[ROOT[RECOVERY] Loki + TWRP + Motochopper CASUAL-R527b release:27May13 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Android Development

Update: This will not work on Build Number I337UCUAMF3
Thanks to Dan Rosenberg, aka @djrbliss, this device can now be unlocked and CASUAL can make it easy as all get out.
Introduction
CASUAL will guide you through the process. Put your device into “Developer Mode>USB Debugging”. Click the do it button. If you experience a problem, PLEASE USE THE PASTEBIN button to post a log. CTRL+L>Pastebin> come back here and press ctrl+V.
Overview
You will need to download and execute the CASUAL application below. Then click the Do It! button. You need Java. Do you have Java?.
note: if it fails, try turning everything off and back on, then run it again before posting for help, and remember... Log or it didn't happen, CTRL+L->Pastebin.
Windows 32/64 Users: CASUAL will put your device into Download Mode. It will automatically flash everything. If drivers are required, jrloper's CADI (CASUAL Automated Driver installer) will handle it. Make sure you're connected to the internet.
Windows 8 is supported but you must install drivers for Download Mode first. See this post
We managed to squeeze in support for Windows XP. Let me know how it works XP users.
Linux 32/64/raspberry pi Users There may be a permission escalation in order to install heimdall, either way sit back and relax. CASUAL automates the entire process. Please run the following in a terminal first:
Code:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk gksu dpkg
Mac Users: Mac works easier than any other system at the time of this systems. Some Macs (especially Macbook Air) have a problem with USB port voltages and that causes the device not to be recognized.
Download
Root and Recovery for ATT-TMO GS4-CASUAL-R527b CASUAL is used to automate the process. The exploit was developed by Recognized Developer djrbliss. Any donations should go to him. I'm just here for error logs. To run CASUAL you need Java. Do you have Java?
For Nightly CASUAL builds go here: http://goo.im/devs/AdamOutler/i337-GalaxyS4
Help and Troubleshooting
Are you having a problem? First check this post out for remedial troubleshooting. . If that doesn't fix it, then press CTRL+L, press the Pastebin button, come back here and press CTRL+V to paste your log. Don't hit the donate button, that doesn't fix it. Use CTRL+L and then hit Pastebin and paste the log here if you need help. Most problems simply require you to reboot your device or computer or removing and "delete driver" any drivers you installed. If you installed drivers to start with, remove them (and delete driver from device manager), because this device is fully supported natively by Windows and 3rd party drivers cause problems.

About CASUAL
CASUAL stands for Cross-platform Android Scripting, Univeral Auxiliary Loader. CASUAL jar files are a wrapper for the CASUAL scripting language. CASUAL can be modified with your favorite zip tool and full source code (including this exploit) is available at http://android-casual.googlecode.com . CASUAL allows rapid and accurate deployment of hacks and exploits. At any time, if a serious problem is detected with any script, the kill-switch will be flipped and you will be brought to a support page (most likely here) so you can download the latest version. Otherwise for minor corrections, new CASUAL scripts can be deployed remotely.

This uses @djrbliss 's Loki Exploit. From what I've read TWRP will auto-lok anything you flash. It is practically the same as a bootloader unlock.

Can someone tell me the difference between this and bhp090808's one click 3 way tool?

i believe this does it all; it will root your phone; unlock the boot loader and install TWRP; the other one you have to have your phone rooted already and then pick which recovery you want to install (cmw or twrp)

This installs drivers
This troubleshoots problems
This single java executable works on Linux, Windows and Mac
This can be kill-switched on the fly (in case of auto-bootloader update from Samsung)
This can be updated on the fly
This will auto-log your problems to pastebin if an error is encountered so you can paste it here.
This uses a GUI and no command line
This give you Root and Recovery in a single click
This is easier/noob friendly/much more difficult to screw up.
This will check before doing things to make sure it doesn't damage a device it was not intended for.
I'm pretty sure I missed a few points.. CASUAL R527 stands for Cross-platform Android Scripting and Unified Auxilliary Loader - Revision 527.. We've been working on a lot of things that you just can't get from a simple batch file.

edit. Sorry I did not see your reply.

