When I try to send messages it tells me that an error occurred and that it couldn't send the message. I don't know how this can be, because it retrieves my mail, it just won't send it. ???
You mean with Pocket Outlook using SMTP? (You must be a yahoo plus subscriber)
I have the same problem and managed to trace it down to the following:
The built in SMTP program does not authenticate itself 100% by the book. Can't tell exactly but I saw in the server log that it did something funny after HELO.
This causes some mail servers (on the receiving end) to ignore the mail entirely or think it's spam.
I only have this issue with my yahoo account though. Others (e.g. gmail) work fine from Outlook.
Hope it gets fixed in WM6...
T-mobile has a work around.
1) Go to T-Mobile and setup a email forwarding account (Set your phone as a MDA NOT A Dash
2) Turn off email forarding for incoming
3) ON Dash - Change outgoing SMTP to: myemail.t-mobile.com
4) Change user name (Use different than login - because you will still login to Yahoo using the pop or IMAP server to your10digitphonenumber:1
5) password is your yahoo password
Also change NO SSL on outgoing, and outgoing requires authentican checked.
This is also required if you use the dash as a modem on your laptop. I could not sent SMTP Trough T-mobile connectiosnt o laptop, but could if connected via a wifi connection that was not t-mobile.

I didn't find any info this kind of problem what i have after updating mobile 6.
So i have email account on internet and i can receive mails to my tytn but cannot send any mail. i also try to start internet share and send mail with my computer but i get error what says "cannot connect smtp server" what the hell is wrong.
If i connect normaly my tytn to active sync i can send mails and receive mails with same setting thru my DSL. But with 3G or GPRS i cannot send mail. everything else is working and has been working before update to wm6.

You should be using the one from your internet provider, which - when
using your mobile phone as internet acces device - is your mobile

I use my DSL internet provider mail service, It has been working exatly with same settings before, and now i'm able to receive all mails from imap.netikka.net mail server but cannot send email outgoing SMTP server "mail.netikka.fi"
I can send and receive emails with my computer thru DSL normaly so that mail server should be ok. Something has to be wrong in wm6 settings some security problem maby.
The mail server is ok, but quite often one cannot access an smtp server
from outside the providers' network (sometimes access is possible from
outside with a logon and a password). This is a common security measure to
avoid their mailservers being used for spam.
So if you connect via a provider A, you can fetch mail from anywhere, but
you should send mails via the smtp server provider A has (regardless of
where your mail comes from). If you then connect via a provider B, you can
again fetch your mails from anywhere, but you cannot use the smtp server
of provider A; you need the one provider B has.
Try first using the smtp server from your mobile provider, if that doesn't
work it is indeed something in wm6.

Actually, the smtp stuff gives rise a problem I also want to warn you for... If you connect to multiple networks with your TyTN (e.g. wifi and 3G), you basically would want to be able to change the smtp server to suit your needs (e.g. on wifi you need the smtp server of your dsl provider, on 3G the one of your mobile provider). There is no mechanism foreseen in Messaging to achieve this.
As a workaround, I duplicate my mail accounts, but with different outgoing settings (most just go back 3 days or so): i have for instance "mymailbox (provider one)" and "mymailbox (provider 2)". Depending on the network via which I connect, I need to select the appropriate mailbox before choosing "new" or "reply". This way, the correct smtp server is used when I send a mail. It is not an elegant solution, but I haven't found another way. If you have an smtp server that requires you to log on to send mails, chances are you can access that one from anywhere.

Yes i have now that problem that in 3g network mail goes out but not my DSL wifi but i can live with that. But still it is quite weird that with WM5 my DSL provider smtp server works even 3g and wifi but not with WM6.
If you can log on to the smtp server, it could be possible to use it regardless of your connection.
Perhaps you can test it when you use your laptop to send emails, but connect via your mobile operator to internet. If that works, it ought to work with wm6;
but I doubt it to be possible without logon.

