"Not Enough Memory" troubleshooting thread

So, some of you have this error, some dont. So lets try and figure it out. Heres what we know.
The problem affects ALL Artemis WM6 ROMS.
Remember, the issue doesnt appear when just using it normally. Its only under certain circumstances. Heres how you re-create the problem.
Run Tomtom, this causes the error90% of the time.
Create a new word document and try to save anywhere.
Heres my setup and what ive tried to fix it.
Device: MDA Compact III
SD Card: 1gb
Ive tried font cache size, system cache, removing the memory card.
Please dont post "I dont get the error" if you havnt tried running tomtom or saving a word document.

To add to the problem re-creation, I was trying to copy a directory with around 15 files in it from the internal memory to the storage card, the message just kept popping up for all the duration of the copy process, I stoppped clicking ok eventually. I looked at the free program mempry available then and it was pretty good at around 22mb.
Device: Orbit XDA
SD Card: 1gb

I too have noticed that looking at the free storage space seems to fix it for tomtom (but not word). There is something else wrong with Excel in that the "Save As" is in the wrong place, infact where it is isnt actually save as.

You're right, I haven't noticed this before with excel. I can't remember if it was like this before, was it? It won't be easy figuring this little memory issue out. I hope someone has a trick up their sleeves.

I have the WM6 emulator running on my pc and the excel thing isnt there. Comparing the registry settings on the emulator with my device. I would love to hear if anyone does actually have Word working without issue.

BREAKTHROUGH!
OK. I installed the original Orbit rom and... IT WORKS!!!! So the question is what did bepe and the guys do when they de-branded it? The orbit rom has an Ext-Rom with a load of branded stuff PLUS! some patches. I bet one of these patches fixes the issue!
These custom roms have NO Ext-Rom at all, hence the increased storage space. however in the process of removing the ext rom they have managed to cause these memory errors.
So guys, any chance of a rom close to the Orbit rom but with the English language and Ext rom left in tack?

Great work mate, it is the removal/merging of the extended rom that's causing the problem then. Maybe it's not even a patch in the extended rom, maybe it's the way the extended rom was merged that's causing it. This surely deserves more looking into.

Word FIX!
Thanks to pvdhelm for the tip on this one. Attached is a patch to fix the memory issue with word (and only word). To fix it for other apps you need to view the memory in the control panel and click on "Storage Card". The word fix is pernament but the other memory issue it only until you reset your phone.

Absolutely brilliant, so it looks like missing registry entries!! We need to find out what was in the original extended rom then to find out if we're missing anything else. Looks like only me and you here, you should post this fix in the main threads mate.

I have a copy of the rom, tried isntalling it all but to no avail. It looks like on boot up the system thinks it has a different ammount of ram due to the ext rom being merged. By displaying the ammount of storage it realises it has a different ammount and fixes it. Until the next reboot. So if anyone knows what changes when you view the storage that may be fixing it I would love to know.
Or if somone can make a rom with the ext rom still in place.
EDIT: Heres one just for the MDA Compact III without WiFi users. It applys the Word memory errror fix but also fixes the Comm Manager issue and does so just for the MDA as it removes WiFi from the list.

Maybe this is a clue for you all. I have never had these errors, ands I use Tomtom daily and have tested word for you again with no fault.
The difference? Well I upgraded to WM6.0 the original way before USPL patch and flashed the OS only. I'm assuming you with problems used the ROM installer method. Am I right with my assumption? If so that should narrow down the culprit.
I used Bepes original WM6 WWE OS only upgrade, therefore the Ext ROM on my device is still the old T-Mobile WM5 one and was simply not allowed to run. So it can't be right to assume there is something missing from an EXT ROM patch.

It's most certainly the extended rom being merged then, there's nothing else to it.

gajet, can you give me the exact steps you took. I went from the T-Mobile rom to Black and blue then to the others. I uses USPL first though.
Can you give me a quick set of steps you took i.e Original T-Mobile rom, then ran USPL, then updated to Bepes.
Also, if you used bepe's can you also tell me which rom update util you used? as the one ive tried has errors at the end.

