After every restart, I receive the following text message:
<sisr:RZufTBoOhCcgkA5IVA=:1:1:0>http://70.103.79.209/;+447624806186;XXXXXXXXXXX;F9tKNrMDROAD+YTw1/MEnPqRqbKkjkQ
The XXXXXXXXXXX is my phone number. The tangled bits of alpha after the sisr: tag and my phone number change every time.
I’ve tried to break apart this cryptic SMS message into parts to better understand it.
First was the <sisr: variable >tag, I’ve never seen this before. I googled and was able to find the following documents.

Internet backbone provider with long haul capabilities. Hmm…
Next was the country code +44 (UK). I called the number. “Your international call cannot be completed BEEP BEEP BEEP”. Dead end. No such number. No luck there trying to identify.
Conclusion? I don’t know. I’ve never seen this nomenclature before in xml or html.
Comments?

I get this same freaking msg with every reboot and changes each time to a diff msg. Not sure we shud call that company.
I accidently went to http://70.103.79.208/ by accident. (typo) and came up with some site about "SNAPin Software"
(possibly http://www.snapin.com/)
New feature in wm6? The address book sync thing?
I got the same message once, while playing around with the Excalibur i deinstalled the pre-installed software, and now i do not get any more messages.
Which pre-installed software
Tag,
Which software did you uninstall to make the default boot SMS message go away?
Tchuss,
jromney
Can not say, which software, because i deinstalled ALL preinstalled SW.
I didn't uninstall anything and I stopped receiving the txt's after 10 or so reboots.
Hope that helps.

\Program Files\SNAPin, i tried to delete this folder, two files could not be deleted, sihome.exe and siwatcher.exe, so i renamed them and deleted them after reboot.
There also exists a registry entry, HKLM\Software\SnapIn\SMS\Inercepts\<sisr
I tried to delete the SyncManager software link out of the \windows\startup folder and that didn't help.
After I deleted the Voice Command.lnk out of the StartUp, I only got 1 text message.
AND WHY DOES MY HOMESCREEN KEEP SETTING TO THE T-MOBILE BLUE?!?!?
GRRRRRR...
All of these happen after the device boots up. Something is running to initialize everything back to default.

Rename T-MobileBlue.home.xml to T-MobileBlue2.home.xml and your favourite Home screen to T-MobileBlue.home.xml ;-)

Just as an FYI, since installing WM6 beta, my text message usage is through the roof.
Just yesterday alone, my device (not me) sent or received 35 messages.

Have you got any kind of Silent SMS traffic coming to your phone ?
I have the T-Mobile mail manager sending silent SMS triggers to my phone, and I noticed that the SMS's it sends out (identified with 701) were not being processed silently - but were showing up in my inbox.
I have reverted back to the stock build too.
are you using the msn messanger program? i noticed that when i sent our received emails using the windows live account that test messages were being sent so i will sign out of that program
I just checked and I have 17 sms messages sent since installing yesterday. I haven't used any mail or IM program or anything that would rely on SMS.
I am NOT pleased

Hello,
do you have a taskmanager (e.g from binarys) installed ? Which processes (not programms) are running on your phone ?
Thanks, Newchurch

Ok, so I reloaded WM6, and have a dead SIM in, so it won't text/sms. Loaded Binary's Task Manager, and the following "prpcesses" are running:
NK.exe
filesys.exe
device.exe
fexplore.exe
telshell.exe
gwes.exe
My5MsgCente..
connmgr.ege
services.exe
appman.exe
home.exe
cdial.exe
cprog.exe
repplog.exe
SPTaskMgrEN..
siWatcher.exe
siHome.exe
SyncManager...
My5Service.exe
ceipui.exe
voicecmd.exe
Which one is the guilty party?
I have two small questions. Hopefully they are eay to answer though I have had no luck so far finding if the answers are here.
1) In the mail / sms app the left soft key is "delete", can this be changed to "new" as it was in wm5 ?
2) In the nice new HTML email mode I get my emails fine, but the images don't download in the mail. Is it possible to stop each mail promopting and for it just to happen ?
May not be ROM specific but just in case, I am using Schap's WM6 Pro 4.31.
Thanks for reading
Dave
hi Dave, firstly, no you cannot change the button back. Well not that i know of. Annoying.
Secondly, i assume you are connecting to an msexchange 2007 server so that you are actually viewing the mail in html, a lot of people made the mistake of assuming that wm6 would give them html email through their existing ex2003 server.
I am guessing though that the images in the emails are being seen as attachments and are therefore not downloaded until you say so. Maybe you should tick the box to download attachments automatically and limit the size of them to something sensible. Probly dont want to try this unless you have a decent data plan.
Hi,
Thats a shame. I keep deleteing my message when trying to send new ones !
Actually I am not using any server for my mail. I am collecting directly from my ISP using pop3. The message contains a little notification bar just like IE would saying that I should click it download the images.
Someone I know who has this ROM said that there was a reg key i could change and it would do it all automatically.
Cheers for the response.
Hi dmj1973,
I have done quite a bit of Google research on the pocket Outlook issue of not automatically downloading pictures, and there doesn't appear to be a solution. I myself have switched to qmail and no longer have that problem.
Essential Software
Well, I am sure this is a common question with any new phone. I have been trying to transfer some of the applications such as Pocket Plus, MS Streets, etc. from my sister's PPC and I have been unable to do so due to incompatibility. What software do you guys recommend that is compatible for the Dash?
I would like an e-mail software that works over Wi-Fi rather than T-Zones. I do not have the data service from T-Mobile but am constantly covered by Wi-Fi from my school.
In addition, I would like something that would keep my finances in check. I had a software called SplashMoney for the Palm that would synchronize with my bank account everytime I AutoSynched so that my account would automatically be updated. Anything like that for the Dash?
Finally, I am wondering if there is a MS Streets program for the Dash? As a new resident of Boston, I am constantly getting lost in this web of streets. Something to guide me from A to B would be essential.
Thanks again guys...
Using the e-mail on the dash will use the WiFi if you have a WiFi connection. Make sure your e-mail is setup to connect using "The Internet" and it will use WiFi and if you don't it will use T-Zones.
However I would wait for someone else to confirm what I'm saying just to be safe.
Good to hear. Do you know exactly how to set that up?
What e-mail domain are you wanting to setup?
What do you mean by domain? I am using my school's e-mail service with the following information.
pop.ufl.edu
smtp.ufl.edu

