Getting rid of O2 Active on XdaIIs - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi all,
Just received my XDAIIs. Overall impression so far is good. One thing I can't stand though is the O2 Active software. I have never liked it. It was easy to disable this on my XDAII - I just moved the application from the Windows folder into a temp folder and did a soft reset. However on the IIs there is no O2 Active icon in the Windows folder so I'm unsure how I can disable. Any ideas?
Cheers
Carlton

a good place to look for autostarted programs is \windows\autostart

I don't seem to have a \Windows\Autostart folder but I do have a \Windows\StartUp folder. Is that what you meant? The contents of that folder are:
aPerSaveStar
Camera_Dete...
CheckAutoRun
ChgDfLnk
Connections
cPerSaveStar
nPerSaveStar
poutlook
RegNotify
Run_BTTrayC...
STK
tPerSaveStar
I'm not really sure what any of these files does. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Cheers
Carlton

yeah thats was the dir i ment
what i would try was to copy all those files to your pc
and view them in a text editor to see what they point to
and so find out what they are and remove the one which point to that o2 thing
or if the program is installed from the extented rom i would think it would be possible to go to remove programs in system and find it there and then remove it untill your next hardreset (unless you remove it from the extented rom)
another path would be to get a registry editor and search and destroy it's settings
sorry i cant tell you 100% how to do it since i never had the program on my device
maybe somebody else will stumble across this thread knowing how to go about giving it the axe

connections is the link that starts the connections manager app. The o2 symbol in the middle top. Delete that from your startup and it will not start after a soft boot then.

Getting Rid of O2 Active
On first time installation or reistallation of the XDA -
Choose Corporate -
On the code wanted type in 0506 -
That should give you the Windows Pocket PC look back ...
Cheers

no, tried that already. It's still starting. Is there a run section in the registry just like a dektop windows?

Looks like i got rid of it now. I removed the o2active shortcut from the windows startupscreen as well as removing "connections" in the windows/startup folder and rebooted for the second time.
I can actually keep the o2 battery indicator if i like. It doest seem to do any harm...yet.

Did I miss something here, why not just uninstall O2 active from the "remove programs" icon under settings (the program name is something along the lines of o2active_UI). It won't reappear after a soft reset then but will after a hard one.

It fails during unistall because of active files but yeah that should be possible if you manage to close all the active components first. But then you lose the battery plugin as well.

There are better battery plugins out there....
And fro my experience you could unisntall o2 active on an xda II while it was running, with a couple of folders being left over as a result... but with o2 active gone all the same...

thanks for the corporate code saks, just what I was after!

Anybody know which unlucky corporate client got their 0506 code leaked onto the web?

Uninstalling O2 Active on the XDAIIs

How the hell do you do it? - It not compatible with spb pocket plus.
If I attempt to uninstall it throws an error, saying it is running, but there is no process in the task manager to stop.
Help greatly appreciated.
Rich
to stop it from running, i've just deselected it from the today plugins (start / settings / today / items), which seems to have done the trick.
Thanks - but I am trying to get rid of the O2 icon on the top menu bar.
I can move it from left to right but not uninstall it!
Any ideas?
ok here is all you have to do goto the startup folder in windows directory and remove connections from the folder this will not remove active but will stop the anoying o2 icon personally i like the very simple battery indicator and the profiles so i kept it alternativly you can ditch the whole of active by hard reset and use the Coperate option the password is in another thread think if i remember it is 0506
just checked it is that ..
A perfect answer many thanks

MDA Pro Ext Rom 1.12.126WWE Cab List (updated)

