Note 10+ android 12 TWRP + root - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

I've been trying to get my note 10 + rooted with TWRP installed but no matter what i can not get both at the same time. I've tried every combination of things to get it to work such as patching TWRP .tar with magisk then flashing it using odin to simply flashing TWRP and trying to install Magisk through TWRP but nothing seems to work, since after i get back into android, Magisk isn't showing as installed. Has anyone been able to get it to work with Android 12?
Thanks.

G928TUVU4DPK6 Firmware Root Issues

Has anyone upgraded their firmware to PK6 and attempted to root? I don't have any issues flashing TWRP with Odin. None whatsoever. When I flash a SuperSU zip or a PHH Superuser zip, I cannot get past the T-Mobile boot animation. It freezes every time. Once this happens I cannot boot to recovery. I can only boot to Download Mode. Hell, I can't even power down my device after I flash a root zip. Just curios if anyone has dealt with this issue. I have attempted to flash SuperSu zips starting with the 2.71 Beta up to the 2.78 SR5 with zero luck. I've also tried with PHH Superuser and I get the same results. Can anyone shed and light on the subject?
After several failed attempts to root my Galaxy S6 Edge+ (SM-G928T) with the latest firmware update to 6.0.1, G928TUVU4DPK6, this is what I had to do to get a working root solution. At no time did I ever have a problem installing TWRP with Odin. Ive been using Odin 3.12.3 but I had the same issues with Odin 3.10.7.
I started with a clean slate and performed a fresh install of the stock firmware which I downloaded from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...al/sm-g928t-stock-odin-g928tuvu4dpk6-t3516310
After flashing the stock firmware with Odin 3.12.3 I did the basic setup on my device to make sure I could boot and everything was working. Next, I shut down my device and booted to Download Mode by using the key combination of Volume Down + Home + Power. Once booted into Download Mode I used Odin again to flash TWRP 3.0.2-0, which is available here:
https://dl.twrp.me/zenltetmo/
After the flash was complete I booted to recovery using Volume Up + Home + Power. When TWRP starts it will ask you if you want to swipe to allow system modification. If you swipe to allow system modifications you will trigger DM-Verity and you will not be able to boot normally unless you flash a custom kernel that has DM-Verity disabled in the fstab or you can flash the no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip that I dowloaded from here:
https://build.nethunter.com/android-tools/no-verity-opt-encrypt/
The newest version available is 5.0
So, I swiped to allow system modifications. Next, I transferred the no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip from my PC to my device and installed the zip in TWRP. Once this was completed, I transferred my root zip from my PC to my device. I used the PHH Superuser to root my device which is available here:
https://superuser.phh.me/superuser.zip
I installed the root zip in TWRP, wiped cache/dalvik cache and then selected Reboot System. I didnt know if I would be able to boot or not. I could never get past the T-Mobile boot animation each time I attempted to root this damn thing but low and behold everything went as planned and I was fully booted up and running. I went through the setup wizard and everything was working as it should.
I am using PHH Superuser instead of Chainfires SuperSU. Its a personal choice for me as I have been using PHH Superuser since the hand off of SuperSU to a new company, CCMT, LLC.
Once I was finally able to boot normally I downloaded PHH's app in the Play Store from here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.phh.superuser
This is just my experience of what I had to do to get root working on my S6 Edge+. All of my root apps are working as designed. I cant remember the last time I didnt have a rooted device and it was starting to bother me. I was having root withdrawals. If anyone decides to upgrade to the latest firmware from T-Mobile and wants a working root solution, here is what worked for me. I have not tried to use Chainfires SuperSU again. If you dont want to use PHH Superuser and wanted to use SuperSU instead, try to insert SuperSU in place of PHH Superuser and see what happens. Do this at your own risk because I have not tested it with this solution that I found. Good luck. Happy Rooting!!

I tried that version too and I ended up with the same problem each time. I figured it out last night though. Im going to update my OP with the steps I had to take to get it working and that way if anyone upgrades to the latest PK6 firmware for their G928T and has this problem my thread is available with a solution.

updationg to miui 11 with magisk

So guys my girlfriends phone just got the update to miui 11. Before i download it . Her phone is rooted with magisk with twrp recovery installed. How best do i apply the update without lossing root or having to wipe everything
Ditto! I gots the Redmi Note 8 Pro, unlocked with twrp and magisk 20. I got brave and actually tried to update it amd once it rebooted to begin the install twrp came up and so i just told it to boot to system without messing around with it. The update failed per the Mi firmware updater and im back at square one to download the update. So, how do i go about safely installing this sucker whilst still being able to retain or reobtain root? I went ahead amd download magisk in zip form and created a patched boot as well (although to my recollection, if i try to install magisc that way I'll be in bootloops). Anyone have it installed yet?

TWRP with android 10!

Has anyone else figured out how to get TWRP 3.5.2 on the Pixel 3 XL along with android 10 latest build?
I have successfully done it and I'm going to try the same method for android 11 as well.
If not I am willing to write up an install guide and share the TWRP Recovery for it as well.
i couldn't find any info here other then loads of people saying it does not work yet.
I'd like a guide, I'm trying to do exactly that by running through various guides and keep hitting walls that force me to back to reflashing the stock rom to try again.

sorry, not sure why the quote split to a different reply.
Anyway... what I'm trying to do:
Pixel 3 XL - Stock ROM of Android 10 (latest) Aug 2020
--can fastboot to TWRP
--can seemingly install ElementalX-P3-2.17 kernel (which based on all I've read is required for LZMA & TWRP)
--can install Magisk v23
--Attempting to install TWRP 3.5.2-10-Crosshatch seems to fail with various errors or bootloops wether using "TWRP install zip" or TWRP image.
...about the only thing I haven't tried yet is installing TWRP image to the boot partition, but feel that would cause a brick.

