Monday I received my 8525 in the mail. After setting everything up and playing with wm5 for a few hours I switched to vp3g's latest rom. I've done some tweaks to increase speed but it's still a little sluggish.
I've looked at the benchmarks that Karhu has made but I'm still not sure which I should be trying. Of course I could install new roms and find the one I think is fastest, but I'd like to get other peoples input on this.
What is the fastest rom? I'm looking for something that switches from landscape to portrait mode the fastest and opens programs and menus the fastest.
Just try them all, you will receive mixed opinions from users that use different rom's. You are the only one that can determine which is the fastest for you.
as custel has stated ,try them all, thats what i did to find the best rom for me
Yes, again the same question just a different day...
Go with your instincts and try a few!
Yes, try a few and then post back here with what you think is fastest to switch from portrait to landscape. I am curious.

Most likely one of the roms with a larger pagepool...
I've tried most of them and Black Satin and Hypercore SE feel the most responsive. Mind that you have to install your software on the SD card to keep your ROM snappy.

Yep.. Most roms when flashed are quick but slow down with the amount of programs you install/run. Just keep that in mind.

Weird, i do feel that the responsiveness of the system goes down when i install the apps in the phone memory. When i install them on the sd card the system remains much snappier.
That's my impression anyway.
schaps 4.01

I feel the same on this also...
BTW, I have used both Schap's 4.00 Full, Scahps 4.01 Lite and VP3G's latest releases (3.62.3?) All awesomely cooked ROMS and props to the chefs, but the ATT official Carrier release seems to be the speediest of all.
Now when you say snappier are you guys refering to the program running or just navigating around the ROM? My programs i need to run fast always run faster in main memory. As for fastest i like hypercore and beleive it or not the New ATT but ive been throught about 12-15 roms and versions since ive had my device and the ATT made it the longest with about 3 weeks use.

Where do you find the time to constantly do updates? That and don't you get sick of reinstalling software and updating stuff? Updating this thing is a major inconvenience, especially when you have to scrap all your dates on the calendar. (I know Activesync is supposed to back this up, but still, what PITA). This kind of constant tinkering is what drives people to the likes of the iPhone (I'm not there yet, though!)
Theres always new roms on here. Most roms take about 10 mins to update. I have all cabs saved on my memory card so it only takes about 20mins to set up the phone. Its just that everytime i come on here there is a new damn rom . I have looked at cooking my own but have had no luck. I actully just flashed a new rom and was looking for another before i found this thread...i dont know i may need help...

Setup a free exchange account with mail2web...that's what I did, I have my gmail forwarded there- that way, when I reflash I just have to setup the connection and it downloads my contacts, appts, to-do, and e-mail...works like a charm for me...I also keep the programs I install in a folder on my sd card, and just install them quickly as cabs, whole process takes me <10mins no biggie

Only 30 or 40? Faria and I would do that in one two weeks, eheheh!
yes, the saving your cabs to your SC and having SOME kind of push mail service is a must, IMO. Indeed I'll pull off to the side of the hiway, whip out my Thinkpad and reflash another ROM when the one I'm testing goes south... and I'm back up and running 10 minutes after it's done with a months worth of emails from my Exchange server. (Of course me having one cab that adds all my settings including my User info helps )

