So I got one from a friend for a few hundred, and it went weird on me 6 months later. Seems some moisture got into the 4-way switch and caused it to fail. So I went on eBay and got another (sure like this phone). It suffered the same fate. Seems a bead or two (maybe a gallon or two) of sweat rolled off my face on a hot day and it is what caused the malfunction. Also, I couldn't get the BlueTooth to work right. I have these two units for sale. Two charging cradles, a universal case. I think that's all I have. Anyone interested? First reasonable offer takes it all. Don't say 2 bucks or anything stupid, for I'll just ignore you and act like I never saw your post. These phones would be good for parts. The screens are good. The bodies have a few scratches and dings. The keyboards are okay looking, but fully functional.
Let's hear it....
25 dollars for one
How about 75 takes everything?
only need one. heck i got a working one on ebay for only 100
Lemme think about it a bit. You may have a deal on your hands, though. If we do this, you pay the freight?
absolutely
The lumia 800 has eliminated it. I'm not even certain I try to stop myself from dropping it anymore. I just kinda let it happen.

Wish I could say that for my Titan! Messed the back plate real bad last time I just 'kinda let it happen'!
Luckily was within the exchange period
BTW Titan 1 year warranty covers 1 accessory - so if this happens again, I might have to replace the back. But yeah, thanks for making me jealous!
Ouch, I know how it feels, I dropped every single phone I had. Sometimes I've been lucky, sometimes not. It's a freaking pain, I don't trust any OEM, no matter how tough they say their phone is, and I use cases. Anyway I'm an active person and so even cases are often not enough for me: I always manage to destroy EVERYTHING at some point.
Anyway are you REALLY sure that your phone will endure some serious drop? I mean it should at least get somewhat worn in those sharp corners or something...what if it hits the floor with the glass? With that curved shape it could take some serious hit. I'd be even more OCD with this phone than I am with my plasticky Omnia
Btw, do you use a screen protector on it?
It happened to me with the Samsung Omnia 7 a few times, but it was ok
No case or screen protector, survived a two story fall.
Polycarbonate must be really tough, I'd still be concerned about the glass, sure it's Gorilla glass but if you live in a sandy place and you're an offroad biker like me it's never tough enough. I've even managed to scratch the sapphire crystal on my good old Sector last year. I had to break my wrist against a rock in the process tho...nothing too bad, it was just my left hand, I could still use the phone with my right hand

My one year old tosses his around as I'd expect. Might not be as intense as off road biking, but he's close.
I really wanted to get a Lumia a while ago, but I thought that the timing wasn't perfect yet: this is still Nokia's first WP7 device and therefore it can't be perfect, infact it's apparently a bit more buggy compared to other WP7 devices. At the end of the day if you don't care too much about camera, flash memory, screen size or build quality every second generation WP7 device performs equally well. Before I pull the trigger on a fully blown WP7 flagship I want to wait till Apollo and the real superphones come out. Hopefully I will resist with this little Omnia until then, but I'm pretty sure it will become a pain at some point...

Think Windows were going to support current + 2 OS updates on all phones. I would presume Gen1s will run uptil Gen3s and Gen2s till Gen4s. I hope Nokia has something more than L900 with Apollo release! I am eyeing that, even though I've got a Titan to play with. It's the design I think.
I want a 800 with an ffc. It'd be perfect. I'm honestly not fond of huge phones despite having sledgehammers as hands.
Remind me to never let you handle my phone should I ever meet you.
A girl from my work just recently dropped her brand new (only 3 days old) Iphone on the concrete in her basement when doing laundry. LOL... and that's why phones should not be made of out glass.
Haven't dropped my week-and-a-half old Cyan Lumia 800 yet, and don't plan on it for a while.
Had a Nokia 8600 LUNA a while back. The back was matte black steel and the entire front was smoked black glass. Was a year before I dropped it on concrete, then another week before the 2nd drop. Right when I dropped it the first time, and got it scratched... my immediate thought was... "I'm so glad I had it for a year before dropping it!"
Looking forward to the durability of the Lumia, though I don't have the tendency to drop my phones, if you don't count them getting flung around when the USB cable catches on my foot.
I moved to windows phone because my 2 month old HP veer broke when dropped
Dropped my titan today off my sink onto our bathroom tiles. It has a hard rubberized case that was a cheapo from ebay, with no real protection under the screen.
outcome, powers up fine and no issues at all, and not even a scratch on the case!. Way better than any of the new iphones would be.
For those of you who can't be trusted with an expensive phone...

