I live in the UK and had been using the FTV since it came out. I have been using vyprVPN on my router loaded with DD-WRT. So I am able to access all of the US content. Since I rooted my FTV last night, everytime I go into Hulu (from the FTV) the IP address I use gets flagged by Hulu and I am not able to use that IP anymore. Has root enabled the FTV to provide some extra information to the Hulu server to flag those IP addresses? I did not have an issue before I rooted. I don't want to keep using different addresses until I figure out what's going on. So far only Hulu is flagging the addresses, Amazon, Netflix etc work fine. I checked the SU app, Hulu does not have root access. Any ideas?
Unroot then reset and see what happens. It might just be a new measure from Hulu that started around the time you rooted.
Try installing Root Cloak - Hulu's always been top drawer paranoid about content leakage, and it would not surprise me if they were asking the OS "hey, is there a copy of su in /system?" and reporting back to the mothership if one is seen.
Don't know if RC helps with Hulu.

Thanks, Ill give this a try when i get home
UPDATE: it did not work, I tried it with a new IP address, I was able to watch about 15. It kicked me off and when I came back, the IP was flagged. The odd part is that this only happens with the rooted FTV. I use my rooted GS4 to watch hulu. I have not have an issue. I used it today just fine.
The part that sucks is that once the IP is flagged, It cannot be used to stream from hulu from any other device or browser. I removed root and the IP flagging stopped. I guess I will need to stay unrooted in order to use hulu....

You could try to use a tablet version Hulu instead of the Amazon's or get one of the Root Blocker tools and see if HUlu works with it enabled like OTA Rootkeeper. Could be they tied their HUlu app into their VOD.
Hi, got a s9 plus the other day and don't want to root it, so no Adaway for me. On my s8 I used dns66 and was fine with it, but as it seems all DNS based blockers bug out on the s9 as in they randomly kill data connections completely when switching between wifi and mobile data. Tried blokada, same thing.
I'm not super fine with Adhell / sabs either since it requires me to resign the packs, install everything new and get new knox keys every three months.
It's not a lot of work, but annoying still.
Is there any fix to the DNS blocking not working? Any other way to block? Or should I go to Adhell 3?

Please read my post.
What issues are you having with Blockada? You still see ads in Chrome only? Because you need to go to Chrome://flags, search "dns" and disable all the options found.
I don't have issues with this + Blockada + adguard dns servers.
I have exactly these issues as reported here.
https://github.com/julian-klode/dns66/issues/258
It's for dns66, but applies to any DNS based blocker. It's the same with blockada, I tried it. Samsung based software problem
I am using block this! , works ok.

This is probably the last blocker I'd use if I had a choice between blockada, dns66 and block this, since it has absolutely no options to configure it whatsoever or add hosts files, but indeed - this one seems to work where dns66 and blockada don't. I switched a bit between wifi and mobile and the connection didn't crash.
Using it in combination with Adhell 3 at the moment, since I set that up anyway today. But will try if block this works okay on its own once my Knox license runs out and I'd have to set up Adhell again.
Disconnect Pro seems to be working great so far.
Edit,
Nah block this only worked for a few hours. Same problem afterwards. All VPN based blockers do this. The vpn66 issue on github suggests this is s9 plus only. Maybe I should check the s9 plus subforum

I used to use Block This but it hasn't been updated in over a year. I started using Blokada and at first it seemed like it blocked too much but once I got the blacklist and whitelists figured out it has worked great. Plus when it was updated to 3 and then subsequent updates fixed the issues.

Better to do like this. Block this is working ok for days in the row.
For the other question, what to update, the blocking it's DNS based, not application. Only when the DNS server (actually lists) will not be updated anymore, then there will be problems.
But I am still searching for other solutions, as privacy issues can appear, not sure if it's the case for block this.
To be clear, the VPN blocking worked perfectly fine on my Galaxy S8. This seems to be a specific issue with the S9, maybe only plus, caused by the phone's firmware.
I found my mistake with Adhell (forgot to block port 53 for Chrome) and now everything is blocked fine. And no annoying VPN notification in the status bar all the time. Only issue is I'll have to update it every three months, but ok.
I'm using AdGuard and pretty happy with it: no ads seen at all.

I've been using Adguard too and it works incredibly well for blocking ads in nearly every app. The only concern I have with AdGuard is battery drain, however, I'm uncertain if that's related to AdGuard or a Samsung issue. I haven't had time to investigate it thoroughly yet.
Hey guys! Right now I am running a Havoc OS and I have AFWall+ as the firewall. It runs flawlessly on mobile data and my home wifi but as soon as I connect to the wifi at work it stops working properly. The wifi at work requires me to login to the network after connecting to it but for some reason, AFWall+ blocks the login pop-up. I've tried turning off the firewall, logging in, and then turning it back on but AFWall+ ends up blocking the internet as well.
The logs show that the (root) app is being denied access but it is whitelisted. I've also tried checking off the wifi whitelist for every program in the list but the wifi is still blocked. I've enabled the (kernel), (ntp), (shell), (tethering), and (vpn) as well. The only option that lets me get the login pop-up and internet access is the (Any app) program. Obviously I don't want to leave that ticked off the whole time. Anybody have any ideas as to what the issue could be?
the whitelisting feature has issues atm on Pie....go look at the AF thread or github....
So far for me the only way it works properly is to invert and the block as in blacklist, not whitelist....YMMV
Ive been assisting in the troubleshooting....last I saw was a Beta2 of v3 out...

Unfortunately your solution doesnt work for me either, I still have to uncheck the blacklist for the (Any apps) program. I suppose I'll have to just wait until the issues get fixed and pass/block (Any apps) as necessary for work. Thank you for the response.

