Is this a Blue Angel? What is the point other than a faster processor? They really missed the boat by not providing UMTS (3g).

and NO VGA display !!!

if it's possible, i hope someout out there wouldn't mind to make a rom....it would be greatly appreciated by filipinos
My guess - its too late. This model is not popular around here
I know this is a old thread. But..
Ive been looking around for a small smartphone that could be used to play my music and be used with my bluetooth headphones. Im using the blue angel at the moment and it works superb (except the ablity to use sdhc cards). But its just too big and im always worried if i crack the screen plus it looks pretty nerdy..
So i saw this phone.. Which is excazly what im after. (Which i might add is the only phone that has bluetooth and supports a sd cards).
But i see no one has made any upgrades for it?
Well ill just put it out there that if someone can make this phone to enable a2dp bluetooth profile and support sdhc sd cards (having windows mobile 5+ would be a bonus). Id have to say that this phone with an extended battery would be one of the best phones on the market today.
Ive just started doing a three year programming course at the moment. So if no one else is willing to program a rom. Then hopefully soon ill learn how to develop me own one

Question about flashing a Kaiser

Word on the street is the Kaiser will appear on September 3, 2007 via AT&T and be known as the 8925. See http://crunchgear.com/2007/08/09/breaking-att-tilt-price-and-launch-date-leaked/
So, question: Have any of our insider cooks gotten their hands on a Kaiser? And, if so, what's the process like for flashing one? As painless as the 8525, or a chore like the 8125?
While we're talkin' about it, what is the technological spec differences between the Kaiser and Hermes? Other than a fancy flip feature, I cannot see a spec which leads me to believe it's any better than the Hermes.
Thanks,
J
why don't you go read up in the kiaser section of Xda! this is the hermes part. the specs blow the 8525 away go do some research.
I did read up on it prior to the post. But, thanks for the words of wisdom.
Having read up on it, my thoughts are: you are easier to impress than I. As a slower CPU and larger RAM doesn't equal something blowing away something else. In light of that, I thought there was perhaps I was missing.

wow u really need to learn how to read more before posting. the cpu on the kaiser is a qualcomm 400mhz dual core cpu as far as i know. our hermes have a 400mhz since core. difference is that the kaiser has 1 core to handle phone functions and another to handle programs making it superior to the hermes. go on modaco and read what paul has to say. when u add hsupa, 7.2mbps hsdpa, 256 rom, 128 ram, tilt screen, improved scroll wheel, slides other way, touchflo, gps, 3mp with a good night mode and good sensor, better keyboard, lights for function and caps above keyboard, and do all this in a thinner package then u know u got a good upgrade to the kaiser. by the way, roms will be just as easy to cook as on hermes. all u need is to get a kaiser to olipro to do cid and simunlock and hardspl and get a cook like me a kaiser and ull have great roms. i seen the roms and have dumped them so i know.
Thanks for the detailed reply. That's exactly what I was looking for!
As for the CPU, the wiki here states that it's a 384MHz, not 400. But, most other things I've seen say 400. I didn't know it was dual core, so appreciate that info!
And, with the specs as you detailed them, I'm now excited and thinking about an upgrade! But, the wiki's details are not so stimulating
Also, I would imagine you're right re: flashing, as the Kaiser is quite similar to the Hermes. I was just having horrible thoughts of flashing my kid's 8125 and hoping that I wouldn't be buying myself a headache if I purchase the Kaiser.
Thanks again!
J
woa!! its dual core... really awesome too bad the resolution stay the same as hermes if only it was better, like 640x480 or maybe more like toshiba portege G900 having a 800x480 resolution screen...
I can say it`s an awesome device !

From what I can recall, the Samsung chips outperform Intel chips by a good margin -- when the 300Mhz Samsung was introduced a few years ago it held it's own with the then industry standard Intel PXA 25x clocked at 400Mhz. A 200 Mhz TI OMAP conserves power better than an intel clocked to the same frequency. In that sense, comparing the clock frequencies isn't all that revealing.
Who knows how the Qualcomm chips perform compare to the Samsungs? For all we know a dual Core Qualcomm could be worse that the 400 Mhz Samsung in the Tytn. It's unlikely, but not unprecedented that WinCE PDA specs stagnate or get worse from one generation to another. When HP took over Compaq a few of the iPaq lines ended up with slower processors.
Personally, I'd wait to see some benchmarks on the Kaiser before I buy.

I've seen some benchmarks and they all SMOKE the Hermes.
http://www.cdmatech.com/download_library/pdf/msm7200_chipset.pdf
thats the spec sheet for the processor. according to it there is a 400mhz application processor and 274mhz microprocessor. also shows hsdpa up to 7.2mbps and hsupa up to 5.76mbps. will be a nice phone with a awesome processor.
but again back to the threat subject - will it be a problem to change the radio rom on the Kaiser ?
I'm not sure if this is still relevant, but a thread at the beginning of June suggested that new handsets with 3G chips from Qualcomm were banned from the USA while a trade dispute was being settled. Has this dispute been settled yet? If not then you guys in the USA may not be seeing your Kaisers for quite some time.

