General OnePlus 11 vs Motorola Edge+ 2023 (Edge 40 Pro) - OnePlus 11

On paper, the OnePlus 11 has superior specs to the Motorola Edge+ 2023 (Edge 40 Pro) with QHD screen, more RAM, and slightly better main camera, but side by side the Motorola Edge+ 2023 is the better phone. Motorola's UI is what OxygenOS should have evolved into. Maybe it's the 165 Hz on the Moto, but it feels far faster and smoother than the OP11, perhaps the fastest phone I've ever used. Also the screen is much brighter and more vibrant. Wireless charging is a major convenience as well. Perhaps it's nitpicking, but the massive camera module on the OP11 was always getting in the way when holding it, as well as making the weight distribution unbalanced. The module on the Moto is much smaller and out of the way. The OP11 and Moto feel almost identical in size and weight. Motorola has pumped out a lot of mediocre junk over the past few years but this time the build quality and performance are right up there with the best. Let's just hope Lenovo/Motorola doesn't ruin the software in future updates.
Don't get me wrong, the OnePlus 11 has great hardware. If it had a cleaner, less buggy UI and wireless charging, it would be the phone to beat.

Moto has a good software but not the update. Moto edge 30 ultra with 8+gen1 soc stuck with android 12 till now.

Currently using a moto X40 converted to the EU ROM. Probably the best phone I've used in every regard except the camera (which is still fine to me) for context my daily driver was a Pixel 7, and I've tried both the 16gb 256gb OnePlus 11 and the 256gb S23. Returned both cause I hated the software; not to mention I only paid $600 after tax for the 12gb 256gb X40

A workable QDL low level recovery that doesn't need
A paid remote session with a service center or sending it out for an RMA, or combination of taking apart your phone to JTAG. Huge boon for easy hardbrick recoveries from a botched OTA and for those testing custom roms and kernels.
This is what stands out above OnePlus phones since they have locked out their recovery tools since the 10 pro.

After using G6 for a month, I am back on G5: A short comparison...

I have used a G5 for the most part of this year. Then I upgraded to V20 for a brief period (mostly for the free projector and T-mobile promotion ). V20 was a great device, but was too big for me. Then I upgraded to G6. While it was a nice phone for average consumers, I felt like I have downgraded compared to G5 in many aspects. So, after using it for a month I am back to my good old G5! I am just gonna list my reasons below.
1. Camera: No real improvement in camera performance. Just some more megapixels in the wide angle one. I use the wide angle camera a lot, so it was a good thing, but not that important. G6 is using phase detection autofocus, compared to the laser in G5. While this is good in some situation, G5 takes much better macro-mode pictures due to laser focus.
2. Infra-red: Gone. How come they decided to remove a feature, rather than upgrading?
3. Display: G6 got a nice display, but this 2:1 aspect ratio is simply wasted real estate on top and bottom. At least on V20 the extra space was used for something useful (the second display)
4. Notification LED: A big minus. Always-on-display is good, but a LED is a lot more functional and visible. The AOD also takes a toll on the battery. Despite larger battery in G6, on my usage level the battery performance was no better than G5.
5. Removable battery: I was a big fan of the samsung note series until they ditched the removable battery in note5. Since then I used all the LG flagships, because they kept the battery removable. I hope they keep the removable battery in V30.
6. Root-ability: As of now, G6 is not rootable, and I believe there is a good chance that it will never get root. Performance improvement in SD821 is unnoticeable compared to SD820, specially when I can use a custom kernel in G5 to suit my preference.
With G6, LG basically made an eye-candy targeting a consumer base who buys Samsung and apple for the flashy looking phones. For me a phone is about functionality, not a fashion statement. While the glossy look of G6 is aesthetically pleasing, the trade-off in functionality was simply not for me. I really do hope that LG doesn't target the same market for V30. In that case G5 might as well be my last LG phone. But my G5 is going strong with zero issues, and I believe it will serve a good long time.
Agree with you on most counts. I've had every LG "G" phone since G2 and like you, V20 due to the good promotion on price and minibeam projector. V20 I too found was too big, though that quad-DAC really does make a difference. Audio is superb on it. Just got G6 and on my first week of usage. I like it so far and in hand, it feels great, as it feels like a "candybar" again, not the overly wide feeling where your hands feel stretched with G3, G4, and V20. G5 was a nice sized phone with tons of features and a seriously underrated phone. I will say this, performance on G5 and V20 was topnotch at the beginning but they too underwent the typical Android slowdown after a few weeks of use. I'm talking programs that crawl, camera super slow to open, general navigation slow, and twitchy, stuttery browsing... none of which is really apparent on an iPhone... unfortunately, Android still can't seem to figure out the buttery smooth part (maybe Pixel?). The battery life on G5 did really stink though and there's no way I could go an entire day without changing out the battery, which becomes a ritual and it's not like it's hard, but it is annoying (I had 3 batteries). My G5 wasn't without problems though - it has that notorious GPS issue... GPS signal is absolute garbage (there's an in-depth XDA thread on it) and even after sending back the G5 to LG for repairs, it developed the problem over time... so GPS is really crippled on this phone (for me and many other unlucky ones) and as most can agree GPS is one of those crucial features, I can't go back to my own copy of G5.... maybe I can pick up another used one for a good price with a good GPS unit... but that's too much trouble. I like G5 but I don't love it THAT much to go through all that trouble... if I am honest, V20 really has got it all... except the size part. V20's wide angle camera is I think slightly less wide than G5's. I like G5's wideness better.
G6 - just beautiful... but you're right. No more replaceable batteries... and LG gave the US people a normal (stinky) DAC, not like the one in V20... oh boy, you can literally hear the difference. But I also noticed LG's own music app stinks - install a 3rd party - I installed Pi Music Player and the audio quality is noticeably better than the stock music player, despite the stinker of a DAC. LG says the US customers wanted wireless charging over DAC... c'mon seriously? With USB-C, charging is so easy... I'd rather have a better DAC. And removal of IR really hurts. Maybe most didn't use it but I travel a lot for work and stay at hotels... I find myself using IR quite often to change the input source of the TV (for plugging my laptop via HDMI, using Chromecast, etc).
LG... please don't go along with the "norm"... You will not win and you will no longer have any key differentiating feature.
I have to agree, I've had my G6 about a month now and I'm not that impressed. I've had several random reboots, and the screen freezes. If we had root, I could work with it but since we don't, I tend to use my G5 more and more..

