It's been 9 years since I last did anything like this and resources seem a bit scattered so I would like a push in the right direction to get my phone where I want.
My phone is on LE2127_11_f.27 and want to unlock the bootloader, install twrp, and flash Lineage OS but I'm running into an issue with bootloader unlocking.
The device is carrier unlocked and I have a token file provided from oneplus but it doesnt seem to be working.
OEM unlocking is on but I get this error when trying to unlock it.

Im guessing the file they sent me is wrong because I had to communicate with customer support as my serial number was 7 digits long as opposed to 8 digits.
With this in mind, Ive also seen posts saying I don't need to have a token to unlock.
Should I use magisk to unlock it instead? Are there advantages/disadvantages to it? (it being a dependency, adding a safety net, etc.)
Finally, what should I do in what order? I can figure out the details of execution but I want to make sure everything will go smoothly.

How old is the phone? You should not have been able to get an unlock token with only 7 digits in a serial number. Been there and done that. Again how old is the phone?
Also did you buy the phone from T-Mobile, and is TMO your cell carrier? I can get you where you need to be, but need the information.
I can link you to a TMO to GLO MSM Tool, then you can unlock bootloader without a token, then install lineageOS, install TWRP and magisk.

Also you got discord? id love to chat there for more realtime replies. I will post the workflow here when done for reference's sake.

I will give you the link for the MSM Tool to convert you from TMO to GLO Thursday because until then I will be on the road. It will convert your TMO to GLO so you can unlock the bootloader. Patience!
If you don't want root, you don't have to root to install LineageOS.
I will have it for you Wednesday!
In the meantime, disable driver signing on PC, reboot PC, download the latest OnePlus and Qualcomm USB drivers and install them and then reboot PC. Then you will be ready to convert the phone!

My power button is not working. Is there any command to exit from edl mode?
yes there is. but edl itself has a timeout, so it won't accept commands

Haha you have been a little bit faster than me xD Would have been my question as well, are there any information about this?
Razer already stated it would be an unlocked bootloader. Can't find video but it's mentioned in one of the first hands on

To me, that sounds more like that it is going to be unlockable but it won't shipped unlocked.
I saw somewhere the bootloader can be unlocked via the developer options menu? iirc In a menu though..

It ships _carrier unlocked_ (sim).
Bootloader is unlocked by the user in dev options on the phone, should the user so choose to do so. Voids the warranty.
Rooting the phone is up to the user, but also voids the warranty, as the reply in the image says.

There will maybe a option to enable unlocking the bootloader.
This will not unlock the bootloader, it will only enable the command to unlock it I think.
Like on the oneplus.
If you live in the EU, unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone - wont void the warranty, if you have a hardware related fault.
I do find the EU has better consumer protection than the US.
What companies can do here while taking your money? Uh ya, that's one reason I bet the USA is becoming a big laughing stock of the world.

YMMV But from what I've seen with a few other companies, if the repair is hardware related and not software they almost never actually care if its bootloader locked or not. Can't say Razer/Nextbit would be the same though.
Ya I've not dealt with razer for the laptops. I know for my mouse and keyboard record, they're good on responding, synapse updates happen fast enough to almost be annoying, hardware seems decent, though about 20% fails after the first year. (though I found out later the mouse doesn't actually fail, it's electric "char" that builds up on the metal switch internally because it's so thin)
Got the phone otw though, pretty excited. Can't wait for the analytics to start trickling in to see what we can do with this beast.
I have one already. It works. Just tried it. Bootloader unlocked.

Sweet! Thanks for uploading this.
Now if we can figure out how to root it while we wait for a TWRP Port.
Looks like all we need is a copy of the boot.img. Then we can patch it using Magisk.

That's not how you unlock the bootloader, that setting is part of the process and enables the ability for you to unlock the bootloader via fastboot.
I've made a thread on how to unlock the bootloader and linked it below

You would not be able to select that option if the bootloader was unable to be unlocked. It unlocks the first key. If that key is unlocked, then fastboot oem unlock bootloader can work. So it is valid proof that it's unlockable.

Right, I didn't dispute that but he said "Bootloader unlocked" which at that point, it was not. If it was, that setting would be greyed out and it would say "Bootloader is already unlocked"

Actually huawei remove unlock page so i'm waiting to add new devices. In all cases to add a device to official support i need of a TWRP that is no available for p20 lite at this moment
Support for the P10 series would be nice. Would make life easier in times of uncertain unlockcode situations by huawei.

There is DC Unlocker that MAYBE will be able to give you a bootloader code, but IF it does work, you will have to pay about $4.
Other than that there is NO other possible way.