I think it could be an order of upgrade issue, heres the latest.
1. Downgraded to T-Mobile WM5 rom
2. Ran USPL
3. Upgraded to Bepe WM6 using the EXE version
The word issue is no longer there but the out of memory in Tomtom is. Also no ext rom.
It would be good to know from others and gajet what steps they took and which files they uses to do it. Especially as gajet still has his extended rom.

I've tried:
official t-mobile wm5 to german wm6 to bepe uspl &
official t-mobile wm5 to bepe uspl
Both times I have had the error with tomtom but no problems with word.
Both times temp fix (looking at storage) worked (sorry about font cache red herring - thought I was onto something there).
Just tied chi-tai extended battery plugin with the storage showing on the homepage (as a way to force system to get correct memory) but no joy.
I have htc touch com manager and phone skin but not the home plugin.

Sadly the original thread was edited to reflect the OS update was repackaged but eddie2k still goes on the reexplain the process in this thread.

Now I didn't bother installing the german O2 release as my MDACIII was CID locked, so I just used ARTE package with Bepes WM6 .nb renamed and flashed the OS only, then after hard resetting, at the point of about to load EXT ROM soft reset.
This thread was also the guide although you could skip the process of extracting the .os from a ROM package as Bepe originally provided us with the raw windows.nb file.

Thanks gajet, Ive just posted the steps. Your post was deffinatly the key. Once I saw you still had your ext rom I knew we could do it.

Question about SD Card Flashing

So I've flashed my Hermes more times than I can remember. But I'm reformatting my laptop to a minimal installation state. I don't want to install active sync unless I have to. The only thing I ever use it for is to flash my Hermes. So I'm going to try the SD Card method found here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing
My questions are:
Is this method still valid? Much has changed since this was posted, and I wanted to make sure that each step was still correct.
From the wiki: "SuperCID devices are able to flash any NBH image using this method." I have my Hermes with Hard-SPL-V7. That covers the SuperCID part right?
I will be flashing my Hermes to K's final 6.0 ROM. He has a feature to auto install cabs found on the SD card. I've done it before flawlessly. The wiki calls for a reformatting of the SD card. Is it ok if I still put cabs and the config file on there to auto install the cabs?
EDIT: Looks like I haven't been keeping up. Seems like this is now called User Customization and is pretty wide spread. So to rephrase, can an SD card be used to both flash and provide user customization?
This last question is just curiosity. I haven't tried any 6.1 roms yet. I was waiting for kin0kin to make a non beta one, but it looks like he's stopped development. Are the 6.1 Roms still unstable? Which one most resembles K's roms (stable, no bloat)? I never tried any other cooks outside of vp3g and kin0kin because it seemed like other cooks were more about making as many new roms, as quickly as possible rather than hammering out one very stable rom. Now that kin0kin isn't making a 6.1, who should I turn to?

You should be OK with Hard SPL ver 7 installed. And yes, you should still be able to put the auto config file on the sd card. I generally got the ****s with backing up my sd card to pc, formatting and then having to transfer EVERYTHING back onto the card so just usually put the .nbh file on my sd card AS IS... Never had a problem with flashing. I think we are told to reformat the card as a safety precaution but I've never had problems.
As for wm 6.1, It depends, as what is stable to one person insnt to another... Its common belief that if you flash a stock rom first you wont have any troubles... If you want to try there a few lean roms, FariaDrP clean rom, Hermes_ShadoW_2.1_CE, PV DVH G&C and the "unnamed" wm6.1 to name a few. A search on the forum should find these for you... When you say AS IS, do you mean you don't rename it or anything. Or as in, just putting it on there without reformat AFTER the renaming.
For the 6.1, when I say stable I mean everything works as advertised. No adverse effects like hangs and shutdowns. Is the upgrade even worth it? Is it actually faster? I don't use IE, so that upgrade isn't really needed.

As you've already formatted the card fat 32 to use I just put the .nbh file onto the root directory BUT rename it "hermimg.nbh" otherwise it wont be recognised as a os flash. cheers...

From Android to Win 6.5

Long story short. i'm trying android again to see if the newest build has better battery life. the last build couldn't hold a charge long enough to make it worht while as a phone.
The only way i've ever gotten android to get data after being flashed has been to get it working in windows first and then installing android.
i've read and searched for a step by step on how to do this and i just haven't been fruitful.

