Pardon my english not american.
I have the latest samsung update:
Changing the volume of slider of Ringtone works. Tried calling myself from other phone it works
Change the volume of media sound works. Watching youtube works
Changing the volume slider of notification doesn't give a sound.
Changing volume slider of system doesnt give a sound.
Vibrate works.
Went per each app info > settings > notification > allowed sound and vibration then in addition to selected custom tones for them. If they have notification categories I added custom tones each.
I did a hard reset
I wiped cache
did not do its job
Can anyone help? If not how do I enable logs to check the culprit.

I've had this happen on RC2 as well...
After I've put the volume all the way down (vibrate only mode) and then turned the volume back up, none of my notification sounds will play. When I get sms/email the vibrate will go off but not the tone. I've checked Handcent and GMail settings and they both have a tone selected. However, once I get a txt/email, only vibrate no sound. My call ringtones, volume up/down, apps, music..etc works, but no notification.
Anyone help?
Grab Audio Guru from the market. It lists out all the system sound modes and lets you control all six of them individually. I had this happen once and found one of my sound controls set to zero. Used the slider in Audio Guru to increase it to max, problem solved.
I cant get my default notification sound to change - I can change the gmail new email sound to change from within the gmail settings but for pop email, sms etc the sound doesn't change no matter which sound I pick?
Am I doing something wrong?
Tks
Have a look at the guide below.

Personalizing with sound sets
Each sound set gives you a different combination of sounds for your ringtone and notifications such as incoming messages, email, calendar event reminders, and more. By switching between sound sets, you can instantly make HTC One X ring or alert you with fun sounds when you're out with friends or change to subtle sounds while you're at work.
Creating a sound set
Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap > Personalize.
On the Sound tab, tap Sound set.
On the Sound sets screen, tap .
Enter a new sound set name, and then tap Done.
The newly created sound set is then added to the list of sound sets. You can assign different tones to the sound set to your preference.
Changing your ringtone, notifications, and sounds
Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap > Personalize.
On the Sound tab, tap Sound set.
Choose a sound set you want to customize, or create a new one, and then tap Apply.
Change the ringtone, notification sound, and alarm from the Personalize screen.
HTC One X automatically saves your choices to the current sound set.
Deleting sound sets
Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap > Personalize.
On the Sound tab, tap Sound set.
Tap .
Select one or more sound sets you want to delete.
Tap Delete.

I think the poster meant that regardless of which sound you set as notification sound, it will still use the default notification sound. Just to clarify, even though it wasn't necessary as I've owned an htc android phone before, I did read the guide as i was stumped too. I can select any custom sound for notifications, it just doesn't use it. It's different for email notifications though, that will use the sound I set without problems... Anyone have a fix? It was like this since it first came out of the box.

Happened to me on an earlier release of leedroids rom I just reinstalled and it fixed it
If on stock all you can do it factory reset or run a RUU.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I just installed CM 10.1, have been on 4.1.2 before this.
I can't find the right settings for a sound mode where gmail notificiations will only play a sound and not vibrate.
I have disabled vibration in the options in Gmail, but the Gmail notifications are still vibrating. I have also tried the various sound modes available in CM. This is a deal killer for me because my phone will be vibrating all day long annoying the hell out of me. Putting it in silent and also losing the sound notification is not an option.
This seems to be an issue others have pointed out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785800&page=3
Is there a fix/workaround?
Found the issue...it was profiles. I have to go into the Application Groups in the Profiles menu and change all the application options to not override for ring, vibrate, and light.
Awesome post!! Thanks so much for bringing this up....
as a new user I did not know how profiles override system settings in the setting menu. ESPECIALLY vibrate and notifications!!!
Thanks
Changed my default notification and ringtone sound to one that I downloaded. It plays fine when I select it in the Settings --> Sound --> Ringtone/Notification. However it does not play when I get a call or a TXT. And yes, my volume is up.
On a side note, I am so ticked that I cannot set the ringtone and notification volume levels independently!! I cant stand the wait for ROOT so we get some good ROMS

Maybe a dumb question, but have not installed any type of profile app right? I use profile apps so I can quickly change to different setups for night, meetings etc.
Well I do have Sound Manager installed. Since the ringtone and notifications is tied together right now, this app is mostly useless.
I did verify that sounds were turned up. Once I selected a sound that is included with the phone everything is fine. really a pain.
Is there seriously no way of setting individual volume levels for the ringtone and the notifications in vanilla android?!
Click volume rocker and the last volume change slider will appear. Click the drop down arrow on right side of slider and you can change individual volumes.
Sorry misread. I don't believe there is a way to change notification and ring separately
Is there a way to do it without root?
I like my notification volume reasonably quiet without it impacting the ring volume.
Sound profile in play store works well
