Hey, I was just wondering where to buy this phone on contract.
I see many people have it and I really want it on contract.
Its on www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk but is that website trusted?
Thanks, Chris
As far as I'm aware, they've been around for quite some time, so I certainly don't think there's any issue of them being some didgy company if that's what you're worried about.
I do know that they've got limited stock at the moment, although they seem to be getting new deliveries fairly quickly. They're not too easy to get hold of on the phone, and can take a while to respond by email (my guess is they're slammed with demand for the TP2 as they seem to be the only place at the moment to get one on contract).
I had some issues on Friday ordering from them so ended up cancelling, but they emailed this morning to apologise about the mixups, and I had a very helpful guy who's trying to get me one out pdq so fingers crossed.
If you want it on contract, and you want it now, then as far as I'm aware, they are your only option. Others on here have already had TP2 delivered from MPD so they will get you one, there might just be a couple of days delay.
Sweet, thanks.
I think I might just have to purchase one soon then. See, I really need a new phone. I did have an LG viewty which absolutely sucked and wasn't working so I threw it at a concrete floor and the screen went blank and doesn't show anything so now I'm stuck with a SE W810i and it's torture ;o
So yeh, Thanks, Chris

What did you expect? Dont Do this with the Touch Pro 2, it wont fair well at all.
I expected it to work :O Didn't think about it breaking was too annoyed when trying to make important texts... And I wouldn't dare do that witht he tp 2
Thanks
Just to clarify... bought my TP2 on mobilephonesdirect.co.uk a week ago... it's sweet as a nut!
Hi Folks,
Just wanted to check what this thing looked like as I cannot get to see one, especially the keyboard. All the marketing pictures on VF's site seem to be the original HTC ones.
Also interested to hear how folks have got on with any unbranding efforts now that we are quite a few weeks into availability. I think there are some beta CABS around...
Thanks,
Sam
Look on the vodafone business site at the picture of the Diamond. The TF looks the same as that. Horrible!
It is simple to remove using one cab file that will put the phone to a plain black. You can then use any other theme you like, or part of a theme
Stunno,
Thanks for this. Yes, had a look.... hmm. But as you say it takes just one cab file.
Has the keyboard been "painted" red in anyway or lit up in red or is it the original? Hopefully the external branding is just the front and back logo.
Otherwise are you happy with VF? About to take the plunge from another operator.
Thanks,
Sam
Double post due to system hanging....
Sam, no the keyboard appears to be standard, grey keys with black lettering until it lights up and the lettering glows white and green for the FN button. The only visible VF stuff is indeed on the front and back but is very discreet
Vodafone has been very good. I have been with Tmobile for about 6 years and the signal strength/reception is much better with VF, apart from the odd blank spot, Tmobile reception in rural areas was shocking. Having said that I haven't seen an 'H' yet with VF.
I've uploaded the VF manual for you if you want to take a look its about 14MB. It has several depictions of the branding, but as i say it only takes one cab installation of about 10 minutes to clear it
http://rapidshare.com/files/250000341/HTC_Touch_Pro2_Vodafone_UK_English_User_Manual_v1.pdf
Stunno,
You are a star...... Thanks...
Sam
Stunno,
Just scanned the manual... Very useful insight... and reassuring to be honest althought the theme is a little "blood red".
One final thing.... Have VF removed any apps off the original ie YouTube App etc... No doubt any VOIP functionality might have been nobbled as well ???
Another point that you might have thought about is the upgrade policy of VF for things such as firmware and WM6.5. Apparently they are slow. Do you have thoughts on this?
Just trying to decide between 18 and 24 months contracts now !!!
Sam
That's a good question!
I have no Youtube app on mine, but, then again, I had Facebook integration until I changed themes and now I haven't.
I have read elsewhere that the youtube app had been removed, which is no bad thing as the 'allowance' is only 500MB.
There is also no sign of VOIP although I don't know if it is nobbled or not as I don't use that either. I rarely make international calls and my unlimited landline calls makes up for it
Stunno,
Yes the unlimited calls is very attractive to me as well. I guess it will be a good "hand free" tool as when when talking through stuff on the PC or whatever. I tended to us this a bit with my standard business landline which is now costing me too much, so turning my TP2 over for "hands free" mode may be quite an improvement.
Thanks again,
Sam
Double post...
The VF upgrade policy for software doesn't really concern me. I doubt that I would download it anyway as I always tend to use this site for anything like that.
In a few weeks hardSPL will be available, hopefully, and once the chefs get working on here there will be far superior ROMs available than anything VF can put together
I initially went for the 18 month contract, but the 3 months free and a fiver off my bill swung me to the 24 month one
Stunno,
Thanks for your thoughts... Interesting to hear how other think...
Obviously you are quite a hardcore smartphoner!! How do you deal with upgrading within contract? Do you just wait until the 21st month on the 24 when VF allows an upgrade or do you sell you the current phone and get an unlocked "newer" phone to use on the current contract?
Thanks,
Sam
Keep getting these hangs and thus double posts !!
A long time user yes, but I don't know about hardcore! I just read a lot and take grateful advantage of the excellent stuff that gets shared on here!
I tend to stick with the contract until upgrade time then look around for the phone that I want on the best deal. Apart from when I broke my Wizard, which at the time would have cost more to fix than to buy another phone! I got a great deal from Orange on a 12 month contract with a free Prophet which worked out cheaper than buying the phone!
Thanks. Appreciate the comment.
Sam
I should be getting it by 1 PM tomorrow WOOHOOOOO!
I went by the tmobile shop earlyer today and they spouted some rubbish about the release date being put back because of some software bug...
Not sure why there saying that
WOOHOO

