Verizon Rhodium Release (6.1 vs. 6.5) - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Verizon has released the Touch Pro 2--which rocks. The device is not crippled by the carrier and if you're in the US and in the North East in partiicular (NY) there's no other network to be using.
With the every two promotion you can get the handset for $149. Really.
It ships with WinMobile 6.1 and is upgradable to 6.5 (means a ROM flash) but the 6.5 version (according to Verizon rep.) is slated to ship second week of November.
Questions I have revolve around:
1. Jetware mobile (I got the source code for this application for the forum); it's usually required for auto discovery and blue tooth stereo on Pioneer AVIC products. Anyone loaded the app on the TP2 yet?
2. SPJ Battery Performance Enhancement; anyone loaded this yet to see if it works?
3. Pocketnow.com Enable In-Call Recording
NCH Swift Sound Pocket TRx
Anyone tried in call recroding apps with this device yet?
4. Does the GPS sensor unlock cab that worked on the TP work on the TP2?
Thanks.
I intend to get the 6.5 device shipped rather than reflash (hey, it's only 6-8 weeks) but am wondering if others have vetted these apps and cabs.
Thanks.

Blackberry and Qtek 9090

Hi All
I've been looking at getting a Qtek 9090 for a while now and I have seen lots of postings talking about the t-mobile mda iii supporting blackberry etc and maybe the odd posting where someone in the UK has got a xda2s or 9090 to do it using a particular rom.
Can anyone say that they have witnessed a 9090 with ANY rom on it that supports blackberry in the UK with Vodafone?
I'm really keen to get this going as it should be my ultimate device!
Thanks
Will.
Blackberry support has to be implemented at the provider end, as well as with the client software. Does Vodafone have Blackberrys?
Chris
Vodafone UK supports both Blackberry Internet Service (formerly Blackberry Web Client) and Blackberry Entreprise Server.
For BIS pricing Check Vodafone Blackberry Price Plan
As for the Blue Angel software, T-Mobile's Germany ROM supports the Blackberry Connect. Confirmation can be found here.
For a list of supported devices check Blackberry Connect. Scroll down to the paragraph that says Available Operating Systems and Devices.
Hope this helps.
I'm using Blackberry from T-Mobile UK. Using the ROM supplied by T-Mo UK Customer Services. It only works with their radio ROM, which means no radio upgrades possible. Push emails are great, but this version doesn't seem to be able to handle attachments (larger than a few kb).
Ok, thats all fine - we already have a vodafone BES server etc using standard blackberry handhelds and also nokia 6810 mobiles.
The real question though is - although t-mobile have got the MDA iii working with blackberry abroad (and with their radio rom) - is it possible to install their radio/roms etc onto the 9090 successfully?
I need to get the device (whatever I get) sim-free, and I am having trouble finding an mda iii sim-free in the uk...
Thanks
Will.
The T-Mobile ROM is available on this site:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Upgrades
The BlueAngel is available SIM free from eXpansys.com and I got mine considerably cheaper from justtelecoms.com and it comes with the BB ROM already installed.
JT also do it on 1 year and 2 year contracts
Ok, thanks for that.
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=QTEK_9090 is what I've been looking at getting
Can I presume that it is perfectly possible to install the t-mobile roms onto a qtek 9090 and then unlock to any network (as I'd need to use my voda sim)
Thanks
Will.
I beleive the Q9090 from expansys is already unlocked and yes, you can install any rom.
The JustTelecomms option comes with the correct rom already installed and they will sell it sim free for £330 and unlock it for only £15 or you can use the free unlock tool available here on xda-developers.
Can we all assume it will work? Yes.
Can we guarantee it will work? No.
I have bought the XDA IIs on this assumption. Due to lack of time the device is still in its box.
In the meantime I am still using my Blackberry 7230 but soon I will get my hands dirty and start playing with the XDA. If you're willing to wait a week or two then I'll let you know of the results.
I called justmobile and they don't take credit cards!!
Any other suggestions?

T-Mobile upgrade?

