Today Plugins Disappear and Reappear!!!! - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I am using a Qtek 9090 and I have the problem as described above. For some plugins, they disappear after doing something. Not all the time, sometimes.... You can see the space is there for the plugin, but no plugin viewable.
Then, when I tap on the empty place, it comes back.... I really don't get why!!!
Any solution?
Got this merely with my calendar and pocketzenphone!

Get a newer version (SE compatible) of the app which is disappearing from today. Cheers

we on Himalaya get this with BTProfile
maybe I should try one from BlueAngel
(hint hint : please post it DLL=\\windows\\Profile.dll) or is it already somwhere on this forum ?

It is pocketzenphone, which is totally WM2003SE Compatible and JGUI My|Calendar, also designed for 2003SE, so what to do about?

Which rom u use? I have 1.22.01 GER and dont have problems with pocketzenphone. Try usin pocketzenphonetray instead.

1.22.169WWE.... But most problems come from My|Calendar from www.jgui.net/todays
Could anyone try please?

I have also had the disappearing and reappearing problems with Wordlmate SE. It seems to happen every time I do a soft reset. Has anyone else seen this?

I also have My|Calendar disappearing, but none of my other plugins.
I just flip to the Phone and back to Today to force the redraw and it works, (until the next time). Probably W2003SE send a different notification to ::OnDraw, ::OnPaint that certain plugins don't interpret properly.
Hopefully it will get fixed soon...

I have purchased SKTools which has helped by allowing me to set the number order of the today plug ins. Once I did that the plug ins tend to appear and in the same place.
Other problem I still cannot resolve though is at time the Owner information is displayed in jibberish as if the font was not supported but I am using default.
Any ideas?
Ed

This has to do with many today plugins being poorly programmed, or rather that Microsoft provides very little information regarding how it should be done.
I found this helpful when I was playing around with my Today Programs plugin: http://www.cshonline.com/pocketpc/#ProgrammingAdvice
I strongly recommend my latest creation for making dealing with today plugins less of a hassle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=16831.

registry tweak; changing the Glyph cache (fonts)
I experienced similar problems with my QTEK 9090. But I think I have fixed it.
What I did is increase the Glyph cache (fonts) to 32768, the memory used to cache fonts glyphs, this allows you to use more memory to speed up the display.
Sometimes there is still a delay in plug-ins appearing, but now at least they always appear.
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
You can change the "limit" value from 4096 (slow) to 32768 (fast)
32768 will speed up the display noticeably, but uses more memory. I believe that 32768 is the max. value.

I have this same issue with Agile Messenger. Does anyone else have this issue with Agile?