I knocked my Lumia 800 of my kitchen counter and it landed face down onto the tiled kitchen floor and it slide underneath the kitchen table. From the smack sound it made when it hit the floor I knew the screen was cracked and to be honest I was pissed off because I had read on here at how tough it was.
Well f*ck me there wasn't a mark on it!

I'd buy one if it wasn't android.
I have dropped my HTC HD7 (yes some still exist) multiple times, and it is fine. The back just flies off and the battery just comes out. Once it flew out of my pocket while I was running across the street. Compare that to my friend who's Iphone screen has cracked like 4 times (literally-none of them were bad drops either). Love my phone.
Yeah, I know, another stupid question from me. I try to be as careful as I can possibly be when it comes to my phones and other expensive electronics. To the best of my bad memory, I can't remember the last time I've dropped a phone on the ground. My s/o and her daughter drop their phones often and seem careless when handling them, especially when they're pissed off. I'm ocd in some ways and I take great pride in treating my phones carefully and not tossing them around. My gf just got a e4gt last night. I was talking to her about the deep scratches her daughter's phone had, like it was dropped on concrete. She got all defensive and started in about "well I'm not perfect!"
I didn't insinuate that I was perfect, only that I was very careful with them. The daughters phone used to be mine. She's on her third replacement of the phone too.
Instead of me rambling as usual, what are your thoughts? I'm so ocd, to give you an idea, I gave someone a two way amateur radio that I wasn't using anymore. I had probably 800 invested in it. I also ALWAYS kept it in its protective leather case. It was maybe 4+ years old and when I took it out of the case to show the guy I was giving it to, it was flawless. Not a scratch or blemish on it. OK, lets hear your stories.
Isn't that humans we're all different ....

Since I'm sitting on the can, typing out on my phone, not going to get into a story...
But hell yes. I take care of my stuff that I love. I've never understood why people treat their expensive electronics like disposable items.
I stopped buying my teenage daughter nice smartphones. She would render them ugly and useless in 2 months. Everytime.
Since I made her save for the full price of a phone she wanted, magically it still works a year later!
When I worked in computer repair, I would see this all day long...
People would buy new $1000 laptops, treat them like ****, slam the lids shut, toss them around, drop them, wander around the house holding them by a corner while they are on and have things dangling from the usb ports, toss them on counters, eat food and drink beer next to them...
Then 6 months later, wonder why they don't work, wonder why the HD is failing, whether usb ports are broken, blame the company for making ****ty devices, or worse blade us for selling them ****ty devices.
Asshats.
Sent from my calculator watch.
Both of my teenage daughters are extremely careless with their electronics. I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on replacements for them and they just keep breaking them. I told them both "NO MORE REPLACEMENTS!". Since then, they have both broken their phones again....and they'll be stuck with their busted phones until their birthdays. They friggin' break everything...even their ipods. My ex is careless with her **** too. I think it's a chick thing.
My son, on the other hand....is like me. He babies his gadgets and hasn't broken a single one. Good boy. Lol
I baby the **** out of my phones. If I drop my phone you'll see me cringe. Maybe even shed a tear. I've only dropped my phones a handful of times, probably less than 10 total times, over the past 8 years or so, and I still haven't dropped my E4GT. Hope I don't jinx it. But my ex is careless with her phones. Within 3 months they look like ****, scratches, scuffed to hell... sorry, but I like my expensive electronics to look nice! THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT THEM! BECAUSE THEY LOOK NICE!
I think this translates to all electronics, as well. My laptop, aside from probably having crumbs under the keys, is nearly flawless after 3 years. My Xbox 360 has never red-ringed, yet I know people who have had 5 Xboxes over the years due to red rings and whatnot. Maybe I just give mine adequate ventilation? DUNNO! But everything electronic that I own, I treat with the respect and care that it deserves. If you take care of things, they last longer. It is a fact.
So glad you posted this thread. Dumb *****es be droppin' phones errywhere I go!

