Mine just started to after lunch today. I've had it on the desk and saw it restart about 3 times in less than a 15 minute window.
How do I know this just started and it hasn't been going on in my pocket? Well over the weekend I would have heard it reset (since it's not on silent/vibrate like it is at work). It also significantly drains the battery more if you are constantly soft resetting it/turning it off and on.
So is anyone else having this issue? I need to figure out if it was just a freak occurrence or if something is wrong with it.
I did NOT root it, running everything stock - I did some updates on some apps I have installed but no new programs installed in a couple of days - again this just started happening today in the last couple of hours.
And besides email and messaging, I'm not running anything in the background like Pandora or eBuddy, so I don't think it's a program causing it to reset.
Edit:
Not sure if this is the best category for the thread, but I could not find any threads similar to this besides the battery issue in general. Apologies if this thread already exists somewhere.
No uncalled for restarts here. Open the back, pull the battery, check the contacts? Is it plugged in when it does this? Try padding the battery with a folded piece of paper between the door and battery to ensure a snug fit. If it still does that, time to go to a store.
@Jye75
Thanks, I have pulled out and looked at the battery. I have that Seido case they were slangin' at Best Buy on it, I don't think there's an issue with the contacts.
One weird thing is during one of the automatic restarts, the phone made the start up sound. I had the phone on vibrate and the start up before that (and after when I manually restarted it) did not have a tone. Very odd... perhaps it's possessed.
Odd indeed... drop by a Sprint store, would be my next move.
It happened to me two times today since I did the full root last night. The last time it happened, I clicked on a input field and it restarted...
I had the issue when I turned off "enable always on mobile data"...turning it back on stopped the resets.

Probably just a kernel panic. I would not worry about it too much. It's happened to me on my Hero, and on my Evo.
For comparison purposes, how often does OS X Kernel Panic? How often does Windows BSOD?
Android is rather new technology in comparison. Yes, it runs Linux, which is rather mature at this point, but it's built with a lot of new technology, which may not be as mature as the stock kernel itself.
/two cents.

Thanks, I realized that was one of the few things I've changed at the end of the weekend. Sweet!

It reset about 8-10 times in less than 2 hours. More than half of that time the phone was in my pocket and not in use. I hardly got a signal inside of Walmart so it's not like I was using it that much in there.
I have set the data to be always on and hopefully this will help...
I appreciate all the help guys!

I had the same exact thing happen to me beginning this past weekend. It was driving me insane since it was rebooting every 30 minutes or so. I noticed it started happening more so when I did not have good signal. In any case I came to the conclusion it was all the tinkering (root part 1 and custom ROM) I've done with the phone so I wiped it last night and started from scratch (root part 1 and 2 and custom ROM). No reboots yet, but seeing your post concerns me since it's not the first post I've read regarding this issue. I'll keep you posted if mine keeps doing it. I really hope it's not a real issue, getting a replacement does not seem like it will be an easy process at the moment with them constantly selling out.

Thanks for the input. Your concern about the difficulty in getting a replaced unit due to them selling out is EXACTLY why I'm trying to figure out if this is a software glitch.
I'm also glad you pointed out that it tended to happen when the signal was ****ty. Last night I enabled the data always on (it was on by default and I turned it off earlier in the weekend) and I haven't had a reset yet this morning. Of course I've also been in good coverage areas. When it kept resetting like mad last night it was inside of Wal-Mart, and they have some serious shielding on their building or something since I rarely get a full or even half signal in there regardless of carrier or phone in past experience. A lot of friends on Altell/Verizon beg to differ with me though.
I'm thinking if they're connected, the fact that a weak data signal contributes to the device rebooting is really odd; the only time I can think of why a phone should reboot on its own is the OS crashes (or some app takes up ALL the available RAM, freezing it, then crashing it) or it overheats (but would seem to turn off rather than reboot). I had a BB Curve that did this at one point so I had to clear the cache all the time.
Edit:
Actually, I realized when it started to happen it was at work where I have excellent reception. Hmmm... well at least it hasn't reset on its own this morning so far (so far meaning 30 minutes).

Well for what it's worth, mine was also doing it in good signal areas as well. It just seemed a lot more pronounced when I was getting bad signal. Anywho I reread your original post that you are running stock software so let's see if it keeps occuring for both of us regardless of the differences in software we are running. I also still have "Enable data always on" off.

