Proximity Sensor Issue - Xiaomi Redmi 1S

Recently I got my digitizer replaced and now the proximity sensor isn't responding. I opened the back panel and tried to seat the sensor properly but none of that helped. The Proximity sensor finder app value stays at 0.0 cm (i.e. something is blocking up the sensor ). Due to this the display goes off as soon as I answer the call and does not become active until the other person disconnects.
Anyone with hardware experience Please Help

Is your screenguard blocking the sensor....????

To solve this problem, you have to be on miui stock Rom, but i prefer to use MIUI 6 by syhost as all the menu are in English while they are in chinese on Stock Rom.. Here are the steps-
1. Dial *#*#6484#*#* or *#*#64663#*#*
2. Choose Option no. 8 (this is proximity sensor calibration)
3. Hold your phone upright- you will see, the numeric no of 0.00 then, cover the sensor area with your hand and take away until you see the numeric no. changed to 5.02 something like that..
4. If the no has changed, that means your problem has been solved.
5. Exit...
6. Enjoy and feel like you got a new phone...

Solved it
As I replaced the digitizer there was a gap b/w the screen and the digitizer causing this issue. Glued it with araldite and Volaaa..it worked
but now facing another issue.....There maybe a gap somewhere which is allowing dust to go inside and now its all dusty inside. Any help ??

[Q] Touch Pro 2 Screen calibration failed ?

Hi everybody,
I have problem with my HTC Touch Pro 2.
It was fully working until I damaged my LCD screen and digitizer.
So I ordered a new one LCD and digitizer from ebay. I changed old lcd and digitizer, booted up my HTC and everything looked allright. But problem came soon. Touch screen can't recognize my touch exactly. For example, if I click on something, digitizer solve it allways about 2-3mm higher. So I can't click on start, battery and every other click is moved about 2-3mm higher.
I made a calibration, but without any effect. I made a hard reset and than a calibration, problem still same.
And if try to make a new calibration (after first calibration after HR), I click on first cross (in the middle of screen), then up-left corner, down-left corner, down-right corner, up-right corner and nothing happens, I have to click on first cross again... and whole procedure again... So I have to make a HR and try to make a new calibration... still same problem.
Could anybody help me please? I'm going crazy, because I like my HTC and I can't use it anymore.
Is there any other way to make a calibration or how can I repair it?
ROM:
Energy.RHODIUM.29022.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.Jul.04.7z
(I have this ROM before I damaged LCD screen, any it worked fine)
It almost sounds like the screen/digitizer aren't lined up correctly... Just my .02.

Thanks for reply.
Ok, then It seems to be a HW problem between screen and digitizer?
So what can I do now? Try to repair it again?
How can I check, if digitizer is OK? or could be digitizer bad at all?

I'm just guessing from your description. I've never actually replaced the screen... If the two have to line up perfectly, I would ensure they are lined up correctly. Perhaps try slightly moving the digitizer down...

Ok, thanks. But I can't move with a digitizer, because it is in fixed position. Maybe I can move with a screen under a digitizer, but then I will not be able to see whole screen (digitizer has a black edge/margin/border).
Any other suggestion?

Nope, all I got. Calibration always works perfectly for me - if calibration doesn't work, there certainly must be some hardware problem. You replaced the screen, unfortunately you must establish where the hardware issue lies.
I don't have any help for you, sorry, just jumping on the wagon. My touch screen worked fine for a year but is now way off (1.5-2 inches sometimes) without having damaged the screen to my knowledge. I've switched roms (from MR.X to Mighty) and hard reset. If I try to calibrate it just keeps running through the process. Should I try to replace the digitizer? I plan on getting an iPhone if possible on Sprint in the coming month but would like to sell this for at least a little bit.
To both of you guys - have you ensured there's nothing between the screen or digitizer? Nothing that is wedged on the edge of the screen...?
I know some had reported complete screen failures just from some gunk that got wedged on the side of the screen.

Thought about that, but dismissed the tiny little amounts of gunk on the edge..currently searching for a toothpick or something small to clean out the edge. Thanks for the idea! Will report back.
Thanks so much arrrghhh! Found a small pin and got out most of the dust/gunk that was between one side of my phone. Apparently that bezel side is just a little bit looser. You saved me lots of time and money! Thanks. Always helpful on here and PPCGeeks.
Edit #2: Must still be more junk because the 100% functionality just went away. Time to clean it again

Problem with my desire's talking screen sensor

hey guys
I have a problem with my phone
when I call someone or my phone gets in call situation ,
as usual , when you hold your phone near your ear , it should automatically turns of the phone's screen .
but in my desire , after I answer the phone or call someone , the screen goes off immediately but it continues calling or answering .
and it wouldn't turn on , till you face the screen to the bright light like sun or close to the lamp.
is there any way to fix this problem ?
or is there any way to disable this sensor ?
Hello.
I have read about some people fixing their proximity sensor issues by vacuuming the "gap" between the screen's glass and the phone's frame in the sensor area. It seems that somehow dust manages to slip behind the glass and accumulate on the sensor.
If the above procedure does not work, you may have a faulty sensor. AFAIK, the sensor can not be disabled. Maybe some more savvy members will help if the know of a way.