Stock rooted with Asgard kernel.
If you don't need WiFi calling or VOLTE, Fulmics rom is a good option.
H830 and H850 are the only variants that can be rooted right? Does the 830 have all the bands necessary for ATT LTE? Or do you have to go with the 850?

A70 vs Oneplus 6T

I have already been ridiculed for trying to compare the 6T to the a50,but the a70 looks to be a better match up
Thinking of changing my 6T this summer
Perhaps for a OnePlus 7,
Any thoughts on the a70
It will be cheaper but is it too big ?

Still One plus 6T is best than A70. if u r planning to go with A70 then its not advisable when compared to 6T.

Reasons to go a70
Better display
6.7 inch screen
Bigger Battery,4500mah with 25 watt quick charge
SD card Support
Always On Display
Triple Camera
Better Cameras 32+8+5
32 mp front camera
Not confirmed but probably newer in screen fingerprint tech
Headphone jack
Improved brightness
Fm radio
Lower SAR values(if it bothers u)
One UI has more features but still close to stock
Against A70
Snapdragon 675
No oxygen OS nearly stock
Frequency of updates
OnePlus community
To sum up,thre are definitely reasons to go with the A70 and I'm seriously considering swapping my 6T for one when it comes out here next week. Im not a gamer at all on Android so do I need the Snapdragon 845,not at all.I could use all the features on the a70 though but may well stay with my 6T regardless.

You make some good points and I agree with you. Regarding gaming I know you said you don't play them on the phone, but you shouldn't worry at all, A70 will play all the latest games no problem if you decide to play something. I tried some games on A50 and it had no problems running any, and A70 has even better specs!

Yes I believe this is true, the 675 is a great chip.I used a device with 660 and there was no problems whatsoever, Processors these days are typically great above the 660,
Still on the fence about the a70 though, have been looking at the reviews, many point out issues with the cameras, front and back
Would need these to be great if I'm gonna swap my 6T which has been performing a lot better with Gcam
After much research and scouring the internet for reviews and insight,
I have decided not to go with the a70,although it is a capable and attractive device with many features, there are some downsides that would be too annoying to live with,
Most notably the in display fingerprint sensor which looks like it's first generation tech
And the camera not quite fullfilling it's potential in terms of megapixel stated and lack of stabilisation,
It would not be worth me giving up my 6T for this device,
I will continue to try and find a decent mid range device with good if not excellent camera and features the a70 have,
It may take another year actually but certainly the mid range section is getting better all the time

You're making the right decision I've had a 6T and A70 and the 6T has a much better camera specially in low light which is the real weak point of the A70. Megapixels are just numbers and doesn't say anything about camera quality. The camera and fingerprint sensor are the two weakest points of this phone. I didn't like the fingerprint reader even in the 6T as I found it annoying but this one is even worse and I rely on face unlock and only use fingerprints for authorization in banking apps etc. However screen is better and battery life is much better.

