If you want to talk in IRC, I'm in here all day: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#classicnerd&uio=MTE9MA4c
Hello all,
Aspiring dev here, wanted to try my hand at porting a rom.
The rom I have ported is classicnerd ICS. The teams website is www.classicnerd.net. It started as a tweaked version of CM7 for the HP TouchPad, and now they have moved on to using their own source, so I thought I'd attempt to port it.
Classicnerd is mainly an AOSP rom, but with init tweaks aimed at making the UI very fluid and smooth, hence the "butta" name. Try it out, and let me know of anything that is wrong or that needs fixing etc.
When you long press the power button to bring up the power menu, DO NOT tap reboot into recovery. You'll have to unbrick your kindle. I am going to remove this option from the rom.
Credit and thanks go to:
Hashcode for his kernel (versions 0.0.1 and 0.0.2)
InterceptRaven for his modded kernel (0.0.3+)
classicnerd for the source
cyanogenmod for various tweaks in the rom
TheDoctor for trusting me with his Fire to test these roms before I release them.
I want to give a special thanks to aaricchavez for spending a lot of time with me and actually being the one to figure out what was going on with the port. Thanks!
Not working:
H/W Video decoding
USB storage (working on it)
Things to come:
Custom wallpapers (I'm aware it has HP wallpapers lol)
Correct boot animation
Further tweaks.
Bug fixes
As always, I am not responsible if it asplodes your Fire, etc etc.
PLEASE MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP IN TWRP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE!!
Flash this in recovery like any other rom.
Please be courteous and definitely leave me feedback.

Also, volume control is a good app to have, it lets you easily adjust the volume. https://market.android.com/details?id=rubberbigpepper.VolumeControl I plan to integrate it into the rom, soon.

Presumably this is the same issues as if you reboot into recovery from the ROM in CM7 while running TWRP: the device will than not reboot back to normal mode, but instead loops into recovery every time you reboot.
If that is the case than using CWM will resolve that. The issue is in the reboot wrappers in the recovery itself not the ROM. The DooMLoRD has added a set of scripts to the ramdisk that correct the reboot wrappers so that you can properly boot back to normal mode, fastboot or recovery on command. In short; CWM should work just fine (I have not tested it yet). Basically in summation TWRP has the wrong reboot wrappers for the kindle and therefor does not re-assign the bootmode properly to remove itself from recovery.

Doomlord has the scripts in the ramdisk of his boot image he uses on his kernel?
On another note, I'm running intersectRavens kernel right now, and it seems to be working very well.

I'll be honest I don't entirely understand ramdisks lol... Having said that I know that the recovery resides in the ramdisk and the kernel utilizes the ramdisk but technically speaking the ramdisk is not part of the kernel. I know when you build a boot.img or a recovery.img both are accompanied with a ramdisk so I would assume that the recovery and normal boot functions exist in separate locations of the ramdis, subsequently it doesn't matter what kernel you are using so long as you flash the correct recovery.img
DooMLoRD has all the scripts needed in the ramdisk files in his recovery tree
I imported the bootable_recovery part of that to my CM7 manifest and the parts needed for the ramdisk (the reboot wrappers primarily) I imported into my device tree for the kindle
Basically the point is you should be able to reboot out of recovery if you are using CWM and you chose recovery from the ROM

Oke. Cleaned as per OP request.

Hello,
I was curious to if you'd be able to clean up one of my threads.
Here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527046
I was wondering if you can remove all the posts from #3 all the way to #123, as all these posts are just me and some other users attempting to get the port booting. Now that it's fixed, I'd love to have the thread cleaned up if that's not to much trouble. Thanks!

What it the problem with USB mounting? Does the notification show up?
(Which device tree are you using btw?)
The problem with the usb notification was that for tablets it is not implemented in AOSP (only for phones), the commit to enable it should be somewhere in https://github.com/KFire-Android/android_frameworks_base/commits/ics in the SystemUI/src folder.

When you connect the usb cable, it says "connected as installer", if you go into settings and turn on MTP, settings force closes.

I don't remember a "connected as installer" message, we also don't use MTP anymore, only mass_storage (but it worked for me with MTP on linux). Have a look into the /frameworks/base/packages/SystemUI/src/com/android/systemui/statusbar/tablet/ folder, only found this commit right now.

Forgot to say thank you, I appreciate your time in doing that for me!
To the others, I have a further tweaked version with intersectRaven's kernel. Just waiting on him to get back to me with an OK to release with his kernel. 1.2GHZ is mighty nice on this Fire
I love my TouchPad, but I have got to say, I totally see the allure of the Fire. It's a very nice, and very sturdy 7" tablet with decent specs for a good price. Not getting rid of my TouchPad because the 10" screen is great for work (I use it to RDP into my servers at work), but this Fire is a lot easier to transport. I think I'll enjoy learning to dev on this thing

Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that!
This is just the first step in my learning how to do this. The next big step is to take this from being a port, to actually being built from Classicnerd source.
But, until then I will continue to tweak this and do what I can.

Official (as well as alquez's) doesn't fix permissions properly. Official doesn't log properly, and half the time it wont restore nandroids properly.
Alquez's works better, so I'm sticking with it for now.
Ive been trying to build a fully working recovery for a while (considering how small they are) and just have been having problems with it. Seems impossible almost to fix the bugs.. One after another. I will try to fix the bugs in my cm7 alpha, see if we can get everything working. If we can then it shouldnt be too hard here

Same bugs as CM7.
Camera reboots phone. Must pull battery for it to boot again, otherwise hangs at bootscreen.
Bluetooth turns on, does not pair with anything.
Cant test MMS. Auto converts to SMS by splitting, settings don't stick to allow over 160 character MMS. Can't use camera to record or take picture...
I do get data signal, and it works, so I would assume MMS would work with a fix. (MetrOFF, or manually adding data information.)
Will this work with cwm 5.0.2.6?

I wonder if I broke camera somehow? Because it did work. I even told simon how surprised i was when it worked...will look into that...
Flashed this last night. It booted fine, but when I got to the setup screen, the touchscreen is dead. Went back to my latest backup
My wfs is marvelc (metropcs),unlocked bl, s-off, rooted. Latest ota update to 1.10 bl.
I'm running insink71's 1.1 metro Rom (running great!). His two metro roms are the only ones that have ever worked for me.
Have not been able to flash any oc kernels or roms because of this. Would really like to oc. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Chicle, I have the same setup, same phone, same carrier, same hboot.
I can OC just fine. Jmz's kernel doesn't work for me. It just bootloops. Mindh4x8r's kernel bootloops twice, then proceeds to boot for me. Try Mindh4x8r's kernel without swap and see if that works. Make sure you wipe cache and Dalvik cache first!
I installed this last night and had a couple issues. When it would first boot up it would run nice and smooth but would soon start lagging a bit. I was looking at the frequency settings for the processor and it defaults at around 864mhz. By default my minimum was set at same, which seems very high. I reset the minimum frequency and it wouldn't stick to what I would change it to. After a couple reboots my minimum was at 120, even when I set it for something else, but it was just running slow. Camera didn't work for me either.

Definitely odd. But it kind of confirms what I've been suspecting for a while.
Most MetroPCS phones are identical, however I believe that they came out with a revised device later. My friend has the exact same phone as us, however his (Stock, he wont let me mod it) phone tells me its a hardware 1.1, where mine is a hardware 1.0. It tells you in the "About phone" settings menu. (Stock, insink's MPCS1.0 and 1.1) No other ROM will tell you this information.
Could you report back on which hardware version you have?

[APP]|Glazed Mods|A New Way To Mod|Beta|6-22-12|

Hey forum i back yet again, this time i present to you a new kind of app its called glazed mods. This app is so uniques to all the others, well maybe it may only be one of a kind. So what does this app do, easy it allows you to download the mods that are posted on it. I thought to myself, hmm why not make anyone on any rom enjoy this app, so i am, currently all of the apps are working on glazed ICS, any other rom such as gederom can only download the ones with a little orange plus on them.
By what i mean this app is one of a kind i mean that it uses a new way of presenting apps to you. So what makes it unique is that it is a WebView loading a 600*1024 flash website. It fits perfectly to your screen and the abbilities of flash is customization, and many other little tweaks that this app can support.
Things you need to know
Do not click an item multiple times it might cause the app to crash
There is an update feature that downloads the latest update of the roms listed, if you want to see more roms. Contact me or comment below, need devs permission.
You will recieve automatic updates but not by updating the app.
Please report any bugs in the request section

You have to install through the app in order to detect that it is downloaded. But you can reflash glazed ics or any other rom and it will delete all the mods.
Yes reboot into recovery works, but if you are using FFF 1.4a it doesnt (The one that can have 2 roms at a time)

It needs su because It installs a custom virus. JK.I am using a lot of native code such as wget and that's why I need switch user permissions. It was not working until I added su -c.If you look in the super user logs you can see all commands it uses.

Oh a fix for your problem maybe would be to clear cache and data then reboot and it should work.
If that doesnt work you can use the pc version. Its not the best size in the world but it works.

Oh a fix for your problem maybe would be to clear cache and data then reboot and it should work.
If that doesnt work you can use the pc version. Its not the best size in the world but it works.

I tried it a couple times and now all is well. Everything works fantastically. Really like the selection of inverted mods.

Has anyone tried the Eyecandy theme with gederom?
I know it's listed as not compatible with all ROMs but I swear I thought I had read in a thread somewhere that someone had used it w/ gederom successfully.
Is it possible for you to add some features from the SGT7 rom as a flashable mod?

For anyone who wants the source code, here it is:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/86322124/Glazed Mods 1.1.zip
It is set up to compile for android 4.0
Anyone else experience this?
After using the app and installing the inverted play store i was stuck at the boot animation, let it sit for 30 min with no luck so i had to restore a backup.
Knowing how stupid i am i went to restore a backup and i forgot that i had deleted both the rom zip and my backups from my sd card so i had to get out the ol' laptop, download the rom again and mount through twrp to install. Last part was totally my fault
But anyways im going to try to induce the same problem and see if i can pull the log to see what was going on. Shouldve done that in the first place but again Beer does impair my thinking haha!
apply at goo.im for a dev account. u get hosting, and goo manager access which kind of does what your trying to do with this. or just use it for hosting.

[ROOT[RECOVERY] Loki + TWRP + Motochopper CASUAL-R527b release:27May13

Update: This will not work on Build Number I337UCUAMF3
Thanks to Dan Rosenberg, aka @djrbliss, this device can now be unlocked and CASUAL can make it easy as all get out.
Introduction
CASUAL will guide you through the process. Put your device into “Developer Mode>USB Debugging”. Click the do it button. If you experience a problem, PLEASE USE THE PASTEBIN button to post a log. CTRL+L>Pastebin> come back here and press ctrl+V.
Overview
You will need to download and execute the CASUAL application below. Then click the Do It! button. You need Java. Do you have Java?.
note: if it fails, try turning everything off and back on, then run it again before posting for help, and remember... Log or it didn't happen, CTRL+L->Pastebin.
Windows 32/64 Users: CASUAL will put your device into Download Mode. It will automatically flash everything. If drivers are required, jrloper's CADI (CASUAL Automated Driver installer) will handle it. Make sure you're connected to the internet.
Windows 8 is supported but you must install drivers for Download Mode first. See this post
We managed to squeeze in support for Windows XP. Let me know how it works XP users.
Linux 32/64/raspberry pi Users There may be a permission escalation in order to install heimdall, either way sit back and relax. CASUAL automates the entire process. Please run the following in a terminal first:
Code:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk gksu dpkg
Mac Users: Mac works easier than any other system at the time of this systems. Some Macs (especially Macbook Air) have a problem with USB port voltages and that causes the device not to be recognized.
Download
Root and Recovery for ATT-TMO GS4-CASUAL-R527b CASUAL is used to automate the process. The exploit was developed by Recognized Developer djrbliss. Any donations should go to him. I'm just here for error logs. To run CASUAL you need Java. Do you have Java?
For Nightly CASUAL builds go here: http://goo.im/devs/AdamOutler/i337-GalaxyS4
Help and Troubleshooting
Are you having a problem? First check this post out for remedial troubleshooting. . If that doesn't fix it, then press CTRL+L, press the Pastebin button, come back here and press CTRL+V to paste your log. Don't hit the donate button, that doesn't fix it. Use CTRL+L and then hit Pastebin and paste the log here if you need help. Most problems simply require you to reboot your device or computer or removing and "delete driver" any drivers you installed. If you installed drivers to start with, remove them (and delete driver from device manager), because this device is fully supported natively by Windows and 3rd party drivers cause problems.

About CASUAL
CASUAL stands for Cross-platform Android Scripting, Univeral Auxiliary Loader. CASUAL jar files are a wrapper for the CASUAL scripting language. CASUAL can be modified with your favorite zip tool and full source code (including this exploit) is available at http://android-casual.googlecode.com . CASUAL allows rapid and accurate deployment of hacks and exploits. At any time, if a serious problem is detected with any script, the kill-switch will be flipped and you will be brought to a support page (most likely here) so you can download the latest version. Otherwise for minor corrections, new CASUAL scripts can be deployed remotely.

This uses @djrbliss 's Loki Exploit. From what I've read TWRP will auto-lok anything you flash. It is practically the same as a bootloader unlock.

i believe this does it all; it will root your phone; unlock the boot loader and install TWRP; the other one you have to have your phone rooted already and then pick which recovery you want to install (cmw or twrp)

This installs drivers
This troubleshoots problems
This single java executable works on Linux, Windows and Mac
This can be kill-switched on the fly (in case of auto-bootloader update from Samsung)
This can be updated on the fly
This will auto-log your problems to pastebin if an error is encountered so you can paste it here.
This uses a GUI and no command line
This give you Root and Recovery in a single click
This is easier/noob friendly/much more difficult to screw up.
This will check before doing things to make sure it doesn't damage a device it was not intended for.
I'm pretty sure I missed a few points.. CASUAL R527 stands for Cross-platform Android Scripting and Unified Auxilliary Loader - Revision 527.. We've been working on a lot of things that you just can't get from a simple batch file.
edit. Sorry I did not see your reply.

Sorry bro, Replied before I saw your explanation. Thanks for your hard work!
cant wait to here some reviews before trying it; give it a day or two to make sure there are no bugs; can you always odin back to factory image?
There will always be the following problems:
User is using a bad USB cable/USB port and something didn't transfer
User has installed bad drivers on the computer and the device won't connect.
User has installed a virus scanner which wipes out the Android exploits before they are deployed to the device.
so just use a good USB cable. Uninstall any drivers you installed "for samsung mobile devices" especially, Disable your virus scanner before downloading CASUAL. I don't think the driver issue will be a massive problem as it is with the other devices because we're not using Odin mode here.

I prefer the KISS method. I'd rather have one known working CASUAL script to maintain and be able to repackage around any errors encountered. One app, one branch. it keeps things simple and there's no explaining necessary. If someone wants CWM, they can use the Android market to install Rom Manager. Otherwise, if there is a problem with TWRP, I can switch to CWM on this device.
I've been following all your hard work Adam, and I just wanted to say thank you. Its nice to see amazing developers stick around when sometimes they are bashed for their work. Thanks!

Note: This is NOT a theme, it is the actual HTC One ROM.
Note 2 (haha, note 2): If you were linked here and have one of the carrier versions of the S3, then you CAN flash this without any risks or issues (without any additional risks or issues as if a Sprint user were flashing), as the partitions and specs are the same between the three carriers.
Pictures:
I have decided to release this as a community WIP so that all of our great developers can get their hands dirty with this. I would like to collaborate with everyone to get this ROM as close to 100% functional as possible.
I do not require that you be "recognized" as ANYTHING on xda for you to help with the development of this ROM. I only ask that you know that you are doing (or take the time to look things up) because I expect this ROM to be moving quickly and explanations have no place here. Use google if you have questions.
Thank you.

A logcat? No, not for this version. My computer literally died after I uploaded 0.2 so I'm letting it cool till tomorrow...
I guess you could stick in aLogcat after flashing, run that
Anyway, PM me your gmail so we can talk. I think this issue may be similar to the issue you were having with MIUI because everything starts dying after a bit, and the system doesn't even have time to load all the apps up correctly
Are you guys sure HTC will allow this?

My thoughts on this are, this is the internet, the home of every day users stealing software in the upwards of $5000, so, if thats going to be allowed and not really stopped, why take the time to stop us?
edit: in case anyone is wondering, im going to be trying to use what progress he makes and just port it over to the GSM varients of the d2 (att/tmo) i747 and T999

Hey all, im just sharing this since im sure im not the only one who dislikes zRAM on this device... let me explain:
zRAM is compache cache that runs in RAM, therefore taking up RAM for however big the block size is, in CM12 its 256, CM12.1 (unkown) and CM11 its around 160 something (all measured in MB), and this is the reason why in Stock you get around 500mb free ram but still you were unable to use it due to the memory leak in 5.0.x, but now with 5.1, the memory leak has been partially patched and with 5.1.1 around the corner, this will be even more useful in the sense that, we get more free memory to use on Applications since we can now because 5.1 + has minimal memory leaks and etc...
Now the actual mod is just a function within a huge project im working on, so feel free to use any other things inside the script, ive been working on it like crazy, and its all from scratch, it has better lmk settings than rtrm, and it even has some kernel control features (cpu freq & iosched still to be fixed, they have permission read issues) , overall its an insane script and ive spent so much time on it, planing, writting and rewritting code over and over again to get most of it perfect to my liking,
For now im not officially releasing it, not until everything i initially planed is fixed.
Download the script in this posts attachments
Copy it to your sdcard / internal storage
Download smanager
navigate to your dir where the script is located, tap on the script, then tap the SU icon, its like the old superuser app icon
then grant smanager root acess
now click run, once in the menu, select options, (enter O to get to options)
and then select disable zRam, this will disable it (and it will take a little time 4-5 mins), but only for that session, so there is no permanent option as of yet, that will come soon / later, if you reboot cm init files will recreate the zRAM block, so if you feel like your phone is better with zRAM just reboot,
also there are a super duper handfull of epic tweaks in the script, lmk, vm, and the best crap cleaner ive incorporated, it literally cleans up EVERYTHING! (thats junk) and then theres also a bunch of network tweaks which protect you against arp spoofing (protects against apps like dsploit and wifikill) + it also tunes the tcp stuffs so your networking should perform better, , anyways enjoy this script for now and if you want to keep an eye on this project, keep checking back at the github source page (im constantly working on it!) (and when im not im playing Euro Truck Sim 2, its not like what it sounds xD)
Q: wait 1 sec, y i need more free ram? le android is gr8 at handling fo shizzle and ram automagically
A: yes it is, but for people like me who have push email, use whatsapp and like it to instantly ping me (not have to check the app to reload it and etc...) and use irc often and other push services, its nice to free up some more ram for them, so that we can keep the system smooth,
github: https://github.com/Pizza-Dox/Hybrid
download: in attachments (stable) or download git project as zip and copy the hybrid.sh from that for latest version (potentially unstable / executable...) (soon ill make 2 branches...)

