It is being reported the Siemens will either close and abandon its mobile phone operation or try to sell it off. The final decision is set for a Jan 27 board of directors meeting. Siemens inability to stabilize and make profitable its mobile phone operation are quoted as the reasons for the decision.
So maybe this was the real reason the Cingular pulled the SX66 off the marketplace. Given that Cingular relied heavily on Siemens for many of its phones, I am willing to be that Cingular got a heads up and decided to cut thier losses. Thank goodness that the SX66 has the rest of the Blue Angel community for on going updates and support as it would now seem that it is a total orphan from both Cingular and Siemens. Too bad as I have finally got my SX66 working really well.
David
Cingular is currently evaluating the Siemens Blue Angel (unknown designation) with edge support that can transition to 3G when the infrastructure is available. It wasn't that they pulled the s66 but sold out very fast and was already in discussions for next gen PPC phone.

Hello,
I am trying to decide what model to buy again, I used to have a PDA2K and ended up getting rid of it due to a bunch of Bluetooth issues, like crashing when trying to answer a call via the headset.
So I am giving my Treo 650 to my fiancée' and going back to the Pocket PC platform, I miss all the capabilities that I don't have with the Treo.
So, are most of the stability issues fixed with either the PDA2K and the O2 XDA IIs?
I really prefer the Black O2, but I want a stable platform, have there been any hardware revisions? will one be better than the other?
Thanks

if buying a blue angel in the UK, which version is the one to shoot for?
looks aside, (O2 looks better in black) which provider offers good tech support + software support over the others?
I hear O2 getting slagged on a regular basis when it comes to component replacements for example, particularly where whistling screen faults are concerned. does t-mobile or orange win out here?
I know the O2 asis rom is supposed to be quite nice but are people finding MDA III from tmobile or M2000 orange more reliable out of the box for example. are tmobile slow at software releases, are orange, who's tend to be better?
I've decided on a blue angel over a IIi but nothing hurts to poll for a bit of opinion and see which Blue Angel has advantages over other types. I've read the wiki and while I found upgrading my XDA 1 and cooking rom's for it doable, I don't feel confident thus far at repeating the feat on the Blue angel so am looking at an off the shelf blue one for now.
can people give me a precis of their experience here that allows me to make an informed choice.
thanks
I've always found Orange to be the best provider, last time I was with them they actually have people at the other end of the telephone who want to help. They also didn't charge you for calling customer services (which I just found out T-Mobile do. Cheeky bastards).
I'd avoid O2 if possible, but I think all mobile phone operators suck, so I'd get it from whoever has the cheapest handset/plan for you.
Upgrading the ROM means all the phones are the same.
Chris
I've had XDA and XDAII from O2 and CS was OK when you actually spoke to someone who knew anything about the XDA models. Billing was an absolute nightmare though!
I've had MDAIII from T-Mobile since last October. Customer services are very helpful (and Free). CS have spent hours on the phone with me when I've been trying to sort out problems with unsupported upgrades from the internet and have even phoned me back on a landline so we could tinker with the MDAIII and talk at the same time.
The device is very stable out of the box. Only upgrade so far has included the Blackberry client which I use constantly and it only costs £10/month for 50mb of data. They have crappy GPRS tariffs though.
I've got Orange C500 and never had any problems with CS, but then I've never really had any problems with the C500.
I think Orange is the best provider, the support is excellent, plus if you look at the orange developer site you can see whats happening.
But I bought the O2 XDA IIs (for the black) and unlocked it. I now run the i-mate 1.40 ROM on it, with the O2 Plus add-on.
Might be old news, but XDA Orbit has finally appeared on the O2 UK website
https://shop.o2.co.uk/ComingSoon
I'll certainly be looking to buy one!!
XDA Orbit
I spoke to O2 customer services at the end of last month and they told me that it would be available in November. I was a little skeptical and bought the P3300 from Expansys on O2 as they're not offering the Trion yet. From past experience I wouldn't count on it.
I should have waited for the o2 version, been a big fan since my EXEC. Although I was under the impression that o2's relationship with HTC ended along with i-mates. Very happy to see a HTC phone coming from o2, but I wonder will there be more to come?
Long live ASUS
I believe the HTC relationship has been closed off (with regard to new handsets).
Expect new handsets to come from ASUS (i.e. ZInc, Graphite, etc.) due in Jan.
Apparently someone in O2 Customer Service said that their spanky looking Artemis version was being released on the 27th of this month.
27th release date is correct.