I'm always careful with anything somewhat expensive too. My phone has yet to be dropped or scratched in any way. I always get pissed when people (like my mom...) handle my stuff in any way I don't like, even though they think they're being fine. Just yesterday my mom tried to put my binder and math book on top of my laptop. <_< I'm ocd and very protective about all my stuff.
Also, about the xbox issues, rrod depends on a lot of things. Keeping it shoved up against a wall on carpet and letting it get dusty will obviously not help, but it mostly has to do with the motherboard revision you have. How old is your xbox? Since the 2nd and 3rd revisions of the motherboard rrod is very hard to cause (for someone who actually cares about their devices). My 360 from pretty much launch day got the rrod a while back, so I opened it up and fixed it, but once it permanently failed, I got a slim which won't ever fail me. None of my personal jtags have never had any problems except for a xenon a while back (xenons are from the initial release of the 360). Wow, I just ranted on a lot about that so I guess I'll stop now, haha. By the way, I work a lot with modding 360's (both hardware and software) , so that's why I'm into this. If anyone ever has any xbox related questions just ask me

Yeah, I baby mine too(aside from flashing the #@!& out of it some nights). I put a high quality case and screen protector on it in the parking lot after I got it. And if I ever drop it I get the cringe of death. But regardless of what I've heard some say, I am impressed with the build quality in the event of human blunder

I'm bad about coddling my phone too I have different color cases to match my clothes and I never rock it naked I have a vinyl skin on it underneath the case and if my housing ever gets scratched I wet sand and buff the scratch out lol, my wife's phone on the other hand lives in a suitcase sized purse with the 9billion pounds of junk she keeps in there so it looks like its done 2 tours in Afghanistan lol

Nothing drives me crazier than someone who doesnt take care of the phone. I work as an IT in the military, so you can say I've seen some dumb [email protected]/t happen to phones, computers, monitors, you name it. One of the absolute worst cases was when this guy called me down to the "engineering" space to look at one of the computers... Opened it up cause the "video just quit working all of a sudden". Poured about 2 cups of coffee out of the case. Then they had the nerve to ***** to my boss after I told them I wasn't going to replace it since tgey were acting lime a bunch of animals.
Back on topic... I HATE when people dont take care of their phones. My buddy (back before android days) had a brand new iphone 3g. Somehow ran over it (not comepletely) and cracked the whole top half of his phone. Somehow it was still able to make and receive calls....but still, who does that?

Im anal about my phones like that, they always have a TPU case and screen protector. 9 months later they still look brand new.
I usually buy a cheap case each time i get a new phone but only use it for like a week because i hate the extra bulk. but thank god for gorilla glass cuz today i dropped my phone about 6 feet screen down on concrete and theres not a scratch
I treat mine like it is a bomb. If I let it drop ill die with it. On another note my wife always take care of her electronics. They are all in mint condition.

I've dropped my phone 20ish times in the three months I had it.. caught them all thankfully, but the back elevated lip is a little scuffed, not sure why..
last week my girlfriend was talking and she was using hand motions, (at chest level) and she knocked my phone another 2 feet in the air over cement.. i caught it.. dear god ive never been so happy.. time to use the case..