Me too!! Tonight is like Christmas Eve again, I feel about 5
The woman I spoke to from T-Mobile on the phone came out with a funny line.
In a ditzy voice: "I just dunno why this phone is being so popular!
Me: "Well, it's got a fantastic spec for the price.."
Her: "Nahhh, I reckon it's just because its called Desire... it'll make people want it!"

OMFG LOL
I should say I also managed to get them to drop the price to about 86 quid or so on the 20 quid a month contract... Im rather chuffed really
The guy i spoke to today did say that they where nearly out of stock already and said I was lucky to call when i did.
As for reviews... not sure ill be any good there. This is my first Android phone. But I can always say how much i love it when i start playing with it...
Mine's on its way too. Tomorrow this forum will be quiet, because everyone will be playing with their new phones
Mines on its way hopefully i will get mine tomorrow.
Please Upload your unboxing Pics
Bit late for that i unboxed it while in bed this morning
its beautiful. Sreens a finger print magnet but oh well
Oh I am having one issue, I put in the Tmobile sim. And several times now i get an alert saying Message could not be downloaded. Generic network error, or something like that.
Anyone else getting that?
Nope, mine's working just fine with T-Mobile UK SIM.
Apologies for starting a new thread, but haven't seen anyone else with this unique situation.... just been to pick up my new HTC Desire from the sorting office, and they've sent me not one, but two - thanks T-Mobile!!
Has this happened to anyone else? I assume I will be on two seperate contracts if I keep quiet... What should I do, given how tempting this appears to be on the surface?!

Heh, i think you should just keep it somewhere until T-Mobile find out their error.. i think its like a 2 month period after which you can keep it! Dont know the laws in the UK though.
At the very least, I would call them up asking how many numbers I have on my account. Did they send you another sim?
I ask because I upgraded, and was sent my phone from Carphonewarehouse, but I was sent another sim card. And it's not a replacement as the package shows it's separate number. I called to ask how many numbers I have on my account as they've sent me another sim, the lady laughed (she had a sexy voice actually, but that's for another time!) and she told me that I have one number and she has no idea what I should do with the extra sim.
So just make sure you aren't paying for two then either:
1. Return it - and go to heaven with a clear soul,
2. Keep it as a spare - not making any significant gains and being morally grey,
3. Sell it, - make significant gains, and go to hell knowing that you made some money in the recession by someone's mistake. You'll save money on heating down there!
Lol

Lol ... i say return it, you didnt pay for it so it doesnt belong to you
if you sold it or kept it, you will probably not get in trouble (am not a lawyer though), because its not your mistake its theirs, .. but remember, ... what goes around comes around