Dude, Do ya know if this device is meant for the Asia market or not?
Coz I remembered here in Singapore, we had Dopod 818Pro instead of the Neo... which means to say only 1 brand will appear here, and that is Dopod.
Can only talk for UK, Germany, and Ireland, i suspect it will not be seen in Asia.

With reference to this Orbit review:
http://www.4winmobile.com/viewtopic.php?p=42938
There are 2 things that I'm puzzled:
1) Infrared Gate: IrDA 1.2, 115200bit/s (SIR/CIR)
I thought the Artemis doesn't have Irda? Is there a mistake in the review?
2) Bluetooth: Bluetooth 1.2
Pretty much everywhere else says its got BT2.0. This review mention that it has BT1.2.
WiFi support is present for both 802.11b and 802.11g connectivity, but unfortunately Bluetooth is still the older 1.2 specification and not the hoped for 2.0 which supports A2DP, etc.
That said Bluetooth connections to the Jabra BT500 headset have been clear and voice dialing is supported and works well.

LB, have ya tried A2DP on this device yet?
Thanks!
MasK,
Yes I have but only with the Samsung SBH 170 headset and it appears to work OK if a little limited in range.

launch date
I think this is always the same with a new hardset from O2 but i've just got off the phone with o2 select support and they reckon it's not out till after Christmas :-(
The O2 website is saying its this month.
https://shop.o2.co.uk/ComingSoon
Worth noting though that different service providers within O2 will choose to stock it at different times, so maybe Select are next year.
the O2 Orbit would most probably be released in other parts of the world except asia coz its released bt Dopod instead
LB,
I know this sounds crazy.. but does the device have glabal warranty?
Secondly, do ya think it's available in the Netherlands? It does seem better looking and more sophisticated compared to the stock Artemis, and I'm wondering what my chances are in getting that into Asia. Thanks!
MasK,
The warranty will be valid if purchased from O2, i guess you are asking whether you can get it repaired if you take it outside the UK? I am not aware of any plans to sell the device in the Netherlands, alough it will be available in Germany.
Cheers

So if O2 don't release on the 27th (this month), the same way I've moved last year from Orange I can move this year to T-Mobile which have the MDA III.
Didn't quite like the phone signal on the Exec anyway...but if they do release...and they have a similar price as T-Mobile, then it isn't worth the hassle. Can't wait till after Christmas...can you?
Well.. It's not abt waiting. In fact, I'm quite confident the new HTC devices (at least the Artemis) is gonna be released by end of this month during an IT exhibition. The thing is, the Orbit looks nicer than the original Artemis. It'll be real nice to have one here for the sake of uniqueness
Well, I in fact like the original as it's a bit...square.

Hmm.. yeah.. I do like squary designs.
It just seems that the Orbit has a better colour combination (something the Atom should have int he first place, instead of making it all black!)
Anyways, design-wise.. the Artemis is definitely better than the trinity, imho. At least they got out of the magician/prophet form factor.

Hi everyone!
I've just had my O2 customer services representative on the phone to confirm that next week I will have the XDA Orbit delivered to my office, so it seems that this time they have done they homework...
Can't wait to play with it!
Verizon has released the Touch Pro 2--which rocks. The device is not crippled by the carrier and if you're in the US and in the North East in partiicular (NY) there's no other network to be using.
With the every two promotion you can get the handset for $149. Really.
It ships with WinMobile 6.1 and is upgradable to 6.5 (means a ROM flash) but the 6.5 version (according to Verizon rep.) is slated to ship second week of November.
Questions I have revolve around:
1. Jetware mobile (I got the source code for this application for the forum); it's usually required for auto discovery and blue tooth stereo on Pioneer AVIC products. Anyone loaded the app on the TP2 yet?
2. SPJ Battery Performance Enhancement; anyone loaded this yet to see if it works?
3. Pocketnow.com Enable In-Call Recording
NCH Swift Sound Pocket TRx
Anyone tried in call recroding apps with this device yet?
4. Does the GPS sensor unlock cab that worked on the TP work on the TP2?
Thanks.
I intend to get the 6.5 device shipped rather than reflash (hey, it's only 6-8 weeks) but am wondering if others have vetted these apps and cabs.
Thanks.