I think it usually comes back to who has to pay for the replacements. In my experience, people who have to pay for their own crap take better care of it. It's the ones with protection plans, too much money, or parents who aren't willing to teach them the value of taking care of their stuff who get careless. And yes, it does seems to be far more common with women.
Luckily, my gf takes decent care of her stuff. Being a broke college student who can't afford to replace stuff makes you cautious. I don't even bother keeping mine in a case. I'm careful with it and I never drop it. I just can't stand to take such a nice device and cram in inside a huge, unsightly case. Half the reason I bought it was because it was so light and thin. I bought it the day it was release and I have a tiny scratch on one side that's actually from trying to get a ****ty case off with a coin and a faint line on the back where the speaker bulge touches.
I got pissed because I got a TINY scratch on my backup NS4G. I baby my phones like no other but my laptop... that's another story. I use it for Netflix and Odin and that's it. It doesn't get near the respect that my phones do
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I'm not as careful as I should be with my phone. It's because in 1-2 years it's going to replaced anyways so I just don't feel that sense of attachment.
I still follow basic care though like slapping a case on it, not putting my keys in the same pocket, that sort of thing.
Okay, so, I found out the hard way that even with a hard-shell-back case on the S4, it is very much NOT pocket friendly. Last week (5 days ago), I put my S4 (which i've babied from day 1 and looks brand freakin' new), pull it out of my pocket 5 minutes later to a dead screen. After some fiddling by taking everything out and plugging it back in, I found the screen kind of came back but failed again shortly after that. The S4 felt light to begin with, I didn't think there's a shred of metal anywhere in the device to provide a supportive internal structure to keep things from bending in a way they shouldn't (one of the reasons I bought the case at T-Mo's 80% markup)... After calling in to claim on my warranty (this thing is 6 months old), I brought it into a store and spoke with a rep who said it looked perfect otherwise, brand new, however he confirmed my suspicions that they're only plastic framed. This design is great for many reasons, weight being one, but horrible for things such as pockets, imagine if I had sat down in a car with it in my pocket instead of just walking down the stairs at work and using a urinal... the thing would have been obliterated, even in it's hard-back case. Wanted to get out there and find out if anyone else has had some issues with the S4 and pocket incidents.
To note, I have a random replacement device coming back because they didn't have an S4 on back-back-order and decided rather than to make me wait, they just shipped something android to me, probably not an S4, and if it is, it's black, which I will promptly return because I live in Arizona and black is the worst idea for a color of anything out here unless you want it to be hotter than hell when you touch it. Let's hope they got me something good, not HTC, and not black, I suspect I'm gonna lose this roulette and be stuck with this awful HTC HD7 (WinPhone7, fml) for a while, while I go back and forth with T-Mo to get my replacement android device.

I read the other thread on this subject in the I9505/I9500 forums... No one asked this question, what is your BMI (weight (lbs) divided by height (inches) squared multiplied by 703)? Just curious. Mine is 26.4 (considered overweight, can't argue with belly pudge), I wear skinny to straight pants, rocking a Neo Hybrid case - no issues or concerns (aside from the occasional stretch-out-leg-while-sitting-to-pull-phone-out issue). I walk up and down roughly 20 flights of stairs a day, use the urinal 3-4xs, and generally go about my day with my primary device damage concern coming from placing my keys in same pocket and droppage.

Smartass... they're kind of tight around the waist because I've put some weight on, however, they're not tight at the crotch, the pockets are a little tight, but I can get my hands in and out of the pockets with my wallet (much fatter than the phone) and the phone no problem before. I only had my phone on me at that time though.
TASL: Your BMI calculations, put them into mathematic notation, I'm trying to make sense of your phrasing and every number I come up with is either friggin tiny as hell and wrong, or is insanely high and completely wrong (cause I'm not the size of the damned planet...) Give me actual mathematical notation to follow so I can give you a number damnit.
BMI formula: (We[lbs] / (He[inches]^2)) * 703 = 35.95 -- I am overweight, but I'm not friggin obese, I can run, I can jump, I can climb, hell I can chase a city bus down for a quarter mile without too much trouble, I may be out of breath, but I'm not dying. These BMI calculations do not take into account where the weight is or how it's distributed. My doctors have told me I'm overweight for my build, but not by much, right now 50lbs, when I went in, I was only 25-30 over.