Sounds like a plan. Still no problems so far with data always on.
FWIW I also did the battery trick by switching the phone to CDMA auto from GSM auto. Supposedly you have to do it everytime you boot your phone, and it's supposed to help with battery life. Thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700601
It has to have something to do with turning off always on mobile data. It goes away when it's on, but then comes back when you turn it off. I just did rooted and unlocked nand protection on my phone last night and turned off always on mobile data and haven't had any reboots yet. Then again, it took a little while for it to start resetting last time so we'll see I guess. Could just be some glitch in the software that putting a new rom on has fixed...

I had this happen to me while I was trying to talk on the phone and use google navigation at the same time while running the Overclocking widget to throttle my cpu to 285mhz when the screen was off. Whenever I turned off the screen my phone would reboot.
My guess is that there some issue there where the cpu cant keep up with the heavy usage, locks up and forces a reboot...
I've since gotten rid of the OC widget, rooted my phone and installed a custom rom. I've not had it happen since, of course I havent tried talking and using google nav yet.
I've also noticed that advanced task killer caused the htc sense launcher to reboot (force killed) every once in a while... I've gotten rid of that too...
happend to me while talking on the phone twice, it was weird i could hear him still talking the entire time it was rebooting, up untill the OS actually launched...Im gunna try and kill set cpu, how many other people have this running while its rebooting???

This happened to me today, in-call. My phone has reset 6 times since then off-call.
Alright un-installed setcpu and it still resets. I'm now trying to shim my battery to see if its a loose connection. I gotta figure this out its driving me crazy...
UPDATE: still hapining with battery shined, tried both data sync on and off, installed setcpu, all to no avail... maybe I will try a hard reset... I remember on my kaiser this started hapinin and it was a bad nand flash, but I'm running stock with unrevoked... so if anyone has any ideas I'm wide open.

Wow dude I'm sorry to hear you're having that much trouble. I'm on step 2 of part 2 of Toast's root method but running into major issues. Since I did step 1 (and before that I enabled data always on again) I haven't had a reset issue.
For the record, my Hardware version 2.
Do you guys think this is a widespread or isolated issue? I'm surprised it hasn't happened more or less, in other words I figured there would be either a lot or hardly any comments about it. This medium sized number is interesting.
Phone was sold as is, it turned on but the battery was drained completely and died soon after reaching home screen. I took a plunge since price was $50 tempting Washingtons  I was 100% sure something is wrong with this device but **** it i did it. Bought a charger and USB cable on the way home and so far it's charging just fine.
Phone is mostly erased at least manually I think, because somebody left his google account as I can see email in the plays store menu and some apps, or maybe this is all the carrier pre-installed junk I'm looking at ? LOL
I don't have much experience with Samsung devices but it's a SM-N900T model with N900TUVUCNB4 4.4.2. from February 2014 according to this site http://www.galaxynote3update.com/galaxy-note-3-odin-factory-stock-firmware-usa-canada/
My question is do I stay on this Android or do I jump to Lolipop ? Wasn't there some memory issues with 5.0 ? Or maybe Custom builds ?
Your first move is to sell it to me for $5
If I was OP, I would fully charge the phone, do full factory reset and run it few days as is to test if everything works,. Once you start updating, especially custom ROM, things can break and you'll never know if it's software or hardware. If everything works fine, then you could decide for yourself what to do next. My biggest worry would be the phone is blacklisted, since Note 3 in good shape sells for $200-$300.
OK
Phone charged fully I booted it up and after short amount of time it would freeze constantly when bringing up the keyboard (Samsung or google), can't recall which one was first now because I was changing them in settings and nothing helped. Either way it was freezing after typing couple of letters or appear then crash/disappear. All this combined with some crashes from app called Lookout. Google told me to do Volume UP+HOME+POWER and do a factory reset, after that everything works fine now. Changed my sim card and I can place calls with no issues also data works fine but damn there is tons of f***ing poopy preloaded apps in here from Samsung and other garbagio . I think whoever was using this device had no idea what to do with those errors and just stopped using it somewhere around Feb. 2014 because since then basically nothing was updated on it. I'm gonna let it sit for couple of days then probably will upgrade to 5.0 via KIES and maybe replace the battery either way with OEM or maybe something like this ? http://www.amazon.com/Anker-T-Mobile-Compatibility-18-Month-Warranty/dp/B00FF54C8Q/

There is actually an easy way to not worry about the blacklisted issue before you ever buy a phone from someone. You can go to www.swappa.com/esn and check the status of the phone by entering it's IMEI. We buy and resell phones a lot and this is how we check them. You can check up to 10 phones free every 24 hours on the site.