Hi,
So far, I'd call that a really wise decision.
First, display is of course 6.7 inch... But with a 20:9 ratio, it looks tiny compared to the 6.9" of the mi Mix 3 I had before the A70.
Second, I seem to be allergic to AMOLED/SuperAMOLED technology. Display gets a really blue tint when tilted.
Third : battery life is real not on par with what I would expect from a 4500mAh battery.
Fourth : I am unable to use Super Fast Charging and I never had a device charging that slowly in the past 4 or 5 years...
Good I bought this device from Amazon and so can give it back within 30 days...
It is a disappointment, bercause on paper it had everything I am looking for.
Real life sometimes hits pretty hard

Yea,seems to be a bit of a disappointment overall for this phone, glad I didn't go for it,shame because on paper it seems ideal
I'm getting great batterytime on mine.
But camera and fingerprint reader is not where it should be for the pricerange.
For example my Xiaomi MI 9 SE is cheaper and camera is way better, and fingerprint reader is also better, but like most in-screen readers it is still slow. But sure it lacks headphone jack and has shorter runtimes with its 3000mAh battery.
Overall the Mi 9 SE is a better phone for less money.

Hi,
Nice statement, but comparing a A70 and a mi9 SE is kind of pointless.
I don't think you can compare a 5.9" display phone with a 6.7" display phone.
Even if the rest is nearly identical.
Don't get me wrong.
I am a great Xiaomi fan.
If Xiaomi would have released a smartphone ABOVE 6.5" AND with a decent SoC, I would have gone for that immediatly.
But the only "phablet" in the Xiaomi range of products is the mi Max 3 (that I currently have) and that one does have a SD 636 and it has really horrible latency when you touch the display.
Regards.

Are you sure you have enabled fast charging in settings? Battery / Settings / Fast Charging With Cable.
Just a thought, mine charges from 10% to 100 % in about an hour and a half.
Do remember that 25w charging is only enabled when the screen is off or the AOD is activated. Whenever the screen is on, even on the lockscreen, it'll be limited to 6w.

Question P20 Pro upgrade? Was thinking Pixel 7 but now not sure..

With the Pixel 7 potentially using the older A76 core architecture instead of the more efficient A78s has me looking at different devices. I'm upgrading from a Huawei P20 Pro that has been fantastic for battery life and a good camera https://tutuapp.uno/ ]https://vidmate.cool/.
Any recommendations for a upgrade? I don't require a flagship but open to that option. My main criteria is a 6-6.4" screen.
Note 10+, 60hz AMOLED but it exceeds probably all the new variable refresh rate displays in color and gamma accuracy. It's a gorgeous display. Up to 1tb of fast V30 rated expandable storage. Bt Spen. It's a beast and a solid workhorse that runs like a bat out of hell. Newer phones are only marginally faster for most tasks.
New and used are available.

Agreed: go Sammy or or a Chinese mark with highest specs, not a Pixel. If you're concerned with minutiae in benchmarks, etc.then you know you won't be happy when you get it.
Pixel is more about the Google experience which is extremely comfortable and something fans rely on.
Personally, I wouldn't touch a Samsung or latest-spec-Chinese-brand with a ten foot pole because their speed, rich screens, etc don't mean anything to me for my tasks that I rely on and their UI and UX is extremely annoying to the point that they become literally unusuable and I end up selling or returning them sometimes within 1 day.
So, yeah, stick with what you know makes you happy and don't change.

I don't recommend the newer Samsung's. The Note 9 is noticeably slower than the N10+.
All Samsung's should be optimized for best results. One UI is fast, stable and very customizable stock, one of Samsung's hallmarks. They can be a handful until you understand them... which takes time. Of course there's iPhone on the other extreme but you may die of boredom and the one size fits all blandness...
I've heard good things so far about the Motorola 30 Edge Ultra (reviews should be coming out pretty soon). It's £750 in UK which looks really good value for 200mp main camera phone and Snapdragon processor gen 1