Agreed this is a flaw in WM6, shoul be possible to quickly toggle between different settings for SMTP.
I have the same problem, two years ago this was not an issue I could then use the smtp settings from our domain on phone and in office (dsl), this no longer works even with the DSL connection in the office we have to use smtp of the internet provider.
Is anyone else having trouble with configuring the Exchange Server e-mail to work on the Tilt 2 Phone? I know that I've entered the right settings for the server name, domain, etc. Unfortunately, though, I keep getting an error message saying "error synchronizing." When configuring via Active Sync, the specific support code that I'm getting is 0x80072EE7. I've tried everything else that I know how to do. Is there anything that I'm missing? Has anyone else had this problem and figured it out? Thanks for the help.
The only thing that I can suggest is to check the user name that you are entering. In mine it asks for the user name but it really wants the whole email address again. Good luck, I hope that helps.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I did go ahead and try as you suggested. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working. I tried several variations of what you suggested, but still nothing worked... frustrating!
Exchange Server Problems
AT&T is saying that I need to pay for a different data plan - more money, of course - for me to be able to access the Exchange Server. I guess the 40 dollars that I pay each month for data and text messaging isn't enough. They said that I'd need to pay them another 15 dollars, or so, a month for me to access Exchange Server e-mail. I guess it's different from accessing regular POP3 or IMAP e-mail. Does this sound right? Would I need to pay additional money, beyond the full data package that I already pay for, in order to access Exchange e-mail? There has to be another way, right?
No other way around it that I know of. You need an Enterprise data plan to hit an Exchange Server. The extra charge is probably due to the extra data useage of being constantly connected to the Exchange Server. I'm not saying the extra charge is justified. An unlimited data plan should be unlimited. But we all know AT&T has a different definition of "unlimited". It's just the way the great Death Star operates.

Weird...both my wife and I have the $30/month data plan and it lets us download from Exchange.
Try configuring the server via the Activesync. My company's email address and username (login name for your corporate network) are not the same and I don't think it prompts you during initial setup. If your company has a similar infrastructure as mine, be sure to enter your email address where it asks for that, and your network login username (not your email address) when it asks for the login credentials.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to see what the resolution is for that exact error code. Basically, it boils down to your SSL/encryption settings on your phone not matching what's required by Exchange. It has nothing to do with sending AT&T more money.

I'm also getting Exchange mail on the $30 a month data plan.
That's a good suggestion on the SSL settings--try either checking or unchecking that box during the setup.
One thing to try is hook up your phone to WiFi to see if that stops the error, then you know its AT&T thats stopping your Exchange from working. Otherwise you know its another error.

Exchange Server ActiveSync operates 100% over HTTP over SSL. If you can go to websites that are prefixed with "https://" then you can access Exchange Server ActiveSync provided you are configured correctly.
The first thing that I would suggest doing, is verifying that the web services for the Exchange you're trying to connect to are properly configured, by visiting the following URL:
https://[DNS host of your Exchange]/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync/
If you're prompted to enter credentials, enter them:
[DOMAIN]\[username]
[password]
And see if you get an HTTP 501. If you do get this HTTP Status Code, it means that Exchange Server ActiveSync is properly configured on the Exchange end. If you do not get this status code, or do not get prompted for credentials, it means that either the Exchange server is not [properly] configured for Exchange Server ActiveSync, or that, that service is not properly published to the internet.
If you are warned about an untrusted certificate, this could be your problem. You will need to obtain a copy of the root certification authority which signed the SSL certificate for the Exchange, and install it on your phone.
Then, try going to this address on your phone. You should experience the same behaviour. This means that either:
A. You are setting up your phone wrong.
B. Your e-mail account has been blocked from using ActiveSync by an Exchange administrator.
If you cannot go to this address on your phone, try going to another site that is HTTPS, and see if that succeeds.