Here's a list of all the cabs that are installed on an MDA Pro. I am trying to find out what they do. Most of the ones I have filled in are thanks to 'Dingo' who has done this for the XDA Exec extended rom.
Signed_UNI_TMO_WiFi_SSID.sa.CAB
Adds a load of hotspot SSID's to 'Configure Wireless Networks' in settings
Signed_SSD_Shortcut_WWE.sa.CAB
Links for sim card manager and enroller
Signed_Service_Icon_Order.sa.CAB
Unsure - perhaps defines the preference order of networks when roaming? Could not see any changes after installing.
Signed_UNI_TMO_Connection_112100.CAB
Adds connection 'T-Mobile Internet' and 'T-Mobile Internet CS' to settings-->Connections. CS=Circuit Switched Data, ie 9600bps
Signed_Disable_GPRS_Autoattach.sa.CAB
I believe this causes that horrible 'are you sure' dialogue every time you try and go online.
Signed_LongDTMF.sa.CAB
Under settings, personal, phone, keypad, sets the keypad option to 'long tines'
Signed_UNI_TMO_UAProf.sa.CAB
See link at end (XDA Exec thread on same subject)
Signed_USIM.sa.CAB
Unknown. Did not notice any changes
UNI_BrowserPerformance.sa.CAB
I assume this speeds up browsing! Perhaps setting cache settings, I dont know.
Signed_Version.sa.CAB
Sets the version no for the extended from in the device information
Signed_UNI_TMO_Setting_111100.CAB
Pah, dunno!
CAB-Customization-TMUK-Universal-01-03-04Aug05.CAB
Adds T-Mobile MMS Settings
CAB-DATEmail-Universal-TMOUK-22Ju105-DataBase.CAB
Localisation settings, I believe (makes clock 24hr)
CAB-Shorcut-TMOENU-08Aug05.CAB
It also sets up outlook to have an MMS account. If you want MMS, then you'll need this (pitty you get other ****e dragged along with it tho!)
It also sticks a link for the elatepushservice (what the heck is this?) in /windows/startup. This link will fail to load anything since the files are installed as a part of the cab: TMO_UK_UI_0727_signed.CAB just remove the shortcut!!
While you're at it, kill the sddeamon file in startup also. This is the thing that mythers you as to whether you want to view the pics on an SD card when you insert it.
Dont kill the pocket outlook shortcut tho - doing so will mean that pocket outlook has no MMS folders.
This also installs the links 'clearvue PDF' and 'EmailWiz' Again, the targets of these links are installed as part of TMO_UK_UI_0727_signed.CAB so trash the links if you are not interested in these features.
Enable_VT_RTPlugin_0727_2_signed.CAB
Registry changes and XML settings see XDA Exec thread, link @ end. Read elsewhere that this adds/enables the video call functionality.
TMO_UK_UI_0727_signed.CAB
Files For T-Mobile plugin & Other stuff 'elate push service' etc
TMO_UK_UIShortcut_Plugin_signed.CAB
Shortcut for t-mobile today screen plugin (so it appears in 'items' on today screen)
TMO_MMSNotifySound_0805_Signed.CAB
Sets the sound for a received MMS ;-)
TMO_UK_pIE_0807_Signed.CAB
I assumed that this set Pocket IE home page, but it does not appear to do a thing!
TMO_pIE_HardKey_0810_Signed.CAB
Makes the (t) button on the keyboard point at PIE with tmobile home page
TMO_Streaming_0729_Signed.CAB
I had assumed that this added the Streaming icon to programs, but it seems not!
XDA Exec Thread On Same Subject: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32527&highlight=extended+rom
I'll install the cabs manually when I get time and see what they do.
Note: I installed the imate rom (soft resetting before the imate ext rom got installed!) and then went through the Tmobile ext rom clicking each in turn in the install order from the config file, reporting the results above.
The t-mobile theme comes from the file \windows\t-mobile-tsk, this is loaded as the default theme. Its the first thing the t-mob ext rom does when it installs. I did not install this (dont have the files) I dont know whether some of the later cabs rely on this being present or not (as you'll see above, some of em did not appear to do anything...!)
If someone could post the file /Windows/T-Mobile.tsk I would be most grateful!
I also noticed that in the email app, no MMS account has appeared. But I do have the MMS server defined!
I'm gonna reset again and see whats in the imate ext rom!
Nigel
TMO_UK_UI_0727_signed.CAB
Files For T-Mobile plugin & Other stuff 'elate push service' etc
push service is what is used by tmob for their instant email - blackberry service, i've checked into this and found that service not avail with mda pro yet, but when mda 3 came out not avail with that at start and now with further rom update does
TMO_UK_pIE_0807_Signed.CAB
Looking at the contents for this it appears to set up PIE favorites, also seems to be some sort of PIE plugin for t-zones added to the registry too. If you remove it from the Extended_ROM and hardreset are the shortcuts to t-zones etc. set up in PIE favorites? Don't get my MDA pro until next week so can't try myself.
VELETRON YOU are the BEST!
How bout examining 1.30.77_1.76_1.09.00?