New Universal ROM from i-mate - Experiences

After some tricks at another thread, succeded to unlock Extended ROM.
However, can't find there the usuall 'Config.txt'. Is it normal? Any clue?
the wm5 extended rom's do not seem to use a config.txt file. They use the autorun and setup files. If you add something to the extended rom, put Default_ infront of the file name.
But the process I prefer; is to use an old autorun and config.txt file. I think you can find an example in the forum of BTT's extended rom under a thread called my extended rom. Or look on the xda ftp site.
The old way still works great. I also use the config.txt to copy some sounds and files to the windows directory from my sdcard during reset.
But back to the title of your thread:
I am finding that the new rom is faster and more stable. Radio 1.09.00 seems better. IE and gprs seems a lot faster. Of course, I only kept 4 of the files from the Extended rom. Lots of the cabs in the extended rom add bloat and/or remove/modify settings that I did not want. Push email seems to work, not sure I like the new comm manager. Really don''t like that I can not start the comm manager from keyboard after the rom upgrade. But overall its an improvement.
I wonder how different the official release from I-mate will be from this test version?
Please help I am always getting CONNECTION ERROR
The Update software starts fine, nonetheless after the screen where it shows the CURRENT and FUTURE ROM version, it is stuck
At least Extended ROM 1.13.151 WWE from Qtek9000, still uses Config.txt method.
Just Autorun.exe (fileversion 4.15.0.0) is present, and it seems equivalent to the Setup.exe (fileversion 4.16.0.0) on the new i-mate Rom. The Autorun.exe is much smaller and from a different origin.
Maybe this difference relates to, how Qtek and i-mate aproach the subject.
Another topic are my fellings/experiences with this new i-mate ROM, that I'd like to share with you guys.
ROM Version: 1.30.68 WWE
Errors or Lack of implementation
Still not possible to rotate Camera (landscape / portrait).
Universal backlight button still without effect.
Battery indicator replaced the clock on title bar. It is possible to re-activate the clock at settings (Clock & Alarms) to display in all programs, but however it does not work when at Today screen. :-(
Device Lock plugin is a nice feature, however the ability to make a few settings would be very welcomed. For instance 'Lock/Do no lock' buttons.
Despite it is possible to answer a call from BT headset, when device is locked, it is frustrating not being possible to initiate a call from BT headset ('Voice Speed Dial' not called). However it is possible to repeat last number called/dialed.
'Press' and 'Press&Hold' button associations (e.g. As assigned with PowerButtons from OmegaOne Battery Pack Pro), get easly misleaded. It seems internal timers are not workig properly.
My wishes
MS BT stack to implement sending extra info to 'Caller ID' enabled BT headsets. So they can show Contact name instead of caller number only.
Ability to tap handsfree icon at phone app, to toggle handsfree profile, instead of doing it through the menu (old 'profile' today plugin from WM2003, would be nice too).
Somehow allow Activesync to store Contacts PPC specific information, like associated ringtones (ringtone name should be enough) on PC Outlook Contacts. So the information could be later restored if needed, by synching.
Most of them seem to be MS issues, and nothig to do with HTC, Qtek, i-mate, etc...
Except for the first two, that I believe to be HTC issues in fact.

Hope you back soon!
couldnt get MMS or a pop 3 to work.
WMP10 still plays 320/240 and fails to enlarge
Fn -> doesnt work....
of course the battery / clock on the today is one big screw up, but dont think this is an imate issue, more a MS issue
The new Comm Manager requires a full end task from task manager, not a simple stop. there is no help with Comm Manager, and no "intuitive" understanding as to what the other icons do.
No real additional functionality to the device overall in my view.
But much faster and who can therefore complain about the other stuff....
Actually, I think the Battery/Taskbar problem is an I-mate issue. NOT M$!!
o2 did that on their Blueangel. You have to remove the .dll the i-mate cab adds (by preventing it from installing in first place?) and edit registry to show the clock again
The comm manager is very self explanatory, so I have no idea what you are on about
I agree it has a few other problems, but at least the Uni is now a speedy lil devil and not sluggish

i've the same problem. I cant Unlock ExtRom!!!
No bluetooth STEREO.
And other minor problem...
I-MATE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?
As anyone noticed pocket outlook now checks you email even when you leave it on a sms or mms account! No more worrying about changing the thing back to email after every text message! nice!
I wouldn't know which .dll it is unless I got a hold of the CAB file from the extended ROM. With o2 it was called batteryinfo.dll and was in the \Windows folder, but also had a few Registry entries to go with it. To add the Time in the taskbar have a look at the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell
"TBOpt"=hex:12,00,00,00
Change 2 as follows:
0:blank, 1:time only, 2:date only, 3:date & time
However, I think this will only work once you remove the i-mate battery add-in.
Could you give me a complete Registry Dump of your Device? That way I may find the registry entry that causes the battery to be shown.
Thanks
The battery icon is a MS issue. I have nothing from the extended ROM installed and still have the battery icon. Don't waste your time looking for a fix in the extended ROM. There must be some registry setting that needs to be changed. I'm still looking too....
For those who can't unlock Extended ROM, read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42812&highlight=
Can't say exactly which sequence of actions made it possible, but it is working stable!
The main issue seems to be that Extended ROM folder, should have a name different of 'Extended_ROM' on registry.
I've used:
- 'Extended ROM' first and it didn't work
- than 'ExtROM' it worked
- and now 'Extended ROM' again. It's working!
At the it is even not needed to run the CAB to unlock. The registry tweaks are enough. Strange....