ATT is the shiznit
Honestly,
and i'm quite surprised myself, but i do find the ATT wm6 rom to be the snappiest i've tried. My issue now, is that there isn't enough space on it. I wish there was someway i could get rid off all the ATT stuff.
what i'd get rid of:
Internet Sharing (never gonna use it)
SAP Settings (no clue)
Push to Talk (don't live in the US)
Customer Feedback
Windows update
voice speed dial
windows media player (much prefer htc audio manager)
real player
zip (since it doesn't open rar files and i'm gonna need winrar anyways)
error reporting
oh & i want the kaiser comm manager & dialer
and to get rid of the god awful noisy att startup animation.
I've tried several of the 6.5 roms in the developer section and encountered the same issues on each of them. I'm wondering if this is common, if there are fixes, etc.?
I'm using T-Mobile in the U.S.
1. The weather on the phone's weather tab never successfully updates. I've installed Google Maps and let it find my location before trying to update the weather, but that still doesn't work.
2. I've tried to send pictures through texts but the send always fails. Regular text messaging works fine.
If I install the regular T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 Rom, everything works perfectly.
Anybody encountered these issues and found fixes for them? I really like some of the features and applications included in the newer Roms, but the text thing and the weather problem are keeping me from flashing anymore.
Thanks much, in advance!
Bob C.
No Problems Here
I just flashed Energy's newest rom and have not found anything wrong with any thing u just mentioned. Weather updates and messages go thru clearly. I had to install a cab to allow for bigger pics thru mms but it was easy and painless. So far im very pleased and its working flawlessly for me.

Are you a T-Mobile US user? I tried the latest rom from Energy and could not get the weather to update or it to send mms successfully.
Yes
Yea, i am. Did u install the mms cab? Theres a couple post here on the weather issue but mine works no problem. Just follow the post from someone in which u turn it on and off then back on and use Google maps to find My location, he explains it easier. But it works, as far as mms and sms they both work for me. Updated to latest radio for the hell of it and works as well.

You might have to change your MMS settings. I had to do this and it works great now

Hey guys,
I've tried a few of the Eris-based ROMs, and they are all pretty damn decent, my kudos to the devs.
But one common problem I am having is that when I try to set up the initial sync between Astrid and Remember The Milk, I get a "Page cannot be displayed" error. It's as though Astrid has no access to the web in order to establish that link with RTM.
Does anyone have a solution to this, or any other suggestions I can try? I've come to rely heavily on Astrid and it kills me to change back to another ROM.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: To be clear, I have no problems or connectivity issues with Email / Browser / Maps on both Mobile and Wifi data.
There is an issue with the leaked ROM and HTTP requests from within apps. For instanc, while Gmail can get my emails, when I click the show pictures button nothign comes up. Urbanspoon has the same problem as you described above. I think it is a common problem on all the ROM's based on the Eris leak
Thanks for the response...
Bummer.
That would be the same reason why babbler and bloo cant gain access to facebook then to be granted permissions, bugger.
I think I've had the same trouble with NavLauncher's automatic brut.all maps downloader.... I've got perfect signal and mobile internet, everything else is working, but the maps.apk just won't download.
Yes, I have the same problems, but it seems that some people don't have them.
I have seen reports that Facebook sync works and have found very few other people mentioning these problems on ROM specific threads.
No solution yet
I can confirm that problem with astrid and any other apps that make http requests
its so sad, astrid is _so_ useful :/

I wouldn't call it sad. Sad is losing a loved one, or popping a testicle. I think its unfortunate, but sad is not an emotion I feel towards a week or two without the use of a task list application.
Got the same issue with a few apps (pagesjaunes, wapedia)... I'm hoping somone will find a fix! I don't want to give up my rom and go back to 1.5...
Edit : Does everybody gets this error? Is it in all eris leak based roms? (I run Defiance). I wiped everything but did not format my sdcard when I flashed the 2.1 rom, coming from MCR 3.1...

I was kidding still - its not really fortunate that it doesnt work
for tasks you can try gtasks in the market, its free and syncs with your Google task list and if you use pure calendar it will also display on the due dates.

I don't think it's everybody...
There are just too few comments in this thread for it to be a generic problem.
Nah, i think it is @nprussell has even spoken about it several times in his VillianROM thread.
Doh! It looks like this is even happening in the Legend leak! (BeHero 1.3.1)
I asked the question in the BeHero thread at HTCPedia and indeed it seems that the issue is not resolved :/
I'll have to stick with MCR for now...
This issue is not specific to 2.1: I've had this with my completely stock 1.5 original ROM back from Hero release here in .nl (august 2009).
It's the primary reason I went to RememberTheMilk, but now that I've done so I'm convinced that RTM is better for me than Astrid anyway. But that's another discussion
As to resolving the original problem: I have no clue how. Sorry...
It would be nice if the devs could at least acknowledge that this is indeed a bug with their cooked ROMs in their "not working" lists.
It may not be a big deal to some, but it's a deal-breaker to many.