Uninstalling MS Voice Command

Does anyone know how to uninstall this? When i try to do it on the phone or over Activesync I get a warning message that it could not remove all of the program and ultimately the entire program is still installed. It takes up too much room for what it does (and I think there's a battery issue with it as well) Thanks

Try using the Uninstall application of this program: http://www.dinarsoft.com/memmaid/ Once the program is uninstalled, just delete the remaining folders and then run the Quick Clean and that should remove all remnants of the Uninstalled program.
Thanks. It helped to remove mobitv and xmradio which were entirely useless to me and took up a lot of room. However, when I tried to uninstall memmaid it left a few bits behind - there are folders remaining in the program directory... in fact the MobiTv icon still exists in my program directory leading me to beleive that it's just deleting a folder and not removing the program from my reigstry, etc. It's a start though. Thanks again
Re: uninstall
This may be a silly question, but was VC cooked into the rom originally or did you install it yourself? If it was cooked in you will not be able to remove it. (As is true for any cooked in application.)
Best wishes,

Quick question; when using MemMaid, did you use the Quick Clean with all items checked? by default not all are checked.
Dead shortcuts
Dead Registry
Bad uninstall (files)
Bad Uninstall (Registry)
These are just a few items I would make sure are checked..
Thanks for the help guys. It was not part of a cooked rom and after checking the boxes on memmaid and rebooting a few times VC is gone (and 5 megs are free). After uninstalling memmaid (it's 900k - I can't keep that around ) it just left an empty folder called "Handyswitch actions" that I'm just going to manually delete. Thanks for the help. I was this close to deciding between keeping Skyfire and outlook

Sorry, during install of MemMaid you could of unchecked the handyswitcher and whatever extras you didn't need and they wouldn't have installed. Glad to see you has some success though.

You can't install MS VC to storage card and have it work correctly unfortunatly.
I've had same issue whilst installing MSVC to storage card and had tp install it to phone. I also had same problem trying to uninstall it. Luckily I wanted to upgrad my ROM which solved the problem
As I've been using my phone I learned there's a new glitch - if I use autocomplete to fill in text or complete an email address, etc it crashes my phone (I think pasting text does too). This didn't happen a day ago so I think there's a connection to the uninstallation of VC. I've reset it 5 times and it's always the same result. The screen becomes nonresponsive, switching to landscape mode takes about 45 seconds and doesn't solve anything and both the onscreen keyboard (Happy Tapping) and the hard keyboard fail to function. If I wait it out I can get the start menu to drop down and get to the Today screen but navigation is still brutally slow there and the email sits. I Use o2plus and it shows apps are running but doesn't state them (it's pOutlook that is frozen). Any ideas? I wish PPC had 'last good state' like Windows... thanks again

More specifically when installing to SC anything bluetooth related doesn't work.

Internet & MMS not working, after Tmobile settings set properly(?) (Tzones), RegEdit?