how should i clean the gap between the screen's glass and the phone's frame in the sensor area ??
i said disable the sensor , but i meant disable the sensor by software or flash a edited ROM on my phone .
OK, i'll try to be more specific then. From what i've read on the Internet, some proximity sensor related issues are caused by dust accumulating on the sensor. Apparently dust manages to slip through the gap between the screen's glass and the phone's frame. Some people reportedly managed to restore full proximity sensor function by vacuuming the dust off the sensor with a vacuum cleaner. They have carefully vacuumed the gap between the glass screen and the phone's frame, in the proximity sensor area (top-left of the phone, while held in portrait mode). So what i meant in the earlier post was to CLEAN the sensor with the vacuum cleaner, not DISABLE it.
From what i've read, the proximity sensor cannot be disabled. Also, some proximity sensor issues are related to defective mainboards. If vacuuming does not do the trick for you, you might wanna take your phone to a service for repairs/to have it checked out.
Good luck!

Download application from www.Revolutionary.io
Remember the beta key they give you.
Ensure that fastboot drivers (obtained from revolutionary wiki) and htc drivers are installed and htc sync is not installed.
Run the application and follow all instructions.
Flash Su.zip via recovery.
I believe this should be the steps.

Here's another guy who has solved his proximity sensor issue by just cleaning it (he did it not by sucking dust off the sensor but by blowing it off).
There's no tutorial for this as it's a no-brainer.
Or once rooted, type,
ro.proximity.delay=0
in build.prop.
:-D
I still don't get it. Why disable the sensor when all it might need is an easy cleaning job? Just use a vacuum cleaner to vacuum the area marked in the attached photo (use a hand to form a tight seal and prevent the vacuum cleaner's pipe to scratch your phone) or use an air pump intended for cleaning photographic cameras and such to blow air in said area. If this operation fails, only then disable the sensor.
Later Edit - It's not the actual "gap" that needs to be cleaned; by blowing/sucking air in/from that area you're actually blowing away/sucking dust on the sensor.

Hi folks,
I have this exact same problem; I have tried every type of vacuuming and blowing I could get my hands on, but so far nothing's worked. I resolved to disable the sensor, and I tried what the quoted post says, but the sensor is still active (and malfunctioning). I am running CyanogenMod-7.1.0-Desire.

proximity sensor with GlassZone

hello everyone,
Ive ordered the GZ after reading recommendation on it here. i got it couple weeks ago and installed it.
however i have a problem with the proximity sensor...
every call that im making the screen turned off right away.
i dialed *#0*# and choose the sensor option and the phone turned green and vibrate (meaning something is covering the sensors)
i removed it, cleaned it over and over and again... still the same..
what i noticed is that when im getting the phone really close to light ball the screen turned to white, (what its normally should be)
downloaded the proximity sensor app and saw 0.0CM
and when its close to light then its 8.0CM (normally should be)
Im posting some pictures , maby im missing something
thanks in advance,

anyone?
Have my black glasszone on my 8.0cm device and it works.
It seems like you installed it a little off.
There are two sensors (light and proximity) near the camera, there should be more space in the RIGHT side (camera) side.
That has to be re-installed.
Tried that with mine, when aligned in the center i faced the same problem. (Don't keep removing the protector many times, adhesive will fail).
I have a white one and a black one, I had no problems when the white one was on and have not had any problems since I switched to the black one.
I love them both.
hi,
thanks for your comments,
I moved it a bit to the right where the front camera is, and still the same...

Maybe I am not having this problem because mine is 5.0cm... I don't know if that matters.
does the proximity sensor are SO sensitive?
Maby i got a bad one? :crying:
Perhaps it's light reflecting between the screen protector and the proximity sensor. When people bought the XGear screen protector some had a problem with the reflectivity of the white screen protector. Perhaps a darkening of the area around proximity sensor on the underside of the screen protector is necessary? But in the photos it looks like you have a black screen protector so I'm not sure, maybe it's a reflection from the white base of the phone underneath?

I had the same issue like you before when applied skin cover for the front. You may not apply Glasszone probably. Taking it off will definitely solve the problem, you may want to try clean the proximity sensor and see whether it works.
And my advice based on my own problem, do not apply anything on the front; cause it will make your proximity sensor not function sooner or later. Hope this will help
Sorry for the crap picture, X10

Crash, smash!!

Hi guys,
Little sad story here.
After not even 10 days of life my Galaxy Note 2 fell from my bedside table face down onto tiled floor and smashed the front glass! (my cat did that, I know it's was on purpose, that's why I now have a cat fur bedside mat).
I'm ordering a new front screen glass as the display and everything still works fine.
Only thing, which is weird, running a system test it shows the proximity sensor stuck to far. I did notice that during calls the screen would not switch off. Before the crash the proximity sensor worked fine.
What do you think the reason might be? I am attaching a picture of the phone. Do you guys think the cracks on top of the two sensors near the front camera might "confuse" the proximity sensor?
Thanks for any idea you may have...
Also, I will update you on the front screen replacement and its results.. Fingers crossed...
Cheers!

