As I know 0.3 Mpixel...the magician has an 1.3 Mpixel camera...

It just LOOKS like a 0.3!! (at least on the 2i).

vga = 640x480 pixels = 307200 pixels = 0.3 megapixels
You can have as many pixels as you like in a camera.
It all depends what you do with them in terms of processing.
If your camera creates jpegs then it really doesn't matter that much because jpeg is lossy compression.
If your camera can handle RAW TIFs then its worth having lots of pixels.
1.3 megapixel camera = 1,331,200 pixels at 24bits per pixel.
That's 31,948,800 bits which is 3,993,600 bytes which is nearly 4 MB per picture.
Once you run sufficient jpeg compression to actually fit those pictures on a pocket pc you have to ask what was the point of having 1.3 megapixels in the first place.
It certainly explains why the pictures end up looking crap though.

Tilt2 camera?....

Ok, this camera states its 3.2 megapixels. But the picture quality is worse than the one from my old phone which had only 2 megapixels. Do I need to change the settings or anything?
Megapixels have nothing to do with quality, only size. Make sure you have the largest resolution picked and that it is set to SuperFine. Still, the camera on the TP2 is only so-so.

Picture quality also depends on the camera lenses used. HTC doesn't really use great lenses.
Sony Ericsson (I had the SE C702 CyberShot phone before) uses very-high-quality camera lenses, and the pictures it produced were great!

Well, if you have a 8MP camera vs. a 3.2MP camera taking the same exact photo, and you were to print a 3x5" photo from each, the 8MP should still give you better quality than the 3.2MP. The 8MP camera is able to produce 8 mil. pixels whereas the 3.2MP camera can only produce 3.2 mil. pixels. If you were to print the 3x5" photo, the more pixels, the clearer the image.

Again, that's not a quality issue, per se. Anytime you increase the size of a photo without increasing the number of pixels used to display it, the pic will suffer because things like compression artifacts and aliasing will be more pronounced and visible. Not that these things aren't present in both the 3mp and the 8mp images, they will just be more noticeable in the 3mp image that is displayed at the same size as the 8mp image. That's the real value of more megapixels, the ability to increase print or display size without the ill effects. But that has little to do with quality.
I've been a pro photog for the past 18 years and shooting digitally for magazines since 1997. I started with a sub-1mp camera back then and the quality was fine, but the low pixel count limited our ability to use digital pics for more than just 1/4 page shots or smaller. By the time we got to 4mp cameras we were using them for full page spreads without issue. An 8mp camera can now yield a decent two-page spread. Still, the quality of pics hasn't been increased with more megapixels, only our ability to display them at larger print sizes.
It's easy to confuse megapixels with quality and manufacturers share much of the blame for convincing consumers that more mp=better quality with their sales shtick, but when you understand that quality is not necessarily tied to size, you realize that application is the main factor. For instance a 2mp camera can shoot very high quality 4X6 photos, but blowing those same pics up to 8X10 will reveal the weakness in megapixels, not quality. At the optimum size for a particular mp format, more mp does not yield higher quality, only higher storage and processing needs. It will give you more flexibility in cropping if your skills with the camera are lacking, and more format choices when printing, but not higher quality.
So how would I get the best quality out of my camera?
Have you installed the cab that gives you more camera settings? It gives you a SuperFine setting unavailable on the stock setup. Do a search for it. Also, make sure the lens is clean. Handling the phone often causes fingerprints and smudges on the lens that reduce photo quality.

I thought it comes with Super Fine by default. Anyway, I've always had to play around with the light settings the get the color I wanted. I set the ISO at 200. And lighting also takes a toll on the quality of the picture.
Anyway, the camera sucks. i wish they had a button to turn off auto focusing when i need to take quick shots lol
Cameras on cell phones are more of a convenience than a sophisticated capture device. While some actually take fairly good photos, I wouldn't expect too much from any of them. They certainly aren't designed to replace a good point-and-shoot.

Hi, I simply luv my Defy for everything except the camera... How is it 5mp same as iphone4 but the quality differs so much? Or is there a tweak to e processing available which I dun know??

Why do you think it is much worse than the iphone 4's camera? It makes pictures a littlebit darker but in good light i think it makes better pictures, because the iphone blows the whites out, and oversaturates the picture. But neither the iphone nor the defy is any way compareable to even the cheapest point and shoot camera

The new firmware 2.2 is improving the camera quality. Just wait a few more weeks for the release.
I agree the defy camera is better than an iphone4 in verygood lighting... But think all other manufacturers sld seriously learn from apple tat when we use our camera on our phone... We simply want fast & quality nice enough to share... Everyday living conditions n impromptu moments n for me I like to take food pictures... most of the time its difficult to have good lighting... For iphone4 its like 90% of such pics will turnout excellent... Whereas on my defy I have to find repeatedly for a good angle n light for a good shot...
Not the best solution, but try to edit with Kodak Perfect Touch.
Nokia N8 is the phone to buy if you really want a phone with a great camera -- it beat point and shoot cameras in a test. 12mp camera, I believe.

i can attest that defy camera sucks, and even a bb torch has better camera. luckily i'm not a cam whore, so phone camera is not important to me

Normal photo form defy, if you have defy with green lens (image sensor Omnivision OV5642 - compression done by OV5642) you should get photos like point 1 (files in archive: defy_green_lenses.jpg, defy_green_lenses_2.jpg), we could change image quality???
if you have defy with red lens (image sensor like in milestone2???) you should get photos like point 2 (files in archive: defy_red_lenses.jpg, defy_red_lenses_2.jpg), 2 of 3 checked phone with BT33 has this sensor.