First things first, check if your server is set up for it. go to https://youremailserver/oma and see what you get. You should get prompted for your username/password, then (maybe) get a warning about an unsupported device, then get a super-pared-down screen with links to inbox etc...
As a side note, this should also work from your phone's web browser (that's what that site was made for), though you'll be zooming in after every click.
If you don't get all that, or get an error message, then contact your administrator, 'cause it's not set up.
If you are the administrator, or your administrator wants to set it up but doesn't know how, let me know (by PM, I'll probably forget to look here later) and I'll send you the steps. It's server config stuff and you'd need admin privileges on the exchange server. The default settings in Exchange Server simply don't allow for OMA.
Just a follow up to my earlier post - I spoke with three different AT&T CS reps today, including one from the Wireless Data Group, and they all told me you would be violating your ToS if you access an Exchange Server with a PDA Personal plan. So, while this may not be the technical cause of your problems, it could be an issue if you get caught. Sort of like those of us who tether without a tethering plan.

I don't know what version of Exchange you're thinking of, but I'm running Exchange Server 2007, and "OMA" is not a virtual directory on my CAS.

How are they going to catch you? Crack open that SSL tunnel and examine your traffic?
I think they have better things to do.
Just thought I'd mention that I've gotten my Exchange Server to work. Thank you to everyone who's given suggestions to me in order to resolve my problem. It's nice to know that everyone here is so helpful. Thanks again.

I had a similar problem with my TP2. Its unbranded and connected to T-Mobile UK. The phone woould not load any https sites, because the t-mobile connection settings has the 'Use proxy server' option checked. As soon as i unchecked that it sync'd to exchange perfectly.

I seem to have gotten my @live.co.uk account receiving but still unable to send. My blueyonder one will do neither.

Thats worked but I have a new problem now
With my live.co.uk email, after receiving on the phone, I can still receive the email on my outlook.
But with my blueyonder account, once I've received an email on my phone, it no longer downloads to outlook (and vice versa).
Anything I can do?
you need to use IMAP, or set it to leave a copy on the server, otherwise once an email is downloded via POP it tends to not be available to other devices

I am leaving a copy on the server. Both HTC Desire settings and outlook settings state "Leave copy on server" and I've even checked the webmail/server- and the email is still there- unread.
As I say, seems to be working fine with my @live.co.uk address.
Also just noticed I can't send via a wifi network on either account. Not a huge deal, but strange.
Try imap4.blueyonder.co.uk for your incoming mail server address and outgoing: smtp.blueyonder.co.uk
Try checking TLS if available by selecting the security type as TLS.

I was able to setup my Exchange support no sweat. This is the first android device available in the US that can handle the harsh security policies set forth by my company. Works great.
You need to make sure you have the following info:
Account name
Password
Domain
Email Address
Server <this may be your issue>
whether or not they support SSL
The server is most likely not "yourcompany.com". For example my company uses "webmail.yourcompany.com". Secondly, your account name should be the same as your email address with the "@yourcompany.com" part. Its possible for it to be different. You should be able to get the domain name from your corporate PC/Laptop. aside from that, just try with the SSL option. If that fails try it again without.

BIS is different than Exchange, it connects to Exchange but does it's own thing with email, calendar, etc..
If you have never connected to your Exchange server using ActiveSync, it would need to be configured on the Exchange server.
The forwarding is also an Exchange server side configuration that the "fanboys" would need to setup.
I know you can have gmail check email on an external account, did you try configuring that?
okay... so if you don't mine i'll post the info you're saying i need with what i think the information is based on what i'm pulling from my outlook on my work computer. i'll change the info though to keep things secure. this is what i'm asked for when i try to create the account and what i'm entering:
email address: firstname.lastnameATcompanyDOTcom
server address: two options here and i've tried both. the first is listed as the microsoft exchange server on the first window that comes up when i select the account: letters-letter22.ab.lettersDOTnet the second is listed under more settings > connection > exchange proxy settings: ab.lettersDOTcom
domain name: i'm not sure of this one but figured it was one of two things. the first would be what i type in before my username when logging in: ab-letters (so when i log in i type (ab-letters\username). the second would be the url for the OWA option which is: companymailDOTcom
username: again, i've tried two options one is just my username and the other is my full login as needed when logging into outlook or OWA (ab-letters\username).
password: password
and i've tried with both the ssl box checked and not checked.

i tried the gmail option. said the server didn't allow for pop access.
use the address you use to access webmail. usually it's
owa.company.com
webmail.company.com
mail.company.com
if they don't allow MS ActiveSync I don't know what you can do.
if POP or IMAP is not an option, and the forward is not working (most companies don't allow that as a data leakage prevention) there is little to nothing you can do.
just weird they don't allow ActiveSync. you would read emails out of the office and become more efficient. very bad business policy.