Wooohooo!!!
We are back in business
I can confirm Astrid - RTM sync is working once again in the latest Legend ROM leak.
So far this leak is available from http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2275
But note the ROM is a little laggy/slow, but everything seems to working ok, from the last 20 mins i have been using it
Greetings All,
Well after 1 1/2 days of searching with no help or guidenance from anyone, (Sorry but alittle annoyed that no one likes to help, but I'll get over it) I managed to wrap up a hotfix for our SMS problem with lagging and not beng able to txt. I am currently testing this to see how it is working, and so far, on an install level it went without a hitch.
This is not a fix for a noob, I STRONGLY suggest noobs do not attempt this hotfix, I am not responsible for bricking, crashing, loss of data, or frying of your phone! I assume no responsiblitly and if you attempt this you are doing so with knowing the risks that come with this!
Now since that is out of the way:
This hotfix is actually the last hotfix for the HD2 that was dated 1/24/2010. As far as I know the last fix corrected the issue of being able to txt while the thread loaded in the background, and since Seppi the good soul came up with migrating the fix to tp2 but was a much older version (1.5.2011.2130) I decided I wasnt waiting for HTC and decided to take their HD2 hotfix and do the same thing Seppi did and here it is.
HotFix Compatability:
All 2.07.40x Manila 2.5 Roms. NOT COMPATABILE WITH ANY PRIOR OR FUTURE ROMS. All Languages Supported.
You Have to turn off Manila by going to Settings/All Settings/Today/Items and pick windows default. Also make SURE HTC messaging is not running or the hotfix will not install.
It will ask you to install either on the Device or SDCard. MUST BE INSTALLED ON DEVICE.
Fixes: (2)
1) Fixes the SMS lag we all have been dealing with and not being able to type as the whole thread loads. Now SMS's load in background.
2) So Far fixes the loss of contact picture, this is due to a resetting of the phone and associates SMS's to sim card and loses association with phone contact.
Known Bugs: (3)
1) Same as in the HD2 at times the screen when rotating from landscape to portrait might mix up the last line where the last line and the one above it merge, going back to landscape corrects this. Does not happen from portrait to landscape.
2) All prior SMS's might not associate with the corresponding phone contacts.
3) This MAY reset your MMS settings and will need to re-enter MMS info. based on your service provider. You can reach this by tabing to Msgs/All msgs/Menu/Settings/Options/Menu/MMS Server. Select SampleMMSC to change your settings Manually.
Or going to Settings/All Settings/Connections/Connections Setup and going through the wizard again.
Notes:
I have attached two files, One is a direct install with no way to uninstall it, this is how I have it setup and is working. The other file has an uninstall feature incase of anything can be removed. I have not tested the one with the uninstall feature to see if it would work that way, but Your free to test it out.
To know if the hotfix has been applied, to go Msgs/All Msgs/Menu/About if successful, your app build should be 1.5 (Build 2011.3631) The original version on the TP2 was Build 2011.3831.
Any comments good or bad Feel Free.
75 Views and no one has anything to say? Gee wonder about that one.
And no one willing to try it huh? Well I can tell you this much it has made a difference so far, and it seems it might have fixed two POSSIBLE problems as well:
1) I have no SOD as of yet since doing this, even with weather animation.
2) No screen going black while typing or right after hitting send.
What can I say... If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
Others who have this problem might chance it but since I don't I'm not gonna stuff up a stable phone just to see if it breaks it....