Not anymore. It's now been moved back to September 17th so they can get rid of some of the excess 8525's. I heard this directly from an HTC AT&T rep.

HTC Press Release HTC Touch Cruise / Polaris
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LONDON — November 12 2007 — HTC Corp. (TAIEX: 2498; “HTC”), the world’s leading provider of Microsoft Windows Mobile® smart devices, today launched the HTC Touch Cruise™, the third member of the HTC Touch product family and the first to feature in-built GPS for personal navigation. Building on the popularity of the HTC Touch™ and the HTC Touch Dual™, the HTC Touch Cruise also includes 3G-HSDPA wireless connectivity.
Users on the move will easily be able to interact with the HTC Touch Cruise’s navigation functionality and can take advantage of HTC’s TouchFLO technology, which enhances finger touch scrolling and browsing of Web pages, documents, messages and contact lists, controlled by simply sweeping a finger across the screen. TouchFLO also offers the ability to view photos and photo slideshows using on-screen controls and to zoom and rotate images with only one hand.
Stylish and sleek in design, the HTC Touch Cruise is a further illustration of HTC’s commitment to innovation and to building a suite of touchscreen devices that cater to a variety of customer needs and styles. The HTC Home screen will provide one-touch access to emails, text messages, calendar appointments and contacts, as well as current weather conditions and forecasts for hundreds of cities around the world. Users then simply sweep their finger up the display to launch an animated, three-dimensional interface comprising three screens: Contacts, Media and Applications. The interface can be spun by swiping a finger right or left across the display, providing efficient access to the features consumers use most.
The new Touch Cruise boasts super fast HSDPA/3.5G connectivity plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, making it a highly connected device for consumers on the move. Its 2.8” screen is great for enjoying mobile multimedia and because it runs on Windows Mobile 6, the built-in Windows Media Player is ideal for music and movies.
Florian Seiche, VP of HTC Europe, commented, “The original HTC Touch has already been a phenomenal success, and the HTC Touch Cruise™ with fully integrated GPS adds another dimension to our leading touchscreen device family. We firmly believe in the importance of choice – one device does not fit everyone’s needs – and we’re proud to have been able to launch three HTC Touch devices since June.”
The HTC Touch Cruise utilizes mapping and navigation solutions from TomTom. This navigation software comes complete with a taster city map or the option of full maps of Western Europe. Other key features include a three megapixel auto focus camera, FM radio and Micro SD memory card slot for adding to the 128MB RAM. The device will be available form both retailers and SIM free from HTC from this month.
Launched in June 2007, the HTC Touch was the first member of the HTC Touch family and has proven to be a massive hit since it launched. The HTC Touch Dual, which features HSDPA connectivity and a sliding keypad, was launched in October 2007.

Oooooooo! Don't know about that!
I might just have to get onto this one. Orbit with attitude!
sdhc sounds cool and access to the storage card is nice.
but everything else isn't that impressive to me.
think faster cpu will decrease batterylife, don't you think guys ?....
no fm radio anymore ?
I will find out, rumors of RDS at HTC Press will find out from O2 development
Yeah Polaris is there ! Woooo !
Any information about his price ??
A-GPS is almost worthless for navigation
Ooops, Sorry that was stupid
I thought that the Polaris was supposed to have a VGA screen! Some nice improved bits, but nothing to major enough to worth trading my Artemis in.
Looks bigger! Any info on the size of this device, is it bigger then the artemis?

About same size as kaiser
Damn wheel
Overall, yes please!!! It is a huge improvement in connectivity, storage and processing power. Two issues though:
It appears that the one thing that I hate on the Orbit is still there: the wheel! Why, o why don't they get rid of this useless gimmick and put direction buttons instead?
It looks like that one of the things I like most in its current form is missing: the trackball.
Does the insider know more about these issues?

Hi!
Well, it looks like you got both. Take a look at post 7 in the original thread http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=10074368
Original thread over on the PPC forum says it is BOTH directional dpad and rotating wheel.

Thanks PK,
I do hope that the "leaked" images of the O2 version are not 100% accurate and we do get more buttons. Buying the subsidised O2 product instead of the generic HTC makes the difference between paying £30 or £400 ( 45 € or 600 € )
What happened to the VGA screen? The early rumors all indicated that this was going to be VGA. How are they going to compete with the E-tens?
Dear Santa (get in early)
Slightly shorter than the orbit, double the storage, double the ram, at least twice as fast a processor, and a really nice flush screen like the touch, oh and better camera and 3g, who said not much of an improvement, looks awesome to me. I think it will be a choice of vogue or polaris for me this xmas, the extra hardware buttons on the polaris could just swing it, but the vogue is a bit smaller hmm...

Artemis Processor

Hey all,
I have a Blue Angel at the moment, 400MHz ARM processor.
How does the orbit processor 200MHz OMAP compare? I know the pseeds are different but so is the architecture...do they work out about the same or not?
I'm thinking baout buying an Orbit but just wanted to know what performance was like on these compared to an older model such as the Blue Angel.
Thanks!

