Hey guys ! Today I traded my S5 for a G3 and I have some questions :
1. Which is the latest and which is the best firmware ? I am currently on V10H. I see that there are V10i and V10j firmwares, but I don't get a OTA. Should I manually flash them and are they newer and better ?
2.Is it normal for the phone to heat up so much. My G3 heats up just from listening to music and using facebook messenger on 3G. The first boot after updateing my phone it was hot like an oven. Barely touchable on the top side of the screen. (also the brightness could't go beyond 90%)
3. If I root my G3, do I loose my warranty ?
4. Can I do something after rooting to improve the battery life and lower down the heat ?
5. My G3 uses around 10-12% overnight (6-7 hours) Isn't that too much ? My S5 used around 2-3% overnight...
6. Also on Antutu v5 at exactly 27% I get High temperature warning and my phone reboots. Anyone else having this problem ?
Please guys !

1) I think I and J are kind of the same but others will know better, they are the latest firmware.
2) No but what you call heat and what others call heat might be different but it shouldn't get anything more than warm at most.
3) Yes but you can revert back easily to keep warranty. I used Stump Root.
4) Yes lots of things but I haven't tried any as I have very good battery. There are things you can do without rooting as well.
5) Yes that is way too much. Mine uses no more than 2% over 8 hours but I have a few of the Google things turned off.
6) Never done it but from what I've read others have had the same problem.
If you have an SD card in the phone remove it and see if the heat will stop.
It is a Saturday so give it some time for others to answer.

1) My D855 is on 10H at the moment with no OTAs available at the moment. Most of the OTAs so far have just been small bug fixes and such (the change log for J is exactly the same as H). Its not worth trying to manually flash them yourself. Sometimes the update is available by the LG PC Suite before the OTA, so maybe give that a go.
2) The G3 warming up isnt uncommon. I can usually feel mine warming up around the power button in usage similar to yours. I wouldn't worry too much about the phone being hot after just booting from an update, the phone has probably been running the CPU flat out during the update and boot process to finish everything. The limited brightness is an automatic thing put in place by LG to prevent overheating. (If it was limited to 90%, then I would have thought it is not getting that hot otherwise the brightness would be limited even more)
3) Probably. I haven't rooted mine, but I believe there is a root counter/status thing in the hidden service menu that LG may look if ever your phone is sent back by which they may deny repairs or charge you for them out of warranty. (But if it is a genuine hardware defect, they may be lenient. I sent my HTC One back for repairs for the purple tint issue on the camera with the bootloader still unlocked, but they didn't say anything)
4) Not sure about that (as I haven't rooted).
5) That usage seems about the same drain I have when leaving the phone while it is on cellular data. My G3 has superb standby battery life while it is on WiFi.
6) I think that is a common occurrence with the G3, the phone is rebooting as the phone is getting too hot.

That's really strange...
6) my phone barely heats up... And pass test without any problem...
Sent from from my LG-D855
Thanks a lot for the info guys !
When my phone reboots during antutu it is not even warm. I even tried doing the benchmark in the fridge and same thing happened. It just makes no sense.
Also 1 more question - Is there some kind of a list of apps that are safe to remove/dissable ?
Hello all.
I was thinking if anyone here had a problem like mine or knows what to do.
I bought a LG G4 dual sim 818p last week.
the phone is great, but it has some problem that i think is software related, and i think is governor problem.
It has the latest android version avaible, original from lg.
the thing is that in standby it is great, i get 1% drain in 24 hours...
but if i use the phone just for web browsing or facebook it heats as hell, and i lose 1% batery in 3 minutes...
no gaming, no downloading and no SIM card in it.
Just drains as hell and gets to hot just for web browsing.
I also noticed with battery gsam analyser that if i use the phone it always puts the all processors on 100% speed and for me that is the problem and it has got to be a bug on the governor settings.
any ideas?
many thanks,
what can i do?

Not having a simcard does phone scans fro network?
you could do factory reset if same flash stock firmware using LGUP.. if its marshmallow then be careful wich antirollback you 0n... also i read
LP has better battery than MM.
Hi,
many tanks for your reply.
I also did the same test with the sim cards inserted and the problem was the same.
Meanwhile I flashed the original rom version V20b (I had the V20f) and althou the problem is not gone, things have improved mery much.
I am now sure the problem is software related with the rom and the way it manages the cpu load and speed.
I am pretty much sure if developers of the original rom had more attention to cpu load vs cpu speed this phone could be awsome and have great battery life.
The thing is way does it need to have 6 cores running on full speed just for webbrowsing? It seems to me they dont know how to control the ammount of cpu cores and speed vs the load we put on it.
regards,

