Now Microsoft has officially released WM2005
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/5/default.mspx
does anyone know if O2 are going to release an upgrade for the XDA range, more specifically the XDAII in my case?
I have written to O2 but I am still awaiting a reply. A response I got when enquiring about a Bluetooth fix for handsfree, was that there was not going to be any upgrades, but I don't know of that was just a fob off.
If there isn't going to be an upgrade, does anyone know if there will be a stable "official" English unofficial version created by you techies on this forum for us none techies?
Thanks
As much as i know O2, i would say there will never be an release of WM2005 for the XDA II.
For the XDA I there has never been an really official WM2003 release until now, and i think, for the XDA II there isn´t a official WM2003SE VErsion out, or am i wrong?
Sounds hard, but i would say customer support from O2 is more than bull****....

What would you prefer?
- Upgrade to current device, with more than 50% of features missing?
- New device with everything working.
QED: WM2003SE Bluetooth has handsfree profile. It doesn't work on my butchered Xda II - because the hardware can't do it.
QED: Persistent Store on Magneto, surely the best feature, won't work on Xda II because it needs new hardware. Instead, the beta floating around hacked with the RAM and dropped usable RAM to 25MB.
Pile of pants really.
Most effort will go into new devices, and I bet Orange Vodafone and T-Mobile won't offer an upgrade either!!
What about the XDA IIi?
Do you think there will be an upgrade??

I sent an e-mail to O2 data support last Friday inquiring about their update and I got the following response:
Thank you for your email.
The AKU-2 service pack for the XDA Exec that supports PUSH email and a2dp (Stereo Headset) is currently being tested at the moment, unfortunately we are unaware of any release date for this ROM update. When the ROM update is made available it will be downloadable from the o2 website at www.my-xda.com, I would recommend periodically viewing this site for further information.

It makes me believe then that contrary to i-Mate and Orange, O2 is going to release A2DP on their AKU 2 ROM! 8)
Just thought I would pass it on, seeing that the My-XDA.com web site is currently offline!

Shame about the website. The O2 release does NOT!!! have A2DP in it.
But it's interesting people are obsessing over it. It sucks battery and has a really poor range before static hits. It's a really geeky techology.
I have since been violently corrected by some heavies. It sounds like there is further opportunity for development from all parties - HTC and MS .
Sorry for the mistake - earlier versions of le rom had it, and it was OK. But still geeky.
WIZ- PM me.

So have you got the latest o2 Rom then and if so any other improvements?
How long has the my-xda site been down for?

Do you have it?
What are the version numbers?
Does anyone know when O2 is likely, if ever, to release a AKU3 ROM? Heard some good things, and not so good things, but would welcome the upgrade.
Answers on a postcard please
Univerval is EOL so not shure we will see an official AKU3 ROM
EOL???????
What do you guys recommend then????
Nokia N95 looks pretty cool!!!
I have upgraded my exec to AKU 3.2 and it works a treat, I seem to have lost task manager but gained other apps such as usb hdd option, I've had no hick ups yet.
mark,
can you give me rough guide of how you did this?
Thanks
No further AKUs for O2 customers then...?????????

You did not miss an announcment, you just missed the obvious signs. The MDA Pro is dropped from T-Mobile's catalog, the Qtek 9000 is increasingly difficult to come by. The Universal device is around a year old. That's ancient for a PDA. It's successor has not been announced yet, but rumours are already to be heard ...
Manufacturers just rarely announce this kind of thing in order to make sure that old stocks can be sold.

How do you go about connecting a Mass Storage Device to the Univesal on AKu 3.2? Do i need any special cable or something?
Keen to know, before I even upgrade to it.
So where to now..... I like the VGA, I like the keyboard and I can live with the other problems to have the first 2????
So where do we go from here. Don't know about anyone else but I like the format of the XDA EXEC ie keyboard and VGA etc and can put up with the faults...........
Anyone in the know as to what would be considered an upgrade?

There is no way to directly connect a HDD to the Uni. It doesn't support USB hosting.
There is a topic of someone who says they have a Wi-Fi caddy connecting to the device and using it that way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280193
wait a second!
I e-mailed O2 to ask whether they are planning to release any new ROMS and got the following response:
"Thank you for your email.
At the moment we don’t have any information on whether or not a ROM version with the AKU3 will be available for the XDA Exec. We are usually advised of a new ROM for the XDA series 4-6 weeks prior to their release but we haven’t heard anything yet. As the XDA Exec hasn’t reached the end of its life cycle there should be a new ROM versions released.
If you have any further queries please contact us."

Sounds as if the Universal isn't EOL after all. Do you think it's Microsoft holding the process up or HTC?

