Hi!
I have received my Red Magic 8 Pro and immediately noticed something. The selfie camera is visible if the background behind it is simple. For example just a simple white or gray background. Depending on movie sometimes it also becomes visible under cartoons like Rick and Morty, however during normal movie I cant see it.
Is this normal for this phone?
Also, the software which handles the pixels in front of the camera sometimes can become bugged and a visible line is displayed. I can reproduce this issue by pulling down the notification bar and holding it at 1 spot.
Does everyone experience these issues ?
That's normal, especially if the screen is on 120Hz, and at low brightness. It's the so-called green tint issue.

I notice this in opera, and today in the facebook app too, and was really baffled. The effect is quite subtle, but repeatable. When moving my finger around the screen, eg on the bbc news website panning to the top left, my screen dims. It stays dim when I remove my finger, and brightens again when I pan back down to the right.
Weird, huh?
So far it's just a curiosity and not an annoyance. Has anyone else seen this?
So I am not the only one who noticed this. I sometimes find this behaviour a bit annoying, especially in low light.
The phone has an ambient light sensor. It is adjusting because you are causing a shadow over it.
You can probably turn it off
Under the power settings/backlight - auto adjust backlight. Just uncheck it.
Any idea where the sensor is located?
Do you really think it is the ambient/light sensor? I sure don't. Scrolling through different websites I can easily reproduce this:
You scroll from one point to another, this just has to be a couple of pixels, and the screen adjusts the brightness. That is within a room with a fixed source of light and I am keeping my body as constant as possible to avoid the shadowing.
Scrolling from point A to point B makes the backlight adjust itself, even without casting any shadows or similar. Scrolling back from B to A makes the backlight instantly adjust itself back.
It's your finger causing the shadow, not your body. If you introduce an object into an ambient light source, you will find that said object will reduce the ambient light by a percentage due to partial or total obstruction. The light sensor is detecting this percentage and adjusting the screen accordingly.
The sensor itself is somewhere near the speaker.
I'm pretty sure this doen't have anything to do with the light sensor UNLESS it's cause by the screen itself becoming brighter and this registering on the light sensor, eg internal light leak.
My best guess is that it's connected to the presence/absence of certain colours on the screen, and is related to the video driver. Next time I get it I'll see if I can reproduce when scrolling via the kbd, to eliminate the theories about casting shadows on the screen.
This is not FINGER SHADOW!!!
You can notice this same thing when you plaing Solitare cards and using Stylus.
I'm sure i did't do any shadows and anyway when i pick up any card and moving aroud screen u can notice screen brighting up and down.
Using Opera 9.5, on this site http://game-board.blogspot.com/2008/05/alternative-monopoly-rules-and-game.html zoom in with double-click, scroll about half way down to the paragraph beginning "property has too much pollution on it", then scroll up and down and notice the change in screen brightness. please post if you can repeat. it does not work with the keyboard.
btw, does anyone know monopoly "bloodbath" alternative rules?
I've noticed my screen doing this without causing any shadows & without even touching the screen at all, like a 'breathing effect' when it is completely idle. I think it has something to do with light sensor polling interval which is editable via the registry, advance config and HD tweak...but since I flashed NRGZ ROM (21/08/09 build) this issue has gone anyway.
Greetings.
The screen of my Desire Z seems to be acting weird when displaying certain shades of gray and transitions from black to gray. Gray that is near black becomes much lighter than the rest of the image, although the color should stay the same.
I did a test with an LCD test image to see if I could find out what was wrong, and I discovered that displaying the image in vertical position gave quite a lot of flickering in the middle. Could someone download the picture on their phone and see if they get the same result as me? I get flickering when displaying it in vertical mode all zoomed out, but when I turn it horizontaly everything is fine.
Bump. Also, 10 characters.
So I've had my phone for about a month, and something I've begin to notice is what appears to be an oddly-shaped splotch on the left hand side of the screen when holding it horizontally. This weird splotch only occures when I'm watching a video in the gallary or when the screen is black when a Youtube video is loading. It's really only noticable when my room is dark, and even then it's barely noticable. When a Youtube video is loading and the screen is black for an instance, or then I'm watching an uploaded video from someone on Facebook, and the video doesn't take up the whole screen, AND it is dark in the room I am in, I notice a splotch on the screen which is not very big, and sort of a deformed circle. It's black, a darker black that the screen. Again, I only notice this in the described conditions. It does not appear to be on any other application. It's only noticed in the gallary or when watching a Youtube video. Anyone know what this is? It really isn't bothersome at all, as it's not very noticable, and hardly shows itself. I'm just really curious as to what's causing this.
Hello,
I have found similar threads, but nothing seems to fit for my problem. If there is a thread for this topic, I hope the admins can move this to it.
I bought my Tab S 8.4 two days ago and was very happy with it (except the Play Store error DF BPA-30, which disappeared by now). The problem appears when I use the tab in the dark, after the second night I finally found out why: When the brightness goes below ~15 percent (automatically or manually) the display gets a dark-greenish tone. Full black and other strong colours don't seem to be affected.
A good example is a game I am playing: The red/blue/violet "nebula" turns into a dark green mass as well as the row at the top of the left. When I move around, the green mass "wobbles" too.

Is this normal?
Thanks for your advice!

I don't know if it's normal but I got the same thing. Since I keep my brightness low due to my sensitive eyes, I see it all the time. I have a 10.5 btw.
I haven't posted about it because I figure I may be more sensitive than other people.
Try this: if you have an LCD tablet or phone, place it next to the S on a table in a room with light. Turn OFF both screens. Move around so you are looking at them from different angles. With mine , about 45 degrees off axis, the S screen is clearly tinted a deep green (or if you prefer, the light reflected from the screen is green.) The other screen is black.
Same problem here too...

In my Tab S 8.4, the problem starts only when i shut down or restart the tab... On starting, the Samsung logo doesn't appear on welcome screen and then the display shows a homogeneous greenish hue, more identifiable in low brightness and auto brightness activated devices.. After a few restarts or shutting down the device for 5-6hrs, the display becomes normal on restarting... Interestingly, if you take a screenshot of the greenish display, the picture is perfectly normal when viewed in a normal device or laptop, thus making me believe it to be a display problem, most probably a manufacturing problem...
Just got my new Pixel 2 XL and immediately upgraded it to 8.1 out of the box. Overall I am very happy with the screen physically (blue shift, even color, grain, etc) but have noticed some “white artifacts” if you will when using certain apps. It flickers and comes and goes with no apparent pattern. I first noticed when using Google Maps to drive home last night. I didn’t think to screenshot it since I played it off as a one time thing. However I was just watching some youtube videos in full screen mode and saw the same white artifacts again right where the black nav bar and display would meet. I only notice it during full screen and can reproduce it in a screenshot so I don’t think it’s a faulty display.
Anyone else notice this since getting the 8.1 update?
I took a screenshot of the youtube video I was watching, look at the right of the display right above where the nav bar would be.
Heres the link to the rough part of the video if anyone wants to try themselves.

Update: I've confirmed this happens no matter which way I rotate my phone in landscape mode, so Im leaning towards 8.1 software issue.
