Question No option to setup fingerprint on second space - Redmi Note 9T

Hi all,
I updated to MIUI 14 via OTA (global edition), but I am unable to setup a fingerprint on the second space (user 10). I tried launching the biometric fingerprint setup from a launcher activity application but it let's me scan my fingerprint but fails at the end saying it cannot add it.
Has anyone else experienced the same?
I also had to disable MIUI optimisation to be able to add a second user (second space), I tried reenabling MIUI optimisation and using an ABD command to switch user but it still sadly wouldn't work.
Thanks

You can get to the missing setup page by launching "second space fingerprint" com.miui.securityspace.ui.activity.SetFingerPrintActivity but it only adds it to the primary user despite whatever order you try and do. Useless Xiaomi / Redmi clearly not testing for bugs and/or removing features.

Smartlock for passwords on the Pixel C

I'd like to enable Google Smartlock for passwords on my Google Pixel C, but when I was running Android N, under Settings/Security it shows my device as encrypted with no option to turn it off. So, I reloaded MM, N still has a lot of bugs I don't feel like messing with on an everyday tablet, but even under MM my device is encrypted with no option to disable it. Smartlock for passwords will not run on an encrypted device, but Google has decided to make encryption part of the OS. Is the only way around this is to unlock the bootloader and flash another ROM?

I never encrypt my devices so I couldn't speak about smart lock only working on encrypted devices. I know Marshmallow and up it's required for OEMs to encrypt (85% sure on that - I think it was supposed to start with Lollipop but OEMs weren't required to do so). Not that I don't believe you though, but that just seems weird for Google to "force" encryption but then allow another of their features, Smart Lock, to only work with unencrypted devices?
To answer your question - if you're running stock MM or N on a Google device, by default your data will be encrypted. The only way to decrypt would be to unlock the bootloader, format the data partition and flash a kernel that doesn't force encryption. You don't have to use another ROM per se, you just need a kernel that will keep you decrypted on your first boot.
I've no issue with smartlock on Pixel C, stock N5 and unencryted N9. I've only use trusted location - without GPS I wonder if you are having a problem with your location. Have you got "location" correctly set?
Ok, on your Pixel C, go into settings/Google, then scroll all the way to the bottom where it says Smartlock for Passwords, press it, and tell me what it says. When I do, it says, "This account uses custom passphrase encryption, which is unsupported at this time."
However, if I go to settings/security, I can enable Smart Lock, but just underneath where it says Smart Lock, it says:
Encryption
Encrypt Tablet
Encrypted
I never chose to encrypt anything, but, I guess Google uses encryption by default. Smart Lock can still be used, but Smartlock for Passwords can not.

Sorry misunderstood. I think the answer is that using your own passphrase disables Smartlock on Android see: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/1181035?p=settings_encryption&rd=1
"Some Google features will not be available after you set a sync passphrase
Google Now won’t show suggestions based on sites you browse in Chrome.
You won't be able to view your saved passwords on https://passwords.google.com or use Smart Lock for Passwords on Android.
Your history won't sync across devices. Web sites or URLs that you type in the address bar in Chrome will still sync."
Setting for Google/custom passphrase in chrome browser at chrome://settings/syncSetup
The strange thing is I don't use a custom passphrase, all of my information does sync between all of my devices, and I get Google Now cards based off my search history. However, last night, when I logged into an app, Smartlock for Passwords popped up and asked me if I wanted to save this password, so I guess it's working now. It still shows my tablet as encrypted, so I imagine it's just a bug.

Nexus 6 - Can't add account, Can't enable PIN and missing features

I just flashed my Nexus 6 and have a couple of issues. When I try to enable a PIN in the settings, settings force closes. I enabled the PIN during the setup wizard and it works for encryption, but lock screen security is set to swipe and I can't change it. Also, when I try to add a second Google account it says "Sorry, there seems to be a problem. Please try again." I've tried several times. Last, some of the features mentioned on the website seem to be missing or I just don't know how to access or enable them, such as, the pie navigation menu.
Thanks for the work on this ROM. Other than these minor issues, it lives up to what I've heard.
1. PIN is known issue, already fixed for next build.
2. Please get a log regarding your Google account error
3. The website has not been updated
Here's a link to the bug report I created: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvkduiqlrfd37wh/bugreport-2016-06-13-11-55-13.txt?dl=0
Thanks again.

