enlighten me on how to do that or direct me to somewhere? Thanks!
well i am guessing something like this
http://www.howtogeek.com/192173/how-and-why-to-change-your-mac-address-on-windows-linux-and-mac/
will have to try that and see
I often take my AFTV when on the road and faced this very problem. I've overcome this by connecting to the hotspot (in my case the hotel's wifi network). The AFTV should say something like "Connected with a problem" or something to that effect. Then I back out and go to Applications, and launch a browser, in my case Chrome, and the hotspot router should direct your browser to the login page, where you can enter the needed credentials.
However, of course you would need to have a browser installed. Works most of the time though some hotels have routers that for some reason won't auto-direct you to the login page until you manually type in a website address to go to.

Same - just did this in fact. Had to use my phone as a hotspot to install a browser (lighting) first.
I don't think it would be possible on the firestick unless amazon added some browsers to their store.

Why? You could side load a browser on the stick just the same I assume.
I side loaded Dolphin browser onto my AFS. Seems to work well.
Update : when trying to enter address or url, the search dialog box comes up. It starts to load the Web page but immediately closes the browser. So for me, Dolphin doesn't seem to be working.
What browsers are you all using successfully to browse Web pages?

To the original poster, I know exactly what you're talking about. What I had to do was plug in a mouse so I could click.
Reloaded the page a lot of times and it took forever, but you only have to enter this once.
fix!

You can use the built-in web browser in the ES File explorer to go to the login page. The ES file explorer is free and available on the amazon app store.
I have Chrome side loaded in my AFS. Works well. Able to get to YouTube website and play videos easily.