Use this to help you setup your account.
Hmm in that case, you may browse around on your schools website and look for directions on how to setup pop3 e-mail programs with your schools e-mail service.
There are a lot of online resources for you to look into, maybe start with http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx -- take a look at sites like http://www.handango.com to get an idea of the software available. Sounds like you're used to homework, you have some more now
Wow guys, thanks. The e-mail is working perfectly. I wish it had the ability of setting up 2 outgoing servers within the same account so that you could just choose what account you'd like to send from, like Outlook on the computer. But having 2 separate accounts isn't too bad.
Thanks again guys.
Voice Recorder
I see a Voice Notes program on the Dash, which will record both sides of a conversation for 60 seconds during a phone call.
However, when you try the Voice Recorder application located in the Accessories folder, it doesn't allow you to record during a phone call. The record option is simply unresponsive. But, as soon as the call ends (even when you are still in the app), you're allowed to record.
My question -- if someone knowledgable about these things would be so gracious enough to answer -- is this: Could there be a registry entry that allows you to record during conversations?
Just poking around I found a binary for: HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/Recorder
I have no idea what it's for. Maybe this can't be done? Thanks in advance.
(p.s. I know there are legal implications about this in certain states, etc. with notifying the other party. But sometimes when you're on the phone in a place you can't take notes and you're receiving directions, important info, phone numbers, etc. it would be so nice to simply say "hold on a sec, i wan't to record this.")
Voice Notes as the name implies is for taking voice notes, not for recording a conversation.
Vocal data going through the modem is not handled by this application.
That would actually be a good idea. Having directions recorded would be a major life saver. I'm sure someone will be able to tweak around it.
Just use this instead: http://1800message.com/SPWM5CallRec.cab
website for free downloads for dash
does anybody know a good website where i can download free programs for the days? thanks in advance
omar
www.dashsmartzone.com.
Thats actually how I found this board.
this will work on ur phone...
www.surrealnetworks.com/mpx
Here is a direct link.

It says MDA but all of the apps on the page are for Smartphone Edition. Trust me it's a favorite on my dash.
thats weird, cuz when i tried downloading them, none of those programs would work? do i have to do something first?
When linked to my Exchange server. It's strange though, since my Htc Hero has no issues whatsoever with this. I can begin to type any name in the To: field and it start suggesting receivers. Now with the Desire, I get no name completion/suggestions whatsoever. It does however work in the recipient fields in for example the SMS application.
Anybody else experience this?
Running 2.1-update1 as is.
Thanks in advance.
Hi jivebunny,
Mine suggests names just fine (from history usage or from my contacts). What is does not do is to suggest names from the full corporate directory (this could take a lot of network/time if you have a big corporate directory). If you want to do that, click the little person icon next to the "to:" list and you can search your corporate directory.
John
Hi John,
Thanks for the reply, this is what I also found, yet how do you control these settings? I've synced my contacts onto the phone through activesync (or does it not work like that anymore?), yet it will suggest nothing when it comes to emails. If I indeed press the little contactperson I get corporate contacts as base, and clicking that again leads to device contacts. Is there a way to change the default setting for that?
I'd rather it not search through the corporate list, since it's big and slow indeed.
I searched and tried a lot of things, but no option found for this.
Thanks again!
I've spent a fair chunk of time looking for a resolution to this problem here and all over the web but have failed. So, here goes...
When someone sends out a (Outlook) meeting cancellation request, it comes via email but there are no options presented that would allow removal of the meeting from my calendar. On the contrary, when I get a new meeting request, I am able to respond with an accept, decline, etc. Am I missing something?
you're not missing anything... same happens to me on my WP7 phone as well as my Android device. my workaround is to find the meeting on my calendar and manually delete it.
Wow, that sounds ridiculous! I am coming from a Win Mobile 6 device and do not recall ever having such an issue... Lets hope the next update takes care of this
Deleting Attendee(s) / Adding ad-hoc email address
Also, under WM6.x I was able to remove an attendee from a calendar entry. I cannot see any function for this. Highly annoying because if I accidentally pick the wrong contact then I have to start the meeting creation over again. Breaking the meeting creation process into two parts (meeting, then attendee association) is a partial solution but still inefficient. Especially if you are adding a lot of attendees and goof up the last one.
Oh, and not being able to add an ad-hoc email address in the attendee section is irritating. Having to create the address in your contacts/people hub first is annoying and I might not want them in there permanently.
Scratch that last moan about not being able to delete an attendee - it's hidden behind the WP7 "press and hold' trick.