Orbit 2 has a 400MHz processor
Yea I know but I didnt say orbit 2...
I wanted to know is there much different between the 2 processor I mentioned.
Not very different
I got a chance to play with HTC Tytan II and it seemed slower than artemis.
I have both a Blue Angel and Artemis, the only time you notice the difference is when you load up the Artemis with too many applications running at the same time, I think this is more to do with the available memory though.
The Artemis lacks memory whereby the Blue Angel had quite some to go at. Artemis is a great device as was the BA in its day, although I do still like the larger screen size of the BA when using it in the car.
Artemis is fine though with applications running so long as you close the applications when finished with them, install applications to the memory card to preserve the onboard memory and I doubt you would notice the difference between the BA and Artemis in use - Mike
Thanks Mike, that's the kind of comparison I was looking for!
The larger screens of the XDA pda's are ghreat but they're just a little too big and bulky now for carrying around in my pocket...looking for somehting a little smaller now...Orbit looks the goods...I dont need a slide out keyboard, I never use the one on the BA...
Artemis Processor,
Try following website and does all the specification comparison between different modles,

wow, great site, thanks!

[COMP]Desire or Supersonic??

Hi,
I wonder what will be the differences between the Desire and the Supersonic.
As far as I know the Supersonic is the same as the Desire but has the 4.3" screen like the HD2 has had. Ans the over all design may differ.
So did you here some more differences between them two?
And when does the Supersonic come? I heard in summer, maybe june?!
And more RAM/ROM, each with 1gb
I heard also that they'll come out in the summertime.
I just get what is available at the time.. I.e when the iPhone 3gs came out I gave that a go.. Gave that up for the HD2.. Will be changing from the HD2 to the desire... Next will either be Supersonic? or Possible next iPhone??? Unless something more interesting arrives in the mean time.. Guess its a bit like PC's... You could always be waiting for the next best thing the way smart phones are going at the moment..
Then go for the HTC Scorpion/Olympian in Q3 2010. With dual-core snapdragon 1.5Ghz
http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/09/htc-scorpion-with-1-5ghz-snapdragon-wimax-tipped-in-build-file/
Qualcomm details:
Code:
The single-chip, dual-CPU QSD8672™ includes most of the above features, in addition to:
* Dual CPUs, up to 1.5 GHz for faster response and processing
* Low-power 45nm process technology for higher integration and performance
* Higher-resolution WSXGA ([B]1440 x 900[/B]) display support
* High-definition (1080p) video recording and playback
* Support for HSPA+ networks - 28 Mbps downloads and 11 Mbps uploads
* Supports CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO Rel 0/A/B networks
* Improved 3D graphics - up to 80M triangles/sec and 500M+ 3D pixels/sec
Yeah as far as I know it has a 4.3 inch screen and maybe some more RAM and ROM. I have an 4.3 inch screen now, which has pro's and con's. IMO the perfect screen would be between 3.7 and 4.0 inch..
The supersonic is probably going to be more expensive as well. I would go for the desire.
@XDA mark.
Can you say a little bit more about the screen size?
Whats the downside for you of a 4.3"?
i hope verizon gets one of these high powered phones

Sorry to but in. I've owned the HD2 as well. The 4.3" is awesome to use but it is a fraction on the big side (and I have large hands). You will need deep pockets or a purse.
After a month, I was used to it and it felt perfectly natural. Having said that, I think I agree with the sentiment that 3.7" - 4.0" is the sweet spot.
So does the Supersonic come to Germany?
If it really is a Wimax device I sadly think : "No".
Because Germany doesn't get wimax but LTE.

Sure.
First of all, 4.3'' screen means BIG phone. It is just a tiny bit to large to stay 'naturally' in your hand. When you have 2 hands available and you are not moving it is not such a big problem, but when only having one hand and on the move it can be 'not pleasant'. So again, nothing that is really bad, but it is not perfect either.
4.3'' inch screen with 480x800 resolution also is not as sharp as 3.7 inch and the same resolution. Not that the HD2's screen is not amazing though.
Overall what I am trying to say is: it is nice to have a 4.3'' inch screen, but somehow I feel it is not needed. The iPhone's screen is now tiny for me, and I feel that is TOO small. But I asume 3.7'' is just fine. I really think at the moment 3.7 to 4.0 inch is the perfect size, for the current operating system's and applications made for them.
Hope this clears up what I was talking about
To not forget that 4.3 inch screen can be very nice sometimes: Browsing and watching movies is off course better on such a large screen!

There is also a special T-Mobile US Version of HD2... I think the Supersonic
will come to europe with other bands used over here... HTC dont produces
such a nice phone and miss the chance to make much money....

Dual 1.5GHz CPU?? The battery will have to be the size of a small African Nation to get more than a few hours use from it?

Indeed I don't see why we would need that much power from our phones. The Desire should be powerful enough, and we can leave dual-core CPUs for our laptops.
Yeah but the Supersonic with 1Ghz and 4.3" Screen would be a good alternativ with a bigger screen for the Desire.
They did announce it yesterday as Sprint HTC EVO 4g and I hope it gets to Germany/Europe.

Knowing the way HTC likes to play mix and match with it's phones I would not pt it past them to release a 3G GSM version of the supersonic, though obviously it would be called something else.