YEAH!
Sweet, I agree and disagree (yes and no)
Yes (agree) XDA EXEC is a year old ..... but
there is nothing like it on the market still .... No (disagree)

Could the XDA Flame be the replacment that we are all looking for??
"The Xda Flame encapsulates everything the O2 brand stands for - innovation and performance in a sleek, beautiful, desirable package. The Xda Flame breaks technology barriers by being the first dual processor PDA-phone, incorporating the powerful NVIDIA GoForce GPU for sublime screen graphics, movie playback, photo viewing, and gaming performance, on top of a 520MHz Intel processor chip. A large 3.6' VGA touchscreen and a host of multimedia features ensure that customers stay productive and are entertained while on the go."
Hi,
I am sorry if this has been covered in old posts but i am getting no where with o2 and the other UK operators.
I am due an upgrade with o2 now but i want to wait until XDAs have WM6 on them, Does anyone know what the first XDA will be released with WM6? When it will be released? Or will it ever be released? as O2 do not have a clue.
If any of the other network operators are bringing out there versions with WM6 the same questions apply as i will just move phone operators.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
i thought windows mobile 6 wasnt coming out till november? i might be wrong as i havent been on top of wm lately (im a symbian guy myself)
Not sure myself
I know Orange are releasing the SPV E650 in April. However it runs WM6 Standard and not professional (i.e. its a smartphone not a Pocket PC).
Would guess Pocket PC's should follow soon after but there are still quite a few WM5 based devices scheduled for a release.
Would say the best bet would be to hold on but if your iching to upgrade (i know i would be) then I would suggest getting a Hermes based device. I would say that it's one of the best HTC devices currently available and people are cooking WM6 ROMs on it already!!! Its also rumoured to be one of the few devices that will eventually have an official WM6 update.
S.K.
(Anxiously waiting for the WM6 ROM)
Read this...
O2 Asia is about to offer free Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the Xda Atom Life! This free update will be available to all current Atom Life users, and will involve either a download from the O2 Web site or a visit to one of its service centers. The upgrade will change the operating system on the Atom Life from Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition to Windows Mobile 6 (WM6) Professional.
Since its availability from May 12, the Atom Life will become one of the first commercially-available Windows Mobile products to sport the newer OS. Atom Life handhelds sold in stores from June onwards will also be preloaded with WM6. In comparison, Dopod, which will be acquired by HTC, will be upgrading its selected devices to WM6 in July.
O2 Atom Life will still feature its enhancements, the O2 SMS Plus and O2 MediaPlus. They have been tested on the new OS, and will still be available on the Atom Life after the upgrade. O2 added that they are currently testing WM6 on its upcoming Xda Flame (Specifications) and all of their phones which will be launched in 2007 will be opearting with WM6. The only thing left is to hear about an upgrade for the Xda Zinc and Xda Graphite soon.

Im hopeful, but o2 is generally slow at this type of thing so I would not be to impatient. For my uses WM6 doesn't offer much more either. But its always nice to have the latest...
I found this while googling other sites about the flame.
"Wm5 disapointed but i made the sales person call his friend who works at the o2 shop in hong kong and he said that wm6 will be available in a month. They are still testing it and i will have an update as soon as it is released."
I don't know how realiable this is but who knows.

Dear Jim,
Thank you for contacting O2 Asia Technical Support.
You may wish to be advised that O2 has recently released the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for Xda Atom Life users. Aside from that, O2 Asia currently has no plans of providing WM6 for current models including XDA Flame. You may wish to refer time and again in the near future to www.seeo2.com for further information on the devices with Windows Mobile 6.
Please inform me of any other assistance that you may require. I wish you success in your future endeavours.
Sincerely,
Judith Taan

Overall, faster and stable. Better than wm6 838pro. I use spb full keyboard, just as good as a qwert kb. Batteris bad, cannot stand for one day for normal use, also the volumn of speaker is weak that cannot always hear phone rings. hope can improve in near future. I do not need wm6 as no material difference with wm5, I do not use office in pda....
I wouldnt give up just yet fellas, I mean think about how much HTC and Dopod denied they would do WM6 ROM or even a GPS ROM for the trinity, and sure enough eventually both of those were announced etc.
Im just thinking come next month when alot more WM6 Roms roll out, O2 might jump onboard as well, whats the point of having a pretty powerful device, but being too cheap to give consumers a WM6 Rom?

I agree. I'm sure something like this would happen. It's pretty stupid to release such a powerful PDA with an outdated OS...

This is some idiot who is responding from O2.
Today wm6 for zinc has been announced, check out msmobiles / seeo2.com for details.
I think flame is the flagship model of the company and they will surely release wm6 for it.
Reply from O2 Asia Pacific
Dear Flame Users,
I'm using XDA flame and whoever posted that reply tried to discourage Flame users.
Because i got an offical reply from O2 that they are currently testing Flame upgrade and will release soon
i got following message from O2
kindly note that O2 has a policy of testing new software and applications thoroughly to ensure that potential faults and issues are mitigated so that the customer experience and enjoyment of the new device is not affected. As a result, we are conducting rigorous tests on Windows Mobile 6 with the unique O2 applications and other software intended for the Xda Flame. Customers can expect to an announcement on the availability of Windows Mobile 6 upgrades for the Xda Flame in the near future.

