Dont you right handers laugh! - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Morning Everyone, what i would like to know is - is there any software that enables your PDA to be used by a left-handed person, now i know that all the right handers will laugh but it is a seriuos problem for us lefties...
So is there any software out there? i ahve googled but to no avail...
P.S. Just you wait until i build a left handed kitchen and make all you righties use it!
P.P.S. Long live Ned Flanders!

what is the problem for the lefties with this phone?
the position of the hardware buttons?
I'm right handed so i have no idea what this adaptation software should do.

i'm left handed and have no problems using pda's
so i'm not sure what the problem is
once read a test that showed that lefthanded people more often then right had a twin but the fetus that made it absorbed the other not sure if it's pure chance or a possible cause for being lefthanded

no transparent left hand ..
Hi ...
The most trouble left handed people have is that the scroll bar is on the "wrong" side.
when you scroll thru a list you can't see the list anymore your left hand will be in front of the stuff you want to read.
I am looking for a long time for a solution for this. In them main time I use the scrollbar from the top ( left hand above the screen) ... but you should see me work on the PDA .. you will lauch
As far as I know Bill Gates is also lefthanded .. so I ask myself does he even use WM2003 ..?
Regards,
scanner

I was born left handed but my father imposed on me that I should be right handed. So the result was I am both left and right handed. I prefer using my left hand on my XDAII. In fact there are right handers who complain that this device is for left handers. I agree with them as I am very comfortable using it with my left hand than my right hand.

good thing i'm ambidextrous meaning i can use both my left and right hands for anything...but occassionally my left seems to prefer writing more than my right... :? .
cheers

Yup ... Sacnner was right - the scroll bars are on the wrong side
and yeah all you right ahnders will think us lefties are being petty but it really does get frustrating after a while
So nothing out there to help me?

i do remember nyditot as having orientations for left handed or right handed or landscape modes. it's the software which allows you to rotate the screen of the pda; downside is it's unstable with the xda2. i tried it once and had to do a hard reset coz it was screwing up my unit.

i just use a finger from my right hand when i need to scroll while using the stylus in my heft hand

Robson, whilst rotating the screen would indeed bring the scroll bar to the other side, wouldn't the screen be upside down at that point ?
cheers,
Alex.

well everthing we see are upside down when it go into the eyes and the brain turn it around so maybe brainSE would make it possible to rotate without doing a softreset [/b]

Correct. The scroll bar remains on the right with left or right landscape mode in WM03SE.

I'm left handed and I don't find it difficult to use the scroll bar. I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous though.

I'm left handed and don't have a prob with the scroll bar.
It depends how you hold the stylus - if you naturally write with the pen pointing away from yourself, it's not a problem, but if you normally hold the pen pointing towards yourself, your hand covers the screen and this can be a problem whether you're left or right-handed.

TP2 Zoom Bar

Does anyone think that a developer will create an application which will allow you to use the zoom-bar for a different functionality, (bit like GScroll) such as a application manager or a scroll control. if so what other functions could it be used for?

I don't have the device yet, but I think it would be great if someone can figure out how to make the zoom bar act as a d-pad like with Gscroll. That is, swipe up for up, swipe left for left, swipe down for down, swipe right for right. You wouldn't be able to use it in apps like games. But I can imagine it would be useful for the following:
-moving cursor around when typing
-scroll though the suggested contacts when you start typing in the "To" field in Messaging
-scroll through the suggested words when you have xt9 enabled
But I guess this is only applicable when the hardware keyboard is hidden since there are arrow keys on the keyboard. Besides, it's probably difficult/impossible for the zoom bar to recognize vertical swipes.
I thought I was on to something when I first started writing this post, but now I feel my idea may not be worth the trouble at all!

Would be nice if the bar was 'split' in two:
the left half is for left/right and the right half is for up/down.
So, each half should be devided into two halves too.
But, for this to work, the actual position of the finger should be known, not only the swipe...
A program like the GScroll AppSwitch would be good to control with the zoom bar, or even a simple way to scroll up and down through menus or things like contacts.

D-pad for rhodiium

I did it using the increase and decrease volume and changed them to up and down scrolling,

The reason Rhodium doesn't have a D-pad in the first place is because you are suppose to use the phone with the qwerty keyboard out most of the time.

It doesn't have a dpad because a) they thought it didn't need one because dpads are so 2005 and b) there wasn't room for everything and reviewers are already fond of calling it a brick.
I didn't notice AEB+ using the zoom bar as a dpad, but that's the hack I'm hoping for. Maybe it can capture the zoom bar action, I'm just not sure.