Sorry bro, Replied before I saw your explanation. Thanks for your hard work!

cant wait to here some reviews before trying it; give it a day or two to make sure there are no bugs; can you always odin back to factory image?

There will always be the following problems:
User is using a bad USB cable/USB port and something didn't transfer
User has installed bad drivers on the computer and the device won't connect.
User has installed a virus scanner which wipes out the Android exploits before they are deployed to the device.
so just use a good USB cable. Uninstall any drivers you installed "for samsung mobile devices" especially, Disable your virus scanner before downloading CASUAL. I don't think the driver issue will be a massive problem as it is with the other devices because we're not using Odin mode here.

I prefer the KISS method. I'd rather have one known working CASUAL script to maintain and be able to repackage around any errors encountered. One app, one branch. it keeps things simple and there's no explaining necessary. If someone wants CWM, they can use the Android market to install Rom Manager. Otherwise, if there is a problem with TWRP, I can switch to CWM on this device.

I've been following all your hard work Adam, and I just wanted to say thank you. Its nice to see amazing developers stick around when sometimes they are bashed for their work. Thanks!

Hello all,
Aspiring dev here, wanted to try my hand at porting a rom.
The rom I have ported is classicnerd ICS. The teams website is www.classicnerd.net. It started as a tweaked version of CM7 for the HP TouchPad, and now they have moved on to using their own source, so I thought I'd attempt to port it.
Classicnerd is mainly an AOSP rom, but with init tweaks aimed at making the UI very fluid and smooth, hence the "butta" name. Try it out, and let me know of anything that is wrong or that needs fixing etc.
When you long press the power button to bring up the power menu, DO NOT tap reboot into recovery. You'll have to unbrick your kindle. I am going to remove this option from the rom.
Credit and thanks go to:
Hashcode for his kernel (versions 0.0.1 and 0.0.2)
InterceptRaven for his modded kernel (0.0.3+)
classicnerd for the source
cyanogenmod for various tweaks in the rom
TheDoctor for trusting me with his Fire to test these roms before I release them.
I want to give a special thanks to aaricchavez for spending a lot of time with me and actually being the one to figure out what was going on with the port. Thanks!
Not working:
H/W Video decoding
USB storage (working on it)
Things to come:
Custom wallpapers (I'm aware it has HP wallpapers lol)
Correct boot animation
Further tweaks.
Bug fixes
As always, I am not responsible if it asplodes your Fire, etc etc.
PLEASE MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP IN TWRP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE!!
Flash this in recovery like any other rom.
Please be courteous and definitely leave me feedback.

Presumably this is the same issues as if you reboot into recovery from the ROM in CM7 while running TWRP: the device will than not reboot back to normal mode, but instead loops into recovery every time you reboot.
If that is the case than using CWM will resolve that. The issue is in the reboot wrappers in the recovery itself not the ROM. The DooMLoRD has added a set of scripts to the ramdisk that correct the reboot wrappers so that you can properly boot back to normal mode, fastboot or recovery on command. In short; CWM should work just fine (I have not tested it yet). Basically in summation TWRP has the wrong reboot wrappers for the kindle and therefor does not re-assign the bootmode properly to remove itself from recovery.

Doomlord has the scripts in the ramdisk of his boot image he uses on his kernel?
On another note, I'm running intersectRavens kernel right now, and it seems to be working very well.

I'll be honest I don't entirely understand ramdisks lol... Having said that I know that the recovery resides in the ramdisk and the kernel utilizes the ramdisk but technically speaking the ramdisk is not part of the kernel. I know when you build a boot.img or a recovery.img both are accompanied with a ramdisk so I would assume that the recovery and normal boot functions exist in separate locations of the ramdis, subsequently it doesn't matter what kernel you are using so long as you flash the correct recovery.img
DooMLoRD has all the scripts needed in the ramdisk files in his recovery tree
I imported the bootable_recovery part of that to my CM7 manifest and the parts needed for the ramdisk (the reboot wrappers primarily) I imported into my device tree for the kindle
Basically the point is you should be able to reboot out of recovery if you are using CWM and you chose recovery from the ROM
Oke. Cleaned as per OP request.

