Received MDA III from T-mobile - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I suppose MDA III were all equippend with 128MB RAM and 96MB ROM.
I am looking at settings/ device information / hardware, but I cannot see the true size of the ROM.
Thanks and waiting for suggestions
saulo866

They all say that.
Go to the Memory applet, and view your free 'Storage' memory. That should ease your mind.

still much less than 96MB
Dear TheGadget
Please explain, elaborate:
1.
I see two storage areas:
- storage
- extended ROM
After a hard reset (no programs installed, except I have sync my inbox) the memory applet is saying:
- storage: used 0.01MB free 43.25MB
- extended ROM: used 15.89MB free 0.08MB
The main screen says
Total Memory 125.77 (I guess this is the 128MB RAM)
Anyway (43.25 + 0.08)MB is surely more than 32MB but still MUCH LESS than 96MB.
2.
How do you explain that on my MDA COMPACT, under device information, I see
RAM SIZE: 64MB (correct)
FLASH SIZE: 64MB (correct)
- storage: used 0.45MB free 7.15MB
- extended ROM: used 10.19MB free 8.77MB
on my MDA III I see
RAM SIZE: 128MB (correct)
FLASH SIZE: 32MB (!??!)
Thanks and waiting

The 3rd part of the rom is the part that holds the MS operating system. Which I would presume is the 32mb of 'flash rom' you can see in Device Info.
I don't think there are any claims that 96mb is available as free storage space?
JD

Thanks Jdee
In fact to be more detailed, after scrolling I see the following info (Device Information > Hardware):
RAM size: 128MB
Flash Size: 32MB
Flich Chip type: 28F128K3
Storage Size: 43.26MB
Can you confirm that, you see the same data?
Thanks
saulo866

Yes, just the same in my Xda IIs.

Re: still much less than 96MB
You use wrong calculations.

storage: 43.25Mb. This is 48Mb minus FAT structure and minus some other internal data structures, probably operator boot logos.
extended ROM: 16Mb that contains CAB files.
Flash Size: 32MB - correct. This is flash used by the main device ROM which contains WinCE kernel.
You get 48+16+32=96Mb as written in the specifications. Though only 43Mb can be used by you. Or ~60Mb if you unlock extended ROM and delete everything from there.

Dear Mamaich
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR INFO!
I wish to UNLOCK my extended ROM, get rid of any additional programs and make full use of it as STORAGE MEMORY (for programs, etc)
Can you point me a link for instructions and relevant application to perfomr such a task?
2.
Can you please also explain how to burn me a more recent English Firmware for both my ROM and Extended ROM ?
I currently hanve:
ROM 1.12.00 WWE
Roma Date 09/02/04
Radio 1.00.00
protocol 1337.30
ExtROM: 1.22 ITA (I need to change to ENG!)
Thanks

Alternatively, why not just buy an SD card ? They are very cheap these days.

Universal ExtROM Question

I just upgraded my O2 XDA Exec with Ivan's 3.2 AKU ROM but when I check the memory i get these numbers:
Storage:
Total: 35.59 MB
In use: 4.05 MB
Free: 35.54 MB
Program:
Total: 48.20 MB
In use: 19.70 MB
Free: 28.50 MB
Do I need to unlock my ExtROM first? If I unlock it, will upgrading the ROM make use of the unlocked ExtROM?
use the search function and you will find your answer to this question

This ROM actually is fast, but i have a problem with the memory.
Now it is:
Storage Total: 50.40 MB
In use: 11.09 MB
Free: 39.32
Program (!): Total: 49.97 MB
In use: 33.18 MB

for me this ROM is very good and fast for me.
two stuff :
- QuicK GPS doesn`t work
- problems with leak of memory....
do you know somebody how fix the problems with memory?
this rom is slow it eats alote of ram the ram always stays in the start 62 or more %
If you haven't a lot of ram you can change the pool size yourself, easily. It will be a little more slow but you will have more memory
Tools are in artemis section
Error 260: Connection
I tried to flash this rom, but error 260 occured What am I doing wrong
Nice ROM, better then previous 6.5. Is possible to change programs in CHome?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502210&page=10
This rom is the best 6.5 i've tried. It still fast and useful with 80% of ram load. This version of 6.5 is the more pratic that i saw. One default : batery drain it's expensive (2 days max without wifi & BT)...