You can freeze them, but in my opinion if you've gone to the trouble of rooting it, you might as well completely remove the bloatware. If all you do is freeze the apps, they are still there needlessly taking up the internal storage. There are a few lists on here that tells what is safe to remove without fear of messing the phone up.
problem with deleting "bloatware" is two fold: some programs are interdependent and deleting one you don't want may break another you need. Also, I don't know about others, but I changed my mind in the past and reactivated some applications I never thought I'll be using before.
As far as space goes, the whole system uses 4 GB maybe, so you could save 1 GB, if you're aggressive deleting files, probably couple min of 4k video worth. I got 128 GB sd card, problem solved. Maybe different story with Note 5, but that's one of main reasons I never upgraded.
Either way I strongly suggest at least freezing apps and testing before deleting it.

Hey guys, i need some help. Recently I Odin the latest Tar OG1, and used the debloated OG1 stock Rom that is in the Developer Forums. Everything was going well and after a few weeks I started noticing that my phone would start to lag really bad and then just freeze for long periods. I can't do anything while it's frozen and more than often it will restart on it's own. I've wiped everything and restored it using the Tar and even on complete stock it does this. I'm starting to think it has something to do with my actual phone but I don't know how to make sure. I had twrp and even that lags and freezes sometimes. I don't know what I could have done to make this happen, I had xposed installed, and i was running the beastmode kernal as well. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Update: so now my phone just cut and restarted again out fo the blue (I was trying to set an alarm) and my screen went black with fading lines on it, then suddenly it started vibrating nonstop., had to yank the battery. turned it back on and now it just restarts when idle.
One of my Note 4's started lagging real bad, locking up (requiring battery pull), and constantly restarting. Its completely stock, I've read around online that its likely an issue with the onboard eMMC memory on the motherboard dying. Only cure is to replace the motherboard.
I found a work around though, download an app called Wake Lock (or something like that), start it and set to partial wake lock. Phone basically runs like nothing is wrong with it now. Have about 6 months before I can upgrade so hopefully it holds out until then.

No worries, I did lots of reading online and banging my head against the wall when it started acting up. It was really weird, it was acting fine one day, then the next slow, lagging, locking up, and restarting. I tried factory resets, reinstalling old stock ROMs, taking the sd card out. Finally stumbled onto a post in another forum where a guy mentioned that app. Since installing it, as long as I keep it running, phone acts like normal, that's about a month now.

Im not gonna lie, i don't know exactly what it does. Does it drain your battery quick by chance? Mine dripped from 79% to about 40% in the span of an hour. Not sure if its because of the fresh flash or not
The Note which has issues is my wife's phone and she is a "power" user, lots of screen on time (think her timeout is set to like 2 minutes or something like that). I dont think she has seen any appreciable difference in battery life, but I'm sure it does drain a little bit as the partial wake lock never really allows the phone to enter into a true sleep/battery saving mode.
I had freezes and boot loops, and it turned out to be a bad battery. Strange, right? But it's true. I replaced the battery with a new one and everything worked fine again.
The battery had just started to swell, which is a sign of a failing battery. So, even if the battery isn't your problem, it's always good to check it now and then for changes in thickness.
Hi,
I recently got myself an s9 256gb (exynos) and have had multiple issues with my first one.
Luckily they replaced it with another new one, and it had been running fine for a couple days.
Still need to get my notes from gmail working working (previous iPhone user), but i'll fix that.
Anyways, my question is. How long does it take you guys to see, "the stats" when you press on device maintanance?
It used to show it to me allmost instantly, but now it takes me around 40 seconds each time I open it.
On Youtube it looked like the phone of the revieuwers also showed it instantly, but I like to ask real users instead.
Thanks in advance..
Mine took around 37 seconds to load.
It's a bug for everyone atm, wait for an update

Checked with the phone of a friend, his is done in a couple of seconds...
Lately, I have been having trouble calling and receiving phone calls. I often get an exclamation point next to the cell phone signal icon. Sometime the exclamation goes away. Other times, I get a message that the cellular network is not available.
I tried the following:
Reseating the SIM
Resetting the network settings
Toggle airplane mode
Switch Preferred network between LTE and 5G
Results are inconsistent, so I am coming the XDA to see if others have seen this or have suggestion for a fix.
EDIT: Seems to be a common problem, with no clear fix.

