(possible fix) proximity sensor - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So many ZF2 have this problem until after the MM update as mine did too.
Disassemble your phone
Turn it on
Place a call
Press the part that I signalled in the picture I uploaded
With your other hand place it in front of the sensor
Then remove it
If it works then its just that the sensor is kind of loose (I guess cause of heat or whatever reason)
What I did to fix mine is cut a piece of electric tape and fold it (not too thick cause then the housing doesnt fully close)
Place it where the RED SQUARE is in the picture and assemble your phone again PROFIT :highfive:

proximity sensor with GlassZone

hello everyone,
Ive ordered the GZ after reading recommendation on it here. i got it couple weeks ago and installed it.
however i have a problem with the proximity sensor...
every call that im making the screen turned off right away.
i dialed *#0*# and choose the sensor option and the phone turned green and vibrate (meaning something is covering the sensors)
i removed it, cleaned it over and over and again... still the same..
what i noticed is that when im getting the phone really close to light ball the screen turned to white, (what its normally should be)
downloaded the proximity sensor app and saw 0.0CM
and when its close to light then its 8.0CM (normally should be)
Im posting some pictures , maby im missing something
thanks in advance,

anyone?
Have my black glasszone on my 8.0cm device and it works.
It seems like you installed it a little off.
There are two sensors (light and proximity) near the camera, there should be more space in the RIGHT side (camera) side.
That has to be re-installed.
Tried that with mine, when aligned in the center i faced the same problem. (Don't keep removing the protector many times, adhesive will fail).
I have a white one and a black one, I had no problems when the white one was on and have not had any problems since I switched to the black one.
I love them both.
hi,
thanks for your comments,
I moved it a bit to the right where the front camera is, and still the same...

Maybe I am not having this problem because mine is 5.0cm... I don't know if that matters.
does the proximity sensor are SO sensitive?
Maby i got a bad one? :crying:
Perhaps it's light reflecting between the screen protector and the proximity sensor. When people bought the XGear screen protector some had a problem with the reflectivity of the white screen protector. Perhaps a darkening of the area around proximity sensor on the underside of the screen protector is necessary? But in the photos it looks like you have a black screen protector so I'm not sure, maybe it's a reflection from the white base of the phone underneath?

I had the same issue like you before when applied skin cover for the front. You may not apply Glasszone probably. Taking it off will definitely solve the problem, you may want to try clean the proximity sensor and see whether it works.
And my advice based on my own problem, do not apply anything on the front; cause it will make your proximity sensor not function sooner or later. Hope this will help
Sorry for the crap picture, X10
No problems with mine, and mine is the 8 sensor.
Did someone got the black cover for a white phone?

Here's a trick I found on this forum. Use a black sharpie and carefully shade the area surrounding the proximity sensor. Be careful not to get any ink on the glass part.

Hi, ive tried it with another brand of CD/DVD writer, and the result was that it looks like some drops of water or something not solid on the phone,
does it have to be black sharpie ?

Crash, smash!!

Hi guys,
Little sad story here.
After not even 10 days of life my Galaxy Note 2 fell from my bedside table face down onto tiled floor and smashed the front glass! (my cat did that, I know it's was on purpose, that's why I now have a cat fur bedside mat).
I'm ordering a new front screen glass as the display and everything still works fine.
Only thing, which is weird, running a system test it shows the proximity sensor stuck to far. I did notice that during calls the screen would not switch off. Before the crash the proximity sensor worked fine.
What do you think the reason might be? I am attaching a picture of the phone. Do you guys think the cracks on top of the two sensors near the front camera might "confuse" the proximity sensor?
Thanks for any idea you may have...
Also, I will update you on the front screen replacement and its results.. Fingers crossed...
Cheers!

First off, feel very sad for you pal.
I'm quite sure that the proximity sensor is damaged from the fall, so you might have to ask your SC to check it once when you'll go to replace the front glass.
Besides, another shatter story, shows this device's build quality is sub par. No device should break, let alone shatter, from a fall like that, one or two dents would be more than enough. What was the Gorilla doing when it hit the surface anyway?
Swyped from my GT-N7100
looking at the picture hurts my heart!
but yeah like jujuburi said, the fall might have dislodged or damaged the proximity sensor. It could also be the crack over the sensor, because the glass is no longer aligned, it could possibly be confusing the device but rather unlikely.
Its obvious that the crack in front of the proximity sensor is messing with it. Under direct sunlight you should be able to look at the proximity sensor and see if its not aligned otherwise its just the crack.
Sent from the Rabbit Hole
It will be the crack for sure... It will affect the light getting to the sensor

Wow sorry for your somewhat loss! I will cry if this happens to mine, best I take insurance I guess :fingers-crossed:

Second left from the front facing camera .
R: Crash, smash!!
Thank you all for your input.
I have noticed that the proximity sensor still works, as it is sufficient to put the phone near a really bright light to get the screen to turn on again. It's just a bit fidgety to do that and end the conversations...
Still waiting for the new glass to arrive from Hong Kong, we'll see what happens next...
Regarding the fall, the phone was connected to the charger and was facing down on the bedside table as the LED stays on after finishing charging and that morning it was annoying me enough...
The bedside table is about 60 to 70cm tall and the floor is made of old terracotta tiles, very hard and uneven: I guess one of the tiles corners must have contributed to the damage.
I agree that the Gorilla glass should be a bit more resistant but just a few days before the smash, a friend dropped it while he grabbed it and it literally flew across the room and hit a hard floor and it was perfectly fine afterwards, not even a scratch!
Mystery...
Will update you all when u get the new glass.
Anyone has some good tips about how to replace it? I have seen some YouTube videos about it and, although time consuming, it seems possible...
Only thing I don't understand clearly, will the screen glue back on afterwards? Or is there anything I need to know about it?
Thanks!
G

Mine dropped from two feet and hairline cracked across the whole screen. I bought the full assembly LCD/digitizer. Did the repair per LE55ONS Youtube video. AOK now. afterwards, I tried to pry apart the digitizer glass. In my Note II it is bonded with transparent gum covering the entire LCD. No way to replace only the digitizer on my version of the Note II (I317)
Mine cost $USD 250
Your crack is right over the sensor, so I would expect the sensor itself is fine.
The digitizer glass is the Achilles heel of the device. The rest of it seems normally robust.
I think the glass is so big that it can crack from a twist as well as a drop.
And the glass is very scratch resistant, but very thin and brittle.

Sorry to hear that...
I got it from eBay from China for the equivalent of about 40USD...
Here's a link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Screen-...182&pid=100011&prg=1095&rk=1&sd=181060192621&
managed to replace the glass and working well now. Only problem is that in the process of detaching the broken glass I messed up the adhesive around the back and menu buttons so I need to get new one too. The new screen sits raised because of the extra thickness of the messed adhesive so touch responsiveness is not great but will be fixed as soon as the new adhesive arrives.
Also, here's how it looks after the big job..

Well, hey man, kudos to you...
First thing I do when I get a touchscreen device is place a screen protector on it; and I regard that as a pretty major hassle as far as annoying hassles go. Yet you seem to have done a near flawless job with something as crucial as replacing the screen itself; I'm impressed. Hope you get that last little fixed as well, mate.
(On a side note, even with the screen protector I managed to screw up and there's a tiny air bubble just between the home button and the screen itself... So it's invisible when the phone's in use but just annoying enough to notice when the screen is off and the contrast between the black screen and the grey bubble is more obvious).
i really sorry to hear that. hope you can manage your behavior to a better one.

Or simply your proximity connector is loose inside your phone after the cat crash. If you are going to replace the screen yourself, make sure you check all the connectors inside your phone.
From my own opinion, the sensor not damaged but just the crack just across the sensor, just change the glass and our will be fixed, but as what i know, it's not a easy job to change the glass, as it glued together with the display, hope you will manage to change the glass if success, please share us your experience here

Gorilla Glass isn't shatter or crack resistant, it's designed to be scratch resistant. It's hardness actually makes it more prone to cracking.