The guides that i see want me to establish an active sync connection to flash the device but I have android installed and i cant' establish an active sync connection. I think thats my major hangup. Is there a way to flash it from the memory card?

Put your phone in Bootloader Mode by pressing the Camera and Power buttons and then the Reset button all at the same time.
Then make sure you have a radio of 3.4x or above... If not Flash back to a new stock Rom and then follow the threads you were just reading.
If you radio is good go and Download one of the ROMS here on this forum.

Make sure it says usb at the bottom of the bootloader.

Here's an easy way to flash your HTC Vogue without using ActiveSync. It would likely be a great method to use if you had many Vogues that all needed to be updated as well. Works great for those not using Windows, as well.
Look around for a Transflash (aka MicroSD) card, one that you can erase, 2GB or less.
Use your Windows machine to make sure it's freshly formatted as FAT32]
Copy the ROM you want to flash to the card.
Rename the file you just copied to VOGUIMG.nbh If you are flashing a different model, you need to be sure you have the right file name for it. I think the pattern is the first 4 letters of the model name with IMG.nbh after it, but if it doesn't work, don't blame me,
Put card in phone.
Enter bootloader mode by holding the CAMERA and POWER buttons, while pressing the RESET button in the little hole in the bottom of the phone. (don't bother to connect it to your computer)
Enjoy a caffinated beverage of your choice, or an alcoholic beverage of your choice, or heck, a nice tall glass of cool water while you wait.
Watch as your phone automagically flashes itself!
Congratulate yourself on a job well done.
This is what I'm going to use from now on for flashing with a Mac or Linux. For those addicted to flashing, you can even take a collection of cards with you. I'm not yet sure if you can have multiple ROMs on one card, and just rename the one you want to flash or not yet, but I'll likely find out soon.
ATTENTION:
Missing any of these will make it NOT WORK:
Card must be normal SD, not SDHC or XDHC. No bigger than 2GB
Card must be formatted with FAT32. They often come formatted FAT16 or plain FAT, and a previously-used card could have just about any format on it -- NTFS. HPFS. HFS+. EXT3 -- Format it right to be sure.
Be sure you have the right name. I've heard that CaSe cOuNtS -- the name above has been cut/pasted from a working reflash card.
There is no #4.

i do as yousay after i put it in bootloade mode it says loading for a split seconde then goes back to bootloader i need help i have android with no data i read that i need to reinstill wm get data working their then re install android i cant get wm back on this phone im going on 3 days trying to flash this yes its unlocked

I think I followed all instructions to switch back to WiMo in the sticky thread.
For a second the display shows a screen with four colours:
KAIS130
SPL-3.28.0000
CPLD-8
Then the screen turns to grey showing:
Loading ...
but nothing else happens.
Data on my sdcard:
KAISDIAG.NBH form the sticky thread
KAISimg.nbh (renamed RUU_signed.nbh) form rom file from this thread:

Do I have the right files on my sdcard?

Thats not a stock WM rom, I'd recommend looking for Kaiser_HTC_ASIA_HK_WWE_3.34.721.2.exe
That is the last HTC stock rom, and should flash either from Bootloader using USB, or by extracting and renaming RUU_Signed.NBH and flashing by SD card.
Note that it is safest to Format the SD card before copying files and flashing, just to make sure that there are no other files or folders that could possibly confuse things.
Things to check, if using bootloader and USB, make sure you remove the SD card first. Before you enter bootloader unplug the usb cable too, now camera+power, the bootloader screen should display 'Serial' on the bottom white area, after this plug in the USB cable, it should now say 'USB', once this is showing run the file above and plunge you back into the hell that is WM
For SD card method, make certain that only the KAISimg.nbh file is on SD, and when you enter bootloader mode note that it may take a little while to read and check the NBH, since it is around 100MB, so be patient.

