Question Microsoft Phone Link for Non-samsung? - Google Pixel 6 Pro

I'm aware of Microsoft Your Phone app and all of it's magic - messages syncing, calls, notifications and photos. However there are some exclusive features for Samsung and Microsoft devices that include
- Cross device clipboard syncing
- App mirroring
- RCS Messaging
Does anyone know any APKs or workarounds to enable these features as I think they are really useful.

I'm sure there are several Android devices to choose from at your provider.
Alternate UI? why? if you dont like the UI then dont buy the phone.

Alarm Snooze Duration = Good Suggestion
Stuff on Home Screen You Mentioned: Pin Settings. Not like there is much in there, anyways. They need to add a LOT more settings. Sorry, but what's there is woefully inadequate. Even a casual consumer can get frustrated by the lack of common-sense exposed in the OS.

1. NO.
2. Desperately needed. Double tap for Notification cache, or maybe a Notifications Live Tile that you can click to get to the Notification Cache is needed.
3. Ringtones coming. Backgrounds are useless because on the homescreen you wouldn't see them, and in the app list they can potentially make the text unintelligible. There's no reason to want backgrounds, IMO. They're a waste due to the way the UI is designed. Lockstyles, like what? Pattern Lock? I believe Password and PIN code are there already, no?
4. Better menus are desperately needed. More functionality needs to be exposed, and it needs to be exposed cleanly. Android apps that have common functionality in the main menu with a "More" Option are a good example on how to implement decent menus (Google's Apps on Android do this).
5. Don't see a need, but I guess everyone has a favorite colors they want their tiles to be.
6. Don't understand what you mean by this, Lol. The OS already animates a bit too much IMO and it would be nice to have an option to turn the animations off in the system...

No. There are technically reasons why I say no, but I really don't wanna get into it. The default keyboard is really good and they should spend time trying to improve it in the ways that it can be improved instead of worrying about some third party keyboards (plus, we don't want 1000 of those cluttering the marketplace like Android - that goes for Alternative UIs as well).
To your list I'll add:
Bing Voice Navigation
Video MMS
Ability to Send Video in Emails
Ability to Sync Documents from Zune Desktop Software (from %USERDIR%\Documents\Mobile Documents)
IE to Phone
IE Bookmarks Synching (Mobile Subcategory in Favorites, similar to WM6.5)

I'm not thinking closed-minded. I'm thinking that right now, my wp7 works flawlessly (mostly). It's smooth as silk (and I maintain that a smooth UI is far and away the NUMBER ONE most important thing to have). What I'm thinking is adding all these options makes it a bloatfest like windows mobile was, and what Android is.

I think you're missing the point. As Apple has done with iOS, Microsoft wants every Windows Phone to be instantly recognizable by its consistent Metro UI. I can see how some options to adjust the UI could be implemented, but the ability to replace the core appearance and behavior with an alternate will not happen.
That is what I think people are trying to say. Basically, if you are looking for an environment with a user-replaceable home screen/launcher, then WP7 is the wrong place to be looking.

My WP7 does work pretty smooth about it and that is one thing I like about it...so I see what you mean about bogging it down -but not ALL of those will bog it down, some are actualy good features/functions with nothing to do with looks...so there may have to be a middle ground, if that is the case...?
I believe if they are added in an efficient way then it should be fine...possibly by selecting a choice few... or on/off switches could be used (i.e. if you do not use all of the customizeable features which may slow down your phone - turn that whole section off etc...)
All in all...I believe there are definate changes which should be made to WP7 and there are some nice changes which could be made...
this is just meant to be about compiling a list of both...but your arguments for one or the other are welcome as well...

I get what you mean. That is a point (about the Metro UI being a core recognizable element)...but just denying the ability that users demand will amount to those users either constructing their own means or moving on....I do not intend to be part of the latter ...
so while MS may not be the ones to add the feature... the idea is up there for the possibility for someone to take on a project of such....
either way I think it fits this list well because it is an idea for a feature (whether you may think it is good/bad possible/ or not is an opinion...so don't mind if I still leave it up there anyways k? haha)
@'n8' ..... backgrounds while in your opinion may be useless...I believe it would be a nice addition instead of having a black or white background all the time -pleasing to the eye I guess you could say...?
any ways - a background is meant to be just that, an image in the background (i.e. behind ...behind things like documents and widgets...) so I think it would be a nice idea -then maybe they could add an option to change tile transparency etc....
I like N8ter suggested features.