Just out of curiosity, where would the upgrades made available? From t-mobile, I mean. I thought it was supposed to be in the "My T-Mobile" page, but there is no indication of such upgrades (or any future ones)?
Is there anyone who has seen T-Mobile releasing upgrades for others (like MDA compact, etc etc). Or is this non-existance? (like in this case?)
Dunno for WWE but german updates/upgrades will be made available @ http://www.t-mobile.de/software/
For blackberry on mda2/3 they are @ http://www.t-mobile.de/business/blackberry/software
cheers
T-Mobile is so far the slowest upgrader in the universe......
You'll be waiting a long, long time.
People are actually considering bringing this issue to consumer organisations. The upgrade policy of T-Mobile borders on criminality.
No sarcasm here, this is a plain fact, if you want a rom upgrade, get it somewhere else.
Ah~ so, it is a good thinking-action to flash the ROM from T-mobile's to Jasjar.
Right now, I am still looking through google about T-mobile && update which only points to a dead link on Hewlett packard's pda upgrade.
So, I will stick to upgrading it as a jasjar instead of as MDA Pro. Thanks!
Correct! T-Mobile is slow on updates. I mentioned several software bugs I've encountered (Media player full screen, Windows Security update, freezes after power off, etc etc) to T-Mobile representatives and they replied that the MDA Compact had been on the market for 9 months and still had no posted ROM upgrades. Short answer: Don't expect update ROMs from T-Mobile any time soon. (Besides, they probably think posting updates promotes end-users flashing their own ROMs, which from their perspective is a liability; foolishness!)
I spoke with t-mobile tech dudes earlier in the week, and there is to be a compact release soon, and a pro one after that.
Time to learn how to cook roms I spose and create our own t-mob one.
http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/
This is where T-Mobile will post new rom updates, another way to get there is to go to http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/webnwalksoftware/
BTW the reason tmob takes so long to update everything (roms, hset range) is cos they like to watch other networks for all the problems happening and then fix those problems before release, ie before the 6630 was released on tmob the nokia test hsets sent out did not give the option of doing a network selection or changing from dual band to gsm, they waited for other net to have problem then sold newer version.
also what barnowl what do you mean by 'The upgrade policy of T-Mobile borders on criminality.'??????

Mda Compact III

Can someone tell me if the T-Mobile MDA Compact III is wi-fi.
I notice from other forums which state that this version is not wi-fi enabled
Shouldn't be too difficult to edit the registry settings.
Buzz, Maimach We need you, Help !!!
Doesn't look like it, it isn't mentioned in the manual.

The HTC p3300 has Wi-Fi standard onboard. Local telecom providers however, are able to choose if they want features like Wi-Fi enabled or disabled. T-mobile Germany decided to sell the MDA Compact III with WiFi disabled (maybe to boost the GPRS usage?). T-mobile The Netherlands decided to let the Wi-Fi feature enabled.
I have a dutch T-mobile MDA Compact III, Model nr. ARTE110, that has WiFi enabled. Bought it btw for EUR 209,- + 15,75 monthly fee, which makes EUR 398,- in total .
Maybe the WiFi feature can be enabled/disabled by tweaking the registry or using another ROM?
And does anyone have suggestions how to unlock it?
hi rjs_artemis,
can you give a link to a website where you bought it? is this offer also available for non netherlands residents? I am living in Belgium so that I might go to Maastricht and check that wisely
Greets
EDIT: Btw is the t-mobile in the neths in Dutch or English? regards
EDIT2: is it locked on t-mobile or unlocked?

I bought it at the T-mobile Online Shop, see here
other option is http://www.smartphonestunts.nl/index.php?tid=181
And yes it has a Dutch WM5 and it is locked.
As mentionned on the following link https://www.t-mobile.nl/persoonlijk...ab=Relax&ratePlanId=269&contractPeriodId=1030
the price of the phone shall be 239.95€ with a 15.75€ flex t-mobile abonnement and not 209,- like you mentionned. Therefore the total price reaches 428.95€ and not 398,-, reason why I asked you where you bought it.
Anyway price is still attractive but if you tell me the device is locked on t-mob neth, it doesn't worth one penny for my own.
Regards
btw for the old fellahs in here, do you know if pdaphones might be phisically unlocked like mobiles? I think it could be done but need confo
would be a nice opportunity then
T-Mobile MDA III
I had a reply from T-Mobile UK yesterday saying the UK release will not have Wifi.
However I read that the Wifi is all on board on the main Chip
Texas Instruments OMAP 850
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=cpu&id=a850
If thats the case then would another ROM not re-enable it?
Or do you recon it's a custom Hardware?
I'd like to stay with T-Mobile for Web'n'Walk but If i cant have the Wifi I'll go elsewhere
O2 I think is due to release the Orbit 27th Nov.
Might wait for that as I assume the package will be better that the ones Expansys is offering on O2 or vodafone with an HTC branded unit.