I'd be looking in the registry if someone gave me a dump of the registry like I asked. It is a I-mate Issue, because the Today plugin is not made by M$?
Here you have my registry dump.
Changing
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell
"TBOpt"
to 3 for example, displays time&date, but overwritting battery icon.
Defenitely it is needed to disable battery icon on title bar, and force the time to display also when on Today screen.
My most new annoying experience...
Everytime I delete some files from ExtROM that I don't want to install at hardreset, they reappear again after a softreset.
Even powering the device down, and waitting more than 10secs, as seral times suggested in this forum.
Maybe a silly question, but any ideas to overcome this?

Slow initialization before typing...

Hello everyone
I am a heavy texter and using black shadow...but my device is running slow. I have sktools and optomize the ram every so often, usually around 15-20k free...
but whenever i go to type a message or email, the app will open then take literally 15 seconds to initialize...like if i type it will miss a lot of characters...
it seems like the top menu bar is refreshing or something while this is happening. why does it do this? it drives me nuts everytime i need to send a message!
after 15 seconds, the message will write completely fine.
please help!
btw i have my kb backlight on all the time and the phone will only display 3 words after entering 4 characters...

If it is on every ROM you have tryed maybe a hardware problem with your phone, Shadow is the only ROM ive encountered this with. have you tryed Sleuths Varient: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308019 this is based on LSVW's last release, i have used this since release date and it does not have the strange keyboard slowing, or try the new LSVW release: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307951
these are the most stable ROMS i have tryed. also my point about the Shadow support forum was only coz the cook (Jasjamming) of the ROM requested that all questions and downloads of the ROM were on the Link i provided on my last post.
Personally i am waiting for Sleuths next ROM, they are the best!!
Try turning off the text auto completion or reducing it somewhat. I found with early WM6 roms that starting typing a text or email would lag due to auto complete - so I now have mine set to suggest two words after 3 characters.

HTCActivityLogExe.exe keeps using all my memory...

It started with NRG's rom redone by ricky & stylez... Thought maybe it was ROM specific... so I switched to NRG Latest version (not modded by rick & stylez)... and the same thing has started happening.
Whenever I try to open anything (messaging, celetask, commanager, etc)... I get a low/insufficient memory error)... sometimes the phone freezes up at this point, and I have to unplug the battery to restart it.
Sometimes if I get this error, i can still get into celetask, and end the "htcactivitylogexe.exe" and it frees up nearly ALL of my memory.
OMG same problem here lol
so i went back to Rickys, its good so far :]

For those who just want their phone to run without running out of memory every 5 txt's do the following:
Go to HKEY Current User\Software\HTC\Bootlauncher\Apps\HTCSlidingPane l and delete the "Module" key which has a value referencing the weather app. When you reboot, WeatherApp.exe, WeatherUpdateService.exe and HTCActivityLog.exe no longer load. Apparently they are all part of the weather app.

Several questions didn't found yet...

