First, I suggest you remove the battery for a few seconds. Then replace it and immediately push and hold the Send and End hardware keys on the front of your device then while holding those down push and hold the power button until the message shows on the screen saying to factory reset your device and follow the instructions to factory reset/hard reset.
If your device won't boot after that you probably need to run task29 then reflash your rom.

I have a question related to this device. I had put some sort of device lock on my touchpro 2. This was a long time ago, and I am now on an EVO 4G. However, I decided to keep the touchpro 2 as a backup device. I know i was running a non stock rom (as I flash pretty much all phones i get). The question is, will the method used above work in my case? Can I get past the lockscreen by using the steps above? Please let me know, as I just want to have the phone usable for the furture. I would as sprint, but as it is not activated and has a non stock rom on it, i doubt highly that they will be of any help. Please assist, as almost all forums on this model seem dead.
Thanks,
Andrew

The hardware sequences are the same whether you're on stock or not... Good luck.

I guess my question is not so much geared at if the button combination will initiate a hard reset, but more on the effect of the hard reset itself. What I mean, is will it revert to stock if I have another rom flashed? I only ask this because in other instances where I had a non stock rom, and i wanted to revert to stock to take into sprint, I always had to flash a stock rom and never even thought a hard reset would return to fresh out the box state. Unless I am missing something, I am guessing that a hard reset resets the device to whatever it was initially flashed to. For example, if in flashing rom B you made backup of rom A (which would include its settings), then if you chose to restore to the backup you created, I am thinking that that restore point becomes your point at which the hard reset will bring you to. (if that makes sense). In other words, you will never go back to stock off a hard reset, but you can go to a fresh version of the rom you flashed, or in my case, probably a backup i created which has the damn security pin already enabled. I will give the hard reset a shot once i get back home, but i am thinking that it may be a lost cause do to system backups created and restored to.

Oh, ok. No, it will go back to a fresh flash of whatever ROM you're on. It will NOT flash you back to stock, unless of course you're already on a stock ROM.
Like I said, it just wipes the phone and starts back from when you initially flashed that device. If you want it to go back to stock, you have to reflash stock. If you want to relock the device (undo hSPL) then you have to relock it - but be warned, you won't be able to unlock it again.

As said, when you hard reset/clear storage your device all changes since the device was flashed are cleared and everything is reset to the clean condition right after the currently loaded rom had been flashed so basically everything is reset back to the way it was immediately after you flashed your current rom.
To revert back to the shipped state you have to flash the shipped rom.

help pls! troubles after flash :(

i flashed for the very first time on the w'end. I'm having a few issues... just wondering if anyone could help me please?
i tried syncing on active sync but couldn't get my contacts onto the phone (although i could before flash).
i forgot to hard reset after flash and I hard reseted the day after I flashed.
after i hard reset, i still couldn't sync. i only want to sync contacts and only have around 50-60 so its not a huuuge amount of ppl. i thought maybe it was bc i didn;t hard reset straight away so i flashed the energy rom again (sorry, idk if its leo or photon? its energy rom 23071 rhodium 21 october) and hard reset straight away.
tried to sync contacts but still nothing (it goes to 'sync' but stays like that ... i have left it for an hour but no contacts get onto the phone)
I also have some other probs that I just noticed this morning. I turned off the phone to try and get it to sync but after i turned it back on, it connected to data straight away. I tried to turn off the data connection but it wouldn't let me - it keeps connecting itself straight away.
I just left the data connection as is and tried to sync again but nothing happened.
So I just unplugged the phone. About 2 hours later I tried to use my phone but it was turned off!!! (I didnt turn it off again). I tried to turn it on, pressed the power button a few times but it didnt turn on so i soft reseted.
An hour later, tried to use my phone but when i tried to wake it up, it wouldn't go into the normal screen. (i could only see the icons at the top of the phone and the rest of the phone was black). I tried pressing the hang up button, the lights came on but nothing else happened.
Does anybody have any suggestions please?
Is it a prob with my phone or how I flashed or something that i may have done to it?
Sorry about the dumbass questions
I had a problem like this with my Touch long ago. Due to bad rom cooked by me (was my first attempt). What I did was put the phone on tri-color, and flash the phone with a working rom. Try that first.
sorry, what do you mean by 'working rom" like the stock rom? :S and if its not a stock rom how do i know if its "working"?
Also, how do i put the screen on tri-colors? sorry major newb here, i had someone on the phone to help me flash (amd it took nearly 3 hrs!)
Sounds like you have a bad flash. Download one of the stock ROM's & flash that. Than try a different custom ROM like either of the ROM's by NRG's/TwoPumpChump's/Monx's. I've tried all of these & they all work nicely. If this works for you try any other ROM you like. Maybe it's just the ROM you're using?
im using the energy rom 23071
i'd have to go to the library to download another rom (im on dial up)
can i flash stock rom and try energy rom again?
To get the Tilt2/TP2 into the tri-color screen you:
1. frmove the battery cover to gain access to the rest hole (small red button on the same side as you stylus)
2. Use your stylus to rest the device while holding the volume down button.
3. Keep holding the volume down button until the tri-color screen comes on.
Now you should be able to re-flash your device (I'm assuming you have run Hard-SPL on your device already).
Good luck!

