Registry key s needed for hardware buttons - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

The 'home' and 'messaging' hardware buttons on my XDA 11s stopped working recently and after using PHM Regedit I found that the registry keys for buttons 3 and 4 were missing. I recreated the basic key structure by copying the keys from other buttons that hadn't been damaged and the keys now work again. Trouble is that the icons in the 'buttons' setting within the 'settings' menu have adopted the default icons from the keys I copied.
Could someone post or tell me where I can find the complete key listing for a standard XDA11s so that I can recreate the keys properly. I appreciate I could hard-reset the machine however I would the have to spend hours reconfiguring it after reloading my backups.
Thanks,
Gavin Bailey

Took the section of my registry defining buttons and uploaded here. These are the defaults from the 1.40 i-mate rom.
Hope it's helpful.

Xda IIs Freezes When New Button Pressed?

This is really puzzling me now.
My Xda IIs has taken to freezing when you press the new button on the taskbar at the bottom?
I noticed from looking at the registry on the device there is a referance to a msnewmnu.dll, however I can't seem to find this file on the device?
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{CC76B8E6-99CD-11d2-8C2F-00C04F72E246}\InprocServer32, , msnewmnu.dll
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance, its really starting to annoy me now!
Hollinshead.
I had this same problem and found it was a corrupted entry in the New Menu Shell entries in the registry. If you have PHM RegEdit or similar look here :
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Extensions/NewMenu
Under this key you will find a number of sub keys which have GUID numbers. These relate to GUIDs in the registry which start an application and launch the correct "New" routine within them. Have a look under each of these GUIDs and see if one relates to software which you have recently removed (Mine was when I removed Pocket Informant for example) and delete the entire GUID sub key under the NewMenu Sub Key.
Hope this helps....
I found an entry that had no value for it, deleted it and it works mint!
Thanks alot m8 your a star!

keyboard mapping of 2 keys with dashes "-"

I have a vodafone universal, and using Start-settings-buttons, it was possible to assign functions to the 2 keys on the top line of the keyboard with dashes "-" on them.
I have installed jwrights crossbow ROM and, I would like to assign these buttons.
I have searched and failed to find out about these 2 buttons (ihave found the backlight mod thread, but cant figure out about these 2)
thanks

Using any registry editor (eg. resco), go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys. The key 112 is the left "-" key, and the key 113 is the right "-" key. Open and edit to name and point them to what program you want to assign as follows:
- default: in the string box you type the name of the program you want to assign the key
- Open: in the string box you type the link to the .exe or the .lnk file of the program
i thought 112 and 113 are buttons on th etoday screen, not the hard buttons on the keyboard. the ones next to the red and green phone icons. Are these OC07 and OC08, but i am not sure
Have assigned 113 without problems but 112 (left "-") somehow became assigned to PHONE application. So now if I press green button - phone appears, if I press left "-" again phone appears. Although in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys it shows different program to be opened. Any ideas please?
p.s. after few soft-resets started working in the way it's been assigned in the registry.
Those buttons with dashes are called soft keys. So just search for soft keys and you will find an app that will enable you to assign different applications to the soft keys. Search for HACKS, you will probably find it in the hack thread.
I suggest use of PQz as a great alternative.

Yes you can. First step is to find the soft key CAB or files I mentioned. After installation, go to the windows folder and locate the comm manager icon and create a copy or shortcut of it at the Windows>Start Menu>Programs folder or to any folder you want.
Of course, you don't have to assign this to any soft keys, another way for the Comm Manager to show up is by pressing the Fn key and the Right arrow key simultaneously.
cheers geezer!! top man! so long little green dot, it was the only thing cluttering up my today screen! i am now fully happy with my exec!! just gotta sort out my gprs and skype settings! and then i think it'll do everything i want it to do!
ok, well, iv put the soft key applet onto my phone, then moved it into the windows directory and then soft reseted, but im a bit stuck now? how do i reasign my 2 soft keys?? please help!

Look into Start>Settings>System Tab>Here you will see the app for soft key assignment.
But before that, you need to go to Windows folder and copy the Comm Manager app and create a shortcut icon on Windows>Start Menu>Programs.

