Question [CLOSED] gBoard voice typing not working properly - Xiaomi 13 Pro

Most of the times I am having problems with gBoard's voice typing: I click mic icon, I see the INITIALIZING... on the top bar, then I see SPEAK NOW... with mic's icon flashing, but when I speak nothing happens. Smetimes, at random, I do get text but with a long delays of sceonds, most of the times nothing...
Google assistant works, voice typing in Android auto works, mic works.... Just voice typing in gBoard.
Anyone else?

Let me add that I have two keyboards/languages set (ITA and ENG) and if I leave only either language, all goes back to normal.

Anyone here pls?

say "google" doesn't activate voice search?

Hi guys:
I have noticed a weird thing, I know there's a feature that you can say "google" after holding the home button and drag it to the google icon to activate the voice search. It works fine on me for a while, but I realized that after a while it doesn't work. Moreover, after a reboot, it would work again. Regular voice search still works fine by pressing the microphone button. Anyone know what's going on? I am on stock jellybean btw, but only rooted.
So it only works every now and again?
Also dragging any of the soft buttons up opens google now.
I have the same issue. The hotword option just randomly disappears. If you go into Google Now/Settings/Voice, the option to toggle it off and on is even gone. When you reboot it comes back, but then randomly disappears again at some point.
I had the same problem and realized i had the language under Google Now/settings/voice/language set to English (Australian).
After changing it back to Default-English (US), I have been able to consistently see the "say Google" option in the main Google Now page.
I have exactly the same problem, the language is always English (US), it still randomly disappears.

Do you use Light flow? I have noticed toggling "Accessibility" off and on when Light flow glitches out for me, or using Swype seems to kill hotword detection. Rebooting always seems to bring it back though
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I use both, light flow and Swype Beta. Which is killing the hot word detection ? How are they interfering anyway :s
I know from reading the issues log Light flow uses the Accessibility service. When you toggle Accessibility on and off, hotword detection disappears. It will just say "Search" in Google Now instead of Search or say Google. Dont know why but try it and youll see best way to avoid it is to not toggle that or just reboot after it happens
is there a good replacement for light flow ?

I only use lightflow, not swype, so I am sure lightflow will interfere for sure.
the same problem in here
just got an update of lightflow - we'll see how it rolls
anyway google now 'google' saying works only when EN(US) is set as language
what is more - i see that any internal integration (e.g. saying 'set timer for 10 minutes') works as well only when the overall system language is set to EN(US)
I noticed this last week also. When it wouldnt respond to saying "Google" it didnt say "Search, or say Google" in the textbox on the voice Search (Google Now) page.
I uninstalled Lightflow and not had any issues since.
I've noticed that the hot word and hot word option only appears when you have English us set.
Change to English uk and they both don't work, also the other hot word functions, send email etc don't work as well.
Disabling light flow and restarting the phone fixes it.

[Q] what happened to voice input?

Is there voice input apart from S Voice? I have tried a couple of other keyboards (including, of course the Google keyboard) and there is no mic icon to be found. I have scoured the menus, including the developers menu, finding nothing that would enable voice input or voice typing. Really perplexing and frustrating omission of a feature. I am running rooted and stock. Any ideas how/if it can be done? Thanx.
Samsung Keyboard has the Samsung Voice
Swype has it's Dragon key for voice input
You can also Select while typing Google Voice Input (not really a button but it is not really a keyboard either).
sorry, I don't understand...

Are you saying there is a way to get voice input? I do not know what the dragon key is. ?? I do not understand your last comment either. Sorry if I sound like a doof or something. I am fairly adept at setting up these phones but this issue just eludes me. Could you explain it to me like I was a 4 year old?

Yes.
You can select whatever keyboard you have loaded by selecting the keyboad symbol when you swipe down from the top.
Four Images...
1) Samsung Standard keyboard has a mic button
2) If you load Swype, they have what they call Dragon Talk which is the flame looking key on the right.
3) If when selecting input device (The keyboard at the top) and select Google Voice Type, you get
4) which is ready to listen to your text. It's not really a keyboard but can be used regardless of what keyboard you have selected.
Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to reply with attachments. I just downloaded Swype/Dragon and surprisingly the voice input works! However I still have no 'mic' button in Samsung or Google keyboards. Strange. Any ideas? I am happy to use the Swype but I would like to figure why that feature is not working in the other two keyboards.

make sure voice typing is selected in language and inputs under your settings.
on your keyboard if you have a 3rd party keybard to the left of the keyboards space bar (the one with the 3 lil dots on it) hold the button down until the button shows more options. One of them is the mic. the button will default to whatever that last selection is.
I get what you're saying...
The problem is there is no selection in settings to activate voice typing. Also on the Samsung keyboard, pressing the button to the left of the space bar only yields the options shown in the screen shots below. Again thanks for your input and assistance.