Oh it's broke alright. I haven't looked in these forums in a while. I gave up waiting for somebody to get a fix for this but I was curious and decided to take a peek in here to see what people are up to. The reason "it ain't broke" for some people is because they either don't have much sms volume or they clean out their inbox on a regular basis. For those of us who have a large volume of sms and don't have the time to clean out our inbox, it's definitely broke.
Anyway, you don't know how happy I am to see this fix! Thanks so much. I'm going to try it and I'll report back.
One question though...You say it's for manila 2.5...I'm not real fluent with the whole manila speak so I'm not sure if this will work on my phone. I've got a att tilt2 with the stock 6.5 rom running spb mobile shell. Will this update work on my phone?

Explanation: People like me see the title and wonder: "What's this?". So I click on it and see it's a solution for a problem that I don't have and haven't even heard of...so I have no comment on it. There's no big mystery about it nor any reason to take it personally.

The Stock 6.5 that came with your phone is WinMo 6.5 Manila 2.1, it will not work with this version I do not suggest it at all. This version is for anyone who HardSPL-ed their phone and are using any of the generic HTC Roms without any Service Provider Bloatware. I would Add Customized Roms to the list but I think most Customized roms removed the 2.5 msging app from their cooked roms.
MCbrian
The people who dont have this problem either are using stock Roms from providers that have the 2.1 version of the app which didnt have this issue, or are people with the New Roms that are not heavy sms users, Or are using cooked roms without the 2.5 manila app in the rom and have reverted back to the WM msging app.
BTW FYI HTC didnt make the new msging system, its a 3rd party app, originally made by Jataaya, but was bought out by a company in india called ComViva which actually makes the app I believe.
Hi
Just installed the fix: looks like now SMS application has much better options, it just works better. I restored 500 messages, as for now it works smoothly. No hung after sending message. I'll test it for few more days, but even now I can say it fixes the buggy app!
And quick question: bulid version of the fix suggest it is 'previous' version (3631 instead of 3831). How is it?
and regarding SOD: had it 3 times already since instaling hotfix, but it is not rather related to hotfix. Just want to tell that hotfix doesn't fix SOD...

Glad to hear it fixed your problem. Question, did you use the uninstallable cab or the direct cab?
The reason for the version difference again is that HD2 software versioning is different then TP2, HD2 jumped from 2031, where The stock TP2 6.5 Manila 2.5 had the 3831 Being that its from HD its the same app but different build #'s.
And thanx for the feedback and about the SOD being the only one who was using it and not having the issue anymore I thought maybe it had something to do with the fix, but thats why I said POSSIBILITY cause being the sole user I had nothing else to go on.
Glad I made a difference. Thanx.
I used version with uninstall option. After another day of testing I confirm it fixes the most annoying behaviour of HTC SMS app. Sad that many people complain about the bug, not many want to try the fix- just look at the threads...
Regarding SOD: I contacted HTC service, they advised to upgrade the firmware (that's why I had to test the hotfix), now they say I have to 'repair' the device. I'll try. My company uses more than 40 TP2s, I am the only one who enocounters SOD. Maybe it is really broken...
Once again - thanks for the fix!
OK, I've installed the un-installable version, so far it seems to work well - the HTC messaging has never run so quick.
I'll keep an eye on it over the coming days.
much more smooth now! thanks!
Agreed, I also installed the removable version and it seems to work all ok, certainly much better than before!. This maybe a coincidence but when I flick through my picture album now (full screen images), sometimes it takes 2 or 3 'flicks' to get to the next image, don't remember it being like this before. It could be that the images are about 4mb a file, hhmm, will have a look at this.

The SMS Hot fix does not change any files that have to do with HTC Album, so it either is coincidence, or you were not aware of it before. But I assure you the two are completely unrelated.

I just installed it on two us t-mobile hd2's. One is the orignal rom and the other is the updated rom. Both are responding much better to sms. The new rom is working almost perfect 99% better than it was. The orignal rom has 85% ish increase in speed so I would say that this cab is very much worth the install.
Thanks for you work.