By telling him to get Android instead of making WP7 WM, you literally inferred that doing so would also make it [like] Android. Otherwise the Android suggestion would make little, if any, sense. 4. Multilanguage keyboard (e.g. French + English)

6. Volume: Separate ringer and music volume

14. Emails: Peak notification for emails (option to disable push notification at night) - shouldn't your phone be plugged in anyways? Or are you concerned with data consumption?
15. Screen capture - Lol...
16. Support for front-facing cameras and video chat
17. Turn by turn text-to-speech navigation with offline support - Offline Support ur asking for a lot here... Lots of phones simply don't have the room for this.
18. Sharing options for video (MMS, Facebook, Twitter, Skydrive, etc) - Agree
19. Add image and video results to Bing
20. Native DLNA and Bluetooth 3.0 - DLNA Yes, BT 3.0 you probably need an updated hardware piece in the phone for...
21. File explorer - Not gonna happen.
22. Emails: Solve the issue with embedded pictures that fail to download - Never had this issue. Not saying anyone else hasn't...
23. Emails: Ability to edit the content of an email before you forward it

28. Zune: Ability to download podcasts over the air - MANGO
29. Zune: Ability to add or update podcasts directly from the phone - MANGO
30. Zune: Scrobbling on Last.fm for ALL countries - This is so low priority I'm surprised you mentioned it... Should have just put IE9 in there since you seem out of the loop in what's coming with Mango...
31. Multitasking, multitasking, multitasking !!! - It will never multi task 3rd party apps, it will simply do fast app switching similar to iOS.
32. WiFi toggle button directly accessible from the Home Menu - Agree, needed - GPS control as well. Most people actually have their GPS running all the time because of how location settings are hidden, which leads to more battery drain.
33. A real YouTube application - They say they have one, we'll see.
34. native flashlight app (using LED flash) on ALL wp7 devices. - Lol... Just use a free one from the market this is not an issue.

Good luck on the openness and freedom. Some of your people really seem to reside in lala land asking for the same WinMo-type treatment that Microsoft has already seen fail colossally. That will never happen with Windows Phone-series OSes.

Unified Messaging

Morning all,
Need some help and guidance. I am looking for a good unified messaging application that will allow me to pull together the following messaging services into one inbox view:
1) Exchange - importing authentication information from default app
2) SMS/MMS
3) Facebook
4) RSS
5) News Feeds
I had a Blackberry previously, and their default messaging app allowed me to add services when I wanted them to show up in the unified view. Is there something good that works on the android platform?
I have done some research on this and things like My Message and K-9 seem to bring pieces but not everything.
Thanks,
Steve
any app do it ? i search and nothing
I haven't seen a app for Android that brings everything together.
The only solutions I can think of aggregate half of your list not the entire list. "Pulse" can combine #3-5, but I don't know of anything that collects all five in one place.
Pure Messenger does everything except the RSS/News feeds

Google talk alternative?

i find google talk to be really crapy, even facebook messenger has more options like sending photos, etc. is there a alternative to google talk app that allows us to use photos?
Google+ Messenger
i use whatsapp with my usa and international friends. i send photo, music and chat with that app.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Kik Messenger is really nice. Shows read and delivered tags also like BBM.
Heavy whatsapp user here.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
LINE and KIK messenger
google talk is the CRAPPIEST. I don't know why they don't upgrade that piece of crap to more features like pic and voice messaging -___-
Try LINE messenger. I have been using it for a while. Features include:
-picture messaging
-video messaging
-create groups
-send location
-FREE phone calls to line messenger users
-timelines
-username instead of pin
-custom user ID qr code
-cool stickers
-on all platforms (android/iphone/blackberry/windows)
-lots of other cool customizations
xxxhttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.naver.line.android&hl=enxxx
I also use kik messenger, only because it keeps it simple, and saying "kik me" just clicks better. Features include
-picture messaging
-video messaging (with free add on)
-username instead of pin
-group messaging (but you cannot create custom groups)
-on all platforms (android/iphone/blackberry/windows)
-other plugin features such as (sketchy, contact ****r, file****r, ect)
xxxhttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kik.android&hl=enxxx
The only issue I have with kik is that ANYONE can message you without having first requested to do so (HUGE privacy flaw) and there are alot of perverted people on it. The perversion wouldn't be a problem if they weren't able to send you messages and pics without having to send a request first.
So far I've been using line the most because of kik's privacy flaw, but I still use kik every now and then with friends who have kik. But line is more customizable. Also, kik looks the most like bbm.
Let me know which you like better
Hope I've helped.:cyclops:
PS: copy links without the xxx's