I used kirsekura if I’m spelling it right the 1.55 kernel. It seemed to allow terp in for recovery.

Boot loop any GSI & any Mint Kernel combo Galaxy A50 (SM-A505W)

My goal is to get a GSI with Android 11 or higher installed with the corresponding Mint Kernel. The reason being is I can't Magisk root a GSI (tried various methods like: Magisk patch TWRP recovery, install Magisk zip in recovery) and I believe the ramdisk=no is the problem on the SM-A505W variant of the Galaxy A50. I have rooted Pixel phones easily in the past.
I read a suggestion somewhere that installing Mint Kernel could help make rooting easier since Magisk is pre-installed (true?), but I can't get any GSI + Mint Kernel to boot.
GSIs attempted = lineage 18.1, 19.1, Palladium (android 11), SparkOS, Pixel Experience (android 11, 12)
I've then gone to fetch the corresponding Mint Kernel from https://github.com/FreshROMs/android_kernel_samsung_exynos9610_mint/releases
Is my variant just not able to work with Mint Kernel? I'm sure someone, somewhere knows a GSI and Mint Kernel combo that works and allows for Magisk rooting. If so, pls identify versions and any methods you used.
frustrated
p.s. Magisk 25.2 is my preference as I like this version best so far
p.s.s. I do use the key combo to boot from recovery vs system when trying to boot with Magisk when using only a GSI. Only been able to root stock firmware by Magisk patching AP file and flashing with ODIN, then using key combo VOL_UP + POWER (hold a few seconds) when powering phone to boot.
If you're able to boot a GSI with the stock kernel but not the Mint kernel, it sounds like the latter has some dependencies that a GSI does not provide.
Not having ramdisk should not prevent root. Using the stock kernel and a GSI, flash Magisk in TWRP following the GSI; once you install the Magisk app, you should have root access. This is the method I use on my Tab A 8.0, running the AOSP 13 GSI with the CUK4 kernel.

After GSI is installed, with stock kernel, once I flash Magisk 25.2 in TWRP (tried several TWRP versions I could find 3.5, 3.6, 3.7...) when I boot with VOL_UP + POWER (held for a few seconds) I either boot into recovery again OR dont have root when booted into android.
I believe this is the procedure (from what I've read).
With stock firmware, I get root holding VOL_UP + POWER (for a few seconds prior to booting). I dont use TWRP in this case, rather ODIN to flash Magisk patched AP file.

If you're flashing Magisk in TWRP, you don't need to boot into recovery. The recovery hijack is only for use with the stock recovery; no key combo is needed to enable root.
Again, the Ramdisk field does not have anything to do with whether or not you have root. When in the Magisk app, the Installed field should show the Magisk verision (25200). If it says N/A, you don't have root.
If you continue to have issues, this is what I suggest:
Use Odin to reflash everything back to stock
Flash the latest TWRP build for your device
Boot into TWRP, format both /system and /data (do NOT wipe /boot)
Install GSI to /system
Install Magisk
Reboot to system

thanks for the reply.
Followed the above steps, "installed" field = N/A so no root
Can't believe how hard it is to get root on this device with a GSI...
Using TWRP from: https://www.recovery-mode.com/twrp/twrp-3-7-0-for-samsung-galaxy-a50-a505x-update-20221026.html
TWRP file/version download=TWRP_v3.7.0-Unofficial_a50-1666700564.tar

Weird. Do you get any errors in TWRP when flashing Magisk?
Were you able to root the stock ROM?

Installation completed (appeared) successfully in TWRP. No errors when I read line-by-line. I installed it as a zip.
I can root the stock ROM, but didn't do it on this attempt before installing GSI. I followed the instructions above to a tee just to make sure.
To root the stock ROM I have to magisk patch the AP file (from stock) and flash that with ODIN. Then use special key combo to boot (VOL_UP + POWER) with root.

you can't flash magisk as zip to the recovery on old samsung devices "read magisk FAQs for samsung devices". Check out the fresh discord server so that you can get more assistance directly from the dev.

HD1900_11_F.22 boot.img

Hello
I updated my OnePlus 7T with the latest F.22 update and lost Magisk root. Not sure why; may be I forgot to disable Magisk modules(?).
Now my computer is toast so I can't even begin the payload dumper... And my laptop is widows 8 which seems to complain about any thing I try to run out install
So having no computer..
And no Magisk patched boot image
What could I do even if I get the patched boot image here... Is their any possible way to actually install the patched boot image?
Magisk only allows select and patch with out direct install option.
Reason I'm asking is that supposed to me a working method to install TWRP from another android... So it's tempting to see if the same method to install the recovery could install the boot also???
I'm tempted to try this:
How to Install TWRP Without a Computer
TWRP is the premiere custom recovery for Android because of how many devices it supports and how simple it is to use. But installing it in the first place hasn't always been the easiest thing to do — until now. With the help of a Magisk module, you can finally use one Android device to flash...
android.gadgethacks.com
If that installed TWRP then can I use TWRP to install the Magisk patched boot image???
Well any way... Long Day and longer story...
Decided to finally update the old slowest laptop to Windows 10 from Windows 8 (since desktop is BSOD) .... Then update and update and update that some more...
Then get the boot image dumped.... Then patched... Then installed finally installed...
Any way... Here's the boot.img and Magisk patched boot.img
Hopefully this is my day to contribute here finally.
Thanks and have a great day