You can install V10 Lollipop and heatup problem will be resolved. MM has issues on 818 in terms of battery drain + heatup.
Even I am currently facing Battery drain Issues was thinking to switch to LP...!! But my LGUP does not detect my phone !!! (818N)
from my experience, i've already tried rolling back to a lot of different version of lollipop, v10k rooted+debloated, v10l rooted+debloated, camuix v3 (v10d base), camuix alpha test4 (v10e base), i love using xposed framework, and also i'm a user who loves installing things,it was about 400+ apps/games installed and guess what, it drains my battery 5-7% every 15 minutes without doing anything. and then i tried again using marsmallow, first, i install v20e, but i don't like the UI that much, so i flashed genisys system.img (v20c base) via download mode and disabling some bloatware via debloater. so after having v20c with genisys ui, i install every apps/games i had before 1 by 1, and now, there's about 428-433 apps/games on my phone. after day to day use, i don't really feel too much battery drain regarding a lot of apps/games i had. and also it will go overheat just when playing games or watching videos, it doesn't really overheat when browsing. and about the SOT, it can go up to 3-4 hours depending on network or gps uses, when i use my phone as turn by turn navigation, it can survive about 2.40-3.20 hours. actually, i do really miss every xposed framework i uses before, but i don't really feel so much different. because now in marsmallow, i can use my 128gb microsd as adoptable storage, a lot of CPU & GPU governor improvements, a lot of OOT improvements, a genisys theme, and by using such apps like floatify, fooview, appblock, and adguard, it just feel's like a rooted phone. and one last thing, now i can throw away any kernel or script modifier i've previously used, it was a really really hard time on optimizing this phone with that method, lolz. btw if u need some screenshot, i'll post it

well if you unlocked bootloader flahsing other kernels might have different governors some are foe performance some are more tame... yes i agree why use alot of cores when it can handle with one core or 2.. but thats how governors are some are in ondemand it goes from lowest cpu to highest cpu only if you open a pic.. its less lags but all that cores arent need it.. a governor like smartass v2 or intellimn will use less cores depending on what you are doing.

ok thanks for reply I use elementalx kernel but dont know what settings are the best for battery life ,the best governor mode is? Poor battery life in my HTC 30min from 100-to 80%, it's normal?

Yes, This Is Normal .
I Have Decided To Stay With The Latest Marshmallow Update Because It Is Better Than The Nougat Build . I Have Compared My Friend's HTC One M9 (nougat) To My Own (marshmallow)
.
If Your Phone Is S-OFF , You Can Downgrade To Marshmallow .
Beleive Me , Marshmallow Is Much Better Than Nougat . Or You Can Also Wait For Further Nougat Updates To Fix Those Overheating And Battery Problems
So basically I just got my mate 20 yesterday and I just did an antutu benchmark right after I open it and got a score of 313k without performance mode... Right after I tested it I then proceed to update it to the latest version which is the 0.146 and got an average of 205k?! Without performance mode on and got 305k with performance mode on can someone explain what happened pls? Also whenever I go to the menu I get white or black screen for my open apps rather than what's in the screen of it
Sorry to hear that. Maybe you should do a factory reset before you invest too much time setting it up.
Actually the second problem was solved now... I just needed to restart my device... The only problem now is the 1st one which talks about the speed... I can reach 305k with performance mode on but with it being off It can only manage to average around 200k... Is this because of the updates?
It's because of useless AnTuTu
How come klanac??
What do you mean how come? Antutu and other performance measuring are pure crap. Even Huawei admitted they manipulated the scores of these programs before.
Do you feel the phone got slower? Hangs? Application shutdowns? Then you have a problem.
Antutu not stable then you need to get out more often man: D
I see... Well it has bugs like the auto brightness which seems common for some people who has the mate series but so far its been performing good so I'm happy
the phone overheats on stock kirin 980 speed while doing any extensive work for sometime .. also it uses more battery .. so they limited full speed to performance mode only .. but i get 265k without performance mode and 305k with it
Hi, my poco F3 is recently overheating.
Is there a custom kernel which comes factory underclocked in CPU and GPU? As I can't install magisk and root due to banking apps/office requirements.
Poco F3,
Void UI
Also, is it normal for F3 display to be dull and be lack of contrast? Clean installed on arrow os, void UI and pixel experience. Still the same
Are you sure you are using good firmware version? Heat and screen could maybe related to this ( excluding you have some hardware issues). If your phone is overheating maybe it provokes your screen dimming issue ( Oled screen lower there brightness to avoid burning/marking problems ). If I were you I'd go back on stock to compare with a good reference.
Yes, I'm currently running 14.0.4.0 global firmware. The screen contrast is low even when the phone is idle and not overheating.
Stock miui fixed the contrast issue but I forgot to test the overheating issue that time
Can I check if you are running custom ROM and if your display colours looks the same as miui?

Nexus kernel or wild angel kernel are best when it comes to thermals - I'd suggest wild angel but it's no longer maintained
