Question Issues with fingerprint sensor - OnePlus 9 Pro

I've had my phone for over a year now. Never had issues with anything.
Recently when I tried to unlock the screen with my finger it didn't recognise it. It was vibrating but saying that fingerprint is not recognised. I thought the screen is dirty so I wiped it - didn't work. Then I thought I have cuts on my finger so I tried to add new fingers but it doesn't work... Fingerprint sensor lights up but it's not vibrating and not scanning my finger.
I've tried resetting my phone and still couldn't register fingerprint. I've reset it again and it worked! But only for 2 days... Now again the fingerprint sensor doesn't work.
I'm on LE2123_11_F.75
Has anyone experienced something similar? Just wondering whether it is software or hardware issue?

Depending on where you bought your phone, it usually comes with a warranty 2 or 3 years.

Issue since the MHC19J update

I've been having a really strange and annoying issue with my 5X since the latest OTA. Every few hours or so, I have issues unlocking the screen on my device. I'll place my finger on the sensor and it'll vibrate as if the print was accepted, but the screen won't turn on. Or I'll press the power button and the lockscreen will come up, but when I type in my code or use the sensor, the screen turns right off again. Another example is when I use my flip cover, sometimes the screen won't go off after closing it and it won't come on when opening it.
The only way for me to fix it is to reboot the device which can be really annoying as it happens pretty often.
I'm on a stock unrooted/locked/encrypted MHC19J 5x
Has anyone else been having a similar problem? Any ideas on fixing it?

Have you tried a factory reset?
Do you have any apps that control the screen in any way?
I'm having the same issue on my wife's 5x. Stock, not rooted, unlocked bootloader.
I flashed the latest MHC19J factory image, including userdata, factory reset. The phone seems OK but after less than a day the issue reappears.
Hello, are you using a screen glass tempered because they're some problem with the proximity sensor, in my case this was happening during a call. The change of protection to resolve my problem
Indeed, the phone has a tempered glass screen protector. It also has a Nexus 5x Folio cover and it seems that the issue disappears when not using it. I would blame the magnetic sensor.

Fingerprint rejection screen on

With fingerprint screen unlock turned on, is there a way to not turn on the screen whenever a fingerprint is rejected ? When i am holding and moving the phone about and the fingerprint sensor touches any part of my skin, (palm, thigh..etc...), the screen will turn on. So it's turning on lots of time when i didn't intend for it to. Anyone ?
I've read about other people having this same issue. It hasn't happened to me though. The fingerprint scanner only recognizes my fingerprints, not my palm nor other parts of my body.
It shouldn't turn on by default ... If it rejects the finger it should only vibrate to let you know that it detected something, but screen should stay off.
Which ROM are you using?

Stock, rooted. Touching the fingerprint sensor with knuckle, palm..etc.. wakes the screen, no vibration. Placing unrecognized fingerprint vibrates and wakes the screen. Any input on this ?
Complete stock. 3.2.6. No root. Fingerprint rejection only causes vibration for me, no screen on.
I am on stock 3.2.6 too. Upon further investigation, If i leave my finger print on long enough, it rejects with vibration without turning on the screen.
Here's a video link demonstrating the problem, appreciate if anyone has any suggestion on how to fix this.

Weird ... definitely not standard behavior.
I'd try clean flashing the system.

Fingerprint Issues

I'm not 100% sure if this is a bug or a hardware issue, but my fingerprint scanner is no more.
A while after I installed one of the nightly builds for my Axon 7 Mini, my fingerprint sensor would not read my fingerprint. It would vibrate and tell me that my fingerprint was incorrect, so it's aware that I was touching it.
So, I instinctively removed my fingerprints and tried re-registering them. When I get to the point where I enter my fingerprint, it won't do anything when I place my finger - no vibrations, no error messages. You guys think my scanner is as good as dead?

A70 fingerprint recognition problem

80% of the time i try to use fingerprint to unlock my device my fingerprint is not recognized.
Is this a software or hardware problem and how to solve it?

This is a hardware problem, which Samsung is trying to solve as if it's a software problem. They keep tweaking it, but it will never work as should (look at all the complaints about the s10 fingerprint sensor). An ultrasonic fingerprint reader behind the screen works in ideal circumstances, but on a phone it's just terrible.
I register my fingerprint and after 5 seconds it doesn't even unlock anymore. It says it's not my fingerprint. I can understand that your fingerprint changes slightly over a couple of days (I had to do some DIY in my house and I got a couple of scratches on my fingertips), afterwards my S8+ would ALWAYS unlock, but the A70 just thinks, well hey that must be someone elses finger.
I'm using face unlock and I must say it works very quickly. I read comments everywhere about people who stopped using fingerprint on these Samsung devices. It was a nice marketing trick, but what a terrible idea.