I was curious to if you'd be able to clean up one of my threads.
Here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527046
I was wondering if you can remove all the posts from #3 all the way to #123, as all these posts are just me and some other users attempting to get the port booting. Now that it's fixed, I'd love to have the thread cleaned up if that's not to much trouble. Thanks!

What it the problem with USB mounting? Does the notification show up?
(Which device tree are you using btw?)
The problem with the usb notification was that for tablets it is not implemented in AOSP (only for phones), the commit to enable it should be somewhere in https://github.com/KFire-Android/android_frameworks_base/commits/ics in the SystemUI/src folder.

I don't remember a "connected as installer" message, we also don't use MTP anymore, only mass_storage (but it worked for me with MTP on linux). Have a look into the /frameworks/base/packages/SystemUI/src/com/android/systemui/statusbar/tablet/ folder, only found this commit right now.

Forgot to say thank you, I appreciate your time in doing that for me!
To the others, I have a further tweaked version with intersectRaven's kernel. Just waiting on him to get back to me with an OK to release with his kernel. 1.2GHZ is mighty nice on this Fire
I love my TouchPad, but I have got to say, I totally see the allure of the Fire. It's a very nice, and very sturdy 7" tablet with decent specs for a good price. Not getting rid of my TouchPad because the 10" screen is great for work (I use it to RDP into my servers at work), but this Fire is a lot easier to transport. I think I'll enjoy learning to dev on this thing

Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that!
This is just the first step in my learning how to do this. The next big step is to take this from being a port, to actually being built from Classicnerd source.
But, until then I will continue to tweak this and do what I can.

[APP]|Glazed Mods|A New Way To Mod|Beta|6-22-12|

Hey forum i back yet again, this time i present to you a new kind of app its called glazed mods. This app is so uniques to all the others, well maybe it may only be one of a kind. So what does this app do, easy it allows you to download the mods that are posted on it. I thought to myself, hmm why not make anyone on any rom enjoy this app, so i am, currently all of the apps are working on glazed ICS, any other rom such as gederom can only download the ones with a little orange plus on them.
By what i mean this app is one of a kind i mean that it uses a new way of presenting apps to you. So what makes it unique is that it is a WebView loading a 600*1024 flash website. It fits perfectly to your screen and the abbilities of flash is customization, and many other little tweaks that this app can support.
Things you need to know
Do not click an item multiple times it might cause the app to crash
There is an update feature that downloads the latest update of the roms listed, if you want to see more roms. Contact me or comment below, need devs permission.
You will recieve automatic updates but not by updating the app.
Please report any bugs in the request section

You have to install through the app in order to detect that it is downloaded. But you can reflash glazed ics or any other rom and it will delete all the mods.
Yes reboot into recovery works, but if you are using FFF 1.4a it doesnt (The one that can have 2 roms at a time)
alright thanks for the info

It needs su because It installs a custom virus. JK.I am using a lot of native code such as wget and that's why I need switch user permissions. It was not working until I added su -c.If you look in the super user logs you can see all commands it uses.

We are having many problems with minus. It either works or it doesnt. We are thinking of reuploading but we have no money for a direct link service were only using minus because its free. Do you have any other direct link service other than dropbox?
Oh a fix for your problem maybe would be to clear cache and data then reboot and it should work.
If that doesnt work you can use the pc version. Its not the best size in the world but it works.

Oh a fix for your problem maybe would be to clear cache and data then reboot and it should work.
If that doesnt work you can use the pc version. Its not the best size in the world but it works.

Has anyone tried the Eyecandy theme with gederom?
I know it's listed as not compatible with all ROMs but I swear I thought I had read in a thread somewhere that someone had used it w/ gederom successfully.
Is it possible for you to add some features from the SGT7 rom as a flashable mod?