[Q] Digitizer won't function properly after repair(shorting with LCD)

So I recently replaced both the lcd and the digitizer(bought separately from ebay).
I tested the phone every step of the reassembly, and everything was working fine until I put the whole thing inside the back cover. That was when the digitizer, for some reason(mainly that I didn't apply any additional glue), popped off.
And then I noticed that it won't work if I put it back in, but would work if I pull it up and away from the phone!
I have taken the whole thing apart, and while testing, I noticed that the digitizer won't work if it's on the lcd. I placed a piece of see-through plastic in between, and it is functional even when resting on the lcd. I could pull the plastic half way down the screen and it would still work but after that I can't be sure.
So what can I do, apart from ordering a new lcd/digitizer assembly? Can I place tape on the sides of the digitizer?
Thanks in advance
Alright so I have a simular problem right now. I think its the glue/adhesive isnt working properly. Try a heatgun or hair-dryer to heat up the screen enough to activate the adhesive and add weight to the glass until the glue dries.

I don't see any adhesive on neither of them! But even if they were heat activated, how are you supposed to line them up? there are no edges or lines for the lcd's placement on the digitizer!
I would try putting them inside the chassis and do it then but I've put quite a lot of very strong glue on there and I'm pretty sure that they won't come off undamaged! So I need to be sure before I put them back in!
You try that and let me know how it turns out :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

You were supposed to apply adhesive strips to connect the digitizer to the LCD

The lcd doesn't have an edge to glue something to.
I put everything inside and it's working now! I have a contacting area in the middle of the screen but it is what it is.
The screen is functional and that's all I care about
Thanks anyway

I would recommend appling the adhesive stips. they are only 2mm wide so you can easily apply it to the bezel of the glass digitizer. If your LCD isnt sitting properly between the inner housing and the digitizer it could damage the actual LCD this time.

Proximity Sensor Issue

Recently I got my digitizer replaced and now the proximity sensor isn't responding. I opened the back panel and tried to seat the sensor properly but none of that helped. The Proximity sensor finder app value stays at 0.0 cm (i.e. something is blocking up the sensor ). Due to this the display goes off as soon as I answer the call and does not become active until the other person disconnects.
Anyone with hardware experience Please Help

To solve this problem, you have to be on miui stock Rom, but i prefer to use MIUI 6 by syhost as all the menu are in English while they are in chinese on Stock Rom.. Here are the steps-
1. Dial *#*#6484#*#* or *#*#64663#*#*
2. Choose Option no. 8 (this is proximity sensor calibration)
3. Hold your phone upright- you will see, the numeric no of 0.00 then, cover the sensor area with your hand and take away until you see the numeric no. changed to 5.02 something like that..
4. If the no has changed, that means your problem has been solved.
5. Exit...
6. Enjoy and feel like you got a new phone...
Solved it

I agree, it's not a major issue, I was thinking to take of the screen completley and reglue it using some duble sided tape... But there is a risk of breaking the screen in the proces... It's not worth it
What about putting duck tape across top and bottom of the screen? Don't forget to make holes for loudspeaker, front camera and proximity sensor. And for microphone and fingerprint at bottom
So, you're all saying that tbe whole screen is moving a bit in the case? Check teardown and you'll see that is actually glued. Not my favorite solution but I suppose is cost effective.

Bought a screen off eBay, yes you need to heat up the glue underneath the screen with a heat gun.
Got the new screen in after I had to remove all the small piece of glass that was still glued but it's not an easy repair and I still have screen issues I assume the screen isn't the same quality as the original one which comes with a silver backing plate.
In bright sunlight my screen turns blue
The battery maybe will never die, because a bigger LiPo much longer live as a small one and we just load again all 2 or 3 days. So that's ok that's build in. Maybe the screen is much earlier broken. Hope it doesn't broke
My battery has 3600mAh(3597)

If you observe carefully just above volume up button screen is not even inside the aluminum frame there is slight gap. And if you apply little pressure screen goes down. Is this normal ?