There are 2 different hardware version Motorola Defy, First version with green lens - have image sensor (camera) OV5642, second version with red lens - have image sensor (camera) like milestone2??. Images in archive show differences in image taken by different version Motorola Defy.
I think that he wanted to ask, how to edit mot_ise_imager_cfg.bin to improve the quality of pictures in green-lens camera This is really intresting for me too.

Green sensor is OV5642 is probably same as IPhone 4 sensor. Red is like Milestone sensor. So green should be theoretically very good.
Problem being Motorola hasnt figured out how to use the OV5642 with the TI OMAP processor.
Clearly, without 720p Motorola is giving away the chance to position the Defy as high-end phone in the market. If they activate 720p they can keep the price up for another year.
Or they invent a Defy HD with better screen and 720p and increase price as HTC did.
Anyway the 848x480 patch with lgCamera makes me already reasonably happy.

[Q] Interpolation of Xperia T2 Ultra Camera

If ever anyone here
knows how to interpolate camera resolution please share your
knowledge guys. Camera interpolation is a process to adjust
the camera resolution into higher than its physical or actual
resolution like for example I have a phone with 8 megapixel
main camera then I interpolate it to 12MP resolution. The
picture of 8MP cam vs the interpolated 12MP might have the
same clarity but different file size, higher resolution means
much higher file size.
Other benefit of camera interpolation could be the details of
the pictures once zoomed, you can still have detailed picture
even after a deep zoom.
On our T2 Ultra, we all want our picture to be taken at full
screen or 16:9 ratio but we cannot use the 13megapixel in
that ratio or full screen instead only at 9MP.
Here's T2 Camera settings
13MP - 4:3 screen ratio
9MP - 16:9 screen ratio
5MP - 4:3
2MP - 16:9
VGA - 4:3
Any possibility guys to interpolate our 13MP XPERIA T2
ULTRA cam to 16MP maybe so that we can have the
following camera settings
16MP (interpolated) - 4:3 screen ratio
13MP - 16:9 screen ratio ( my target)

Bro u are wrong our t2 have 4:3 sensor which take 12 mp picture and if we switch to 16:9 that phone takes that 12 mp 4:3 picture and convert it into a 16:9 picture which will 8 mp so it can't possible what u are saying...

Difference between the camera MP?

I cant seem to differentiate between 12mp and the 16mp other than the ratio size. I cannot notice any drop in the quality when viewing the pictures normally and zoomed in from my phone or maybe I think my eyesight is pretty bad . Can someone help me over here?:fingers-crossed:
Megapixels doesnt influence the picture quality of a camera, its sensor does. megapixels determine the size of your picture so for eg you can have a 50 megapixel camera but if the sensor is bad you wont get a good picture and vice versa, which is the reason that older dslr and point and shoot camera's still out perform many modern day phones because they had big sensors specially the dslrs. until and unless you are going to print posters and heavily zoom and crop a picture 12, 16 or 20 megapixel is more than enough.

Does S20's camera really contain 64 MP?

In S20, when u set the camera for 3:4 64 MP, the zoom goes only upto 6X. In other settings using 12/9 MP, it goes all the way upto 30X.
Now, when you have 64 MP at your disposal, this format should be more amenable for 30X than 12 or 9 MP format.
Further, I find that 64 MP, 6X does not produce any better image than 12MP, 6X. After 6X, the resultant image with 12 MP contains 2MP & with 64 MP, it should contain 64/6 = 10.6 MP (if it is a crop) & so the latter is expected to show much greater detail without pixelisation. But actually it's not so.
And even after 6X, the file shows the picture contains 64 MP. How's it so? From the quality, it appears like a digital crop rather than optical zoom.
I really doubt if it contains 64 MP.

Think the sensor is definitely 64mp (without zooming in at all), but as soon as you zoom etc it behaves in a hybrid manner, not in a typical cropping manner.
Well, sometimes cameras marked as 12MP are actually higher MP sensor, but they take for example a 16MP image, and reduce it to 12MP and mark that as a 12MP sensor, this way they can get better images
I think that's not the case on the 64MP, it's REALLY 64MP and they didn't cheat anywhere, so if you take a 12MP section of the 64MP base it's not so great because it's not like a smaller sensor where it's cropped intentionally.*
In fact, digital zooming have the advantage of being able to have use of the whole sensor if you want to, and therefor get extreme good quality images, but when zooming in it's never as a good as an optical zoom