I had the same problem on Orange network in France but the last android 13 beta (3.2) solved the problem.

The last option you have before warranty is to re-flash the device. It's worth a shot... When flashing, be sure to enable wipe and force flash partitions (by hitting the pencil for advanced options located on the flasher page).
Google's web flash tool is here.
mine has been doing the same, seems to be really bad last few weeks too. I was planning to do a full reset and see what that does. Good to now about the A13 beta, as that was my next step if full factory reset/flash doesn't help. Thanks for this thread.

The cellular service has definitely gotten worse in the last few weeks. Maybe the June update broke something.
Hard for me to image that I factory reset would help. Can you let us know how that goes for you?
Let's hope the cell service gets better with the July update.
will do. I'm gonna have to do something. Lost connection 3 times today alone. Annoying.
I'm going to flash the modem files from Android 13 beta to the June update. Someone with a P6 said that this worked for them.
I just ran the following and see an immediate improvement!
fastboot flash radio radio-raven-g5123b-102852-220609-b-8701566.img
EDIT: I spoke too quickly. Still getting "!" and "mobile network not available"
EDIT2: Since this problem appears to have started for me with the June update, I am going to flash the May update modem file and see how that works. Just ran "fastboot flash radio radio-raven-g5123b-97927-220225-b-8226700.img" Stay tuned.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's the issue. The radio sucks and no amount of software updates or down-dates will fix it. If you need it for work then what I would do is sell it and buy a different phone until they come out with a new device that is as good as the P5. I can be without signal and data for close to 15 minutes while my wife and her P5 never once lost it. Once the ! hits the signal bar it will take me a minimum of 5 - 10 minutes to come back unless I reboot the phone. Then it's only about 5. If I needed it for business or critical functioning I wouldn't be on this forum any longer. Oh yeah, other than that the phone is great. Well... other than mediocre battery life and a FPR that will never success after a shower or swim. And I do mean never.
I decided against a full wipe/install of June update, and just went for the A13 beta 3. Flashed it via the android flash tool, then rooted with magisk. Setting up apps and things now, so I'll report back when I know more. I wanna love this phone, but it has been hard. Hoping this is better. I'll try to probably manage with this until the 7 comes out.
also for what its worth, swift backup is nice. Restoring my apps and data now, the few I have tested all work as if I didn't update/wipe my phone. Really makes it nice

Looking forward to hearing about your experience with A13 and if it improves your cellular service.
I would say on my experience, Beta 3 has gotten better but should've been fixed months ago before it was released. I am going to wait a while before I got buy another phone in general

Are you getting reliable cellular connections with Verizon using Beta 3? Do you ever get the exclamation point of no service?

Maybe once in the last week
Getting the same here. Last few weeks have been unbearable. Was just down in the Smoky Mountains on my motorcycle for a week. Spotty coverage is to be expected. But I would get back to town and have to reboot to get coverage again. Still it often went back to the explanation mark after reboot.
This modem is crap, I may break out the Note 20 my kid gave me. I will hate it, but at least I can make calls and text.

And how we tried. It's just a shame they released this device with hardware that is not useful for network connectivity. And how do we migrate to a P7 after this without making sure they didn't screw up again? I'm at a loss at this point. I'll give it until A13 final and then sell it if nothing changes. I just don't know where to turn but to me the iPhone 13 6" might be it sorry to say. I just can't deal with this crap much longer. Sucks huh?
well after today, I would say its better. But time will tell. Went out several times to different places and I never lost connection. I'll keep you all updated. I will say that on the beta the phone feels much faster and the FP reader seems better too.
I keep saying that I love this phone, and hate it at the same time.

Just wondering if you've tried the latest beta using the flash tool and choosing the options wipe and force flash all partitions (which reinstalls all the firmware on the phone).
It would be super frustrating to have signal issues. I've also heard some users who still had issues after re-flashing, were able to get replacements from Google Support.

Not yet. I was going to wait for the fall release of A13 before I wiped and finally gave up. It's not often enough, although frustrating, that I have to rely on a reboot to restore connectivity since mostly I've learned to just look the other way, shake my head and wait the 15 minutes. The point being they should never have released this last October with all the fpr issues and radio malfunctioning. This has been ongoing for 9 months already in various iterations. I don't think any other device has these issues other than the P6 series.