Yoru Domain: ab-letters <--- from ab-letters\username
Accountname: username <-- from username
password: password
That should be enough. Of coarse try the SSL option both ways.
Here.. When we deployed our exchange server this is how we setup the server.
The main 2 things you need to know is email server and active directory domain. For this example ill use:
Email Server: mail.company.com
Domain: company.com
So..
Email: [email protected]
Server: mail.company.com
Domain: company.com (in some cases, it can be left blank)
Username: myname
Password: pass
Depending on how things are configure, sometimes you may need to use company\myname as the username, but most times not.
Also, as I mentioned before.. It really depends on how things are setup. If the server admins don't allow activesync, your out of luck. Also, things like hub transport servers in the mix can effect how email is accessed as well. If your admins can't give you the info you need for this... Um, perhaps they need to find other work.

By domain, it looking for your PDC (Primary Domain Controller). Not your companies URL domain unless you somehow named your internal PDC the same thing.
This would be the part that he types just before his username during his authentication sessions.

tried every suggestion offered here. sadly, no dice. i get the same security warning i mentioned in my first email. given that my previous BB was NOT issues by corporate yet i was able to retrieve work email fine (through BIS of course), i can only assume that they've somehow managed to set up the system so that it doesn't work with anything other than BIS or BES.
looking for any other possible solutions/alternatives. as i mentioned before, the whole forwarding thing didn't work so unless there's another way, gmail isn't even an option. any thoughts?
All out of ideas for getting email and events pushed to your phone. You can use the HTC Sync App and do it at the desktop. Also the OWA client works great in the web browser.
Lastly, you can escalate internally, but I'd recommend writing up a small business case to demonstrate the benefits before you do so. They did that in my company and that got use away from having to use Good Link.
If you can get your exchange administrator to agree to allow Activesync connections for retrieving mail, you could use an app like Nitrodesk's Touchdown v5 (for 2.0 and above).
Been using it on my Droid and it's stable and reliable if a bit choppy when swapping inbox folders.

sadly... no help. there's no way i'm going to convince them to do anything different than what they're doing now. when i say i work for a corporation, i mean i work for a CORPORATION. LOL. it's frikin huge with tons of employees, all over the world. that makes me a tiny little bug. LOL. when i made my call to IT they wouldn't even talk to me about anything email-cellphone related since i'm not high enough to even be considered for a corporate issued BB. LOL.
i do have one more chance. i can't remember what options are available in BIS, but my wife is going to take over my storm1 now that i have the new incredible. we're going in today to make the swap. my hope is that i can set my work email up in BIS as i did before but then auto forward it to a gmail account from within BIS. will be nice if i'm able to do this though it's still stupid that they don't let their frontline workers have access from their personal cellphones.
well, i made a bit of progress today. i still haven't connected yet, but after adding my account to BIS i was able to view the email server it uses to connect to the exchange server which is different from the one i was using before.
that said, i'm not getting that security msg i was getting before. now, though, i keep getting a message saying i can't be authenticated. i've tried lots of different options for the username to see if i could get in with no luck. any thoughts? i feel like i'm closer... but still so far away. thanks for the help!

Personally, I like the one built in to incredible more than the touch down app. I can see it all using the HTC widgets in Sense. Its very nice.
found a work around i thought i'd share. it's not great by any means, but it lets me view work email on my phone.
i setup a seperate gmail account just for work. then in outlook on my work computer i added the gmail account as an imap. then i created a rule to copy all incoming mail to the gmail inbox folder in outlook. this then syncs (obviously) with the gmail account and i pull the gmail to the phone through the native gmail app. it requires me leaving my computer at work on 24/7 but it's the only solution i could come up with for the time being.
