Start Menu & O2 Connect (XDAIIs) - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Does anyone know if there any way to get the O2 connect icon out of my start menu without voiding the warranty?
I really need the space.
Thnx

I don't have the O2, so I don't know what icon you are talking about.
But if you open file explorer, icons in the Start Menu are located under
\My device\Windows\Start Menu
Deleteing a shortcut there should not void your warranty and removes the icon.

thnx! that did it. (I thought it would have required a ROM hack)

can i just delete att icons?

I just started over on my hermes, and would like to know if I can just delete the att music(and other att crap) program from fileexplorer:Mydevice\windows\start menu\programs\AT&T Music
if I could delete from here and get the icon off the start menu that would be great. I would like to delete other att icons as well. If anyone has done this before could you give me heads up to problems that may arise.
Thanks,
Nicholas
P.s i did do some searching.
You can delete the icons no problem. The programs will still be on you system just no icons to link to them any more.
the \windows\start menu folder is a personal folder indeed which you can customize the way you want and which leads to customizing the Programs folder on your Start Menu
PS ignore the "file delete of a system file popup confirmation"

But this wont be permanent will it? - i.e. I never want any listed at all.
When WM don't see any shortcuts in above folder, then it wont create recent programs list
Disabling recent programs in Start Menu
Does anyone have a registry fix for this. I don't want to loose everything from the Start Menu|Programs folder. I just want to permanently stop recently used programs showing in the start menu.

You will not loose anything if you create a folder (e.g. /Windows/Start Menu/Main) and move all your shortcuts inside 'Main'...

The result of this is that I have unused 'Recent Programs' and 'Programs' items on my Start menu and everytime I install a new program I have to manually move it to the 'Main' folder in order to disable recently used programs showing in the Start Menu.
There must be a more elegant registry solution to this.

Since today, I haven't heard for another way to manage it.
Hope that someone knows for a better solution.
Problem solved. Delete registry key (and all sub keys):HKCU-software- Microsoft - Shell - TaskSwitch.
Then soft reset device immediately, don't even close registry editor before resetting.
Viola!
Doh!
Ok, this only clears the recently used items list. It will repopulate.
Back to the drawing board.
I bit the bullet and purchased ($9.99) WisBar Advance 3. This does the job and has a number of other nice Start Menu related features. Works well with Dutty's Xtreme 2.3 ROM.

HTC Touch Pro 2

Dear XDA Forum visitors,
i got the TP2 yesterday. Now i have an important program on my memory sd card. I want to create a fast way in the menu "start" to go to the program.
Instead of going to the "verkenner" (discoverer?!?) and then go to the right place on the sd-card. I hope there is a faster way to go to the program, but i dont know how.
plz help!
Go to the verkenner , look up your program then tip and hold the file until the context menu appears. Select Copy. Then goto \Windows\StartMenu (the folder will probably labeled different in your locale), tip and hold on an empty space and select "Insert Shortcut" (will again be labeled differently for your locale). This will place a shortcut to your application into the start menu. Then you can select it with Start -> All and you can of course assign it to one of the shortcut buttons.
you can also make a lnk file but that wont be as fast unless you already know how to make one

tried this to create a short cut for my storage card and get an error message
either not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cant be found
how can i get around this
thanks for any help
I have the same problem
I have tested it on two differnet devices.
Even if I create a shortcut to a blank folder I get a certificate error.
Any help would be appreciated.
Shaya
It can be that the program is uncertified or has a bad certificate. In stock rom's those apps don't work. In the coocked one's they mostly do.

Let us know if this solved the problem
I have not tried your fix as I have not yet done a backup.
I do not think this will solve the problem as when i switch to the original WM start menu the shortcut works. So it is something to do with touchFlo.
Just to explain you can recreate the problem yourself.
1. Create a blank folder on your SD card.
2. Copy and paste a shortcut to this folder in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
If you try and run this from the touchFlo programs screen you get a certificate error, if you switch to WM start menu it works fine.
to switch to WM start menu edit the registry as seen in Cabs,Tips,Tweaks etc
HKLM\Software\HTC\EnlargeMenu
EnableManilaStartMenu =
1(orginal TF3D startmenu) / 0(old WM startmenu)

Can I stop the Airtime Provider installing widget?

Does anyone know how to stop the Airtime Provider from installing a link in my Windows/Start menu/Programs folder so that a widget appears on my Programs screen? If I delete it, it re-appears. Thank you.

You can't actually remove the program, but you can unlock the shortcuts you see so you can delete them (and they'll stay deleted). It involves some registry edits, but I've attached a .cab that should do that for you. Copy it to your phone (I suggest to the storage card), and run the .cab from there. It will make the reg changes for you, and then you should be able to go to start-programs and delete the shortcuts to whichever of the carrier-provided apps you don't want to use.

Thanks for this.
Actually I am using an unlocked GSM phone in India and the Airtime Provider keeps installing a widget to access it's services. I don't think there's any program there. I CAN already delete the shortcut and it stays deleted until the next time I switch on the phone when the Airtime provider seems to reinstall it. So I'm wondering if this CAB is the answer or not.
Can you tell me what it does exactly as I don't want to change anything else. Does running this CAB give the option of what to uninstall? But as I say, I am already able to uninstall it. They keep reinstalling!

Internet link/icon in TF3D

I'm running the stock ROM (with a few cabs installed) and just got my internet working the way I like it. The issue I have is that when I launch the internet browser from the TF3D internet icon it will always default to att.net, even after changing the homepage within IE. Is there a way to change the default page for this?
Thanks in advance!
Anyone have an suggestions/comments on this?
Re: Internet link/icon/homepage
Sounds like something in the registry that defaults it all the time. If you have Total Commander or PHMEdit (or any other registry editor), you might have some luck in locating the persistent URL.
(steps on Soapbox) I'll never understand why the Death Star company insists on both bloatware and total domination of your phone settings...(steps off)

My TP2 is from Sprint, and it comes stock with IE mobile, of course, but when launching internet through TF3D, it's actually launching Opera Mobile. Don't know if it's the same in your case, but if it is, you'd have to change your homepage in Opera settings. Hope this helps.
This has been described previously. You need to edit an XML file.
1. Use Resco Explorer or Total Commander on your phone and navigate to Application Data/Manila/InternetPortal-en-US.XML
2.Copy the XML file to your Storage Card
3. Transfer file to your computer
4. Hold down right mouse key and click on properties and un-tick the attribute read only,
5. Use notepad to open the XML file and change the entry NavigateURL=att.net to whatever you want.
6. Save the file and change attribute back to read only
7. Put back in your Storage Card and then move to Application Data/Manila on your phone.
8. Reset your phone.