For anyone who wants the source code, here it is:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/86322124/Glazed Mods 1.1.zip
It is set up to compile for android 4.0
Anyone else experience this?
After using the app and installing the inverted play store i was stuck at the boot animation, let it sit for 30 min with no luck so i had to restore a backup.
Knowing how stupid i am i went to restore a backup and i forgot that i had deleted both the rom zip and my backups from my sd card so i had to get out the ol' laptop, download the rom again and mount through twrp to install. Last part was totally my fault
But anyways im going to try to induce the same problem and see if i can pull the log to see what was going on. Shouldve done that in the first place but again Beer does impair my thinking haha!
apply at goo.im for a dev account. u get hosting, and goo manager access which kind of does what your trying to do with this. or just use it for hosting.

[APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode!

Description:
This android application, FlashImageGUI, is basically a GUI interface for the linux binary, flash_image provided by google in AOSP for loading custom kernels and recovery images onto the phone.
This app allows the flashing of kernels and custom recovery images in normal android mode!
Current Device Support:
Full Kernel, Logo and Recovery flashing: Samsung Moment, Transform, Intercept and Acclaim - the s3c6410 series of devices
Full Kernel (Anykernel and boot.img) Flashing and Recovery (zip file or image) flashing: Nexus 7, HTC EVO 4G LTE, One S, EVO 3D CDMA and GSM, Amaze, Vivid/Holiday, EVO 4G, EVO Shift, Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S/Nexus S 4G & LG Optimus
Check application version for updates
Credits:
birbeck for the usual random java guidance, slushpupie for his previous java guidance, dodgejcr for extreme amounts of testing, and one_love_420 and shift for some great graphics!
testers: JT-, couga6442, happytweak and many others I might have forgot in the furry of three days I built the initial app from scratch.!
Thanks to SDX
Background:
flash_image (bmlwrite) is an extremely useful utility for flashing custom kernels, boot logos (so far ONLY Samsung devices) and recoveries. This binary has made it possible to easily flash all these items and is used almost everywhere behind the scenes (i.e. in custom recoveries, packaged into kernel /sbin, etc).
Custom Recovery
Supports both CWM and TWRP!
Future Support:
Will continue to test kernels as they are released to ensure compatibility!
Install Directions:
Install process is the same as any other .apk. Download to computer and adb push or mount sdcard on computer and copy over or download directly to the phone. Use any file manager, adb, connectbot/terminal emulator to install.
My preferred method, maybe a bit technical: ./adb install c:\downloads\FlashImageGUI.apk
Download Locations
Market (99 cents!): Flash Image GUI
Release version (free): Flash Image GUI
Contact:
Any questions, comments, concerns, or issues, please post in this thread or send me an email! Thanks for all the help and support!
FAQ:
Q: Will this app support a marketplace to pick and chose kernels from?
A: No. Use Kernel Manager!

Feedback:
Please post any helpful feedback. I'm always looking to improve the application!
Basic Troubleshooting:
Troubleshooting after Rebooting:
First step, when experiencing issues flashing is to RE FLASH the files again. Many times, re flashing again will clear up any issues. If not, see the issues/solutions below.
Issue #1: If the device hangs or reboots while on the splash screen, the kernel (or packaged ramdisk in the kernel) is NOT compatible with your device!!!
Solution for #1: Have to boot into fastboot and load the custom recovery to flash a known good kernel or restore a previously known good nandroid backup. Command: fastboot boot c:\downloads\cwm-recovery.img
Issue #2: If the device hangs or reboots while on the boot animation, the ROM is likely NOT compatible with the kernel!!!
Solution for #2: Have to boot into fastboot and load the custom recovery to flash a known good ROM/kernel combination either from a zip file or restore from a nandroid backup.
Thank you so much for your work JK. I know it says Galaxy Nexus CDMA but just to make sure, Sprint version is safe as well? It worked flawlessly on my Nexus S 4G but I am just being careful.

Yes, Galaxy Nexus CDMA covers both Verizon and Sprint. I'm tempted to attribute this great feat toGoogle, but either way appreciate one device being released on different carriers with a consistent software structure.
As a quick FYI, this is the Nexus 7 thread, not the Galaxy Nexus thread,. Attempt to keep these threads separate as support issues are very device specific.
Definitely appreciate the support and feedback!
It worked. Sorry about that JK, I typed in Galaxy Nexus and did not see that it said Nexus 7. Thank you for your reesponse.