First off, feel very sad for you pal.
I'm quite sure that the proximity sensor is damaged from the fall, so you might have to ask your SC to check it once when you'll go to replace the front glass.
Besides, another shatter story, shows this device's build quality is sub par. No device should break, let alone shatter, from a fall like that, one or two dents would be more than enough. What was the Gorilla doing when it hit the surface anyway?
Swyped from my GT-N7100
looking at the picture hurts my heart!
but yeah like jujuburi said, the fall might have dislodged or damaged the proximity sensor. It could also be the crack over the sensor, because the glass is no longer aligned, it could possibly be confusing the device but rather unlikely.
Its obvious that the crack in front of the proximity sensor is messing with it. Under direct sunlight you should be able to look at the proximity sensor and see if its not aligned otherwise its just the crack.
Sent from the Rabbit Hole
It will be the crack for sure... It will affect the light getting to the sensor

Wow sorry for your somewhat loss! I will cry if this happens to mine, best I take insurance I guess :fingers-crossed:

Second left from the front facing camera .
R: Crash, smash!!
Thank you all for your input.
I have noticed that the proximity sensor still works, as it is sufficient to put the phone near a really bright light to get the screen to turn on again. It's just a bit fidgety to do that and end the conversations...
Still waiting for the new glass to arrive from Hong Kong, we'll see what happens next...
Regarding the fall, the phone was connected to the charger and was facing down on the bedside table as the LED stays on after finishing charging and that morning it was annoying me enough...
The bedside table is about 60 to 70cm tall and the floor is made of old terracotta tiles, very hard and uneven: I guess one of the tiles corners must have contributed to the damage.
I agree that the Gorilla glass should be a bit more resistant but just a few days before the smash, a friend dropped it while he grabbed it and it literally flew across the room and hit a hard floor and it was perfectly fine afterwards, not even a scratch!
Mystery...
Will update you all when u get the new glass.
Anyone has some good tips about how to replace it? I have seen some YouTube videos about it and, although time consuming, it seems possible...
Only thing I don't understand clearly, will the screen glue back on afterwards? Or is there anything I need to know about it?
Thanks!
G

Mine dropped from two feet and hairline cracked across the whole screen. I bought the full assembly LCD/digitizer. Did the repair per LE55ONS Youtube video. AOK now. afterwards, I tried to pry apart the digitizer glass. In my Note II it is bonded with transparent gum covering the entire LCD. No way to replace only the digitizer on my version of the Note II (I317)
Mine cost $USD 250
Your crack is right over the sensor, so I would expect the sensor itself is fine.
The digitizer glass is the Achilles heel of the device. The rest of it seems normally robust.
I think the glass is so big that it can crack from a twist as well as a drop.
And the glass is very scratch resistant, but very thin and brittle.

Sorry to hear that...
I got it from eBay from China for the equivalent of about 40USD...
Here's a link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Screen-...182&pid=100011&prg=1095&rk=1&sd=181060192621&
managed to replace the glass and working well now. Only problem is that in the process of detaching the broken glass I messed up the adhesive around the back and menu buttons so I need to get new one too. The new screen sits raised because of the extra thickness of the messed adhesive so touch responsiveness is not great but will be fixed as soon as the new adhesive arrives.
Also, here's how it looks after the big job..

Well, hey man, kudos to you...
First thing I do when I get a touchscreen device is place a screen protector on it; and I regard that as a pretty major hassle as far as annoying hassles go. Yet you seem to have done a near flawless job with something as crucial as replacing the screen itself; I'm impressed. Hope you get that last little fixed as well, mate.
(On a side note, even with the screen protector I managed to screw up and there's a tiny air bubble just between the home button and the screen itself... So it's invisible when the phone's in use but just annoying enough to notice when the screen is off and the contrast between the black screen and the grey bubble is more obvious).
i really sorry to hear that. hope you can manage your behavior to a better one.

Only thing, which is weird, running a system test it shows the proximity sensor stuck to far. I did notice that during calls the screen would not switch off. Before the crash the proximity sensor worked fine.

Or simply your proximity connector is loose inside your phone after the cat crash. If you are going to replace the screen yourself, make sure you check all the connectors inside your phone.
From my own opinion, the sensor not damaged but just the crack just across the sensor, just change the glass and our will be fixed, but as what i know, it's not a easy job to change the glass, as it glued together with the display, hope you will manage to change the glass if success, please share us your experience here

Gorilla Glass isn't shatter or crack resistant, it's designed to be scratch resistant. It's hardness actually makes it more prone to cracking.

(possible fix) proximity sensor

So many ZF2 have this problem until after the MM update as mine did too.
Disassemble your phone
Turn it on
Place a call
Press the part that I signalled in the picture I uploaded
With your other hand place it in front of the sensor
Then remove it
If it works then its just that the sensor is kind of loose (I guess cause of heat or whatever reason)
What I did to fix mine is cut a piece of electric tape and fold it (not too thick cause then the housing doesnt fully close)
Place it where the RED SQUARE is in the picture and assemble your phone again PROFIT :highfive:
