Ever since the A.10 update, my hotspot quick tile doesn't work. A09 and before, it worked fine.
I get the following toast when trying to turn on my hotspot via quick tiles.
It works fine when going to Settings > Connection & Sharing > Personal Hotspot
CPH2451 on OG Verizon unlimited data plan. Has anyone else had this issue or know a fix?

No issue in my 2451 running A.22 in At&t. I also had no problem with previous versions.

I am running Calkulin's ICS ROM and I can't get the hotspot to work. Also, I get a constant data roaming error message in my notification bar. Anyone else have these problems or know of a fix? Thanks in advance.
i have the same problem i gave up on the hotspot i can only get my 3g to work on the hotspot and i was wondering also how to get rid of the notifications there very annoying
Can't comment on the HotSpot, mine works fine. The roaming notifications are in settings - more - roaming - roaming guard. uncheck the domestic voice and data.

when i uncheck those two roaming will still work right?
i am in roaming about 25% of the day give or take
Those are just the warnings that tell you that you're roaming.
sweet thanks! i just wanted to make sure
Glad I could help, that's one of the first things I turn off after flashing, they are annoying.
I remember reading somewhere that on ICS the hotspot hack only works with 3g for now... Its better to use the wifi tether app. All you have to do is change the profile to Galaxy Nexus and it works flawlessly. 4G as well.
Epic-ly tapped from my Galaxy SII

Have you tried this on the FD05 ICS ROM?
Something I noticed. Make sure u dear the hotspots settings that Max clients is set to anything higher then 0. Mine was set to 0 by default so it wouldn't let anything connect to it. May or may not help but figured it was worth mentioning.
Hey all,
Does anyone have a wifi tethering app suggestion? or specific settings to set on a particular app to get wifi tethering working?
I'm rooted using MotoChopper. I tried WiFi Tether for Root Users and I can get the app to start just fine but my the network doesn't appear to be broadcasting as I can't see it on any other devices.
I can't use the built in hotspot feature because it's not enabled on my plan.
I understand it's early in the development stages for the SGS4 but just seeing if anyone has a workaround for the time being.
Thanks,

Some strings need to be edited in the framework to change where the traffic get directed to so T-Mobile doesn't see you are tethering. Then you will be able to use the native app/toggle.

If not, PDAnet for me via bluetooth and usb.

does it provide free tethering? or are you on a tethering data plan?
Is it possible to redirect all tethered traffic through a VPN and therefore circumvent t-mobiles tether detection?
E.g. set up an SSH tunnel with port forwarding on the phone and then set your phone as a proxy server on your PC?
Or, if t-mobile only uses user-agent detection, can you simply use a VPN directly from your PC? As all traffic is then encrypted, t-mobile should no longer be able to identify its origin.
im on my unlimited plan, and the free version is limited to a small bandwidth limit. 8 bucks for the full version and no additional fees.
On my Note 5 there was an app in the Verizon folder that was a wireless hotspot app.
I kept it on my home screen because I used it quite a bit.
It is gone from the folder now, and I do not see it in the play store.
Anyone know a way I can get the APK from another phone ?
The app is gone. The functionality is now baked into the OS.
Go into your settings. There should be an option for Mobile Hotspot and Tethering. You can set it up from there. There is also a toggle in the notification pull down to turn on and off.
Yea I saw that. I tried to install the apk I got from a couple of other phones but they were only updates. Is there a way to roll back all the updates so I can get the original apk?
Could I get the apk from someone who has a fresh install of an OS and not updated it yet??
Not gonna work man. Your on marshmallow
Quick settings in the pulldown bar has a hotspot toggle, works perfectly for ONE TOUCH hotspot on/off. If I sound excited it's because I used to be on AT&T and they oddly neutered their phones and took the hotspot toggle out of quick settings, and I couldn't find a hotspot toggle app which worked, I tried dozens of them. You had to actually go into settings, then into mobile hotspot, then click the hotspot, then toggle the on button, then click past the wifi will be turned off nag screen, then exit out of settings. So having one click toggle for hotspot is pretty awesome.
Could anyone confirm that this works regardless of the "Mobile Hotspot" feature code on your account? I'm thinking of buying the Note 7, and might avoid rooting it (at least for now) so I can keep Samsung Pay, but I need tethering to work...
I have an former-Alltel plan w/ unlimited data, which never worked with the baked-in "Mobile Hotspot" on my Samsung Note 3 without root+Xposed+XTether. (XTether caused the hotspot feature to avoid the "entitlement check" that usually occurred).

Do you guys not get a weird warning once FoxFi is installed?
After reading this thread I downloaded Foxfi, since hotspot is the only reason I've rooted my phones for years.
The app worked great, and I was able to use my PDANet serial number from 2010 (for my Windows Mobile Moto Q) so I didn't have to pay for it!

Yes, that's because FoxFi has to trick the system to turn on Tethering even if you don't have it in your plan.

I found out it was actually do to a user certificate it installs for the VPN, you can either move it manually to the system location or use a program like this to moved it automatically https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nutomic.zertman&hl=en
Hey everyone, can anyone with the Verizon Z Play test Foxfi to see if hotspot tether work, or if you know of any other way or app. I really want to pick this phone up but I really would like to be able to use hotspot. Thank you.

Correct, but what I'm asking is on Verizon one is required to pay for the hotspot feature and I am looking for a way around that....until root is available.

I dont know of anyway around that without root or an app... and I also dont know any wifi tethering apps that work without root. There might be an app, but i've never had to look.

OK thanks.
Foxfi and PDAnet work on devices that have no root, but I just haven't heard yet if they work on the Moto Z Play, as sometimes certain devices will not work. Example: HTC 10
You can tether via Bluetooth too. Maybe thats a work-around for being charged for wifi tethering?

Uninstalled FoxFi. Now PdaNet+ hotspot is working.

Thank you for the responses!
I am wondering if anyone has found a way to hide hotspot data traffic on OOS from a carrier. On custom roms my carrier doesnt know the difference between hotspot and normal data the hotspot usage never shows any in my account. I am supposed to get capped at 15gb of hotspot data and I am afraid if I go back to OOS they will see that usage and it will get capped again. Wouldnt be a huge issue but I live in an area where satellite or cellular internet are really the only options. Thanks
I would stay on the custom rom's that works. If you had Samsung Dex that give you another potential work around. The carrier may eventually get wise and modify their protocols.
It seems this battle of wits has been going on for years. Hotspot apps are released, work for a while then fail.
My solution was to use Android to do everything on the internet, my laptop stays safely isolated from the outside world. I even do any downloads I need with my N10+. My Android superceded my PC years ago. Even has more ram
This is an interesting problem and is in part dependent on the carrier. I understand Verizon is one of the worst to hack like this. My unlimited data plan is grandfathered but my hotspot data is limited to 15gb as well. I can burn that up in a day or two without even trying
It's ridiculous.

Yep, download VPN Hotspot and have all your traffic run through it. I haven't had an issue and never gotten throttled.

+1 for this
Android 10 and before was easy with adb/terminal or modules but since Android 11, I use Hotspot VPN.
You need root, enable it and turn on wlan0. If you add it to quick toggle tiles, you can just tap the tile twice and it'll start and turn wlan0 on for you.
It removes the speed limit throttle of 600kbps on tmo as well.
I use the playstore version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.mygod.vpnhotspot
Edit2: you may NEED to turn off "Tethering hardware acceleration" in developer settings