Hello All,
I've been working a few days now with the TP2... wonderfull device... Since i also used the TP and Qtek 9100 this is really great device... i have though some minor things...
1. The size, it's pretty huge... my iPhone 3G is a bit bigger though... but it needs time... Nothing to do about it, just the way it is... ...
2. Another thing is, i have been using the TAB key on the TP external keyboard very often when typing... but the TP2 doesn't have it... I found an .REG update from a person in Norway saying he added FN+T as a TAB function, but that only adds a TAB in space, not jumping to the next field... Anyone any idea how to make a real TAB functionality...?
3. Opera, i've updated Opera to the newest beta, but when restarting the phone it keeps starting Opera... The newer Opera is slower in starting the application, but when running it's faster and more responsive... Also when i uninstall the Opera i installed, the old Opera is not working anymore... So my questions are... Where/how can i disable it (i've been in the registry and HTC's bootloader anywere but no Opera)...? and Where can i get the "pre-installed" CAB file...? So i can reinstall that CAB file...?
4. When using the HTC TouchFlo contacts they are sorted as "firstname lastname". No problem, but when i select the letter at the most right so i can jump to names with that corresponding letter. It jumps to a very not logic point. When i select the letter Z it jups to names starting with D somehow it jumps not far enough. I have the Dutch TP2... Anyone noticed the same...? Or anyone made a solution for it...?
Thanks in advance,
Michiel

i have the same problem too. went to HTC customer care and they were surprised by the issue too. told them to log a case to address this, hopefully they did.
I don't have this issue on mine - the "jumps" on the contact list are flawless.
As to the size, it's only longer and heavier than my Dopod D810 (Trinity) - the TP2 is actually both narrower and thinner, only by a very tiny margin.

New TP2 user - several queries

Hi, first post here. I finally replaced my 6 year old iPAQ 2210/2215 with an HTC Touch Pro 2 a couple of days ago. I'd appreciate advice on a few points please. Hope it's OK to raise multiple topics like this? I also posted to HTC forum yesterday but so far no replies.
1. I make/receive relatively few mobile phone calls so I prefer to use the TP2 in a rather similar mode to previously. IOW, more as a Pocket PC than a phone. Am I right that the Today screen cannot co-exist simultaneously with TouchFlo3D - it's one or the other?
2. Assuming that's the case, is there some way I can quickly restore the TouchFlo UI when I do need it? Or must I go through Settings > Today > Items and re-check that box (losing all my other checkmarks)?
3. I can get to most of the TouchFlo features anyway from the Today screen. But one at least has defeated me: that nice Weather program, which I like a lot. Any suggestions on how to build a shortcut to it please, even if not with the fancy animation?
4. I'm concerned to maximise battery life. I can turn off WiFi and Blutetooth. Is it possible to turn off GPS when I'm not using it?
5. I've so far not found a built-in backup tool (like iPAQ Backup). Is there one, or must I use a 3rd party tool like Sprite Backup?
6. Is there an executable somewhere on my TP2 that will rotate the screen please? When I add Pocket Plus to my Today screen, that has such a toggle tool under one of its tabs. But, despite having only just paid for Pocket Plus (which I've happily used for years on the 2210/15), I don't think I'm going to get on with this latest version, so I need an alternative rotate tool.
Sorry for what's turned out to be a rather long first post!

1. Completely right, but you can use SecondToday (freeware) as a shortcut to the "old" today screen.
2. See 1
3. Stay with the Today screen in combination with secondtoday
4. No, you cannot turn off the GPS, but what helps a lot is to put the band of the telephone fixed to GPRS, not UMTS/3G/HSDPA. That saves your battery a lot.
5. No there isn't, you must look for Sprite, SPB or sunnysoft backup.
6. Try Flip-it, it works automatically with your Gsensor. Otherwise look for Gyrator or ChangeScreen
Hopes it gets you going
Re backup software. dotfred.net's pimbackup is a handy tool to transfer personal info and can be scheduled.
I am using Second Today.. works great!! love it!! Just like you, can't live without the WM today screen.
Thanks all, appreciate the replies so far. Will try SecondToday. I'm still experimenting with Today plug-ins such as Pocket Plus and PocketBreeze.
I have another query but will post separately about it as it's an application problem.

GPS is turned off all the time unless an application is polling it.
So unless you leave the GPS test,GPSToday, Google Maps, Tomtom, iGo or whatever running, it will be off.