This happened to me last week. I wanted to check how WM used to look on the Kaiser, and I got into the same issue...
Man, WM on Kaiser looks terrible! Android is much faster and more usable than WM, even with the latest ROMs.
I'm not saying that WM is not a capable OS, it's just very hard to use on a small screen. On my HD2 at least, it runs quite fast to compensate for any aesthetic issues

Glad I could help, and it's a good thing to have that file if you ever decide that WM is not as much fun as Android, ( I give it a week maximum before you reflash ).

i have a tp2 with Leo Rom. i have Hard HSPl and changes the radio i want to move on and try a new energy Rom the 23695 i think it on the Roms part but i have to Disable XDA_UC and Perform Task29 on the phone, with the leo Rom i just put it on the SD n rename. no need to _uc n task 29.... can some1 make me a vid on how to do that n load this rom, ill pay pal it. yes i can read but some people work different and lik to see and here things thanks

**Do not do the PPCGeeks method.**
Best flashing process: Task 29, flash radio, Task 29, flash ROM, hard-reset.
Download the Task 29 in XDA's Rhodium ROM Development forum. Flash Task 29 like a regular ROM. Flash your radio like you normally do. Repeat Task 29. Flash ROM like you normally do. When the ROM finishes loading, hard-reset.
**The XDA_UC in EnergyROMs is specially customized for the EnergyROM series. It is not like other UCs (that's why you can't use the method in PPCGeeks).
To use XDA_UC to install cabs: (EnergyROM-specific UC)
1. Create a new folder in your Storage Card.
2. Name the folder "XDA_UC" (without the quotation marks).
3. Copy and Paste the cabs you want into the XDA_UC folder.
4. **If the cab asks you to agree to something or launch the program while/after installing, don't put it there!**
5. If you have cabs mentioned in #4, you have to make a new [sub-]folder in XDA_UC. Name this folder "SD" (without the quotation marks).
6. In the directory "\Storage Card\XDA_UC\SD" is where you put those cabs mentioned in #4.
7. You are now finished setting up XDA_UC to install cabs to your EnergyROM.
FYI: You do not have to use XDA_UC. If you don't use XDA_UC, you can just skip it when the ROM loads. Also, Task 29 is not mandatory. It is just recommended.
I hope I helped you. If I didn't, maybe you could post step-by-step what you're doing so it's easier for everyone to understand what you are doing.

FYI: You do not have to use XDA_UC. If you don't use XDA_UC, you can just skip it when the ROM loads. Also, Task 29 is not mandatory. It is just recommended
i have Rom firestorm_leo=v6 wwe rom date 2/4/10 i like it best
radio 4.49.25.57
When i dl this Rom i save it to my vista desktop i rename the file rhodimg.nbh then save to Root Sd card. i do the Tri mode reset and it take the new Rom i renamed......
i did this process for the following Rom WWE|RHO|.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.- Energy -.¸¸.·´¯ * |Jul 17| 21911|23569|23673 * Sense 2016______MaxSense UI
i did the same process but after i tri mode reset it never found the new Rom just went to the 1 i had be for? but it states i need both the XDA_UC &Task 29. i dont have them n thats i thought it didnt work. but if there not needed y didnt it work?

Is the old RHODIMG.nbh (the Firestorm) still in the SD-card? If it is, you need to delete it before you put the new RHODIMG.nbh (EnergyROM) in it.
Did you try flashing using USB?
1. Put your phone in Bootloader (Tri-color screen)
2. Connect your phone using USB to your PC.
3. On your PC, open the EnergyROM folder -- if the .nbh is not there, put it back. Or you can extract the .7z file again.
4. In the EnergyROM folder, you should see a .exe and a .nbh.
5. Launch the .exe.
6. Follow the prompts to flash the ROM.
7. When you press "update," your ROM will start flashing.

I usually flash using USB, so I don't know why it's doing that when you flash using the SD-card.
You don't need XDA_UC. Where did you see where it says you need it? When the phone is done booting up after the flash, XDA_UC will pop up, but just press "NO" and it will leave you alone!
Task 29 is like flashing a blank ROM -- your phone will be stuck in the boot screen, so you need to flash another ROM on it. You don't need to do it but is highly recommended because it resets some drivers.

Had then the Rom now a few days like it. but i might leave it and go back home. runs a little slow. Shameful. but now i know how to fish

NRG is updating his ROMs right now. He is starting to use build 23121 (the 231xx builds are currently the fastest WM6.5.x builds). You could check those out. The new ROMs are pretty fast on my HD2 right now, but when I use my TP2, I like the speed of Agent_47's Valkyrie ROMs.
P.S. I'm a guy, so...yeah just wanted to clear that up!