I'm using XDA Zinc ... and prior to wm 6.0 launched, I asked O2 about the upcoming wm 6.0 but they answered exactly like the one posted above that they were not providing wm 6.0 for zinc ... but guess what now they have it ...
I guess it is standard answer for someone that asked about availability of wm 6.0 ... i believe wm 6.0 will be available for flame also ... just wait patiently ... after all it is the current flagship of o2 ...
From the information above, some may conlude that O2 would finally release the WM6 rom, just as I do. Actually I think, maybe there're still something imperfect of the WM6 drivers for the indepent graphic card in FLAME, so it is still being tested time and again.
Nowadays, I noticed in a Chinese online shopping website, that they have the unique FLAME to sold with WM6(simplified Chinese edition)!!!
http://auction1.taobao.com/auction/0/item_detail-0db2-7bbf4068423ebb333ff1cd39fb0804c1.jhtml
I wonder where they got it, is that a signal? Oh, the seller also claim that they have a forum which is the official one of O2(www.iio2.com).
NOT ADs! cauz I'm not quite believe that.

I looked around that website-iio2, and found that it is not an official verison, as it is replanted from D900. Amazing! But I guess there is not a proper driver for the independent graphic card in this version.
Anyone heard anything more about the WM6 upgrades for the S620 that HTC was supposed to put out in the May/June timeframe? There's not much time left in that "frame" - was hoping to hear something by now. I'd prefer to not have to mess with trying to put the TMo ROM on there.
nop there has been no news at all keep checking this page:
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/software/
It's pretty much July. I'm expecting an update to come out yesterday.
Any other source, other than the website where we could have any more information?
Download link for T-Mobile's WM6 is here:
http://t-mobile.com/wmupgrade/
Comes with some fandango, and more t-mobile... (well, you tell me, i don't know how the HTC wm6 compares)
you can use my number:
2 m 0 r 5 a 5 e 2 r 9 y 7 c 9 e 4 o 0 s
Is it locked to T-mobile?
HTC eClub
Anybody joined the HTC eClub?
I think they are gonna distribute the WM6 that way, since I can't register my Dash there I can't confirm. Can someone with a S620 sign up and see if the update is available now?
htc club
Hi i have joined the club, as i have a HTC s620. There have been no updates as of yet. I will be checking the site most days, so as soon as i hear anything i will post here
No updates other than some audio driver. This is really getting annoying.
Does anyone know if the VoIP feature will be included with this HTC release? (I'm talking about internet calling if nobody knows what I'm talking about.)
September!!!!!!
Below is an email I just got from HTC:
The Windows Mobile 6 update will roll out from June. The provisional date for the S620 is believed to be in September. We have no more accurate information than that and as it is a provisional schedule, it is possible that if any last minute problems are encountered in the final testing phase, it may be delayed.
Thank You for your enquiry. Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/csbyphone.html

yeh i know thats why september is in bold in the email above.
Too bad there is no real competition on the market. Otherwise I would switch now. This is pissing the customer in the face.
I really love my S620 it's great hardware but not sure if I can hold out with WM5 too much longer.
S620 upgrade WM6
I called their support line on Tuesday (July 3) and the gentleman on the phone told me to expect the WM6 update around late July. I don't think they know for sure.
If I knew how to clean a rom of all that T-Mobile garbage I'd upgrade to WM6 using the T-Mobile rom.
So, just to amuse myself (and possibly others), I called HTC's hotline again, asking when WM6 comes out for the S620. The gentleman on the phone read me the email that was sent out to the phone support folks about WM6, and it went a little something like this:
"WM6 is a big OS upgrade, and all new HTC devices are using WM6, so basically HTC is tailoring the WM6 upgrades for each of their devices that support the upgrade. The Sprint MDA upgrade for WM6 came out 2 days, however, HTC will be releasing the WM6 upgrade for the S620 at the end of July, but no later than the middle of August."
<sarcasm>
In summary, HTC is aware of our concerns and doesn't contradict themselves.
</sarcasm>
Tell them T-mobile already has released WM6 and since the device is actually made by HTC its absolutely ridiculous that T-mobile can tailor the device quicker than HTC can.
The Cavalier is out this month so I can see alot of people ebaying their S620 and going for the much more powerful S630, probably what HTC are hoping anyway and why they are delaying the update. Furthermore they probably didn't sell as many of the Vox as they would have liked because people realised that the Excalibur/Caviliar form factor is so much nicer.

Yes but the T-Mobile WM6 ROM is crap.
I have it on my Dash. It is full of bugs and memory leaks. I am waiting to HTC to release the S620 WM6 ROM, then I'm going to buy an S620 and ditch my Dash.
Give them time to get it right and not hastily release a buggy ROM.
This is very disappointing. I hope this is not the case with all the said upgrades.
htc is delaying it for 1 reason because they what people to get fed up and by a new phone with wm6 built in. EXAMPLE: htc x7500 which has wm5 and htc x7501 has wm6. now you can already buy the x7501 at CompUSA for $899 just check if you dont believe me. but wm6 upgrade for x7500 won't be out untill september, makes no sense to me