Installed RAM on your T-Mobile Touch Pro 2

Hey, is it just me or the device shows 256MB as installed ram?
Under Settings->Device Information | Hardware
http://www.htc.com/us/product/t-mobiletouchpro2/specification.html clearly states that there is 288MB Ram onboard.
mine states 288mb
Yeah mine says 256MB it yours a T-mobile version? They released a patch for the European version to correct this. They must not have that fix on the TMO version.

I just called HTC, and gave them my info, they said that it's a ROM glitch that the other 32MB wasn't being picked up. He also said it should only be the Austrlian batch which had the issue, and that they weren't aware that the T-Mobile US version had the issue as well, but he opened up a ticket for me
Rom Version is : 1.20.531.4 (51986) WWE
I'll post any progress.

Australian, European Same difference! Just Kidding. I just knew that versions of the phone had a similar problem just assumed it was the European. Maybe they'll release a fix then!

I have v1.20.531.4 and my T-Mo TP2 states I have 288MB.... Not sure why they would have different readings for the same ROM????? Maybe a hard reset will help.... Or going back to the store and swapping it out
That's funny, mines says 256MB also.
What the heck???
Edit: and I even Hard Reset it just today...
Same ROM version here and my TMo shows 256. Does this actually have an effect on the phone, or is this simply a typo on that screen?

AFAIK it's a typo.. there will be the correct amount of RAM installed on your phone, just not being displayed properly

i have the same tmobile rom, and it shows 256.its hard to think its a typo in the hardware manager. i would imagine that if the hardwware manager is reporting 256 to us on screen then it must think there IS 256 on board...which makes me feel like that even if there is physically 288 the phone will only utilize 256 of that.
i guess the real way to tell is try to math out all memory being used and what the phone saysw is left for available mem. or some 3rd party software that will read hardware specs and whats really in use and free.
my gut feelingis its not utilizing 32mb of ram thats there
Tmo TP2

256MB

Nah, thats the available space on ROM. If you look @ RAM, it's 188.46
Baseband chip takes off 64MB or so (I believe) , Add that to 188.46 and you're around 256, not 288.
Version 1.20.531.4 WWE
USA T-Mobile TP2
RAM size: 256
Anyone got this patch?
US Tmo
On the htc site it states that the device has:
512 meg Rom
288 meg Ram
I assume that the Rom is storage
and that the Ram is for running programs
If this in deed the case what the heck with these numbers on my phone:
Rom: 285
Ram: 188
I have UK vodafone unit and it says 292.04 storage and 188.21 program RAM!
Just checked my phone. T-mobile TP2
Rom Version: 1.20.531.4 (51986) WWE
Rom Date: 06/08/2009
RAM Size: 256 MB
Also a side note, has anyone else noticed the Bluetooth Version says it's 2.1 + EDR. But HTC says its only Bluettoth 2.0 + EDR.

I guess I'll be watching this thread...
512 MB ROM
288 MB RAM
For me...good to go!
Heres mines

Missing RAM

I am running energy rom 23518 and all the version are missing 15mb or ram on my tmobile touch pro2. The official upgrade has 188 maximum memory but energy rom only has 173 mb. How I can fix it?
Are you sure there isnt anything running that is using that ram?
building memory on tmobile touch pro2 is 288 and 96 are being used for video and etc. that leaves maximum meory or build in memory avaiable for programs at 188 but on energy rom I only get 173. Energy rom uses about 26mb of ram
sims that bug is giving less maximum memory.

You might wanna ask the dev of the rom if the bug can be fixed to allow more memory to be freed.
it depends on how well the kitchen is put together
and what packages went in....
it is not a bug,it can't be fixed,it's just the matter of a rom...try another one if you wish

NRG ROM has a very high pagepool, if I recall correctly, something like 30MB. you can change it, but you need to do this to the image file before you flash the ROM. I have found that anywhere from 16-24MB seems to work well.
There's a tool here you can use to view/change the pagepool of the ROM before you flash it.
more here as well on all this you should read up on:

[Q] Radio Mod / Freeing up wasted RAM

I was thinking how our radio takes up 17,574 KB of RAM yet when you open up the radio in a hex editor, there is so much free space (wasted RAM). Would it be possible like in the Dream forum: 2708+ enabled kernel [14MB ram with radio 2.22.27.08/2.22.28.25 & hboot 1.33.0013d] to optimize the radio and the Bootloader to only load the useful portion of the radio thus freeing up more RAM for our device? Just bringing up an idea, I only wish I knew how to actually do this.