Bootloader Unlockcode through sourcecode?
Now that the source code has been revealed, isthere a chance that a smart person could retrieve unlock-codes with the source?
Or can program a unlock-code generator from it. Or is the bootloader an extra binary-blob?
Just asking to help in the unlock-code-dilemma (and need the code too)

Anyone have suggestions?
Does this mean it is un-rootable?
Goddam but Virgin fones are a pissoff.
Should I return this phone?
Or is there any possibility of a way to fix this?
I learnt the same lesson. It's sad that carriers can restrict what we do with our phones here in north America while if you buy this same phone anywhere else in the world, it's rootable.
I've had mine a few months now and still no way of rooting.

ok, so the idea is that I flash the combination file, go in to dev. settings and set OEM unlock, then reflash the phone with normal firmware, and carry on with rooting as normal? will this allow me to install twrp?

no , when you enabled dev settings, enable OEM unlock , then reboot to bootloader and unlock it , then u can root with magisk by patching the AP of the firmware you need

BK,
Ok, I'm sure you're going to think I'm a retard, but I wanna be sure I understand correctly.
So i:
1)flash combination file
2) Boot phone up
3) enable developer settings
4) enter developer settings, and enable OEM unlock.
5) Ok, here is where I'm a little unsure of what you mean:
"Reboot to bootloader and unlock it"
6) root with magisk.
The number 5 slot (above) is what I am having trouble with....
And then I use my pc to root the AP of the proper firmware before I flash it with Odin on to the phone?
Wait..I'm getting that part wrong too, I think.... shoot
Oh gosh. I'm screwing this up. Please advise here too...
And will TWRP be possible afterwards?
Excuse my asking about what I'm sure is obvious....
I have rooted and enjoyed the results on several LG phones and my old tab4, and I would enjoy the same freedom with this phone, as I quite like it.
Thank you again for being willing to advise.
Regards
K

Wow.. I got the same error, EXCEPT instead of (pit) I have (abl).
I mucked around for a bit with a cracked z3x for a bit, but it was an older version, and didnt have A705W listed.
I'm still game to try, but thought I'd see if somebody here had any advice....
Please help, if anyone can.
Thank you
I am kinda in the same position as you...
I've been wanting to root for a while but this oem unlock thing with my Virgin a705w is annoying
I don't really want to risk bricking my phone or whatever so I was hoping someone could do it first.
I found this website with pit files if they're any use: full-repair-firmware .com/p/galaxy-a70-sm-a705xx.html
(remove the space before the .com; I can't post links on xda)
pls let me know if you can get it working

Hey BK.
Thank you very much for your input!
I've only rooted my LG phones previously..
Samsung has a few more twists it seems!
I thought it might be worth asking you if you had any info on that error I mentioned below, the "please get approval to use factory binaries (abl) or (pit)" problem?
I've seen some stuff, applicable to the error ending in (pit), but have not seen anything referring to the (abl) version of the error, which is what I am experiencing....
Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated....and by more than just me, I'm sure!

Easy to root. Unlock the boot loader using mtkclient , there is also a GUI version that works too if you don’t want to use commands .. androidfilehost has both. Make sure to back up your firmware first snd foremost. After that to obtain root simply take boot_a.bin transfer to phone patch with magisk snd bring back to pc flash the patched image to same partition. If by any chance you could upload your firmware somewhere for those in need would be greatly appreciated . I made mistake of trying to modify build.prop and when I hit save it basically cleared the whole file was unable to mount system to fix it snd started bootlooping

hi. i got interested in this phone and seems to have decent rom support. since the last update i have some doubts with unlocking bootloader:
first, people is panicking this update broke many things, and users are not sure bootloader is unlockable anymore. this is a must for me, please confirm me if that got ruined for this update or still works.
second, people also mentions about a code and i'm confused. the pinned guide says is as simple as one command, but users report they are being requested an special code the phone gives you. chow does this work? if i want to get the phone from a previous owner would it mean i can't access that code? what oneplus asks for exactly?
thanks for your time
I don't know what code you are talking about. Just follow the guide, be sure what you are doing and be sure how to get things right if something is going south.

ok, THIS i want to talk now.
can you please explain under what conditions is won't be unlocable or what oems don't allow it?
this has the upmost importance to me. its super important it being possible to unlock. the phones that dont allow it, is it because updates, fabrication region, time they were made or other factors?

I couldn't tell you all the OEM's that wouldn't allow unlocking, I think T-Mobile in the US is one but mine (from Three UK) isn't limited in that way.
If you reboot to bootloader and run "fastboot oem unlock" after enabling that setting above and it fails then your bootloader is locked by oem

Generally, if the phone is SIM-locked the "OEM Unlocking" will be greyed-out and you can't toggle it until you SIM-unlock your phone.
On T-Mobile, for example, once you SIM-unlock the phone, you run a command in Fastboot to get your phones unlock code.
Once you have your bootloader's unlock code, you submit a request on OnePlus' Unlock Token page.
Devices bought directly from OnePlus should be unlockable out of the box.
Hope this helps!

hi. i got interested in this phone and seems to have decent rom support. since the last update i have some doubts with unlocking bootloader:
first, people is panicking this update broke many things, and users are not sure bootloader is unlockable anymore. this is a must for me, please confirm me if that got ruined for this update or still works.
second, people also mentions about a code and i'm confused. the pinned guide says is as simple as one command, but users report they are being requested an special code the phone gives you. chow does this work? if i want to get the phone from a previous owner would it mean i can't access that code? what oneplus asks for exactly?
thanks for your time