i was referring to skinny jeans lol im not that in shape myself
Actually this is kind of what happened to mine, only mine bent the frame along with the busted screen. Mind you this was a hot day and this particular car's A/C (1997 Saturn SL2) is slow to work on hot days (although it feels fine when it's warm but not humid). no more than 15 minutes in my pocket, *break*. of course I had my wallet next to mine.
I have mine in the Leather flip book case and its stable and durable enough to last in my pocket. i have had a slight issue with pocket dialing though, but probably because im not shutting off the screen before closing the case and putting it away.

Mine always wants to turn on its side in my pocket and sit horizontal instead of vertical... That's annoying.

Hey this question mostly guess for the people that have had their phone since launch Has it been worth the money? I was wondering how do u like it? and Is the battery as terrible as every YouTuber makes it seem? I just ordered and I'm so excited
Yes it's worth it!
Biggest downer for me is no e-sim.
Battery life is fine.
And most importantly the camera is FAR better than youtube reviewers are saying.
Again in my experience.
I got it a few days before launch day and have loved it every day since. The big screen is totally worth it! I almost never use the outer screen, just occasionally for things like telling the med reminder app I took my med if my phone is already folded, or camera preview so I can take a more quality selfie with the back cameras (phone open), etc. Battery life is good for me. Speed and storage (larger version) are great, screen quality (on natural not vivid) is great, etc. The T-mobile connection issues suck and I hope they are fixed soon, but not all T-mobile customers have the issue (my friend in another state doesn't). But, the temporary fix helps - I just need them to fix it so it can roam so I'm not worried when traveling anywhere. Finding a good case isn't fun, though. I like the one I have now, but I don't think it would protect it very much from a drop/fall.
I've had it since launch..............believe it or not, I use the outer screen more than the inner one. I have taken it on vacation a couple of times. The most recent trip was to Hawaii back in December. Just before we left, I found a case that had a built-in kickstand and actually added more bulk to the phone than I realized..........well, that made the device cumbersome carrying it around on hikes and to the beach. Sometimes, depending on what shorts I was wearing, I would carry the phone in my left hand while walking around Waikiki just so it wouldn't "weigh" me down. I went back to the slimmer case after I got home. Phone has been out since August, and haven't seen anybody else with the same phone. I thought I would on vacation, but trips to busy airports, shopping malls, etc...........didn't see another person with the ZFold. I know it's expensive but you see big iphones everywhere and those aren't cheap either. I do miss the width of my Note-10+ instead of this slimmer one. Was tempted to do the trade-in for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but will probably wait to see if the ZFold4 is any better and might upgrade to that. Only problem is, the trade-in value of the ZFold3 will drop by then. I hear the next Fold will have the S-pen and a 5000mah battery, not sure if that is enough to upgrade. Currently, you can get $900 trade-in through Samsung, T-Mobile chat person said I can get $1000 through them..............but will probably hold on to mine for now. I don't do any multiple apps tasks, but probably should try to do more to maximize its use and justify why I got it. The 5G on it, for the most part, isn't great. I was getting the 5G UC symbol a couple of weeks ago and not anymore. There was a software update last week and I think it was a T-mobile update to get rid of that symbol, didn't include the Feb security patch. Currently with the Speedtest app, getting 20.9 download, and 6.57 upload. It was way better than that prior to the update.............thanks T-mobile!

I need to shut up, as I picked up my phone today and it jumped out of my hands. I tried to catch it, but couldn't quite get it as it bounced off my fingers and onto the hardwood floor inner screen face-down. I thought it was a goner when I picked it up and the touch sensors were not working on the inner screen (tried to get to the notification I needed to respond to as I took my med), but I turned the screen off and back on again and it was working fine again. Tested most of the diagnostics in the Samsung Members app and everything was fine. Phew!
The front screen side of the case did slide off a bit in the fall, but it didn't break and slid back on when I picked it up. I do use double-sided tape so it doesn't slide every time I open the phone (don't want to scratch the front screen), but it wasn't enough for the fall.