Seems weird that they did a battery comparison without adding the S23 Ultra to the default listing since most shopping OnePlus will be looking at both.
Spoiler alert: OnePlus gets smoked.
S23U 39:23h vs 30:12h for calls
S23U 21:18h vs 15:09h for browsing
S23U 23:29h vs 19:00h for video
I'm glad that at least they didn't do their performance benchmarks with performance mode toggled on so that people could see just how much OnePlus is throttling the SoC out of the box. Of course, they probably benchmarked the battery without performance mode too which would make this an even worse showing for OnePlus since that throttled X3 core is going to be saving a lot of power that the Samsung isn't.
S23 Ultra 1400 Euro...
NO !!! thank you.., or FO!
Now on Giztop they sell OnePlus 11 with 699 $ (12/256 Gb) with OxygenOS if the customer wants.
I was snooping around to upgrade my OP7Pro finally. I was very interested in Pixel 7 Pro and almost ordered but it turned out the battery life is just bad compared to other current phones. Not something I expected from Google flagship. If not the battery, I would certainly buy it, even if I really dislike the vanilla/pixel barebones android experience. Unfortunately, Tensor G2 is dead on arrival compared to S8Gen2 and power efficiency.
So the only viable alternative for me was Samsung. S23 Ultra is just too big and has this stupid, unnecessary pencil which I will never use. Big size, space wasting pencil and 1400 EUR price is out of the question for me and I was happy to go for S23+. It looks very minimal and nice, specs are good, 4700MAh battery seems to be great on it according to gsmarena review and it seems its a really great phone for its class besides inflated Samsung prices. You can try and price your device like an Apple, but still its just a Samsung, even if a great one, its still a korean dishwasher or refrigerator. Oh, and no PD charger like with Apple...
The only thing lacking is >200 EUR price difference compared to Oneplus 11. An the latter has the slider which I use very often (I also have company IP12 and often use the slider too and i am surprised no other popular brand adopted the physical toggle).
I have a wireless charging on my Iphone and sometimes I use it during a day in the office - since I'm talking half of the day it is kinda usefull for me but I never felt real need for a wireless charger for my OP7Pro which is my personal phone. And having a very fast and bundled charger with device makes it pointless for me so I'm indifferent whether it has charging coil inside or not. I dont see any advantage to either wait for a slow wireless charger or pay premium for a premium and fast wireless charger (if compatible with the phone). I also don't care about IP rating since I treat all my phones as vulnerable to weather.
Overall I preordered OP11 with trading my OP7Pro and figured: either I will like it after 6 months or not and after that I will switch/trade it for S23+ or just wait a year and try the Oneplus 12 flagship if it will be even worth it to consider.
Pixel 7 Pro is the biggest disappointment for me this year. Xiaomi 13/Pro/Ultra even if great phone, I will never touch because of it's bad OS and f-ton of spying stuff. If I have to agree to a license to even start the simple calculator or file manager then something is wrong with this company.
Samsung is too pricey to try it first before OP11. If 11 fails, then I will go with S23+. Seems like a really complete phone besides price.
Guessing by how they had to slash the prices of the OnePlus 9 Pro and 10 Pro, at least in the US, the high end brand recognition is failing here. The OnePlus 10 Pro crashed from $1069 for the top spec model to the current of about $600. They lost many early sales to Samsung and Google that could be had cheap with carrier deals. They were smart to release the OnePlus 11 at the lower prices to start, but lack of being sold by carriers is probably going to further hurt brand recognition. It would not be surprising for OnePlus to shift its focus to foldables and the budget market. As Apple proved with the 14 and 14 Plus, the market for mid range is shrinking, as most want either high end or the cheapest thing they can get.
That said, the OnePlus 11 is definitely the most exciting phone they've released in a long time and has the potential to improve if they refine OxygenOS. Where the 9 Pro and 10 Pro were your typical annual processor bumps, the 11 brings a much more efficient processor, UFS 4 storage, Wifi 7, an improved camera, and more efficient screen. Also, many comparisons have been made to the Pixel 7 Pro. Yes, it has a cleaner software experience and better camera, wireless charging, but the slower, inefficient processor and slightly inferior modem definitely make the Pixel 7 Pro feel more upper mid range than high end. The Pixel 7 Pro is all about software, where the OnePlus 11 is top notch hardware. The biggest mystery is why wireless charging was left out on the 11, especially when it would have boosted accessory sales.
So glad I pre-ordered OP11, right now every time I try to play a graphical intensive game or multi task my Pixel 7 Pro stutters like crazy and even gets crackly audio distortion. I suspect even if OP11 throttles it will blow Tensor 2 trash out of the water.

No mystery around wireless charging / other compromises. Do you want a cheaper phone or not?
The other compromises I understand, but wireless charging is not hard to implement, and is seen on many budget phones. It's just a coil that goes over the battery. Given that it's on the 10 Pro, they probably could have used the same coil. Considering OnePlus also makes a wireless charging stand, you'd think they want to sell more. Aside from that, this is going to be an outstanding device.