Oh in that case, you need to install Google search, will automatically install the voice and GNow features.
Thanks
Yep, that did it. Thank you. Pretty lame that this isn't a feature of the OS itself, but hey we're talking Google... Thank so much to all who have contributed to the solution.

"Text to speech reads messages out loud, allowing you to listen to text or messages instead of reading them. To change Text-to-speech settings, follow these steps:
Text to speech
From any Home screen, tap Apps.
Tap Settings.
Scroll to 'PHONE,' then tap Language & keyboard.
Under 'SPEECH,' tap Text-to-speech output.
Tap Speech rate and then adjust how fast the text will be spoken.
Tap the Settings icon next to the desired TTS engine (Samsung or Google).
To tap the Settings icon, the TTS engine must be selected.
Tap Language to adjust the spoken language.
Tap adjust any other desired settings""
In my Sprint Version... there is NO "Phone" under the apps/settings...
So.. Im back at square 1.
thanks for trying anyways...

For the GN4 its under settings/language and input.
I use this app because it has the option of only reading sms and other notifications while you have ear buds or Bluetooth connected. There are certain texts from my wife that I don't want read in an artificial British females voice to the world at large...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=robj.readit.tomepro
ok.. I got everything turned on.... BUT..
what do I actually have to do to get it to read it out??
lets say.. I see my blue LED flashing and I know I got 3 txts from someone..
I hit the button (home or power) and the lockscreen comes on..
I see the 3 txts there.. Now what??
What do I do at this point?
I hit the home screen button twice and maybe the mic button shows.. mostly not..
then IF it comes up, I'll say "ok galaxy" read me my txts".. and it wont..
Sometime it will display the txtx in a really tiny font, but never reads it aloud.
my old mega.. Id hit the home button 3 times and the voice would say." what would you like me to do?"
and Id say "read me the txt messages" and it would.. then say out options asfaras , reply, call etc"
But I cannot get this GN4 to do it.
the mega was at 4.2.2.
Im stumped!!
thanks for all the replies..
what's the easiest way to access the read aloud function.
thanks again!
My best advice would be to ask in the T-Mobile Note 4 forums here at XDA because they have a lot more users currently. Maybe ask on Samsung specific sites. Sorry I couldn't be of more help but I'm definitely interested in knowing how to do this as well.
well I found the culprit, i reset my phone and everything works. Until I installed Greenify. Uninstall Greenify which I could not do, had to reset the phone again to get rid of Greenify. Now I can get as far as to speak to me, it is talking to me but still cannot get it to read the text message. I did it one time, but haven't been able to do it again. I am still working on it.

Anyone else not able to use Google voice typing in samsung keyboard?

I can't use Google voice typing, it always uses s voice or the Mic button does nothing if I disable s voice. Anyone have the same?
Yep. Same problem.
I downloaded Google Keyboard and Google Handwriting. Fixes the problem. The only functionality lost is the auto switch to S-Pen from traditional keyboard.
Here's a WORKAROUND - That actually works!
So I have been going crazy with this - My Note is an AT&T and I have been experimenting since it came out to get Google Voice Typing working again - I would have no problem with the way they integrated S-Voice into the voice typing from the Samsung keyboard except for one minor problem - It SUCKS SO BAD IT ISN"T EVEN WORTH A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME. I mean its the most inaccurate Voice recognition ever. Probably because it's not even developed in an English speaking country. But whatever. Here is the workaround:
When You want to voice type and have the Samsung Keyboard loaded, pull down the notification shade and choose: "Select Keyboard" Before doing anything else choose: "Setup Input Methods" in blue at bottom of the dialog. In here, make sure Google Voice Typing is selected, and alternately unselect Samsung Voice Input - you could keep it but why? It's not like it works in any usable way - Unselect it.
Now whenever you want to voice type you have to pull down notifications, tap "Select Keyboard" and "Google Voice Typing" - Yes this is an annoyance, and it really is just a holdout until this gets fixed, but you CAN use Google Voice typing and you can keep the Samsung Keyboard. The good part is when you are down voice typing tapping the X in upper right switches you back to the keyboard without needing to pull notifications down - It only works this way. tapping the mic either does nothing or brings up Samsung Voice input if you haven't disabled it. If someone finds a full fix - please let us know..

Ok google call xxxx no longer working

My Moto 360 Gen 1 was working fine until two days ago. For no reason, the "call" voice commend no longer calls. It will go through the whole calling animation, and then returns to the watch face. Nothing triggers on the phone. Other voice commands still work. I can still text, open navigation and set alarm through my watch.
I have reset the watch and reinstalled Android Wear app, but nothing change. Anyone else experiencing this? :crying:
edit: It is not just the voice command. When I go to "contact" on my watch, and click "call" with my finger, the animation on the watch will appear, but calling won't trigger on the phone.
Actually, I figured it out. For some reason, the phone app lost its default priority. So every time I tried to call via my watch, the phone doesn't know which app (phone or google hangout dialer) to open. Resetting the default calling app fixed it.