[Q] Missing features - need help

I want to start this question off by saying no iHating, or BB hating or Android hating; I am looking for constrcutive answers and not a bashing of the other players out there.
I went from BBs to Androids to iphone and now back to Android.
I have had my share of phones and recently switched from iPhone for the openness of Android.
We are supposed to get more features, better apps, less restrictions, etc...
In the last month and a half, I have tried countless times to Google what I was looking for and to find solutions to the following issues without luck:
And as a starter note, I cannot use Gmail email app (some of my issues are with email app) because I have 2 exchange accounts and one of them does not allow forwarding messages so that app is not an option. Also, K9 is not an option b/c they are exchange 2010 servers. And for some reason Maildroid will not work with one of my accounts, exact same settings from stock email app will not work in mail droid, but that can be for another thread.
So anyways, here are the issues
1) On stock TW roms:
- no spell check.
I not referring to auto-correct which is fine on all roms, I mean the actual spell checking with red underline that is available in stock android and in CM/AOKP (which is assume are stock android).
- No hardware key remapping
2 - On CM/AOKP
Well i can now get the features above that I am missing, but the email app does not allow to:
- zoom out,
- no auto-fitting of messages in portrait mode, they are automatically formatted to landscape mode which is a HUGE pain and very inefficient.
- I can't sort messages to see what I have that is unread; I am forced to scroll the entire list trying to find my unread messages.
- I can't filter in anyway the messages, just search which is extremely slow.
- I can't get notifications of messages that appear into folders for which I have rules, forcing me to go in and manually search these folders.
3 - Finally, in both cases, the following is missing:
- A lockinfo like notification center that allows me to see any and all items that are outstanding :
- all unread messages from all email folders,
- all upcoming calendar appointments,
- all app notifications
All the above should be in one consolidated place and allow you to see each item individually, meaning each and every email listed separately for example, so that I can prioritize which one will get answered first.
for this point I would like to stat that I have tried the following alternatives and have found that they are all flawed:
- Executive assistant (with enhanced email)
- locker pro
- widget locker.
The missing features above were included in stock BB back in 2010 when I first switched to Android; and had been available since I had been available for a while.
They were also included in Iphone when I switched in 2011.
And I have found threads (very old ones) within the Android community asking about these.
I am not looking to bash the GS3, it's a great phone, but a nice screen and a fast processor will only get you so far if the necessary features are not there. The devices are supposed to help us manage all the different tasks of life, and I am finding that this phone (or maybe I should say the android system in general) has now made the task quite difficult.
Again not looking for this to become a bashing contest on the Android competitors, I am just looking for some guidance on getting these features on my phone.

[Q] Interest in a security / privacy focused ROM?

Hello and good day,
I haven't found any approach in this and ask this to everybody here around. Is there any interest in a security / privacy focused ROM that has the following features:
internet traffic through TOR
GPG / PGP KeyChain with Apps that support GPG / PGP
no apps that are calling home in any way
no facebook integration (but still possible to use facebook chat with OTR encryption)
without google play (add on possible) and focused on free software
possibillity to encrypt the whole phone OR specific folders
possibility to encrypt SMS text messages
Skype / WhatsApp / ICQ..... alternatives with encrypted OTR chat possibilities
video calling alternative based on XMPP or SIP (instead of skype and general video calls)
The apps for this are all there as free software. I just would compile everything in one CWM-flashable ROM that's ready to use.
Interest anyone?

I am interested in this! Even if there isn't much interest and you end up not making the rom, please post the names of the apps that it would contain for those interested

I wish this idea would kick into high gear. After reading "No Place To Hide", I think it's time for a ROM with enough encryption and privacy options to make all of us safe.

the thing is you would be forced to use other services than that you are used to and that are common. you would have to say goodbye facebook, google, instagram and i dont know what most people use nowadays to give away their rights. as you can see in terms of replys - there are nearly none. no one with this device seem to be interested about that issue.
you would need to use services like jabber/xmpp instead of skype for example and tell your friends about the opportunity. it would be in interest for everyone but the effort for most people is too big.
and what you say about a safe phone - it's not even marginal possible. you can just encrypt your data so nobody can listen what you do. as you use a phone you can still be tracked by your phone number, other services you use with your browser, by blind sms messages used by feds...
edit: just check the first post. there are some alternatives. you can modify your phone like delete everything with the name google, facebook ......... in it and services / apps that require authentication and are calling home. there are several apps you can use to delete system applications and services. then install some new apps via f-droid that respect your privacy like some i mentioned in the first post