You should... as long as you have you phone hard-SPL. While in the tri-color screen you should see "0.85.OliNex", if you your have hard-SPL and should be able to flash a custom ROM.
To me it sounds as though you have two issues.
1) as others have said you probably have a goofy flash. Redoing it with another is easiest solution.
2) When you load on a new rom you wipe out any relationship the phone has with activesync. Try deleting your profile in activesync and re-syncing. This is common with people who have also done a hard reset. If you have done this then refer back to #1.
hi guys, thanks for your help.
I reflashed - haven't had much time to use the phone so idk if it's ok now or not.
However, i'm still having probs with active sync i deleted it and made a new partnership, it will connect to my device, i can explore the contents etc but i cannot sync!!! when i look at sync results, it says sync failed. Severity : error
anything else you can suggest for me to do in regards to getting my contacts back on my phone (other than doing it manually lol!)
ok active sync is all good now
haven't used phone enough to know if its all good yet but looking good so far

Help Please!!!

I have flashed my at&t tilt 2 with core cell evo v1.2 & it was working fine for awhile but now my screen is just black i can hear the phone make sounds and all but can't see the screen at all i really need help fixing this as this is the only phone i have any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

yes i have done both and after the phone reboots i can hear sounds but i am still unable to see anything on the screen
Edit - I take that back, if it's still not working after a reboot
Have you tried entering the bootloader and re-flashing with the stock ROM?
If you can't see anything at all on the screen, no splash screens etc, even after soft-reset or entering the bootloader, then it sounds like you have a hardware problem (screen failure).

"PLEASE HELP"
It's a tricky situation. So if you hold down Volume Down (and keep it held down) and press the reset button, then you still don't have anything come up on the screen ?
How about if you try a hard reset, does anything come up then ? You can hear the phone making sounds, so it seems like it's just the screen ?
Putting the charger in doesn't help, does it ?
You could try flashing a stock ROM from SD card and seeing what happens.
You might well have to send it back under warranty with HardSPL still on. In that case, if it was me, then if they tried to say the warranty was void just because of HardSPL I would argue very strongly against that and ask them to prove it - e.g. how can HardSPL stop your screen working ? I don't know what country you're in, but in the UK I think our consumer protection laws would have something to say about that.