I was on the verge of returning the phone over how poorly the sensor was working, it was as bad as 1 in 5 touches working.
I've had a huge improvement by deleting my fingerprints and setting them up again as per this guide: https://youtu.be/X9y--nHmaco
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that!! Works a treat.
Register 3 times, in the same position you will use to unlock like the @chongo_au video above
Dont folow the screen tip when registering. It is misleading
Also, emove transition effect on biometry preferences
Try also register one of the three like this: first, put yout finger on power button, and then put your finger on the scanner

What do you mean by put your finger on the power button and then on the scanner?

1. put your finger over the power button (just to position, no pressing)
2. now put down your finger to scanner
why? because lot of people, when unlocking the device, do this movement, pressing power button first, and then press the scanner almost without moving the hand, using the right side of the right thumb
It is just a tip about positioning. It worked for me.

I got some tips to solve this problem, just moisten your finger a little bit, maybe you can lick your finger and then rub it with other finger, but don't let your finger dry completely (i.e. if your registered fingerprint is your thumb, then lick your thumb a little bit and then rub the surface with your index finger) and then place your finger to the sensor as usual. Hope this work on you too! And sorry for my bad English.
a70 fingerprint recognition
I also thought that it was the sensor Until I did a reset on my phone to remove some of the clutter I put in with Smartswitch
fortunately you don't have to reset your phone
-> first remove all your fingerprints saved!
->think carefully about the part of your finger that you will place in contact with the sensor!
->place that part on the sensor first covering it completely ..no need for too much pressure !
->keep your finger in this position for 3 seconds then follow attentively the direction for positioning ..each position 3 seconds
And here you have it, I am hitting it 100% of the time with dry or sweaty fingers!
->-> bonus it works in every orientation of you fingers even upside down!!
youtube ->A70 sensor work under all orientations!
Fingerprint in Android Q for A70 fixed
I have an A70, and had the same problem as all of you are having, with the fingerprint, but I have just solved it.
What you need to do is download samfirm, and look for the firmware, from Bolivia, with this date: 21/03/2020.
Just flash this firmware from Bolivia, with this date, and your fingerprint problems will get fixed.
it works fine for me
An easier solution is to first remove all fingerprints then reboot.
Clean you phone screen. Also wash your hands too.
When boot complete re-register your fingerprint.
Since you can register three fingers in total, register the finger you will most commonly use to unlock phone two times. Make sure you change your finger position everytime you scan it
The type of screen protector you use can also affect fingerprint scanner
Matt protectors fail the scanner.

Fingerprint problems, but only on MIUI roms?

Hi,
As the title says, I'm experiencing some problems related to the fingerprint sensor, specially when I try to wake the device as I have to put my finger in the sensor twice because the phone doesn't recognize my fingerprint at the first try, it just vibrates, but the second time I put my finger it wakes up the phone with no problem. It feels like the sensor puts itself in deep sleep mode as it happens like 15 seconds after I turn off the screen.
The fingerprint sensor works fine when the screen is on, as I can unlock protected apps at the first try. But some apps that include their own fingerprint authorization like Paypal or my bank account app shows me an "error" as soon as they ask me for the fingerprint, like the fingerprint sensor is already in use (not sure how to explain it), but they work as soon as I put my finger on it.
Pressing the sensor for a little longer wakes the device at the first try, but I'm pretty sure that's not the normal behaviour.
Disabling the pocket mode doesn't help either.
As the title says, this only happens on every MIUI rom Iv'e tried, like Xiaomi.eu, Mi-global or Revolution OS, always made a clean flash. I've tried Havoc-OS and Pixelexperience and the fingerprint worked flawlessly, not a single problem with those roms and that's what makes me think that it's a software related problem. In fact, I'm currently using Havoc 3.0 and the fingerprint sensor is working great.
I've also tried to flash persist.img from the chinese official rom without success. And needless to say that I've cleaned the fingerprint sensor several times.
I know it's not a big deal of a problem, but it's driving me crazy. So any help would be appreciated as I really want to use MIUI instead of any other custom rom.
TL;DR: I have to use the fingerprint sensor twice to wake my device and feels like the fingerprint sensor puts itself on deep sleep mode or that it's already in use somehow. But it only happens on MIUI roms.