A simple Question

Hi, I Got my T-Mo TP2 the other day (used to have a x7501) and there is one thing that's driving me CRAZY. When TF3D is enabled how do you change the soft keys to something else and rename them? I tried using SK-tools but that didn't work either. When I go to "setting, personal, Menus, buttons" the only one listed is the "Send" button in the list. Is there a reg hack to fix this?
Also PBar will not work with TF3d?? Thanks...Tj
Install Advanced Config. Under Menu>More Settings>Key Mapping, you can change the softkeys from here
To get it, search!!
Hmm Ok I did that and it still opens the Camera on left soft key and People on the right one...I also tried this with SK Tools. For some reason after TF3D starts it goes to the default soft keys, Maybe it has something to do with it being a T-mo phone?...Tj
did you try a soft reset? It worked for me, may becuase I've got the WWE...

To Modify left/right home softkeys in Manilla (Touch Flow 3D) you can edit the Registry as follows.
DEFAULT: All Fields Blank.
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila
The Left key keys are as follows (I've setup to Opera):
HomeLSKText = Web
HomeLSKPath = \windows\Opera Browser.lnk
(I've left my right key default for the moment - i.e. blank which will default to camera.)
The right key registry keys are as follows:
HomeRSKText
HomeRSKPath
After you have finished do a Soft Reset - (no need for 8,000 SR )
Enjoy!
Have any Idea how to add HTC's Program List as a softkey? I don't like the launcher but I like the list. I'd rather get rid of the programs tab and just launch the programs list from the home page.

After finally managing to get rid of my horrid vodafone theme, I've noticed that the soft keys have changed from All People/Internet to Phone/Camera.
The camera one is super annoying as I'm always pressing it by accident, using the hack above I have managed to change the right key back to internet, but I'm struggling with the left key.
Can someone tell me what the HomeLSKPath needs to be to bring up 'All People'
TIA

HI,
Newbie here...just got my TP2 last week. If I want to swith the Left soft key to Contacts, what to i write n HOMELSKPATH= . Cant see to get it to work...thanks in advance..
KL
For those looking for Contacts/All People in the link.
Can't test this, as I'm using Finger-Friendly-Friends as my contact manager, but.....
To get the contacts application try the following in the path:
\Windows\Start Menu\Contacts.lnk
If you have "Contacts" in your start menu then this should work.
If you don't have "Contacts" in your start menu then:
Temperorly put it there
Copy the file (\Windows\Start Menu\Contacts.lnk) to your PC
Edit it with notepad (or similar).
Use the path that you see in this file.
You can now remove "Contacts" from your start menu again.
Hope this helps.
I hate the camera softkey being there also. I hit it by mistake all the time. I would like it to be Opera too I think and the all contacts can stay on the right.. I don't know what I am doing but I may try to edit mine. I am new to all this.. I have Total Commander is that how I get to my registry to modify it?
i too need assistance w/ remapping the camera softkey...i dont know why they would have made that a default location for a business phone...
Some problem..

Mapping SecondToday to left softkey?

Has anybody been able to map SecondToday to the left softkey on the home page?
I've tried changing the registry and using Advance Config, but no luck.

try a program called Keyswop it is (free) cab (attched) and you can change softkeys to whatever your heart desires... started slowly (i have a T7381) and would say had a battle with telstra's locked down rom but after the first time and a soft reset changes now quickly
Hi,
You could try AEButton+, an excellent program for mapping and extend hardware key (1 clic, or 2, or 3, or LongPress, or virtual button...), but it's not really free, but quite cheap.
This app works like a charm on my touch pro2.

Hope it help..

I cant get it to work either
aebplus doens't seem to work for a lot of the keys. anybody else have this problem? i've only been able to map keys to the volume up and down buttons.

Changing the softkeys in AT&T Tilt2

I find it redundant, the Phone soft key and the Phone Hard key.
Is there a way to reprogram or map the Phone soft key or the Contacts softkey to run some other programs?
If somebody had used this kind of keymapping program and works for the Tilt2, can you direct me to the link please?

Are you familiar/comfortable with modifying the Registry? Using Total Commander or a dedicated registry editor...?
If so:
Navigate to here:
registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ -- and find these keys:
"HomeLSKPath" -- Click on this one to enter the path to whatever application you'd like the Left Soft Key to run (e.g., \windows\calendar.exe)
"HomeLSKText" -- Click on this one to enter the text/label that appears for the Left Soft Key (e.g., Calendar)
And you can do the same thing with HomeRSK...
This works on my T-Mo USA TP2...I would expect (but don't know) that it should work for your Tilt2.