User profiles on Galaxy S9?

Would anyone know if the Galaxy S9 natively supports user profiles so that multiple users can login and use the same phone with their unique settings and apps? If not would anyone be able to recommend an application that could accomplish this?
The functionality has been disabled for stock Samsung ROMs long time ago (if it was ever enabled). There were some discusions in the past regarding this and what I remember is that you need root for this to work. You have to edit build.prop and include the lines:
fw.show_multiuserui=1
fw.max_users=n (where "n" is a number indicating the max users on device - should be at least 2)
Alternative is to flash an AOSP based ROM that has the function enabled.

I unfortunately cannot root the device as it will be provisioned for company use :/ is there a launcher that could help to accomplish this?
Sorry, none I know. The functionality is deep embeded in the OS, a launcher would not be enough to accomplish that
You could however use dual accounts for certain apps or mail and also use Secure Folder to lock out personal/private data. This way you will have some sort of multi user since the secure folder keeps data in separate encrypted form

Question regarding CA certificate installation by MobileIron MDM Software on MIUI 10

x-post from miui forum
Hi,
I'm having some issues installing MobileIron MDM on my Mi 6, I'm running MIUI 10 Global 8.9.13 Beta. The installer works and the device is passing all required checks (i.e. device is encrypted, not rooted etc.) and the configuration is starting. But there's one point during the configuration which requires the installation of a certificate. At that point the installer is asking the user to enter a password by pressing and holding the password field for the context menu to paste the password which should be on the Android clipboard (see screenshot) which doesn't work, there is no password on the clipboard. I can use the 'Paste' function but nothing is entered into the password field.
I've done this on other phones and other Android versions before and it has always worked without any issues.
Has anybody of you encountered such a problem before? Copy/Paste generally works in other applications but during the installation the clipboard remains empty (I also tried to paste into a text field in a different application, didn't work).
Has something around the handling of certificate installations and/or access to the clipboard changed in MIUI 10?
Many thanks in advance!
BR,
Thorsten
I was able to fix it today. I've been trouble-shooting this with a Xiaomi Mi 5 and Xiaomi Mi 6 phone on different versions (MIUI 9 and MIUI 10, both global stable and global developer) but I now believe the version doesn't really matter, the "fix" should be applicable to all versions with this issue.
Here's a brief description of what happened -- this might make a bit of a confusing read, but bear with me: During the installation the user gets that notification about “Press paste on the next screen to insert password for the certificate….” but the next screen is not the certificate import (it is most likely a system dialog asking for the regular device PIN but I couldn’t fully test that step).
So there's that dialog where I thought I should paste the certificate password -- the step that repeatedly hadn’t worked. Today I finally used the “forgot password” function. I had tried that before but always cancelled it because the “forgot password” function was just asking for another password – which didn’t make sense to me at that time.
Today I noticed how the “forgot password” function brings up a dialog which contains my MI account number. That made me realize that the FIRST dialog might have actually asked for my device PIN (despite asking for a password) with the second dialog (after the “forgot password”) providing the option to remove the device PIN (or password) by entering the MI account password.
Long story short: I entered my MI account password which kind of “unlocked” the whole (and terrible) “import certifcate, don’t change certificate name, paste password” ordeal. [email protected] is working flawlessly now. It seems there’s some form of MIUI function around the MI account “protecting” the certificate store, that's why that MIUI dialog interfered with the [email protected] installation in an unfortunate and unexpected way.
Good luck to all who run into the same issue.

Removing encryption causes problems?

If anyone can help that would be awesome - this is the first time i have encountered this problem on an android device.
one of the first things i do is remove encryption on my android phones because
1. i like the option
and 2. i notice a considerable amount of difference.
now starting from Pie we have metadata encryption with file encryption
removing metadata encryption causes 0 problems.
however when i remove file encryption i run into a problem
i am un-able to setup a fingerprint (the option isnt even there anymore)
also when i set up a PIN, i am unable to change it (it says incorrect pin)
when i use the pin to unlock the phone, it says "wrong pin" but it works in unlocking the phone.
i didnt experience this on my oneplus 5/6 or samsung / huawei devices having them decrypted.
does anyone know how we can get fingerprint / pin working without encryption?
i notice the phone is more responsive and snappy without encryption