Thanks labbbby, that's good to learn. My main app is Memory-Map, which I use for planning walks (hikes) and recording them etc. On a 6 mile walk the other day I was a bit disappointed to find that my battery was down to about 50%. So extrapolating to a full day's trek (say 12-15 miles) it would be on the limit. Reckon I'll have to invest in a spare.

Hi,
- I would advice you to use TouchFloDetacher, works better than mToday or SecondToday AND it has an easy softkey changer so you can switch easily between TF and Today
- My favorite weatherplugin: WeatherBugDirect_PPC_VGA. Works great but maybe not fancy enough (?)
- Rotators enough: there is a cab somewhere on this forum that does it by changing some reg setting: is better because all the others (i think) are separate programs that need to be running in the background using up mem!
hope this helps a bit ... (still a TP2 beginner myself)

I feel I must correct others:
4.- yes, GPS is switched automatically off when no program listens to the virtual COM port that they see (the driver monitors it), and started when a program connects to it.
It is also switched off in suspend mode, if you would like to log track with PPC "off" - see my program at www.madhacker.org that changes the way the driver behaves.

Ron: Turned out to be down to my stupidity. I tried to execute SecondToday.CAB from my PC! Installed OK of course when done properly from Resco File Explorer on the TP2.
But can you help me get it working please? I first ran the CAB while in TouchFlo mode. Should I then see any evidence of it on the main screen (purple, with large digital clock)? I didn't see anything obvious so went to All Programs. There I found 3 relevant entries:

SToday Settings
Second Today
I clicked the last and got an empty Today screen, with the left softkey 'Calendar' and no softkey on the right. I clicked that blank area anyway, as I couldn't find anything else, but that gave the error message "This file cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found..."
That mention of a trusted certificate is puzzling. When installing from the PC desktop I've been getting an alert about that and clicking Yes to proceed. But when installing from this SecondToday.CAB that didn't happen.

Hi,
- I would advice you to use TouchFloDetacher, works better than mToday or SecondToday AND it has an easy softkey changer so you can switch easily between TF and Today

Thanks Curehead. Not sure if you've seen my reply to Ron about SecondToday, but I'm having the same frustration with TouchFloDetacher! I'm sure it will turn out to be down to some basic mistake on my part.
I ran TFDetacher.CAB in Resco File Explorer while TouchFlo was on. Then, as I couldn't see any more direct way, in All Programs I found 'Hide TouchFlo' and clicked it. That gave me the error message "Unable to find TouchFlo Detacher Service". I also tried re-installing when in Today mode, but got into a similar mess there too.

I feel I must correct others:

AlCapone: Many thanks, I've duly installed GPSTweaker.exe which sounds exactly what I need!
If I've understood correctly this means that while using Memory-Map to record my walks I will be able to switch off (suspend) my TP2 to minimise use of the battery, yes? But I'm not clear how Mem-Map will still be tracking while the TP2 is suspended? Unless it does, there's not much point keeping GPS running?

1. Completely right, but you can use SecondToday (freeware) as a shortcut to the "old" today screen.
6. Try Flip-it, it works automatically with your Gsensor. Otherwise look for Gyrator or ChangeScreen

Ron,
I started with Gyrator but I'm totally baffled as to how to set it up. I read earlier in an article about it something to the effect that "Install the MS.NET stuff and the CAB and it just works." Not here it doesn't.
After reset I got a sort of setup screen I didn't really follow so I opened the 'Events' window only to get a complex settings window that meant nothing to me. I'm not normally this dense! Is it meant to be understandable by mere end users rather than programmers/developers?
Is there a reasonably simple step-by-step on how to set it up you can point me to please?
I was hoping for a program that would simply install itself and then either automatically rotate every screen or let me do so at the tap of a command.
I'll try Flip-It now.
Edit:
Gave up on Gyrator and didn't try Flip It following further study. But instead I'm pleased to report that late last night I eventually got ChangeScreen working. The only one I found comprehensible!
BTW, its default was set not to rotate TouchFlo screens, so I had to change that. Why would that not be generally regarded as desirable please?