I've been having issues with AFWall+ (Donate) ever since upgrading to Android 9.0 almost two months ago. Dev support has been lacking to say the least, so I've been looking for an alternative. Apparently Avast bought out Droidwall some time ago. I've been running Avast Internet Security for about three weeks now and disabled all the components (along with any the 3rd party analytics) and it works great with no battery drain strictly as a firewall(which requires root as well). And since it's part of Avast IS, future updates/bug fixes shouldn't be a problem.

I can't sign into a few apps. When I enter my login info to Amazon Shopping & Prime Video and tap the login button, they both keep saying it can't connect. PayPal derps out and closes entirely once I sign in and just as it displays the two-factor authorization part. I've double checked MagiskHide and cleared app data for all three apps as well as Google Play Services. I'm using the latest Magisk canary and SafetyNet passes.
Another, seemingly unrelated issue that only started after I rooted, is that my fingerprints are no longer recognized. I've deleted all of them and re-registered my fingerprints, but they still always fail to work. Any ideas?
Never had a problem with Amazon, PayPal or even Google Pay with root.
I had the same issue with Amazon after root. I'm assuming you're using AdAway? That was my problem. Go into AdAway > Preferences > Root based ad blocking > uncheck enable web server. I never used it and it was disabled on my 8T, so I disabled it on the 9Pro

Same, I'm using both Amazon and GPay regularly, and I've used Paypal since rooting. Are there any maigsk modules or other root apps that could be interfering? Maybe try disabling all of those temporarily.

I fixed mine by just adding *amazon* to the whitelist/Allowed. I'm still using the web server option.
I also have absolutely no problems with Magisk Su using Magisk hide. Google Pay, PayPal and banking apps work without any problems.

I never encountered an app crashing or refusing to work with adb debugging enabled. The only one I know of that will complain of it, but still work, is Titanium Backup. Regardless, I toggled it off and tried them all again. No dice.

Oddly enough, GPay DOES work. I dunno if I mentioned that.
Turns out AdAway was the culprit, but I'm not sure why. Been using it for years and I've never had to add an app's website urls to its whitelist before.
Wish I could figure out why the fingerprints refuse to work, even though the sensor works fine when I add prints to it.

Hm. I am also using AdAway in root mode. No problem so far
What helped me with banking apps was doing the following
Install the app and run it once
Go to magisk and use magisk hide on the app
Go back to the app and force close it then clear cache and data
Reboot to recovery wipe cache and dalvik
Reboot to system and make sure it's still the magisk hide list
Run the app and it should work flawlessly

HI,
does anyone know how to get the Spectrum TV app working with root? Atm I'm running OOS 11with Magisk and I always get the error in the screenshot. I've always tried the deny list and still get this error. I've Google for an hour with no luck.

Contact the app developer and ask them if they can add the phone to their support list. I mean, it's not a ROOT issue as per your screenshot.
Spectrum TV won't work if you have USB debugging on. Also, it unticks in Magisk's Deny List whenever you reboot. I would make sure both of those are taken care of, then clear all data from the Spectrum app, reboot, open Magisk and retick Spectrum in the Deny List, and then try to open the app.
Thank you both for replying! I tried all of that and still same issue. I guess I'll try contacting the app developer. I'm surprised this phone hasn't been added to the supported devices list. I was just hoping someone here had the 9 pro as well and had experience with the Spectrum app.
Maybe it would be possible to trick the app into thinking I have a Galaxy or something? Obviously those are supported. Probably too much trouble though lol.
I have a OnePlus 9 Pro, running C48, rooted with Magisk 24.3, and the Spectrum TV app works for me, using Deny List and the Universal SafeNet Fix. Do you subscribe to Spectrum as your wifi or cable provider? It used to be that the app wouldn't work unless you were connecting to the same wifi (or in the same area, if using mobile data) that you are obtaining from Spectrum. Not sure if that still applies, though.

I subscribe to their internet and cable service. It used to work on my Oneplus 7 Pro which was also rooted. I've only had this phone since February. I tried the universal safety fix just now and re added Spectrum to the deny list but same thing unfortunately :/
*edit* I've noticed Spectrum TV keeps ubchecking itself from the deny list even without rebooting.
Did you force stop the app, then clear its cache and data, reboot, retick Spectrum in Magisk's deny list after rebooting, and then try the app?

Yeah, I tried all of that. What actually worked I found out about a module called Shamiko installed that and rebooted and tried the app again and it's working! Hopefully it stays working lol.

Hey are you by any chance still running it this way? I'm on a Moto G Power 2020 but I can't find any combination of anything that works. Shamiko, with deny list on or off (it says it doesn't work with the list enabled but that seems contrary to what we're trying to do with it) Nothing either way. USB debugging is off, Magisk app hidden. Still getting the Spectrum error. Somehow it knows anyway . All I can really think of is that Viper4Android is also running but that's a deal breaker as it's the whole reason I bought this phone in the 1st place, which was to be a dedicated music/podcast player and navigation phone for work. I'd just use the stock Pixel 6p I have for TV casting otherwise.
-- Edit -- Scratch that sorry I got it to work finally. I wasn't rebooting after disabling the enforcement list and trying with Shamiko module running. It works in that config now. Though I also installed kdrag0n Universal Safety Net fix as well so maybe that combo helped? Either way it did the trick finally and I don't have to worry about Viper being in the mix. Viper works (yes Neon enabled yes processing showing) while using SpectrumTV btw. In case anyone is wondering.
You don't need the universal sfn fix. I use shamiko and denylist in zygisk and every app and game works as intended for me. Fully passing SN. Only thing I don't have is L1, but I could give two butts less about that.
