Desperate to do a hard reset

Excuse my poor writing English.
I was cleanig my sd card whith sk tools program, and I made a mistake and clean all files from main memory.
Now I don't have access to the programs, and the soft reset and the camaras buttons don't work.
How can I do a hard reset in these circumstances?
Please help. I really need the phone working.
Thanks.
hard reset is usually done by holding in the top two inner (menu) buttons while pressing the soft reset button, let go the reset button first then when the warning comes on screen release the other 2. Then press call to start the reset process.
Thank you for the answer.
The problem is the soft reset button doesn't work.
Is there other way to do the hard reset?
hard reset
You shold do:
Start>settings>system>clear storage> it is a hard reset too
Surely if the files on the phones memeory has been wiped the pressing the buttons on the handset will be pointless as there will be no programmes/commands linked to them
Sounds pretty serious to me

Maybe you can try a reflash of the rom?
Thank you.
It seems that I have a serious problem.
If somebody know another way of doing the hard reset, please inform.

Ok, seems that the only way is to do a refash of the rom.
How do I make that?
Please help
Thanks.
PS: In the process I hope not to use the active sync, because it doesn't work in my computer
dude i guess you need to reflash the rom
yes you need active synch to run uspl which you need before you flash/reflash a rom
your alternatives
use SD flashing read about it in wiki xda developers i never used it but its there
all the best sincere wishes to recover your pda

just another two thoughts are you aware that if you hold the power button the phone restart it like soft reset!! so i guess you may want to try this b4 anything else i mean hold the two soft buttons & attempt reset via power!!
you may also want to try a programme called IBE Tweaks it has HARD RESET feature built in it!!
let us know how things go
Reflash the rom & dont forget to run a uspl first
After several attempts finally I managed to do the hard reset using the buttons, and my pda is work fine again
In any way, I will try your indications to prevent futures problems.
Thanks jahrami, you have been very useful.
U most welcome so glad u got ur phone back

O2 XDA Orbit - Upgrading/Backup/Flashing

Sorry if the post has already been mentioned in another forum before.
I have an O2 XDA Orbit and i'm looking to put Fracoons Artermis rom on it http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...o♦.
I'm pretty new to flashing phones and PDA's but i'm quite experienced with a PC so shouldnt need to much help!
I was wondering what steps I should ensure to take to make sure that I dont turn it into a brick, I could do with a complete guide! I've also been told that i'll need to run the Artermus USPL program after connecting the phone. But any help and advice would be a great help. Is there anyway to backup the phone in the state it is at present if or if it doesnt go wrong?
Thankyou for the help and sorry again i've this has already been asked by someone else! Will really appreciated it!
There is no assurance that the process will not make your device a brick. But it happens only on a rare case. Many 1000s of users have upgraded without problems however a few has got their devices a brick.
There is no point taking a backup as the new ROM will give you different files. Anyway, to make sure you don't end up with a bricked device:
-Charge your device fully
-Run USPL
-The process should complete successfully!
-Upgrade ROM.
-Never disconnect your Pocket PC or turn of your PC when the upgrade is going on.
-If your stuck anywhere, don't try to do anything stupid but come here and post.
-Your device should be fine
-Even if some devices get bricked during one of the upgrade process, there is still a high chance of bringing your device back to good working condition with the help of a Factory ROM and so don't worry and go ahead.
Regards,
Carty..
that's my biggest concern so far... my XDA II SHOULD be able to run WM5 but i'm very concerned that i could turn it into a brick... the reason for this is: the XDA is the only phone i have at the moment.
If it bricks, then i'm literally screwed... i have the HimaUpgrade File that does not need an ID, and as i'm pretty fluent with English, i see no problem in using an English ROM.
The Wiki is a good place to start... but i still don't know if i REALLY need active sync to be running or not, since i cannot understand what good that would do if the device is in Bootloader Mode anyway.
Reason for this is that sometimes i read "Active Sync should be on" and sometimes i read the complete opposite... it's freaking me out.
Device should be Synchronized always for the best choice. All un-official ROMs will require this. However, factory ROMs can be flashed directly from Bootloader mode.
That is why I said when you think you screwed the process of upgrading, mostly your device will be stuck at bootloader or you can access bootloader screen and only a factory rom can go from here.
PS: I wont guarantee if the above will be true on all conditions.
Regards,
Carty..
I flash all my ROMs in bootloader mode, including my own, so it's not restricted to the official ROMs. But you need a working ROM to get it back alive.
I'd recommend using a laptop for flashing or use a USV. If some guys cut your power your computer would crash right in the middle of the flashing process - won't happen on a laptop with a working battery.
This is what I want to know. How do I flash in bootloader mode?
okay, i did it this way: first of all you need a rom to flash your device with, but i guess that should be clear
To put your device into Bootloader Mode you have to press the On/Off Button, the Directional Pad AND the reset button (mostly at the lower left corner) simultaneously.
Release the Reset Button first after about a second, and then the other two Buttons.
Your Device should say "Serial" on its Screen... by that time you can put your Device in the Cradle or connect it via a USB Datacable to your PC.
Also: connect the Cable/Cradle directly to your PC, not to a hub as that could cause Problems during the Flashing Process.
Now you can start the Flash-Program, wait approximately 30 Minutes (if you are just flashing the ROM and nothing else) and follow the Instructions that came with your ROM WORD FOR WORD as these instructions are working for most people.
I'm not saying that flashing is without Problems though... when i flashed my XDA II with WM2005 yesterday, i was not able to send/receive Textmessages (SMS), so i had to reflash the device again with the last ROM released by O2, which sucks.

[Q] Bricked? Screen Fails to turn on after it's turned off the first time.

Hi,
I'm experiencing a strange problem with my Desire. It's S-ON and rooted with modaco's root kit.
I was running CM6 nightlies fine for 2 weeks. All of a sudden the screen failed to turn on. The only way to make it work again is to take out the battery and boot. Once booted, the first time the screen goes to sleep again, it's impossible to turn it back on. It also happens when I turn the screen off manually with the Power button.
I'm not a newb. I'm familier with adb, flashing various roms and radios. I've been actively reading these forums since I signed up here.
I've also performed all the wipes in modaco's rooting pack recovery various times (wipe factory, wipe cache, wipe dalvic-cache, wipe battery stats etc.)
No matter what I try, how many times I wipe and which ROM I flash the screen sleep problem still persists.
Radio version: 32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23.zip (I also reflashed this once)
I would appreciate any help. Please let me know if you need more information about the problem, or device.
thanks
Have you tried wiping the SD card partitions and setting them up again?
Or if you have a spare, using that so you dont destroy your data??
If you are using A2SD then a corrupted partition might be causing this?? Worth a try as you've pretty much done all else bar shove it in a microwave on FULL for a min*
*dont try this!!! lol
Hope you get it sorted.....

I'm not using ext3/partitions on the sdcard. Either way, the problem also persists when the sdcard is not in the phone.
When the screen goes off what happens if you ring the phone? Try setting the volume off silent and wait for the screen to blank and call it - see what happens..
I'd then try flashing an RUU and using a blank unpartitioned SD card so the phone is as it came from the factory... if that fails then I'd guess you might have a hardware fault as that's pretty much all that it can be

thanks for your reply.
When the screen is off, and I call the phone, I can answer it by sliding the blank screen and perform a phone conversation. The screen never turns on though, not even when the call is over.
I will look for a 2.1 RUU rom on the forums here and flash it. See what that does. Do you have any suggestions on which RUU? (I thought 2.1 so it's rootable again). .. Also is the flashing process the same as flashing a custom ROM?
I'm not sure if flashing an RUU is going to work - you can try, but I think this is more of a hardware issue worth a try as if you've got to send it back then you'll need to unroot...
Only thing to be aware of is if you send it back to HTC you'll more than likely get an SLCD screen rather than the AMOLED you may have at the moment - the jury is out of which is better....

[Q] stuck on htc screen after using rom manager

Help! I just rooted my new Desire with the unrevoked method. Then I installed Rom Manager, saved its recovery mode and backed up my ROM. Everything seemed to go well enough, but now my Desire is stuck endlessly rebooting to the HTC Screen.
I can access the Clockmod Recovery screen however. I've tried the system reboot option but that just gets me the Htc screen rebooting again and again.
I'm pretty much a newbie to this and didn't want to choose another option (wipe data/factory reset, restore saved rom) without checking it out as I don't want to brick my new Desire.
Could someone give me a step by step plan for recovering my Desire?
Many thanks,
Joe
Nice thing you have a nandroid backup. Just restore the backup. it should work.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You have to wipe all the data and just flash a new Rom.

