Hey Peeps!
As title says, native lossless usb audio is coming to Android 14.
I am wondering if any of our beloved ROM builders (raul16, i love u) will be working on porting a usable Android 14 to our beloved HTC 10.
If there's enough interest of course.

I'm so sick of this... My whole music collection is screwed since it's encoded into he-aac v2. Since the 2.2 update parametric stereo isn't working and the sound quality is ****!
Google have already released a patch for it but it needs to be implemented by HTC, so please complain at the HTC community and maybe they'll read it and release a patch for us as soon as possible http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/97.aspx
This is a MAJOR issue and it's affecting many streaming music applications aswell!
Probably not many users like AAC?
I am using MP3
Good luck with asking HTC to release patch!
Probably it is better to root your device and install another ROM.
Exactly!
MP3 ftw!!! AAC is an Apple-only file format (well, it's not but it's iTunes which I REFUSE to use)
AAC isn't an apple format. it's just the next step beyond MP3.
i use AAC exclusively now (and i hate all things apple) and they play fine on the phone
Still think AAC is a fail (WAV is the ultimate file format!!) - suppose you'll have to complain to HTC, or go back to 320kbps MP3 (which is better IMO than AAC anyway). If it was as big an issue as you say there'd be a lot more people complaining on here...
Taken from the official Android Developer Jelly Bean information.
Multichannel audio
Android 4.1 supports multichannel audio on devices that have hardware multichannel audio out through the HDMI port. Multichannel audio lets you deliver rich media experiences to users for applications such as games, music apps, and video players. For devices that do not have the supported hardware, Android automatically downmixes the audio to the number of channels that are supported by the device (usually stereo).
Android 4.1 also adds built-in support for encoding/decoding AAC 5.1 audio.

This feature is a major reason for me to upgrade to Jelly Bean. Is HDMI output all the hardware that is needed or is multichannel hardware required too? Is the Galaxy Nexus, S3 or anything else capable once on JB or are there no hardware capable releases on the market?
I'm using a Note3 with Tweaked 2 (4.3) and I can only use my USB DAC (iFI iDSD Nano) with UAPP. I would love to have it working with Spotify, YouTube and more.
Does anybody know if there's a ROM/kernel/mod with full USB Audio support?
Bump

I tried a CyanogenMod 11 nightly from 9/22, but music doesn't play at all with the USB DAC, outside of UAPP. It just hangs.
I'm not sure that it's supposed to work, but I know it's a feature they are working on. A quick search shows that it's still a work in progress:

Looks like Android L will have native USB audio support, so hopefully that will end this crap.

Ladies and gents, boys and girls, we have working native USB audio on the Note3!!!
Using the Tweaked 3.8 rom with the iFi iDSD Nano, I tested YouTube, default music player, PowerAmp and one video game, Another World. All worked!!
I used the Effortless Guide to install stock NF9, but instead of TWRP 2.8.0.0, I used 2.7.2.0. At the point where it suggests the Effortless Rom, I simply used Tweaked 3.8. I used the super simple approach listed in the Tweaked 3.8 install instructions.

im currently using cyanogenmod on a samsung galaxy s3 and where as it does supposrt usb audio out it is not native to the whole device. for example i cant use any music player and have it play via the usb, i have to use a custom specific player
Sounds like something you need to ask in your device thread since that's not an officially supported device.

Anybody who cares about audio quality will know the difference Aptx codec makes to bluetooth audio quality. The developer settings in android 8 allow you to verify the codec being used over bluetooth without root and logcat. (Enable developer settings by tapping several times on build number in device settings) This is how I discovered that the Nokia 8 does not have support apt x. Some roms give you a clear notification when Aptx is being used which is very helpful but the rest of us have to dig deeply into developer settings. Getting a new device (Mi Mix 2s) showed that my cheap headphones;
AUKEY LATITUDE EP-B40 APT X BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES DO NOT SUPPORT APT X

There is one other 1 star reviewer on amazon who has come to the same conclusion and prompted in me a deep scepticism of the whole market, a suspicion that there are lots of companies who are mis-selling these products. I thought it might bring this mis-selling practice to heel a little if there is enough information out there. Maybe XDA community can help compile a list of dishonest manufacturers/products, and also the good ones, by verifying your bluetooth codec and reporting back here.

I'm planning to do such project. Please make a dump and upload it to https://btcodecs.valdikss.org.ru/
It will show which codecs are supported by the headphones.