Is there an online version of the kitchen? I ask because it is the last resort to get a fully functional Rom on my evo before I allow my daughter to have it other than using my nandroid of my original and unrooting.
I use a 64-bit system Windows 7. Done research and it says a 32-bit Java will work but that is false. I have spent from 9am until an hour ago (3:30pm here now) formating my hard-drive and reinstalled my OS because it didn't work. Still the kitchen doesn't find Java although I tried to instal a 32-bit version. Online is the only way I can do anything or I need a step-by-step on what I need to do to an apk where I can do it on my phone or I am in need of someone building a Rom. So.....is there one online?
What are you doing? Making a fully functional ROM? Why not take a stock rooted or a working GB ROM like reloaded?
Yea just get a stock 5.07 rooted rom. Not really sure what you're trying to do

I am letting my daughter have my Evo. She has been hardcore blackBerry but given their status she is wanting to try Android. I have flashed every Rom on the first 10 pages of Development and what she has settled on as far as wanting most is Energy Rom. There are 3 problems stopping her from being totally happy with it. First is the 9016. After a lot of searching all I can find is it is tied to the Phone.apk. I have been unsuccessful at changing it out. The carousel shows only a grey screen when looking in Personalize but have been unsuccessful at getting the one from Mik3D installed and working since I know the one from that Rom works. The browser not going to mobile view and being to wide unless in landscape has been the only thing I have fixed. i used Root Explorer and deleted it and moved a basic stock in. Somehow it worked although the other things haven't. I had decided to try my hand at the kitchen to see if I could make the changes that way but it doesn't work on my PC regardless of what i try and believe me when I say I have taken extreme measures to make it work. So my hopes are that either someone can point me in the right direction on how to exchange an apk using only what tools I can find for my phone or in the direction of a kitchen online. For my phone I have installed: Root Explorer,File Manager and ZipSign2.

She's that picky? Tell her to get an iPhone. LOL
Even she is smart enough to know the first flip phone I ever purchased from Sprint way back when they finally got small enough to fit in your pocket is still better than the best Apple ever released.
However, with a little help I think I can make my life easier. I flashed Derp3D again and only 2 small things needed. First is the keyboard. How do I get the HTC back on and with dictionary? Last is how do I get the weather widget with sound? Those are the only things needed. Themes will be easy enough to handle.
Have you tried MikG v3.11 ? Uber Stable. Has a lot of Themes, and Mods available.

The newest Jellybread has the 9016 number blocked, or you can use Go SMS and blacklist it, plus everything else you mentioned works

The kitchen won't help you for fixing the things you want to fix )besides the fact that there isn't an online version). The kitchen just essentially makes it easier to do the things you're already doing. But EnergyROm is a Sense 3.5 ROM, which is not what the EVO natively comes with. So, there will ALWAYS be issues with it, like the VVM 9016 texts, no 4G, etc. And trying to swap things in from a Sense 3.0 ROM (Mik3D) will only cause more issues. I think you're going to have to "put your foot down" and let your daughter know she can either have a fully functional ROM that doesn't look exactly as she wants, or she can have the eye candy she wants without full functionality.
There are plenty of fully functional ROMs out there with a Sprint base that don't have the 9016 issue. Honestly, those all seem to be extremely minor issues to me. Sounds like you should just bite the bullet and get her an EVO LTE, lol.
I have seen a lot of good reviews of Kendall's ROM, though. But I'm going to assume that's not what your daughter is looking for. Sounds like she likes the look/widgets of Sense.
I remember back in the day I tried a sense 3.0 rom that didn't do the 9016 or whatever, but I don't see how that bugs her. Its just a text message that would only take 2 seconds to delete. When I ran those roms, it wasn't a big deal to me.
With the sense weather part, still didn't have a problem with that either. Just had to turn sound up.