Yeah, I didn't mention karma. But I'm a business man.
What goes around, comes around. With interest.
Lol if you sell if or keep it, yes you are breaking the law if they can prove that you realized that this was in fact a mistake.
I would just let them know they made the mistake, but that they sort it out rather than you having to post it etc.
For my sins and to help me pay for nice new mobiles, I am a lawyer and OnlinePredator is right - you cannot profit from someone else's mistake where it was obvious to you that it was a mistake. In the same way if your bank accidentally credits your account with £2million, you can't blow it on whiskey!
dont listen to these guys they're just jealous u have two.
u just need to find out how many numbers there are on your account whether u wait for ur first bill or call them up.
hpoefully u didnt sign for both packages but just say u recieved one.
As a previous poster mentioned I would check with T-Mobile to see how many numbers are on my account. If it is just the one, I would keep the other handset and see if T-Mobile eventually relaise their mistake.
Hmmmm... think I'll go down the "clear soul" route!! Thanks guys for your helpful comments... I'll let you know what T-Mobile say!
A similar thing happened to me many years ago. Ordered hifi from catalogue, when first statement was recieved it listed 2 hifis, telephoned company and told them we only recieved the one, which we did. On our statement after that one there was no hifi listed. To this day I have not paid a penny towards the hifi which was £850.00.
This is kinda amusing. But if you want legal speak, the lawyer (humans made after all the souls had been allocated, LOL!) is right. There have been various cases, especially with banks, where people have been, erm... "allocated" items, money even company pay, that wasn't meant to go to them. As much as years later, they were made to give it back. In the same that that in various countries you have many years to take legal action after certain events.
But you have taken a higher path, the path of the spiritually enlightened. You are a pure soul. Arise and take your rightful place with the blessed Android community. Arise my brethren.
Actualy im pretty sure the ownous is on the company to correct a mistake... Large somes of money is one thing but for items there is a grace period where you must keep it boxed and ready to be given back...
After that time has gone i think its 6 months the item is legaly yours.
If they have no clue atleast open it to see if it has the pink hue issue lol then keep the one that doesn't.
i say send it back, every one will end up paying for t-mobile mistakes, companies don't lose mony they just charge there customers more.
well ring them up and ask for a returns envelope, then if they don't provide one after 14 day the product is legally yours. (im not a lawyer)
Believe me ... The nature works in balance
Day and night, right and wrong ... you got the idea.
If you dont order it, it is not yours, send it back ...
Otherwise, nature will take something from you to "balance" what you "owe" (because you dont return it). Probably not immediately, but later.

good choice!
Did you unpack them? I'd really like to know if you are seeing any difference in colour, especially if anything is more pink one either phone.
I'd be inclined to open them both and then send the worse one back!
You should check for screen quality - Pinkness and faulty pixels.
Buttons - Correct travel and action.
Case condition.
Just my opinion!
No don't send it back!
It is a blessing .... people say what goes around comes around. Maybe you did something good before and you are getting rewarded lol
Nah ... honestly if you send it back you are a good person ... many people say they would but honestly would they actually?
Ok,
I just to share my pain with you guys. I keep reading you guys on the HOX update thread. I reckon by the time I get a phone without fault, it'll come with Jellybean straight out of the box.
I'm with Carphone Warehouse.
They are brilliant at arranging a swap. But, not so good at sending me a working phone it seems. I'll spare you the details about the issues, but they have all been genuine.
Spoke to a manager today, who said to send the phone to their office, and they will have a look at it. And they will inspect my replacement before they send it out.
However, I'm on the second month of my new contract now, and it's basically 2 months without the phone I ordered. I don't see the point in kicking off over the phone, as most of the time, they don't really have the authority to do much. Plus, it's no good for the blood pressure if you end up arguing with a jerk.
Far better to take your time and write a letter to head office, spelling out all the issues, the timeline and what you want as a resolution. And then sleep on it. Edit it, and sleep on it again before sending it.
If you were me, what would you ask them for? (apart from a working phone, but hopefully that is in the bag if they truly are going to inspect it)
I don't mind stupid comments as long as you give a sensible one as well. I could do with some light relief.
If you were me, what would you ask them for?
a galaxy s3 and be done with it, flawless first time
oh and it being a better phone will be a bonus to
it took me 3 one x's to get a decent one, gave that to the missus and got a gs3, its a much better phone
Your 2 months line rental back at a minimum
Sent from my VegaComb using XDA Premium HD app
If you just want a phone ask if you can swap for a gs3(I had this option and didn't go for it because I don't find the gs3 better than the one x). If you still want a one x, let then let you pick it up in-store, maybe let you into the store room and puck the box personally. Even say if you can get the one x+ for free when it comes out

I would wonder why I wouldn't ask for a different phone after the third or fourth time.
Edit: Just pulled up reviews for CPW. They kinda suck if you look at their reviews. Perhaps it's not the phone, but who you've gotten 10 phones from.

