Fix It - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hey,
I've got an originally unlocked/unbranded O2 XDA II. For reasons I wont bother going into, it now has a beta T Mobile MDA II ROM on it. I want to fix it and put the most stable and reliable O2 XDA II ROM on it (which hopefully would make the warranty valid again!). And I need to figure out:
1. What ROM should I put on it? It would be best if it was an official or supported ROM.
2. What software do I use to load the ROM?

You can find the latest O2 ROMS here and I suggest you follow the procedure I describe here.

Wow! Thats information you posted yourself. Thanks so much, I'll try it out soon.

Hi dcs,
I've tried your procedure to modify and update with a O2 ROM 1.72.187.
After preparing all the files and running HimaUpgradeUt.exe I get the first screen and then the message CE image file checksum error.
Can you help telling me where I went wrong?
Thanks a lot.

A couple of things. Did any errors occur during the modification part? and Did you remember to perform the updating of the crc in the nba files in step 11?

I repeated the whole process again and I'm now upgrading....
Hope it works....keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks for your help

Good Please let us know. Did you do anything different or just re-run the upgrade program?

You have to unpack the files of the upgrade, and then run adaptROM before running 'Programme A'. Or indeed use the SD card method, whichever is easiest for you. Both can be done most conveniently if you install our XDAtools.

I know about the maupgradeut_noId, but thats not what i'm looking for. The tool that i'm looking for is for reflashing the Universal (not for upgrading ROM).

I'm not really clear what you're trying to do. You reflash the ROM when you write a copy of the bootloader, OS, ExtROM or Radio to it, and MaUpgradeUt_NoID is what does the job. There's other software for doing stuff like writing a new splash screen to the ROM.
If you could be a bit more specific about what you're trying to achieve somebody here will point you in the right direction!

When i'm trying to upgrade ROM with Maupgrade it gives me an error about connection, even if the Universal is in bootloader and it's seen by the windows. I've tried with ROMupgradeut but I still receive that error. I've upgrade lately the bootloader to v1.01 from v1.0 and from q-tek rom to ivan beta14. Yesterday i've tried to upgrade to ivan's beta15 but i can't do it. Somebody told me that there is a utility that can reflash the Universal in order to upgrade the ROM of Universal.
Thanks all you guys for trying to help, but as i discovered right now the problem is generated by the windows VISTA, something it's not compatible with it, not the active sync, but the Maupgrade or other software that allows the upgrade.

Hi reisyboy,
If you flash in a proper way (meaning; Use USPL to unlock your device every time you flash with a new ROM), you can always go back to the factory ROM supplied by your provider.
I have downloaded the official -updated- ROM of T-M... before I was going to flash my phone. At a certain time I didn't see any improvement with an other ROM and flashed back in no time to factory settings. I have not used USPL for flashing back to the factory ROM. If you are having trouble finding the official ROM, try to find it in the Artemis-WIKI. Very usefull.
Read these instructions very good and you are in business
Grtz and good luck!

This is a VERY common issue, solved by installing the latest .net framework on your pc. Please do some more reading and research into what you are trying to do, Id hate to see another device stuck in limbo due to hasty flashing.

Unlocking a G3 Universal

Hi. Trying to unlock a Universal. Put into Bootloader mode, connected by USB, ran MaUpgradeUt file and got the following " Error 150. Rom upgrade Utility error. Not designed for device". This is a V1.00 G3 unit.
Any ideas please? I thought this was the easy part of a Rom upgrade!

Please READ the Wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
Good luck,
Thanks but following the unlocking part of it. Error messages thread does not mention Error 150.
Thanks
Bit more info.
Utility is Device Software Update Utility - R1000 R21200
Says change from Device CE Image version
Device Ext Image version
Device Radio Image version
Change to CE Image version
Ext Image version
Radio Image version
Then I get the message - Error 150. Does not designed for your device
Please get proper Rom Upgrade and try again.
Nothing in the Wiki says about this problem. Any ideas please?
Can someone tell me what is happening please? The Wiki is fine - if it all goes right - but nothing there tells me about this. How can I be using the wrong Rom, we are only unlocking it?
Thanks
Sorry, I don't know how to help you, mine was already unlocked.
I don't understand why in the wiki procedures are referred to Wizard... If there's so much compatibility, you may try Wizard Service Tool to unlock it. It seems to work with G3 devices with 1.00 BL.
May I ask you if you tell us your steps? I have to make the same operation on a friend of mine G3 Uni, so I'll appreciate your help.
Thank you.
Hi. All I tried to run was MaUpgradeUT_noID and that's when I got the message. Tried the Service tool but I am using Windows Vista with Windows Mobile Device Centre and the phone was not recognised. Likes XP and ActiveSynch which I haven't got.
So stuck........
Doug
May I suggest you to find a way to use XP? Maybe creating a little partition and a multi-boot... I don't feel so good thinking of Vista and flashing...
Special thanks
It is nice to know there are people on here who will go the extra mile to help someone in trouble. I was having real problems with trying to unlock and flash a WM6.1 ROM but Olympia768 kindly did it for me and in double quick time.
I have now back a Universal, with WM6.1, that seems like a new machine. I absolutely love it!
Many thanks to a very kind guy.
Doug
