Faulty XDA IIs ??? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I have just upgraded from the XDA II to the new XDA IIs. Its pretty much the same but the keyboard is good and the WIFI is brilliant.
However, i use my XDA IIs mainly as a PDA rather than a phone so at present i dont have a SIM in it.
When i want to use it to browse the internet (like with my XDA II), i simply connect to my mobile phone using bluetooth and it creates a dialup connection from my mobile using the dialup number *99#.
This all works brilliantly with my XDA II but i have spent 3 or 4 hours trying to get it working with my XDA IIs.
Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations before i send it back as faulty?
Thanks in advance.
Dave

GPS issues

Hi
I've just come back from Belgium and have been frustrated with my GPS. last time I went, I had a different mobile and I'm positive that when data roaming was off it worked fine. This time it wouldn't located my location unless I found a free hotspot.
What am I doing wrong or is my nexus not working correctly?

Try the app FasterFix.

Thanks for the comments - I suppose I need root for FastFix.
I think the question still stands though - should GPS work without wifi or data-roaming?
Since wifi and mobile data should only provide a faster fix and have nothing to do with the stability of the gps fix, yes gps should work without wifi and data roaming. You might have to wait for a few minutes to get the first lock but after that it should work like it always did.

[Q] GPS and tether hotspot not working

i bought samsung galaxy s3 at&t (unlocked) in USA, and currently using it in India. tethering and hotspot feature cannot be enabled, it says "invalid sim" and gps when turned on keeps blinking, never fixes to a location.. samsung service centers here do not consider the device as it was not purchased in India. any solutions? i havent rooted nor done any modifications...

My first guess would be that it's not going to fully function on the cellular network in India, since it's a North American phone?
Ya if it is North American phone I would assume GPS is looking for the North American GPS satellites? I know on my old Captivate you could change what satellites it looked for, I think.

If your device was rooted, you could easily change the prefered NTP server used by your phone's GPS (for example using FasterGPS). Like ConeyKiller said, that will generally allow for a faster fix. There are also other tools, like GPS Status and Toolbox, that allow you to see if your GPS finds satellites.
Except for these two features everything else is working just fine.. it's unlocked so it should work, I'm guessing.

Thank you. GPS status does not show any connected satellites, you're right it does not connect to Indian satellites. Is there any solution or any way to fix this without rooting? Cuz I bought it like 2weeks back, and I don't want to root it for another 2 3 months atleast.

Just root...nothing to be scared about if you read read and read.

[Q] Does the nexus 7 2013 support 3G/4G USB modems?

I'm looking for an inexpensive way to get data on my soon to arrive N7 since my phone plan doesn't include data and I plan to be on the road a lot next year.
Also open to suggestions one good ones if the answer is yes.

why not just use the 3g connection of ur cellphone via wifi tethering?
Since you're going to be on the road, I'd suggest getting a Verizon mobile hotspot. Verizon is expensive, but you'll get the most consistent connection with them wherever you go. It's not USB, but the batteries last a while and you won't have a dongle hanging off your tablet. If you're in a car or hotel, you'll be able to keep it charged.
Also, with the hotspot, you can connect your laptop and phone to it. Just out of curiosity, your signature says that you have an LG-LS970, which is the Sprint LG Optimus G, how do not have data on it? I figured they would've required it.

Yes you can do it. Get a program called PPPWidget
You need to be rooted and you need a kernel that will support the 3G driver. I am using CM 10.2 with glitch kernel. ElementalX works too however I think you have to have Stock ROM or something AOSP based.
I have a Huwaei E303 3G dongle that I use. I think the dongle support is limited in these kernels.
Just used mine in Guam / Saipan / Tinian. It worked.
Thanks for the answers. I've been wondering this as well.