Yes, they did offer me the SG3.
I don't like the screen. Nor the dialler. Or the design.
As for why I different ask for a different phone.
Kind of like those situations where you're waiting for a bus. And you've been waiting that long, you could have walked, but didn't, because you knew the next one would be here in a minute.
I've spoken to them, and if they don't send me out a working phone, without flaws, then I will be getting an SG3.
(but then, whose to say I won't have the same issues with the SG3!! I might just be one of those really unlucky SOB's...)
I mean, given probability, you would have thought that by the 8th one, I would have got a working one.
What I don't want to do, is end up over on the SG3 forum, with the same title, except it saying
My 10th replacement SG3.
And 4 months into my contract.
Yes, you're right. Definitely the 2 months line rental.
You have my sympathy, it took me 4 replacements on the 3 network to get a usable phone and I thought I had it bad, you're doing well not to lose it, sounds like Carphone Warehoue are being decent at least with swapping them out each time rather than a repair.
Then again, with 3 i'm still on 1.28 with bugs galore so it's still not 100%. I would definitely be asking for the 2 months back as you haven't had the benefit of the service you're paying for. I really would have thought HTC would have these problems sorted by now, I'm very surprised.
I would probably at this point even ask for a refund, hold out a month or two and maybe either try again or opt for another phone if something else you fancied came along.
If they are going to check out the new replacement first, maybe give them this chance and then consider your options. Good luck!
@Op,
10 new replacements in 2 months does make me think your story is crap, that's how I see it.

I'd have gone through two. Maybe three. But ten? Unless there was a bad run and CPW got all of them the odds of getting that many defective devices in a row are astronomical. Early in the launch when the One X was at its worst the "perfect vs. non-perfect poll" showed 70% declared perfect by their owners. Out of ten that's seven that were fault free. OP, you seem to have bad karma with the One X. I'd suggest not tempting the gods any longer and finding a substitute.
I also say total crap,
Carphone warehouse wouldn't even replace it 10 times, they would have offered a different phone or scrapped the contract long before now.
I've had one HOX, (release day 5th april)
The one I'm using now is the same phone, it's faultless.
Oh, and I got it from Carphone Warehouse.

So true :good:
Op hasn't mentioned what the "fault or flaw" is that he has experienced. Utter Bull crap if you ask me.
I feel so sorry for htc...because of these people that send their phones back for a creaking screen or flashing lcd's bla bla bla. It is breaking htc to the point of needing a bail-out from the Taiwanese Banks!
I've owned my One X since May and experienced all of the bugs that have been discussed in these forums but I never gave up on her, she's been wonderful to me. Luckily I don't have any hardware defects and accept that she is what she is a hot & sexy and occasionally sometimes difficult to be with. But I love my One X to the end.
Sorry for the rant but really come on 10 returns?? Why didn't you switch service providers after the 3rd return? And next time tell us what flaw's you were experiencing other wise we'll just think you're talking utter crap...end
Well I have just received my fifth replacement (First four because of GPS issues), and this one I found, to my dismay, has a faulty touch screen. I.e. the top third of the screen doesn't register any touch, and I can't drag notification bar down, or search for apps in Play Store etc etc.
This one was FROM HTC.... ugh
Wow 10 replacements does sound bad indeed. Maybe you are just to picky, or they keep sending you the same phone
i got mine since it came out. The only problem with it is the creacking on the left side. It does seem annoying sometimes but not enough to start bugging htc or complain about sh*t quality. I love my phone as it is. Theres nothing perfect in this world

Yea mine also seems to have that issue and the light leak at the bottom on a black screen, but it's not enough for me to send it back. I only had one issue with the phone after I got it and that was a faulty SIM card, but my Service provider, MTN Just swapped it the next day. I love my phone and am running JB ROM now. it makes all the difference. 10 swaps seems like a picky user or you must have been a terrible person in your previous life.

Well just so you know HTC/retailers/carriers dont just keep the returned phones. They resell them to other customers in different manners depending on how honest the party is. HTC is having financial problems because people just dont buy their phones to begin with. I just started working at a phone store and the people there push the SGS3 like crazy and customers just ask about IP4S )
And just because you like the ideal design/ concept/ the brand doesnt make the messy production acceptable. Idk about other major Android phone releases, but I've seen so many people who had to swap A COUPLE OF times just to get a decent one. That was a bit shocking. And I've seen people who claimed to have a perfect handset in the beginning now have issues with the wifi-antenna. SO just a reminder for those of you HTC police, before chastising the disgruntled customers, think about karma. Your perfect phones may be the next one in the line to be sent back to customer service and I'll be eagerly waiting for the story about your experience with HTC repair, especially those you that live in the UK.
PS: Just to say preemptively that Im not a Samsung/ Apple/ Sony fan boy. HTC is still my most favourite Android manufacturer but that doesnt mean I need to suck up to their horrendous quality control.

@ averygagaanroid I totally agree with you.
My personal experience with htc thus far has been exceptional and the three gorgeous phone's I've owned from them in the last 5-6 years have been a Hero, Desire and One X and yes a have found bugs but I was patient enough and now I still have these perfect working phone's now.
I only hope that htc pull's through these hard times and comes out stronger because I will be buying my next phone from htc in the next 18 months.
What network are you working for?