Thanks for the heads up for Giztop... That's where I saw the 512 Gig version that isn't even an option from the Canadian OnePlus store.... Not sure what the customs import fees/taxes are.... Thanks for sharing.
Hey Guys,
I preordered OnePlus 11 but i am getting confused if i should buy S23 which is like 120$ more in my country. I have small hands. S23 seems light and small which is perfect for my hands. My worry is with small 3900 mah battery. Did anyone know about recent flagships if OneUI or their software degrade or ****ed up battery too much in one year. I would like to use the phone for atleast 3 to 4 years. I also see development is not good for recent Oneplus devices vs zero roms for samsung devices ( knox ****). Is there any chance if OP11 will have some hope for development ?
Or if i am going to use stock rom provided by one plus or samsung then s23 is the better option ?

Sounds like you already have all the answers. Worse phone but pay more and fit better in small hand. Your decision?

IF OnePlus Fold later this year is faultless, 11 be my last single screen phone (and the tablet seems attractive)- esp because trade-in 11 will make Fold \ Tablet real affordable.
I agree with you Fold is the future, even for tablets- really looking forward to it.
I disagree about wireless charging- anchors one too much to specific location \ charges slower \ easier to steal or forget \ stops charging if you need to grab and use.
Maybe it's that I use it & move around excessively...

Do the math.. What is VAT in Canada? For me is 19% . And if there are other taxes.
And if you have 110v wall socket if it charges with 100w.

Question Considering OnePlus 11 or Motorola Edge+ 2023

Recently, I unfortunately bricked my trusty Motorola Moto G 5G (2022), my first-ever smartphone. It served me well with its decent performance despite having a MediaTek SOC. Now, I'm in the market for a new phone, budget is not a major concern for me. After some research, I've narrowed down my options to two potential contenders: the OnePlus 11 with 256GB storage and the Motorola Edge+ 2023 with 512GB storage.
Here's the catch: I've never had any hands-on experience with a OnePlus device, so I'm unsure about what to expect, especially after being accustomed to Motorola's close-to-stock Android UI. My top priority is the quality of the cameras, which is why I'm leaning towards the Motorola Edge+ over the OnePlus 11, and that would be mainly due to the OnePlus selfie camera only being at 1080p. However, I'm open to recommendations or suggestions for other phones that I should consider.
Ultimately, my main concerns are battery life, camera performance and quality, and overall device performance. I'm not too concerned over gimmicks like waterproof or wireless charging since I've never used or needed that.

I've used both and they're fairly evenly matched:
Pros for the Motorola Edge+:
+Near stock Android UI is the fastest and smoothest experience I've ever had on Android
+165 Hz screen is smoother and more vibrant, despite lower resolution
+512 GB Storage is nice to have
+Better wi-fi stability
+Ready For allows better interfacing with TV's and laptops
+Slightly better battery life
+Wireless Charging and Water resistance are nice. If you plan on keeping the phone long term, wireless charging reduces wear and tear on the charging port.
+Center hole punch for symmetry. Clock isn't awkwardly moved to the right of the hole punch
Cons for the Motorola Edge+
-No Always on Display
-No 12 or 16 GB RAM option but I noticed no performance difference
-Shorter length of promised updates
Pros for the OnePlus 11:
+Higher resolution screen
+16 GB RAM option
+Slightly better cameras
+Always on Display as an option
+Promise of longer software support
Cons for the OnePlus 11:
-OxygenOS 13 is very awkward and even simple operation doesn't follow the typical Android behavior. Swiping notifications sometimes gets stuck. You can't set a custom DPI and have it survive a reboot.
-While mostly fast, there are occasional stutters not seen on Motorolas, especially scrolling.
-Third party launchers don't play nicely with gesture navigation.
-Corner hole punch means awkwardly placed clock
-No Wireless charging could be an issue down the road
-Wi-Fi Stability isn't the greatest.
If you're looking for the fastest, clean stock experience, the Motorola is hands down the way to go. Build quality is great on both as are the speakers. It's amazing how similar they look and feel.

Thank you for that reply!! It is very helpful in making my decision. After considering the value of the Rescue and Smart Assistant (LMSA) rescue tool and the convenience of moto gestures and gimmicks, I am going to choose Motorola once again. I really like the option of monthly payments offered on the Motorola website, which is my preferred payment method lol.
The absence of an AMOLED screen, or AOD, is a drawback, and I am curious about the camera quality on newer Motorola devices... In my past experience, I have noticed that images taken with Motorola tend to appear excessively bright and sharpened, while videos often suffer from flickering exposure and fuzzy in low light. but these issues may have been specific to my previous "junky" phone..
Corrected, see the explanation below.

Really? The specs online say plastic OLED...
Here is a breakdown. Rest assured that the screen looks incredible and I find the colors punchier than the OnePlus 11.
