GSM and GPRS at the same time. - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

Can the Blue Angel have a GPRS data connection and a GSM voice connection at the same time? Are there any devices on the market that support this? I seem to remember reading a post that mentioned a Class 10 GSM radio was needed for this type of scenario.
Thanks for your help? -Chris

How to distinguish between GSM and GPRS?

I made a program to obtain band strength values mixing tstril and some instructions posted in this forum. Now I pretend to distinguish between GSM and GPRS, because if GPRS is not connected it returns a GSM value.
Any ideas?
P.D.: if possible, does anybody knows how to measure GSM when GPRS is active. All of this was made using the functions shown in ril.h
Thanks.

Using GPRS and Phone at the same time (O2 IIs)

I've had all three HTC products and really love the IIs. I also have a T-Mobile branded IPAQ 6315. On the IPAQ, I'm able to use GPRS to surf the net, and at the same time I can place calls, which is really helpful because I can view the screen while surfing and have the speaker-phone on so I can talk and look at the screen at the same time.
When using the IIs, I'm only able to use one at a time, or so it seems. Does the IIs have the capability of using both at the same time like the IPAQ? The IIs I bought has never been locked and was purchased new.
Thanks for your help, I live in the States.
Good question...
Any answer...
Come on we can't let HP beat us on this!
Hi,
well, this kind of feature will most likely never be available to an XDAIIs/MDAIII. What determines whether that is possible is the class of GSM chip being used. The iPAQ 6315 appears to be using a Class A chip, whereas the XDAIIs/MDAIII seems to have a Class B chip (http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/gprs/class.shtml).
Treo
It only works after the page is finished loading.
Is your HP a CDMA version orGSM?
On GSM, you can't do GPRS and Voice at the same time - GPRS is suspended. Technology limitation.
UMTS you can, and I think CDMA2000

As said above: http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/gprs/class.shtml. You can with Class A.
On my motorola phones the phone rings and the gprs stops. On the pda2k it just merrily keeps working and the phonecall goes to voicemail.
This is something I'd actually like to turn off as I prefer being interrupted if someone is trying to get hold of me.
Anyone know how its done?

Very clever - this is a TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION.
Can you name ONE device that is GPRS Class A?
For the other user - GPRS has been setup by most operators to be a secondary service, or in other words, a GSM call should go through. The only time this won't happen is if you are intensely receiving data for >2s, eg like during a mail sync or ftp download, where the GPRS modem is going flat out
it doesn't work
I used to use it with t-mobile on the 6315, and costumer service told me that it will never work, hardware limitations!
In fact every time i was online, I will miss calls and the will go to voicemail, not even ring!
I was hoping for it too!
   I am looking for the same answer as well. Is there a settings on the IIs so that I could either take the call or deny the call while I am on GRPS session?
With the SE P910i it will do that with some tweeking on the connection name that may be specific to my operator (FIDO).
I used the following connection name on the P910i everything works perfectly afterwards:
<account name>
However, the PocketPC OS do not like <> characters in the connection name.

Sony Ericsson P900 (my previous phone)
If you put GPRS/GSM on auto it quite happily let you do both at once. Occasionaly it warned you that outgoing phonecalls would suspend GPRS and likewise it dropped them on incoming calls, but 95% of the time I could surf+talk at the same time :-(

How to re-enable GPRS for HTC Twin1000 (T5399)?

Hi, guys,
I got a HTC T5399 which is said to be Twin 10000, this dual mode phone is on the China market, customized for China Telecom CDMA2000 network, although it also supports WCDMA at the same time according to its brochure.
My problem is that GPRS functionality is disabled deliberately by the manufacturer when I want to use it under WCDMA network with my UK O2 sim card. Of course the voice calls are fine under WCDMA as it's supposed to. When I attempted to establish a new Internet connection, the options of line types are only three types: cellular line, bluetooth and Hayes modem on com port, there is no option of GPRS cellular line available as normal WCDMA 3G phones do. I tried to set up the connection with cellular line anyway but failed to connect to the network.
After googling on the Internet without any progress, I finally have to come here for help, as this website is for the best WM experts in the world. If I can not get it solved with your guys help, I don't think it's possible to sort it out anywhere else.
Thank you very much in advance for your kind support!
Sorry, forgot to let you know, the above device OS is WM6.5, details are
Windows CE 5.2.21869 (Internal version 21869.5.0.82)
Desperately awaiting feedback.....
no solution???
sadly, no one knows?

[Q] wifi question

can i activate the "g" on my blue angel? its currently running on wm 6.1+manila by d-two..
G or gprs has nothing to do with wi-fi, your thread title is misleading.
you need to open the connection settings and set up your internet connection, according to the data, you receive from your carrier. usually, if you don't know, where to find those things, visit your carrier's website and search it for "gprs settings" or 3g settings or umts settings and you will find the information you need to set it up.
alternatively, have a look around the forum for the ADC.cab that is the program for Automatic Data Connection. it reads, what kind of sim card you have inserted and offers you corresponding carriers to choose from and configures the internet connection automatically, assuming that your carrier is listed.
but be aware of the fact, that because this has nothing to do with wi-fi, the internet is not free. you have to pay network fees to your provider, because you use a sim activated mobile internet connection, that is also pretty slow, because the blueangel only has GPRS and not edge, 3g or hsdpa.

hi chef tony thank you for your reply..and sorry for the confusion..im asking is about how to activate "g" on wifi because by default it only has 802.11b..is there any possibility?thanks again!
oh, i see. you were talking about wlan 802.11G. my answer was not very helpful then
unfortunately, it is impossible to unlock wlan G. just like sdhc cards, no one ever found a leak to create a driver. and even if there was a driver for that, you would only gain the ability to connect to wlan G networks, but there would be no speed improvement, the wi-fi on the BA is limited to 11Mbit
oh i see. thank you for your quick reply chef tony!

Vodafone Australia PERTH 3G signal poll

I noticed a few users here in PERTH on Vodafone are having issues with 3G, some may not know they have them, but the result is the same.
Calls going direct to voice mail
Dropped Calls
Failure to Connect
There are others but these are the first indications.
My initial test is to dial either 1555 or 1512 and see if it connects.
My settings are auto on GSM/WCDMA, if I then switch to GSM only the phone works OK
My main use is in post code 6027
I am using this radio 12.35a.60.140f_26.04.03.30_M
May be worth the poll to see the numbers?
I'm using Optus, but had a similar experience at Perth Airport with my phone refusing to connect to the Optus network. Setting it to GSM only solved the problem.
