Is it possible to turn off the notification when you recieve a message in on the top bar ,
that is when you get the message a envelope signs comes in and frm here anyone can read the message which is recieved
any clues ??
Yep! Here you are
START-Setttings-Sound & Notifications-Event:New text message- Untick Display message on screen.
sir i have tried that ,but I still get that envelope sign when the message comes in :?
I think you could not remove completely the envelope icon from Today.
But you can use 3d applications to password-protect your sms.
I'm sure there is a hack to hide the pop up notification which is displayed for about 5 secs when you receive a message
It's a bit embarrasing if you have the phone on the dashboard for satnav and then a private text is summarised as it arrives
All i want is the incoming tone and symbol - not the message sender and text displayed
Hide SMS notification
To hide the pop up notification:-
go to start, then settings, then click on sounds & notifications,
from the events dropdown list pick Messaging: New Test Message,
then just tick or untick display message on screen!
also has options for playing sounds and a flashing notification light.
Hope this helps, 1st time i have replied to anyone on this forum
Thanks Wooley - never noticed it there !!! All done now

In Messages app, go to the "All messages" screen, press <-- (back arrow) button if neccessary. Press "Menu" button, tap "Settings", look for "Received notification", make sure this is checked. Below it is "Play notification sound". make sure this is unchecked.

I have the Desire HD and have the same issue. Your solution quoted above disables notification sounds for all messages, both new and delivery reports.
I came from the HTC Desire, and the functionality described in the first post is what I'm used to (i.e. Delivery Reports on, but no notifications in the status bar and no sounds. To see delivery reports, I just held on the message in question and tapped delivery report from the pop up menu)
Currently, when I send a message, I get a notification, like a new message coming in, and a message in the status bar showing me the status of the delivery. I don't want this. It is very annoying. I need Delivery reports. This is a deal breaker on the Desire HD for me and will stop using it if it's a "feature"!

Just make a recording of pure silence, then set it as a ringtone then select that as the notification sound for delivery status and presto it plays a silent ringtone for you.

Good evening
Yesterday (finally) I upgraded my nexus to Android 7.0, I made a clean installation (factory reset from marshmallow, new wipe from fastboot and flash firmware) Everything works great except for notifications that are unbearable.
If im responding to a message using the quick replay and a new message arrives the keyboard is closed and the written text gets lost.
If I remove the notification with a swipe, it will appears again repeated every 5 minutes.
When there are grouped messages (Ex. Telegram groups or whatsapp) they are not displayed grouped together, but It is shown only the first or the last message arrived. If I remove the notification with a swipe, when a new message arrives repeatedly reappears me the initial message notification.
Code:
Example: Messages in a group: FriendA: TEXT1, FriendB: TEXT2, FriendC: TEXT3
In the notification only appears the FriendA's message as if it were a single message.
If I remove the notification and FriendD writes TEXT4 , the notification of FriendA comes to me again.
How can I fix these annoying issues?
Hi! Did you solve this?
I have exactly the same problems and questions.
Furthermore, I have another question. If I set the Notifications options in "Show silently" for Whatsapp , I dont get any notification (no sound, no led) when a message incomes.
The "show silently" option is supposed to work when the screen is on and you dont want to see the incoming messages to appear at the top; but in my case, the "show silently" is muting all the notifications even when the screen is off.
Help!
I can't find the settings the enable notification headsup. Is it even there? I mean the feature which shows for example a messenger messages on the top of the screen when you receive a new message and you screen is on.