We are both right. T-mobile raised their prices for the MDA Compact III at the Online Shop. I ordered it last friday (03-11) for 209,-. On tuesday they raised prices with 30,95, so now it's 239,95 with a 15,75 contract.
Unlocking will be possible very soon. For example see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-282156.html
aye sounds promising
I'll wait before buying until I have some confo about that..
still the question of keef related to the wifi is really interesting... if any has made some tests on an uk or dutch t-mobile version..
T-Mobile Mda Compact 3
Ref Wi-Fi embedded in chip !!
Hi Guys
I have tried to perform a rom update on my Mda Compact 3 using the HTC P3300 latest rom but the compact was having none of it.
It appears to 'drop out' after 3 per cent stating 'incorrect device'.
This is not the usual "incorrect vendor id" so I guess updating with a wi-fi enabled rom is not possible
Why have T-Mobile skimped on this essential feature is beyond me !!!

Quote from that link
"All-rounder
The MDA Compact III is a fantastic all-rounder. It’s a dedicated navigation PDA with GPS and TomTom Navigator 6 software preinstalled. It runs on the powerful Windows 5.0 operating system. The Compact III is very user friendly as it has a mouse. Control the cursor with the miniature trackball and use its silver dial as a scroll wheel. Keeping up with your emails is simple and you can surf the internet with web‘n’walk. It has128 MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot for expansion, plus a two mega-pixel digital camera with zoom, flash LED and video capture, an MP3 player, FM radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB cable connectivity."

differences between O2 orbit and T-Mobile Compact III

Hello,
i was contemplating buying an artemis.
i was wondering what the difference between the T-Mobile MDA Compact III and the O2 XDA Orbit is?
i hav read that t-mobile does not support wifi on its model, in addition to that, are there any other differences.
i read that there is an SD card issue with the O2 orbit, i guess that applies to the compact III too?
any idea when WM6 for artemis will be out, will t-mobile,o2 provide it as a flash update? or will we have to get it from HTC.
i saw WM6 for hermes on this site, i guess that cant be used on the artemis?
Apart from the T-Mobile not having the WiFi hardware within the unit the other differences are minimal, the O2 offering has a darker coloured outer shell and has more rounded corners - otherwise its the same. To be honest I do not miss the WiFi on the T-Mobile unit due to the GPRS internet access with the web-n-walk package.
I have had no issues mith scrambled memory cards on either my HTC P3300 or T-Mobile unit, so I cannot comment on this.
Don't ever try putting any ROM on a device that it wasn't intended for, if you do this your nice new phone will turn instantly into a very costly wedge to keep your door open - a brick - Wait unit the official ROM becomes available before trying WM6 on the unit - Mike
thanks for the reply,
so there is no EDGE or 3G on the Cmpact III
you think there is going to be an official WM6 from t-mobile?
Edge Yes, 3G no, WM6 from T-Mobile who knows - it might happen but don't hold your breath - Mike
thanks for the response dude
seen screen shots of WM6, that would be real cool.
I use WM6 on the Exec and the Mini-S (thanks to this forum), its great but not that different to be honest compared to WM2005, when/ if WM6 becomes available I will switch the newer units to the newer OS but I certainly won't loose sleep over the issue - Mike

Here in the Netherlands WM6 for T-Mobile users will be availible at the end of july.
Btw, the Dutch version of the MDA Compact III does have Wifi. Guess we Dutch are just lucky.
Check the serveral Topics about WM& on this Forum, different Carriers have announced the possibility of them publishing official ROM Upgrades to WM6, including t-mobile and O2.
thanks for the replies dudes

New ROM for Verizon Touch Pro2 (?)

So after trying to use the Verizon 'Global Phone' for two months abroad and running into issue after issue, I canceled my contract.
Because I canceled due to living abroad, I now have the unlocked phone, essentially free (well; initial 199 cost).
What's the best ROM to have it just function like a normal 6.5 phone? (Working GPS and all?)
Is touchFlo a UI wrapper only for Verizon phones, I actually like some aspects of it a lot.
Thanks, hope someone here has flashed some other ROM onto this thing, there is so much verizon crapware.

This is your CDMA section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=517
And don´t forget to vote for Rhodium!
I am currently using the phone with an O2 (German) SIM so I am guessing it is using GPRS not CDMA..?