I'm open to feedback on this and have a feeling I might implement a patch.
If you flash the kernel without also flashing/loading the modules, such as WiFi, WiFi will break and not operate properly. Since this happens to many beginners, in order to stop them from causing this issue and then blaming Flash Image GUI for their WiFi not working properly, I don't allow *only* the boot.img file to be loaded.
Of course, for users who are more familar with the process, this is a limitation. As always, this is one of those trade offs.
As a fix to resolve the issue, I'm considering adding support to flash a boot.img, only provide a warning to the user that if they don't also load the associate modules, module dependent activities, such as WiFi might not work.
What do you think?
Thanks for the feedback!
Nice work but I'll stick with my touch CWM for now until this is tested more. I like and don't like the needed module loading rule you have. Just flash the zip like CWM.
Now mobile Odin type of tools and ability would be sweet.

Added in support for flashing boot.img files in the latest version, 1.4.5. Just uploaded/posted/release.
Only caveat, the file has to be named exactly boot.img and I added a warning dialog all in order to help prevent beginners from making mistakes.
I tested the patch on my Nexus 7 and was able to flash franco's kernel without any issues.
Thanks for the suggestion and the support! Let me know if you have any questions/issues.

First, I will write what is necessary, so read carefully! Please forgive my english.Check a new version 7 update in post #63 onward.THIS IS NOT MY ROM, I DONT CREATE THIS. I'M JUST ONLY ACCELERATING THE PROCESS OF UPDATING. NOW ALL CREDITS ARE FOR THE TEAM AND BLU PRODUCTS! So you thank its for this in official website:

The credits for this tutorial is not for me. Are for developers and people who help and become a team for continuous improvement. XDA site for this; Mario Doce; williegomezt; BHARDIK; shahulakthar and all the people who contribute spontaneously.
The following steps must be performed carefully, I do not know if I will update with backup made by CWM. So many beginners, the experienced should know the risks of losing the phone using SPFT. But the process is very simple.
If you do not know how to use SPFT, I suggest taking the phone and the files to a technical assistance to execute this process.
For beginners: create a specific folder for all files and unzip! Do not worry about losing the IMEIs. It has tutorial for that too.
Before doing anything you need for all drivers SP Flash Tool function properly and install the ROM. I've them had and use Win XP. Some W8/W7 users need to update or install the drivers correctly. See this: MediaTek DA USB VCOM driver for MT6577. **If you already have it, forget it.
Check this for more drivers MT6577. Download your version for SO (W8/W7/Vista/XP )--> [TUT] Instructions MTK6577 USB VCOM Driver Installation

Hi mates!
I want to share with you a couple of simple but useful scripts.
Recently, a member asked for help because his young cousin had locked his device when trying to unlock it. As you know there is a way to avoid it, it's doing DATA/FACTORY RESET via recovery... the only problem is that doing this process ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE DELETED and it's really annoying so I created a simple script to avoid this trouble
I created a flashable zip as always
IMPORTANT
This script has been created just to help people, not to harm them!
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR MISUSE/FOR IMPROPER USE YOU CAN GIVE THIS SCRIPT. SOLE RESPONSIBILITY LIES WITH THE USER WHICH USES THIS SCRIPT IMPROPERLY.
USES
You can use it if you forget the password or lock pattern to unlock your phone.
If your child or someone without conscience locks your device by mistake.
REQUIREMENTS
Root
CWM
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Download the correct file.
2. Boot into recovery.
3. Install from sdcard and flash it.
4. Done!, reboot system now.
5. Now you can go to settings and set new type of lock
HELLYEAH!

LOL!! I was already crazy before
What really gets on my nerves is the Barcelona's shield xD ...but hey everyone has a taste for a team
...AHAM. my flashable zip files are easier to use than this method even you don't need to manage any kind of file (It's really dangerous if you are a noob and you don't know what are you touching )
I think my flashable zips might work without root too, but I didn't test it. It contains a simple lines that don't require the full installation of Buxybox, so it should work

You need manage back name and rename like this, How to remove lock pattern, password and pin from your device.
And you also tell anyone for install it without root. :highfive: . I think your flashable zip it work without root too. It's this for all android devices?

HELLYEAH!