I've never flashed via SD, so I could be wrong on this. But I thought it was still possible. I see that the instructions (in the sticky on flashing ROMs) say to put it into the bootloader and "follow the on-screen instructions". I wonder if it's possible to just wait for a while and then press the appropriate key ? Though I don't know what the "appropriate key" is.
Perhaps someone who has flashed via SD can comment further, e.g. as to whether it's possible to do this without seeing the screen ?

man i really need to fix this maybe you can ask around for me since i'm new here & really don't know anybody on this board
I know it's frustrating, I'd be kinda worried if I had an apparently-non-working screen too. But please be patient, and wait for more people to see your posting. The folks in the US will be coming online around this sort of time, so there will be more people looking in and hopefully someone can help further.
Flash without seeing the screen
Enter boot loader even if you can not see the screen. You can flash your phone to stock then enter boot loader again and hard spl. I had a similar situation and was able to complete the process and warranty repair with AT&T no problems, or you can pay to have it fixed at an outside shop. I was quoted 150 and refused to spend that muck so I flashed the phone without seeing the screen...
I saw your post over on Sergio's thread but decided to answer you here.
You do have a blown screen, no doubt there. How that happened is not really relevant.
My best advise is to connect your phone to your PC and wait for the activesync connection to come up. Once that happens you know you have a good connection and can flash. Run the RUU (or exe) for your stock ROM, the on screen (PC Screen) prompts will let you know if it can't proceed. Once the stock ROM is back on it, follow the same procedure and put the stock SPL back. Then send it off to get the screen replaced.
Hope that helps
Russ

can somebody please help me i need to reflash my phone but i am unable to see anything on my screen when i plug it up to my computer activesync is not working so what can i do please i really need help with this
Flashing witout screen
Step 1
Enter boot loader mode (* Remove the back cover from the phone.
* Hold the Volume Down button.
* Use the stylus to press the reset hole.
* Or if the device was powered off, press the power button whilst holding down the Volume Down button.)
and attach to computer. (wait 30 to 60 seconds)
Step 2
Check device manager for HTC mobile sync under mobile devices.(Active sync will not work in boot loader mode)
Step 3
Flash using Rhodium CustomRUU on your PC. (use original ROM from At&T.
Step 4 repeat for Radio
Step 5 Use Stock_SPL_Restore_087.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131 repeat the process with it.
This should work it did for me. Let me know if you run into problems.

[Q] TWRP backup, now bricked

I posted this elsewhere, as XDA was in the blocked sites.
Only 3 hours left at work now though, and for some reason, all sites seem to not be blocked! (Who knows how long this will last)
So, long time android user here. Yet, for some reason, I have never, EVER done a backup.
Never needed to. Odds are, stock backups are online if you REALLY dun goofed, but I never really have data I care about between wipes, phones, and new ROMs (I would, but google backs up 99% of what I want backed up). However, only one ROM has 4.3 for my phone from a ROM maker I trust. However, since I put so much work into my current setup, I thought that I should do a backup, for once, since I was assuming the 4.3 build may have issues, I'd rather restore a backup then reflash, and spend a good hour gettings all my settings and app setting restored.
Info, before I get to the problem.
Optimus G for my phone, running on the Sprint network. I'm using a rootbox ROM, which is synced to the very latest kernals. Everything has been running flawlessly on my phone for a while now. I am using TWRP recovery, and the ROM is 4.2.2, with stock gapps (not that that matters, but I info is useful to someone). Also, the phone was at a 72% charge.
So, I start the backup, going well, although a tad slow compared to a wipe or flash. Then the screen goes black. I'd say the bar was about 30% finished in TWRP. I thought it may have been the screen going in to sleep mode, as it's done this when I leave the phone sitting after a flash, but alas. It was not. The power button did nothing. So I hold the power button, turn it off. Nothing.
Now here's the fun part. I CAN get in to the alternate booscreen. However, on my phone it's....just a screen. There are no options, and I don't remember anything beyond when getting it the instructions were "press down on the volume key twice and press power to enter into recover mode" which, does not work. The phone has been VERY weird at this point. When unplugged, nothing can happen at all almost as if the battery is dead. Sometimes trying to get into the bootloader the LED light flashes red, along with the "hard" key button lights flashing (what are those called? The hard keys on phones that aren't keys, but a surface you touch. I refraid from softkeys because that usually is talking about the NavBar). I CAN get in to download mode, but right now I am at work, and will be for the next 6 hours. Many, MANY sites are blocked here, and thankfully, tek syndicate is not one of them. However, I am very limited and no sources to download any software needed to fix the issue.
If no one has suggestions beyond using download mode, feel free to post those links. I could most likely find all that info on my own when I get home. I'm no stranger to android at all, although never.....dare I say it, bricked anything before. I assume this would be not that hard to fix with download mode, and I'm hoping that maybe someone has a link that works here at work, and can be used with these computers.
The alternate question, or, TL;DR How could performing a backup cause a brick? I was backing up using TWRP, for the first time, on 4.2.2 android and during backup, black screen, can use bootloader, and download mode, but will not boot into ROM or recovery, as well as no actions at all without being plugged in.
Thank you in advance!
If this post in convoluted, I'm basically asking why this would have happened. After that, any suggestions to fix it without using download mode would be good, but I will take download mode suggestion as either the site may not be blocked here at work, or I could use the link when I get home later.
sprint g(ls970,if i'm not mistaking) is different than e975/e973.
What version of twrp were you using?i know twrp 2.4 has some issues on restore, but never heard of problems at backup.
You could try tinybin, but not sure if it's good for ls970.anyway,since you are at work, maybe you should wait until you get home,to have acces to full resources.

Sometimes the phone gets confused about the battery. Plug it into the wall for a few minutes, then boot it to the bootloader. From there reboot to recovery and just let it charge.

Weird isuues

Just got my used t-mobile note 2 on monday.I am having issues with the phone where the screen will start scrolling on it's own and keep trying to launch media hub or the weather widget and then the screen eventually freezes and won't respond.I have downloaded the emmc program and my phone doesn't have the defective chips.I have done 2 factory resets and the problem still persists and happens as it is being reset.Any one know what could be going on?If i leave the sim out the phone works fine though.
Best guess water damage. Check the tabs. Also get a new sim.

Did another factory reset but before that deleted some apps i had downloaded and made sure to disable samsung media hub,gps and the weaqther widget and so far the phone has been fine.
Is it factory rom and kernel or has it been messed with? I originally bought an s4. Connected it to a shady charger and changed the polarity of the board. It was hard to get to take a charge and wouldn't hold a charge for very long. Went to have it looked at by a tech. Before he knew what I was there for he offered to trade me for a note 2. He looked my phone over and we swapped. Usually when people get rid of a phone it is not because they upgraded but because something is wrong. I dislike buying used for that reason. I have had ppl try and pass off water damaged stuff and all kinds of randomness. I always boot reboot and reboot and used phone before buying, Keep them there as long as possible to see if something is wrong. Ask a lot of questions. Usually when you purchase a used phone especially an expensive one such as the note2 you want to get what you are paying for and not duped into paying a lot of money for some ones broken mess.
It's factory original rom and kernel.

This may seem silly, but have you tried to clean the screen with a microfiber cloth? This same problem happened to me (except the weather widget part), and after a spray n' clean, it all got fixed.

It's simple as long as you have the ability to read through threads prior to flashing. 98% of problems with custom software installs is due to lack of patience by the flasher. Read alot, flash a little is a safe way to get started.

Not sure if I am allowed to post links to other sites, but check out: galaxynote2root.com. max has a tutorial for almost everything! Also did you do a full wipe? Whenever installing a new ROM if you get stuck in a boot loop go back to recovery and do a wipe again, also wipe cache, and dalvik as well. Hope this helps!
Flashed thw original rom image with odin but the original will jsut hang at the tmobile splash screen and never fully boot.I was able to flash the phone with twrp with odin and was able to use twrp from my phone to reinstall the jedix20 rom which does install and been working since. No matter what i do with the original factory image it will always refuse to boot past the tmobiole splash screen.

[Q] One M8 Stuck on Logo...Period

I am in need of some serious help. My AT&T M8 won't boot past the HTC logo screen and won't allow me to go into recovery or the hboot screen. I believe I may have wiped the OS on it; this is the only thing I can think of that makes sense. Furthermore, when I try to power down the device by long pressing the power button, it doesn't respond at all. It just stays on the logo screen. It was so bad that I just left it plugged in overnight and I don't have a clue as to how long it took to power off because I fell asleep before it did. If there's a video tutorial out there that someone has or simply a link that can show me how to install something via backdoor on this device, that would be great!

Recount as best you can, all the steps that got the phone to this point.
What were you trying to do when this happened?
Also, need much more info in order to help:
1) bootloader unlocked?
2) custom or stock recovery
3) custom ROM?
4) what hboot number?
5) s-on or s-off

Furthermore, when I try to power down the device by long pressing the power button, it doesn't respond at all. It just stays on the logo screen.

Hold power and vol up for several seconds to force a reboot. The moment the screen goes dark to reboot, let go of those buttons, and just hold vol down. Don't let go until the hboot screen appears.
Thanks already. I didn't realize I had to hold down the volume down button after it goes dark. It got me into twrp. I believe I should be good from here after I download a new rom to sideload. But to give you a run down, I was prepping the phone to sell it by wiping the data and installing the rom the guy said he wanted on it. When I was going thru the normal procedure to install the rom (wipe, flash, etc) that's when the phone started sticking on the logo screen. My assumption was that I downloaded a bad rom, so since then I've been trying to get back into twrp so I can load a new rom and finally was able to after you told me this. I'll report back if a new rom actually didn't help the situation. I only thought I wiped the OS because something similar happened with my Note when I was tinkering and that was the result.

If you need any further help, please answer all the questions I previously asked.
Good luck.

Recount as best you can, all the steps that got the phone to this point.
What were you trying to do when this happened?
Also, need much more info in order to help:
1) bootloader unlocked?
2) custom or stock recovery
3) custom ROM?
4) what hboot number?
5) s-on or s-off
6) did you make a nandroid with custom recovery?

So, it seems I'm still having the problem, even while trying to install cyanogen. Here are the answers to those questions...
1) bootloader unlocked?... YES
2) custom or stock recovery... TWRP
3) custom ROM?... It was a custom AOSP Rom
4) what hboot number?... 3.16.0.0000
5) s-on or s-off... S-OFF
6) did you make a nandroid with custom recovery?... It was erased
Any help you can give from this point would be awesome. Thanks again!

Failure to flash ROMs can often be solved with fastboot erase cache, then install TWRP by fastboot again. Update TWRP version, if you are using an outdated one.
Also, if you try to flash any ROMs based on Sense software beyond version 1.x (huge majority of them are past 1.x at this point) you will likely experience extremely long boot times (10 minutes or more) and broken WiFi due to outdated firmware. But CM should be okay.

It was erased, or you wiped it?
Okay. Do you suggest trying an older sense rom to see if it works? The last time touched the phone was when I picked up my Note 4, so I will look for something that predates that.
As for the nandroid being erased, I can only assume it was my actions that caused it to be deleted, but I don't recall intentionally doing it.

Sure, it couldn't hurt. With your current firmware, you will need a ROM based on 1.x software. There aren't a heck of a lot of those left. But there are a few. GoldenEye is one I can personally vouch for, since I was running it for a while back in the day:

But I would definitely recommend just trying fastboot erase cache and re-install TWRP first. I've lost count how many times suggesting this simple fix has helped other users here on XDA, when ROMs fail to flash.

Fair enough. Just FYI, don't do a factory reset in bootloader (in the OS settings or recovery is OK). On modded phones this may cause the internal storage to become corrupted. Nandroids have sometimes been lost this way. This may or may not be what happened to you. Just wanted to throw that out there.
Also, there has been the occasional occurrence of internal storage being corrupted, possibly by TWRP. It may not even have been something you caused.