stuck on htc screen after using rom manager
Thanks for this. A couple of other newbie questions. As I understand it, I wipe the data using the Recovery option, and I found the how to flash a rom instructions. If I want a stock rom (like the one that came with the Orange Desire here in the UK) where would I get that? And do you think it might work if I restored the first backup I made, or do you think that's faulty...
Thanks again,
Joe
stuck on htc screen after using rom manager
Things went from bad to worse. My battery seemed to stop charging so I wasn't able to get back to the recovery screen, and when I plugged the desire into the computer via the usb cable I simply got a flickering htc screen. I've had to send it back to Orange.
This experience has certainly made me leary of rooting and using rom manager again!
Does anybody have any explanation of what went wrong?
Joe
When the phone gets stuck in that loop when its trying to boot it wont charge, im not sure why.
The same thing happend to me using Rom manager. (maybe its a bug with the new version, or maybe we just didnt use it right)
I managed to get my phone to charge by taking out the battery and putting it back in ... so the phone was off, put it into the charger until it was fully charged and then did the recovery.
Battery affected by rom manager?
There's an addendum to this story. I replaced my Desire but had the same problem again, which seemed to be down to the battery in the end. Is it possible that the (virtually new) battery was affected by either rooting or rom manager backing up the rom? It seems very weird!
Joe
This might work for you
Remember to power down your Desire totally and charge it for about 2 hours or so (just to be safe) and continue.
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
EDIT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BOOT GO TO THE BOOTLOADER MENU.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Run the win-down.bat file.
Follow on screen instructions.
After the process is completed, Head to the root of your SD card and check if there is a file named P99***IMG (FORGOT THE EXACT NAME BUT IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS) there should be one.
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)
Hope this helps you and please ask if you have further questions. PM me if the questions cannot be answered here. Good Luck
Ta
Thanks for the long reply. Sadly, I'm unable to test it out as I had to return my phone to Orange. I'm still rather mystified by what happened in the end (how could rooting affect a battery?) but I'll keep your reply on hand in case it happens next time I root.

First, I suggest you remove the battery for a few seconds. Then replace it and immediately push and hold the Send and End hardware keys on the front of your device then while holding those down push and hold the power button until the message shows on the screen saying to factory reset your device and follow the instructions to factory reset/hard reset.
If your device won't boot after that you probably need to run task29 then reflash your rom.

I have a question related to this device. I had put some sort of device lock on my touchpro 2. This was a long time ago, and I am now on an EVO 4G. However, I decided to keep the touchpro 2 as a backup device. I know i was running a non stock rom (as I flash pretty much all phones i get). The question is, will the method used above work in my case? Can I get past the lockscreen by using the steps above? Please let me know, as I just want to have the phone usable for the furture. I would as sprint, but as it is not activated and has a non stock rom on it, i doubt highly that they will be of any help. Please assist, as almost all forums on this model seem dead.
Thanks,
Andrew

I guess my question is not so much geared at if the button combination will initiate a hard reset, but more on the effect of the hard reset itself. What I mean, is will it revert to stock if I have another rom flashed? I only ask this because in other instances where I had a non stock rom, and i wanted to revert to stock to take into sprint, I always had to flash a stock rom and never even thought a hard reset would return to fresh out the box state. Unless I am missing something, I am guessing that a hard reset resets the device to whatever it was initially flashed to. For example, if in flashing rom B you made backup of rom A (which would include its settings), then if you chose to restore to the backup you created, I am thinking that that restore point becomes your point at which the hard reset will bring you to. (if that makes sense). In other words, you will never go back to stock off a hard reset, but you can go to a fresh version of the rom you flashed, or in my case, probably a backup i created which has the damn security pin already enabled. I will give the hard reset a shot once i get back home, but i am thinking that it may be a lost cause do to system backups created and restored to.

Oh, ok. No, it will go back to a fresh flash of whatever ROM you're on. It will NOT flash you back to stock, unless of course you're already on a stock ROM.
Like I said, it just wipes the phone and starts back from when you initially flashed that device. If you want it to go back to stock, you have to reflash stock. If you want to relock the device (undo hSPL) then you have to relock it - but be warned, you won't be able to unlock it again.

As said, when you hard reset/clear storage your device all changes since the device was flashed are cleared and everything is reset to the clean condition right after the currently loaded rom had been flashed so basically everything is reset back to the way it was immediately after you flashed your current rom.
To revert back to the shipped state you have to flash the shipped rom.