Internet & MMS not working, after Tmobile settings set properly(?) (Tzones), RegEdit?
I used a cab file called "tmobyjoe599" to set my internet settings on my 8525 flashed with Faria's 6.1.
I am able to get to google, but when going to any site like m.myspace.com, etc, it locks on "connecting..." and the circle freezes. I can close the IE app, but then the OS gets sloow, and it doesn't ever end the IE task when I attempt to. Short of a soft reset, the device gets frozen.
When sending an MMS message, it gives me a sending envelope icon with an arrow, showing it's leaving, with a progress meter that gets to 95% then stops. Never goes past that.
I was messing with some Regedit keys for the server for the weather app and may have messed something up that way. Is there a way to reset these settings short of a Hard Reset?
Is there a valid cab file that will set the Tzones $5.99 plan internet & mms settings for WM6.1 for an 8525? I see settings all over this site and others, but none seem to be in the right places/settings menus as my load?
Much appreciated... I read this forum constantly, but hardly ever post.
JT
Yeah. I have the cab for the 5.99 and the 29.99.
The 39.99 never worked for me so I don't use it anymore. The 29.29 version works perfectly for me. I like the fact they make the allowed mms size larger.
Here you are. Enjoy.
Oh yeah. In the future you probably want to do a search and it will show. I'm sure you'll get that response from many a veteran around here.
Please note, I have already used the tmobyjoe599.cab file (I have it on my storage card), and even after a hard reset, after setting this cab, this is when I experience the lockup issues. Running this .cab doesn't reset the registry server settings, does it?

I don't know. You may be forced to either do a hard reset or reflash your rom.
Use Pim Backup 2.8 to back up all your data and do a hard reset. Then rerun the settings cab of your choice and see what happens.
Your registry changes may be the problem.
did you use advanced config or any other app to change the IE cache/cookies location to your SD card? I have seen your exact symptoms caused by this.. try setting them back to the default location
Did PIMbackup. I'll ck advancedconfig program to make sure I didn't change anything in there... Been in there a few times, not sure if I did.
After that, if it's still not resolved I will hard reset, then do the tmobyjoe599 cab, and see if it works and report back.
I checked Locations tab of advancedconfig and the Default storage location for downloads, ie cache location, ie cookies location and ie history location were all pointed to sd card. I reset those to device, and will ck shortly.
Internet works now you guys rock.
hummm i need step by step i guess
I downloaded the cab file for my t-zones, and it worked..only problem was that its slow and certain web sites cant be shown, mainly web sites with a password like gmail and a few others, how do I fix this?

WM 6.5 lockscreen clock?

I couldn't find anything on this, maybe I wasn't searching correctly. If I missed the fix somewhere, i apologize in advance.
I'm running the HTC WM 6.5 rom with a few reg tweaks and every night since Nov. 2, 2009 [DST], the clock on the lockscreen gets stuck at 00:00 and won't advance to 00:01. It won't even change until I restart my phone. This is the T-Mobile USA TP2, if that would make any difference. I'm not sure I've messed with any of the reg files that have to do with the clock, so I'm not sure why this is happening.
I also tried downloading the fix ".cab" from Micro$haft and for some reason, I couldn't send it through bluetooth from my PowerBook G4 and my TP2. So then I tried downloading it in the mobile IE browser. No go. It downloaded it as a .tsk file, which, aas you may or may not know, is a WM theme file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated to fix this strange quirk.
connect the phone to the computer and select 'storage card' as access type on the menu that pops up on the phone then just copy & paste it over there (if your pbook supports copy & paste...sry just had to throw it in after ur microshaft comment ).
As for the clock, are you running a custom rom at all? If not, then do it, if so, then revert from it lol. I have no idea on that but I don't have that problem at all. Maybe try turning off touchflow and then turning it back on once the problem has occurred (go to settings -> all settings -> today -> items -> uncheck touchflow or sense, depending on rom, hit ok and exit, then repeat the steps to turn it back on.
Jason
I'm running the HTC WM 6.5 rom with my own registry edits in it. I haven't noticed it the clock doing this lately but I have been getting my sms messages and it says that they're actually received at the same time from two days ago. I'm really not understanding why it's doing this. This phone has done random funny things since I've started using it.