Nice to hear that it didn't break. I think I dropped mine (folded) about a month or two after I got it and nothing happened, case protected it.....seems to be very durable device.
For me personally. Its worthed it. I upgraded from my 1 year old iPhone 12 Pro Max. Now i can freely buy accessories without worrying that it wouldn't work(because not all accessories are MFI certified in Indonesia).
And not to forget that the Z Fold 3 when closed is not that wide, thus making it easier for 1 handed use.
Yes and no chance to change it!!!
I have it since the launch. I have also a Iphone 13 pro. I have tried meanwhile s21 and Pixel 6 and Mi11 Ultra. So now a couple of months of using I can only say: Once Fold and forever Fold. Yes it's heavy and bulky. But Yes is the only one TABLET that is good for one hand operation and phone calls and can you carry in pants pocket. And the camera is not super duper but is top, and the battery (SOC Snapdragon) is far better than any other Exynos on the market and on the planet.

So am I! I'll be paying for this phone for the next 2.5 years, so it needs to stay in one piece for a long time to come. My previous phone I had for 5-6 years, but of all it wasn't a folding phone. A friend of mine dropped his Fold 3 on tile and had to get a new front screen protector, but it otherwise survived the fall.

I actually like the bulk of the phone when closed because it makes it easier to hold and carry without dropping it (when I dropped it, it was open to the inner screen), and I'm saying this as a woman with small hands (medium glove size).
Took a look at the fold3 in an at&t store the other day. Looks like they have the first generation bugs squished. By the time I'm ready to buy a new one, I'll probably get the fold 4 or 5.
Love the phone. Love it so much I have a second as a backup in case this one breaks (truth!). I love the ability to use the front screen one handed. I love having that big inner screen when multitasking or reviewing/editing large documents. The only thing I also wish I had was a zoom/macro lens. It doesn't even have to be a nice one, just a passable one. But I don't take many pictures so I usually let that slide.
I've had mine since October 2021 and it's been one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had with a gadget. The display is amazing, it's fast, camera is decent enough, I love tablet mode, like really, really love it. I definitely can't wait for the next generation of foldables because it's just going to get better. It's definitely worth buying now however, if your still having doubts.

I bought the Oppo Find N (foldable) as my backup. It's actually a really awesome phone, with features and design choices that I find better than my Z Fold 3. One thing is it's size, it's fantastic, definitely the better choice on Oppo's side to choose such a wide design. It's even better when you use it in tablet mode as it's aspect ratio is 16:9, which means more apps support it better.
for me i like having the 2 phone factor one big one small, so I am never really bored looking and using it. I find when I am home and chilled i use the big screen more but when i am out and about the small screen, If only they can cut away some of the weight it would be perfect.
It’s just an incredible experience. I have been a loyal Note fan since the first Note, but after owning the Fold 3 I can safely tell you that I won’t go back to a slab phone, even to a Note

I've had a z Fold 3 since the 1st month it came out. Great phone but I ended up pre-ordering the S22 Ultra just to test the waters. Been a note fan since the early days. Just received the S22 ultra this week and it's also a great phone. The integrated s pen and bigger battery has definitely tipped the scales in favor of the S22 ultra so I'll be returning the Fold. I will miss that huge screen though!
Had the phone since february, dropped it once and although the front body dented a little bit, the phone is still working well. Been using the bigger screen for media and the smaller screen for calls and short messages. IDK why some doesn't have e-sim but mine does.
I've had the Fold 3 for around a month now, as I had to replace my Note 9 N960N. I can honestly say that it is the best purchase I have made this year. It is such a good device, I can use it for everything from gaming to media consumption for work. It is truly a very versatile device.
The fact that you can use it as a normal phone and open it up to a tablet for a more completely experience blows my mind every time I use it.