Just trust me on this...the reason is that the keyboard qwerty is good enough"
Think about PLEASE!!!!!
Why the hell would you buy a phone with qwerty keyboard, ctrl, arrow keys, and proper function indicators? Obviously because you rely on those.
And if you rely on those than you obviously already have a D-Pad called "Arrow Keys" and "Enter/Select Key"
Also don't you find it absolutely ****ing pointless to have a volume control keys be used as a scroll wheel when you lack a freaking "select" button?
Man what are you people thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why would you use up and down with volume rocker just to highlight an item and then tap on the same exact item to select it.
Why would you use a freaking volume rocker to scroll down a page when you obviously can do it better with a freaking stylus?
The same goes for the zoom bar!!! That ludicrously illogical to use zoom bar to highlight items and then having to get the stylus out to tap it. Waste of time and efficiency without a freaking "enter/select key"
Think aF***ingBout It! Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DPad Desire
I just got my TP2 a few days ago, my personal desire would be a DPAD app that uses the whole keyboard, so generically pressing rowards the left of the keys is left (like Q,W,A,S,D), towards the top is up (like 4,5,6,R,T,Y) etc. etc.
Then an assignable button for select, like space bar or FN.
Anyway, it would make sense to me and be easier to use especially for games , I find the DPAD being on the bottom right a bit annoying but they've done a good job fitting it all in!
Calm the hell down! How old are you, 12? The dpad is nice when you are only holding the phone with one hand. It is nearly impossible to use it with one hand while open. If your reasons why it doesn't have a dpad were true then the last 4 generations of HTC sliders wouldn't have a dpad. It doesn't have a dpad for multiple reasons including the iPhone's lack of a dpad, how a USABLE (Touch Pro!) dpad doesn't look good, and the lack of room on the front.
Up/Down without enter is still somewhat useful if you are reading something while only holding the phone with one hand. You can always map something else to be enter, like long press on start or back. I will DEFINITELY experiment with this once AT&T releases the Touch Pro 2 since I still do use it on my TP.
If only they put a ball or sensor like tbe Samsung Epix and new Blackberries have it would have greatly increased one handed usability.
so HOW can you map different actions to the zoom slider? like scroll?!

pantelis if you need a d-pad on a tp2.. try the acer m900.. it looks like the tp2 and has a fingerprint scanner that you can use as d-pad.. better camera with flash too.. but no tilting, ****ed up RAM, and a ****ed up KB

this may be your oponion, but that's no reason for putting other people down.
personnaly i use the volume buttons as up/down. thsi works very wel if you are scrolling in your emails. if i want to clean up my mailbox i can scroll the mails and delete them with my left soft-key. ik i tap the email is opened, but i dont always want to open the mail because this is time-consuming.
So you see, for some people these functions can be very usefull.
So please have an open mind en don't think you opinion is the only one.

OMG. Somebody is a grumpy-pants and got up on the wrong side of the bed.
This phone would be almost perfect if it had a scroll wheel or a D-pad. This device uses WM6.1 and this is the norm for WM6.1 (this may change with WM6.5)
I can easily envision how the use of the zoom bar or the volume buttons as a scroll wheel or d-pad replacement could work efficiently and better than the "freaking" stylus. All because you lack the vision to make it work doesn't mean that it cannot work well.
For example. The zoom bar could have five zones: up, left, select, right, & down. Just put some tape over the zoom bar with the map, and viola.
Also, what about phones like the Topaz? Where's the "freaking" arrow keys or the enter/select key?
You may be content with the phone, but others may not.

'Back' behavior without the hardware key

Hello everyone,
I just bought my desire and the first "annoying" thing is that I can't go back without using the hardware button. It would be nice to go back using a gesture like a slide from left to right (similar to the home pages navigation).
Since the display is quite big, you need to do some 'trips' between the upper part of the display and the bottom where the button is located.
Is there any utility tool which can accomplish that?
I assume because it would be rather confusing. What happens in apps that use the swipe gesture? If "back" is hard coded into the swipe gesture for the entire OS then apps can't use it. In the photo gallery swipe is for moving from one photo to the next...but if I accidentally try to share a photo and want to get out of that dialogue then I don't want swipe to move to share the previous photo instead...I want it to get out altogether.
I agree..in some applications makes no sense. Anyway, I need to have at least a soft button to go back on the upper or bottom of the display. Another solution is to have the back behavior only on some portions the display.
There is another problem which bothers me . The fonts are not so smooth..it looks like no clear type is available. Every letter have some very small pink pixels on the left side.In fact this applies for every vertical line. Is this normal?
has anyone else this pink pixels?

Suggestion for new fullscreen mod.

Hi, i didn't want to make trash of development section so I came here to ask or suggest of making mod that will allow us to use 100% of the screen without any on screen buttons visible.
I know that there is a mod that is doing same thing, but it's uncomfortable to use. (You press on the screen corner and then on screen buttons magically appear)
So here's my suggestion how could it work.
You will have to put your finger under the screen on the left, right or center depending on which action you want to launch. Then swype your finger up and release it.
For example I want to go back from settings so I press back button:
I put finger on the bottom left of the phone and then swype it up to the screen and release it.
If any developer could make that kind of gesture readable by phone, and attach it to a proper action would be great
Sorry for my "not best English" I tried how I could to present my idea most clearly.
And please don't say that screen is big enough so this kind of mod is unnecessary..
Edit: See attached image below

This actually has been suggested before and I thought it was a really good idea, but the majority of the community ripped the OP of the other thread a new one and told him to just use button savior or LMT launcher or something. It was pretty messed up. Hopefully we can actually get that sooner or later!
I completely agree. I use LMT, but it seems like it would be more convenient the way you suggested. Also less accidental presses if you swiped from the bottom.

I thought of extending lmt to support also that feature. But I would more see completely configurable touch/swipe areas. They could be placed on the left, right and also at the bottom. What do you think?

I also did that for myself.

Thank you for comments
I've attached image showing my idea (go to first post), so everything is clear now. I'm sure you can't do this with LMT.

It's very accurate. Even if someone is having problems, try to recalibrate borders, changing border detection area and gesture size
I found this apk very useful on my Motorola Defy to activate recent apps by swyping from the top of the screen