Man the zRam thing (less free RAM than on stock) was the only thing that stopped me from using CM 12.1 and why I reverted to the stock 5.0.2. But now I can enjoy some CM
It would be nice to have a CM12.1 build with zRam disabled.
Anyway thanks so much!
Edit: Not working for me on the latest cm 12.1.. The amount of free ram is the same after executing the script.
Very useful
For users who wants to create a permanent script manually create it in /system/etc/init.d with this text:
swapoff /dev/block/zram0
Thanks @Pizza_Dox, I'm waiting for MicroMod-11's update
Have not tested it yet cuz I'm "stuck" on Stock LP, but I know you did a great job!
Also, are you planning on create some kind of "Toolbox" with all your tweaks, pizza? It could look like an "All-In-One" or something

Did try the script, but I am in trouble
After running the script, after a while, I rebooted the phone. The phone wass stuck on the CM12.1 boot animation. I flashed the CM 12.1 ROM again but it does not go beyond the boot animation.
Please rescue me Pizza_Dox!
Thanks

Wtf o.0 why you got boot looped? What options did you pick? And did you make them permanent or temporary (just a note, we should always make backups lol) I'm looking into the issue as well.
Edit
What I can suggest is dirty flashing cm12.1 ROM, gapps, spirit kernel and supersu over it or what setup you had previously, this should create a swap block as part of one of cms init files...

Man the zRam thing (less free RAM than on stock) was the only thing that stopped me from using CM 12.1 and why I reverted to the stock 5.0.2. But now I can enjoy some CM
It would be nice to have a CM12.1 build with zRam disabled. [emoji14]
Anyway thanks so much!

ikr, hmm well Luca confirmed
swapoff /dev/block/zram0 was the line of code to turn off zram. Strange.

This is my all in one xD I've made so many tweaks and stuff over the years , I personally want a unified script, and this is it, hense "Hybrid" - it does two things, those two things need to sound cool, idk what they are yet lol

Yeah backups... :/ but wtf, why does it bootloop some people, for me its fine, maybe bootloader? (Can't be since not directly related to zRAM)
Sent from my Moto G2 running CM12.1
edit
commit to warn ppl bout zRAM disabling: https://github.com/Pizza-Dox/Hybrid/commit/c789e89b001ff6d06ea7a5f42db7c3e7b87c8e6e
Its weird, since i just rebooted with zRAM disabled and my device is 100% fine, :/
updated op with new script.
I tried ALL options on your script in one pass, but the problem was not a bootloop, it was that the device would not go pass the boot animation.

Oh, yes well it dosnt sound so safe, xD backups were a good idea, hmmm, if it dosnt pass boot animation, then wtf xD, might be zRAM init taking to long? idk... O.0 how long did you wait for it to boot?

I am on CM12.1 20150331 and Spirit Kernel R6
I chose option
O and then Disable zram
LMK optimization
VM optimization
Then used it for a while
After reboot it did not go past the boot animation screen. I have dirty flashed CM12.1 20150331, but no luck.
What's the way out? Don't have a backup

Hmmm.... well you already tried flashing a build... idk then bro , try flashing cm12.0 or cm11? idk, dont you have a recent backup at least? always have backups, even i make backups xD
VM & LMK Optimization should not have broken anything... but zRAM seems to do something other than just swapoff the partition.
